I did find it kinda weird that Sunny’s family blanket had pictures of her new friends. It was just like how Argyle hid the Earth Pony Crystal in her lantern. It kinda makes me wonder if Argyle knew more than he seems?
Makes me wonder if Argyle knows his daughter's destiny. Like she was destined to become the next Alicorn. Eventually Sunny may end up becoming the Princess of Unity. As she is an Alicorn since Princess Twilight Sparkle was also an Alicorn.
This feels like a mixture of both Celestia setting up the mane 6, and the cutie mark connections between them. Basically the G5 version of those two things together.
I think the split of the pony races was a result of the G4 finale, because even though everyone worked together to defeat.. does that group of 3 villains have a name? just gonna call them the 3vil. anyways, as I was saying, they had to defeat the 3vil by working together, but I bet there was still some tension because it doesn't just all go away in a day.
@@AxolotlQueen I’ve noticed in FIM two things that cozy glow, tirek and chrysalis might have contributed to gen 5 current story regarding the disappearance of magic and the ponies race conflict season 8 finale that cozy glow and tirek plan to drain all the magic in equestria using a powerful drain spell that the young six stopped might have not entirely stopped the spell properly and still continue to drain equestria of its magic but much more significantly slowly and twilight sparkle at some point during her reign as princess of equestria began to notice the problem and created the Crystals that represented the three pony races season 9 chrysalis ended up shapeshifting into different pony races and spreading negative and racist propaganda as a distraction twice first to get to grogar bell and second to set up a trap for the mane six. Chrysalis negative and racist propaganda might have long lasting effects that twilight didn’t see until it was too late to try and stop it

Argyle and baby sunny were cute and heartwarming. The "blanket" would make a really neat stained glass window. The ancient prophecy bit...while I know it's not terribly uncommon in Equestria canonically speaking, I prefer to think that Argyle was a historian and overall great dad, he didn't have some mystical "voice" telling him that his daughter would do big things, he just loved her and believed in her which inspired her to become who she is without any of this pre-destiny stuff. Anyway, this is now on my list of top 5 episodes of TYT.
All that world building is there, just for Sunny to learn a simple friends = family story. There a way to make this not damaging in Agyle character. Have Sunny find a letter from Dad telling what happened, go to the place where the event happened, haves so friends goofing off, find the projector, and then have Aygle tell Sunny his last words, and how her connections are the true family. Done. simple. Don’t make Aygle seem like that type of father.
@@word6344 possibly, but I still don't entirely like foretold prophecies, at least when it comes across as super specific like this one. The blanket even had the exact same mane and coat colors right. Seems too coincidental for my taste. Feels kind of like some of the stories that suggest that Princess Celestia knew or even had a hoof in Twilight Sparkle being the Element of Magic long before her mother's mother was even born.

Best Tell Your Tale episode yet. Wish I could see Phyllis, Queen Haven and Alphabittle's reaction to the magic blanket. Hard to believe Queen Haven's servants couldn't discover the blanket fragment by accident when trying to sweep under the throne, then again it took combined Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn magic to move. Who made this blanket? And how did they know what was to come? If this blanket was made 300 years ago, then there may have been special ponies and creatures at work, even when the pony races were divided. They might even be behind the scenes today and ready to reveal themselves to the Mane Five.
Seeing as 200 to 300 years has possibly passed, which is a lot of time, many things could be forgotten, some historical events would be considered myth/legend and yet some of the creatures and events that took place, could still be around waiting to be found. It would be kind of neat if the young six had something to do with this new prophecy to keep what Twilight taught them from being erased, stop a disaster from occurring or to continue her teachings for future generations. Twilight definitely created a legacy.
I did think that, like you said Doc, the blanket was a prophecy when I first saw the episode. I do like thinking that maybe the blanket was made by a pony that could predict the future, maybe not Twilight but somepony else. If it is a prophecy, than that would be cool, and make the series even more promising. Also, Argyle holding a baby Sunny is so precious!
I had the idea that it was a set up prophecy that Twilight or Starlight Glimmer had brought up, it would not be surprising that there is more to it than just that blanket

yea, Opaline must have known and was bidding her time the whole entire time. Maybe Princess Twilight was able to look into the future or hell, even go to the future and foresaw what was going to happen. I would say that Princess Twilight knew that the pony tribes would separate again but also knew that they would get back together with the new Mane 5 at the helm, so she prepared the rug in advance and had it passed on from generation to generation with the intent that it was going to be very important someday, at least that would be the speculation. If the rug had to be divided and hidden in such a convoluted manner, then maybe that would attest to the power or threat that Opaline presents.

Back in ye olden days, the chosen ones would have to be Starswirl and the Pillars of Equestria, but then later on its the Mane 6 and so on and so forth. Argyle said its been like 10 generations, that's a long time, and plenty of time for different "chosen ones" to have existed before Sunny and the G5 crew.

IMO, it'd be weird to make this series set in the same universe, and not have them at least cameo, if not involved at all in the modern/current universe (again, assuming something else didn't happen to them).

I love the idea that Sunny's mane did lose it's color and it's why Argyle was so sure Sunny would be the one to restore magic. I plan to potentially interoperate it into my Story about Sunny's mother (which was inspired by your post on Sunny's mom possibly being an alicorn, so thank you again for that bit of inspiration), and I can't wait to see where it goes.
It was an interesting tell your tale shorts if that relic was that old maybe the main 6 from gen 4 may know about it before their downfall. I think twilight and the main 6 have stopped magic so Opaline can't continue her evil plans until the mane 5 can deal with her in the future hence the relic in order to save equestria. The question now remains is who has made this relic.
We know that Celestia could see into the near future through ambiguous "visions" she has instead of normal dreams. . She requested aditional protection measures for Cadance´s Wedding because she wake up with a sense of dread (unable to recall what she has seen in her trance). . When she had a "vision" related to Tirek, Luna was watching her dream/prophecy (probably waking her up in a way that would help her to retain those memories). . It is implied that she knew well in advance that Discord would be both free & "necesary" at some point in the future (as well as being "close" to some yellow pegasus), hence when she eventually "connected the dots", it was Celestia the one giving the specific sugestion of Fluttershy trying to redeem Discord . There is also timetravel. It would make much more sense for somepony to go back in time AFTER watching Sunny & her friends bring back magic, making the "blanket" as a way to preserve knowledge [since aparently all memories and WRITTEN texts about the past of Equestria seem to be erased/altered].

It's kind of unusual on how that tapestry predicted that the Mane 5 becomes well, Mane 5. As the whole fabric is magical, it can predict anything. Now I want to see a fanart of the G4 version
Yeah, I agree. Maybe it magically shows a part of the owner's life, but they don't get to choose. It may also be possible that other ponies see different things on it. That would explain why Argyle stored it away rather than make sure Sunny always had it. If he saw what she saw, we probably would've seen him doing something with it in the first movie.
Like with most things in this latest iteration of the franchise, my thoughts are "what the actually HECK are they smoking over there??" That storyline could have been a 4-episode arc, OR MORE. We could have explored some of Sunny's childhood, seen more memories of Argyle, heck, ANYTHING. And NOBODY realizes the blanket is the mane 5 until it's sewed together? And they're just like "lol it's us" and then they move on??? What garbage writing.
It certainly made an interesting story, except that I feel like there are some holes here. Firstly how did someone forsee these events to predict the mane 5? Unless there is some pesky time travel from their future to the past. The queen said the throne room had not looked that way in a very long time, but maybe it's a preview of what the throne room will return to when Zipp and/or pipp takes over the throne. There is certainly no hinted presence of a 6th Pony, but that could be due to a number of reasons, maybe it's from their legacy, or maybe this belonged to the 6th member who took it with them in to the past to remind them of their friends in the future. As for how Argyle knew. Well the corner of his piece he probably saw the bottom left of Sunny. her skin tone and the color of mane. It would also not be hard to work out that she is in the centre of the picture. So he sees part of someone that resembles his Daughter. Then, in that piece he also sees a grown up version of his daughter's best friend Hitch resembling an aspect of being with animals, which he recognised from stories of fluttershy. It would not be too much of a leap to put 2 and 2 together and realise she was destined to bring back magic. Obviously he had no way of knowing about his own passing. But in knowing his daughter was fated to be the centre of new magic, along with Hitch, would explain why he did what he did and why he rebuffed Phyllis's comment so easily when he knew the future.
If you ask me, this episode confirms your theory that Argyle knew/predicted Sunny making friends, becoming an alicorn, and bringing back magic One issue I had with Argyle is that he likely knew Sunny's destiny, but he didn't bother to tell her or at least leave some kind of message. Turns out he did, but he expected Sunny to see the message before the events of the movie, which is why Sunny said "I already did, dad" Although I do have some questions like: -Why did it take years for Sunny to finally find the projector and blanket piece? (She almost broke it) Did Argyle intentionally hide it? Why couldn't Argyle be like "I have this gift for you, Sunny. Don't open it until your 18th birthday" or something? -How does Argyle know about the future? Did he have some kind of vision? Did he see the blanket before it was taken apart? Did Twilight herself tell him? -Why are we learning about this now? It would've made more sense if we learned about the prophecy in the movie I'm also confused that there's nothing magical about the blanket other than it glows. I was expecting it to have some kind of power or tie-in to Sunny's alicorn magic A good episode, but I still would've preferred this to be part of the Make Your Mark show, especially with how confusing the continuity is
I guess the answer to the first question would be that he died before he could tell Sunny, but then why the projector? Did he know something was going to happen? If so, why didn''t he say something like "If something happens to me, here is the key to open the attic" or something like that?
Remember he only had one third of the blanket, which only showed Hitch and part of a winged pony. Argyle would have no reason to think that the winged pony was an alicorn, or Sunny. He would've thought it was a pegasus. For all he knew it could have shown a scene from the past with historical figure Scootaloo.

The "lost of magic" is not something that happened "generations ago", but likely just a few decades before "A New Generation" [Queen Haven orchestrated the setup to "fake" her ability to fly], specially since she was teaching filly!Zipp how to perform acrobatics (something that would be unnecesary if she could actually fly & "uncout" for a princess otherwise). [My Theory]: . Sunny is the descendent of an "alicorn princess" [ Opaline may be her half-sister or cousin_x_times_removed ]. She was born just like she looks today (earth pony with a rainbow streak, ocasional "pony up" to etheral_alicorn). . The 3 crystals were the powersource for the light of the lighthouse [all 3 fit in the "machine" under the spherical crystal]. . When magic was sealed, Sunny lost her "rainbow streak" on her mane & alicorn powers (the crystals never "gave" her something new, only reawakened what was "already there").
I feel like it's not the destiny for the mane 5 to meet each others, they were already chosen to meet each others but who brought them together? Twilight? Luster Dawn? I did the research about technologies that appear in the MLP G4 and G5, I guess the G4 timeline can be around end of 1800s or early 1900s to end of 1900s or early 2000s. This period of time can be long enough for 10 generations, it took about 200-300 years. (My research can be uncertain)
This episode instantly became one of my new favorites by far, and i can't wait to see the mystery of this prophecy be explored more in future episodes of Tell Your Tale. or who knows maybe it'll be touched more upon in Make Your Mark we'll just have to wait and see, but i'll be looking forward to it either way. And i agree Doc Argyle mentioning 10 generations might finally be a clue to exactly how much time has passed since G4, and i also agree that this story should've been used in a longer episode or special because it left more questions than answers, i'm curious to know who made the blanket and predicted the prophecy and who know's they might even still be out there or at least left clues as to who they were. But anyway whatever the mystery brings us in future episodes i'm gonna be waiting.
If I had to make a guess it might be star swirl or the pillers could of made the blanket but who knows. It's like they were the choosen one to be the next ponies to continue to spread the magic of friendship. Twilight did say her work wasn't over even when she is gone.

10 Generations may not be that long, at least not long enough for everypony to forget everything, and let alone other races like dragons and such to just 'vanish' it seems. It could be the prophecy started then, but still long after Twilight. I mean in the start we had the Stained Glass window that showed three crystals. Though even with little Sparky, they said a Dragon hadn't been seen in 'Generations' as well.
I enjoyed watching them put an actual story together with a bit of a mystery/ fetch quest to revealing a prophecy via a blanket with Sunny and her Friends featured prominently on it. Nice to See Argyle again and have more screen time than in the Movie. Hopefully this can be carried over to the G5 series when it comes out. If not it would be a missed opportunity if they don’t touch on it at some point. Keep up the good work Doc.
The last time a bunch of this pre-destined stuff was mentioned it ended with more then a thousand years of planing and preparation, Harmony's and the magic of friend greatest triumphs somehow falling to the way side largely forgotten by nearly everyone and magic being lost to the world for generations. I just hope that Sunny and the others make their own choices rather then just "playing their parts".
I was expecting more from this “magical relic” when it was put together at the end. But then it turns out to be just a sparkling rug on the floor. Would have been cool it was a flying carpet or something.

Nope. . Twilight´s Kingdom (The "Era", not the episode). . Twilight´s Sucessors (likely NOT Luster Dawn). . Foundation (actually the "inverse", technically speaking) of the upper infraestructure of Zephyr Heights between mountain peaks & construction of the Lighthouse of Maretime Bay ( the Briddlewood Forest already exists, unlike its "town" ). . Rulership of Pegasy Nobility (likely after formal sesesion from "Equestria" on administrative matters, following the example of the Crystal Empire). A red tall "throne" is set on the highest point. . Formation of a "crystal singing" meta_structure near Briddlewood (posibly Twilight´s Castle, after it "exploded twice"). . A "seer" of some kind (likely a unicorn) with a tapestry weaver talent [similar cutiemark than Izzy] had a "vision" of future events [or was "told about" by a time-traveler from the future, but this is less likely given the way the blanket was detailed]. -> This "seer" completed their masterpiece and decided that "it is a future that must be preserved" (to not be known by those who may desire to change it); spliting it in 3 pieces and hiding each of them in a different object (set on the backgrounds that are shown in the others pieces). . (only THEN): "10 generations" passed. -> There are clues that "Equestria" passed through both an ICE AGE & a "magnetic pole reversal" [completely natural events], setting the G5 era about 10000+ years after the end of FiM (or ~8000, or ~13000).
I don't really have a problem with there being a prophecy, but I do wish that this was integrated into the Make Your Mark series. Heck, it could have even been the plot of the 2nd movie/ 1st special/ Chapter 1(?)
G4 never said how long a pony normally lives. They did hint that ponies may live for a long time, possibly centuries as Granny Smith was a young mare when her family founded the farm that would become Sweet Apple Acres, the discovery of zap apples and zap apple jam. I would say it's safe to assume that at the beginning of season 1 of Friendship is Magic Granny Smith is over 200 years old. I would say that the average pony can live into the low-100s, so 10 generations could 1000 years or more.
The theory is good, but you don't take into account the comic telling about the fall of Equestria, and they give a hint how many years have passed, but definitely not 1000 years. In addition, you have never heard of centenarians, they can live up to 100 years or even more. I think that 300 years have passed after all, long enough, but not enough to forget about mane 6 at all.

@@oldeskul And you believe that ponies can live for 100 years, which is unlikely. Rather, the one you gave as an example, are just isolated cases of life like ours, their level is the same as ours, because there was no widely known phenomenon as a long life of ponies, except for alicorns. And with famous personalities, a separate problem, because some will want to forget after 100 years, and others will be remembered even after 1,000,000 years.
I feel like the mane 6 created this prophecy knowing that Sunny, Izzy, Hitch, Zipp and Pipp would be the ones to bring the magic back to equestria and that Sunny would be the one to become the next alicorn
My headcanon on baby Sunny’s multicolored mane is Argyle used temporary dye or something similar to make absolutely sure the pony on the blanket was a future Sunny.
But the multicoloured hair wasn’t visible on the piece Argyle had, so that would mean he went into Zephyr Heights AND Bridal Woods, somehow not get noticed and found all pieces, then put them together to see it, then go back and HIDE the pieces again And while I supposed it’s possible if we assume it took him multiple years the one in Zephyr Heights was in the throne room and they needed magic from all 3 species to get it, I’m not even gonna think about him getting the Bridal Woods one
@@iambadatnamingthings3547 very good point, however even though we don’t see one he probably could’ve had a picture of the whole blanket. The piece had only had one pony, future hitch, on it and he clearly was talking about a group of ponies.
One thing I noticed at the end was Pipp took a picture of the blanket. It makes me wonder how the other ponies in Equestria will react if/when she posts it.
No telling what other possible new villians are lurking about. Opaline is one of the new villians of this new Equestria. Be up to Sunny and her friends to stop her. With new era of Unity, comes new viians. Old ones should return to as well. Test the Mane 5 and help them grow more. All I got to say.
I just found this to be very surprising. I don't really know what to make of this. Maybe the upcoming series will explain it. We will have to wait and see.
I was at work when I watched that last episode, and I was an absolute shock. It got me kind of emotional. what is even crazier about the direction they’re taking with their storyline is that I was going to write a fanfic, and I still have some of it written out, where discord was the one who took the three amulets apart and hit them among the three tribes. This was long before it was discovered that Twilight actually made the amulets, or the Discord comic. I’m not sure if I should finish that fanfic now, but it centered around discord in the final days of the pony tribes being together and that he solemnly wrote a note to princess twilight, who was no longer there, and that he followed all her instructions on what to do. Except he was the one who was supposed to take all the magic out of Equestria and put it in those crystals. It was also due to the magic disappearing from Equestria into the human world which was causing humans to live a lot longer, as well as sunset shimmer and the gang being semi immortal due to their own elements. I’m not saying I predicted these events, but it was one of the first options I thought of on how they would take the story. For me to actually be on the nose with it nearly 90%, shocks me a lot. Especially since that is not the direction I would have liked MLP to go with the loss of magic.
Random idea that flashed through my mind: Opaline had captured Argyle a few years ago and has held him captive since in order to get some information out of him
Given that both Argyle´s glasses and his "talisman" [made of wood] were present at the lighthouse, she would had needed to setup an "accident" leaving an identical dead body in his place (something difficult to do without magic). -> He is dead. He died suddendly (likely not from an "accident" that could destroy his glasses, but rather an aneurism or heart attack); otherwise he would had "guided" Sunny on her quest [mentioning the blanket or the Earth Pony Crystal].
There should also be a blanket prophecizing alicorn Sunny being defeated by a group of villains (some of them are actually Opaline, Sombra & G4's Mean 3). It would've give Sunny the motivation be stronger as Twilight.
This episode was actually why I started a tiktok to talk about lore! (yes, ik tiktok is "cringe" but I don't have time to edit a quality youtube video and i prefer the relatively short formats a lot more anyways) i had the same idea on the blanket being a prophecy too, and I really do hope that's the case! I can't figure out why the blanket glows, though. I came up with an alternate theory that the blanket was enchanted to change according to its wielders as a counter-theory to the prophecy, but there seems to be enough evidence to sway me from that idea as for sunny's rainbow streak, I'm really hoping this isn't just a continuity error! When I watched it, I thought that it could mean that Sunny was born with her alicorn powers which brings into question if one of her ancestors is an alicorn too! I'm also interested in another theory I heard through my tiktok's comment section that Sunny's mother was a unicorn and when she had died, the alicorn unity (earth pony, unicorn, and pegasus combined) was broken in her lineage. It's a little muddled up, but it's an interesting to idea to entertain. It'd also help explain how each piece of the blanket ended up in totally different places, one for each tribe! I ended the tiktok by saying there's not enough information to explain what's going on with sunny's rainbow streak and lineage (and I still stand by that). Hopefully we'll get more information about it in the netflix show so we can form a much more solid theory ^^
I was wondering if it would be important later but I figured it wasn’t because of the 5 minutes TH-cam episode, maybe it’s a teaser for the lore and a full episode will be released with the quest but longer or maybe it’s to get people who’re only watching the shorts interested in watching the full episodes
Ten generations, that means at least 200 years. Far longer has time past then I would have guessed but does bring credence to how things have fallen so far with that much of a time gap. Much appreciated that we are getting more lore but really hoping the Make Your Mark portion expands on this more. More than ready to have them go on a big epic adventure now.
You forgot one thing DrWolf Queen Haven even say she haven't seen that throne room look like that for centuries. and like you pointed out Argyle say ancient pony artifact family blanket past down for 10 generations. 10 generations + Centuries that would be a really long time ago since the last episode. Even more than that.
This is the reason why I love Tell Your Tale. It expanded the characters and now it tries to expand the lore. Despite the art style, it's a decent show.

In terms of your theory, one possible fact is that Argyle's disappearance was related to the Dark Alicorn who once showed up in MYM. She eliminated him after learning Argyle was guided by the prophecy and accidentally revealed her secret that was forbidden

At least according to Google, 30 years in a generation - which, IF CORRECT would mean that it has been passed down for at least 300 years - no idea if it is 300 years post FiM, or 300 years, or if between FiM and the 300 years there is some additional time where events occurred that aren't being accounted for (and whose length we don't know). Seems, IMO at least, like we can't use that specific timeframe **ALONE** (of how long it was passed down) to say how much time has passed for sure between FiM and the events that mark G5's beginning, but we can say that we have at least SOME of the distance for sure.

I was shocked to see a very important lore episode as a short? Also when sunny's dad mentioned family and sunny said she was the only one left. Does that mean that her mom is no longer alive?
It is even WORSE than that... They not only "confirmed" that Sunny´s mom has being dead since she was a little foal (posibly dying from birth complications?), but also that Sunny has no siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles. -> Not only she is "an orphan", but her entire "lineage" ends with her [posibly also explaining why she MUST be the one to fulfill the prophecy].

10 generations, huh? That... doesn't really clear up the time difference between G4 and G5. It all depends on how much time past between generations for this to work. Again, there's too much stuff still physically intact from Equestria’s past for it to have been too long, but Argyle specifically said "ancient" Equestria in the movie and ancient implies WAY longer than just 10 generations normally would be. G5's lore is honestly just too confusing for me and they really need to clarify what is and isn't really going on. Canterlot cannot be in the condition Mt. Airus was in the G4 movie if is now part of ancient history, nor should the train station Zipp showed Sunny and Izzy be in such pristine condition if it also is part of ancient Equestria

A generation is usually between 20 to 30 years. So if the math works out, the timeskip between G4 and G5 is somewhere around 200 to 300 years. I could be wrong though
In an interview, the writers of the movie and special have stated outright that they were making things up as they went along. There was no story bible as a backbone. Hasbro's board rejected the various proposals because they did not fit their 'Brand Blueprint'. The new 5 were creations of the board and told the writers they could do whatever they wanted as long as it fits within the Brand Blueprint. The new show's writers are the ones who will deal with the continuity fallout. Or not.
Given that both Twilight & Flurry Heart are alicorns (sterile unless drained of magic, like how it happened to Cadance in the Season 4 finale); unless Shining Armor had a secret lover [who run away with his foal without ever telling him]; it is probably more likely for Argyle & Sunny to be related to Starswirl The Bearded [there was a painting of him in the old lighthouse].
10 generations... Well, if someone lives to their 80's, they can be a great-great-great grandparent, depending on the age of the others gave birth. that there is 80 years. or even 100 to be "save" . So very rough guess would be anywhere between 500-1000 years have passed I think

This feels like a mixture of both Celestia setting up the mane 6, and the cutie mark connections between them. Basically the G5 version of those two things together.
I think the split of the pony races was a result of the G4 finale, because even though everyone worked together to defeat.. does that group of 3 villains have a name? just gonna call them the 3vil. anyways, as I was saying, they had to defeat the 3vil by working together, but I bet there was still some tension because it doesn't just all go away in a day.

season 8 finale that cozy glow and tirek plan to drain all the magic in equestria using a powerful drain spell that the young six stopped might have not entirely stopped the spell properly and still continue to drain equestria of its magic but much more significantly slowly and twilight sparkle at some point during her reign as princess of equestria began to notice the problem and created the Crystals that represented the three pony races
season 9 chrysalis ended up shapeshifting into different pony races and spreading negative and racist propaganda as a distraction twice first to get to grogar bell and second to set up a trap for the mane six. Chrysalis negative and racist propaganda might have long lasting effects that twilight didn’t see until it was too late to try and stop it

Argyle and baby sunny were cute and heartwarming. The "blanket" would make a really neat stained glass window. The ancient prophecy bit...while I know it's not terribly uncommon in Equestria canonically speaking, I prefer to think that Argyle was a historian and overall great dad, he didn't have some mystical "voice" telling him that his daughter would do big things, he just loved her and believed in her which inspired her to become who she is without any of this pre-destiny stuff. Anyway, this is now on my list of top 5 episodes of TYT.
All that world building is there, just for Sunny to learn a simple friends = family story. There a way to make this not damaging in Agyle character. Have Sunny find a letter from Dad telling what happened, go to the place where the event happened, haves so friends goofing off, find the projector, and then have Aygle tell Sunny his last words, and how her connections are the true family. Done. simple. Don’t make Aygle seem like that type of father.

@@word6344 possibly, but I still don't entirely like foretold prophecies, at least when it comes across as super specific like this one. The blanket even had the exact same mane and coat colors right. Seems too coincidental for my taste. Feels kind of like some of the stories that suggest that Princess Celestia knew or even had a hoof in Twilight Sparkle being the Element of Magic long before her mother's mother was even born.

Best Tell Your Tale episode yet. Wish I could see Phyllis, Queen Haven and Alphabittle's reaction to the magic blanket. Hard to believe Queen Haven's servants couldn't discover the blanket fragment by accident when trying to sweep under the throne, then again it took combined Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn magic to move. Who made this blanket? And how did they know what was to come? If this blanket was made 300 years ago, then there may have been special ponies and creatures at work, even when the pony races were divided. They might even be behind the scenes today and ready to reveal themselves to the Mane Five.
Seeing as 200 to 300 years has possibly passed, which is a lot of time, many things could be forgotten, some historical events would be considered myth/legend and yet some of the creatures and events that took place, could still be around waiting to be found. It would be kind of neat if the young six had something to do with this new prophecy to keep what Twilight taught them from being erased, stop a disaster from occurring or to continue her teachings for future generations. Twilight definitely created a legacy.

I did think that, like you said Doc, the blanket was a prophecy when I first saw the episode. I do like thinking that maybe the blanket was made by a pony that could predict the future, maybe not Twilight but somepony else. If it is a prophecy, than that would be cool, and make the series even more promising.

yea, Opaline must have known and was bidding her time the whole entire time. Maybe Princess Twilight was able to look into the future or hell, even go to the future and foresaw what was going to happen. I would say that Princess Twilight knew that the pony tribes would separate again but also knew that they would get back together with the new Mane 5 at the helm, so she prepared the rug in advance and had it passed on from generation to generation with the intent that it was going to be very important someday, at least that would be the speculation. If the rug had to be divided and hidden in such a convoluted manner, then maybe that would attest to the power or threat that Opaline presents.

Back in ye olden days, the chosen ones would have to be Starswirl and the Pillars of Equestria, but then later on its the Mane 6 and so on and so forth. Argyle said its been like 10 generations, that's a long time, and plenty of time for different "chosen ones" to have existed before Sunny and the G5 crew.

Okay so a generation typically is around 30 years. So that means it has been at least 300 years since generation 4.
I love the idea that Sunny's mane did lose it's color and it's why Argyle was so sure Sunny would be the one to restore magic. I plan to potentially interoperate it into my Story about Sunny's mother (which was inspired by your post on Sunny's mom possibly being an alicorn, so thank you again for that bit of inspiration), and I can't wait to see where it goes.
It was an interesting tell your tale shorts if that relic was that old maybe the main 6 from gen 4 may know about it before their downfall. I think twilight and the main 6 have stopped magic so Opaline can't continue her evil plans until the mane 5 can deal with her in the future hence the relic in order to save equestria. The question now remains is who has made this relic.
We know that Celestia could see into the near future through ambiguous "visions" she has instead of normal dreams.
. She requested aditional protection measures for Cadance´s Wedding because she wake up with a sense of dread (unable to recall what she has seen in her trance).
. When she had a "vision" related to Tirek, Luna was watching her dream/prophecy (probably waking her up in a way that would help her to retain those memories).
. It is implied that she knew well in advance that Discord would be both free & "necesary" at some point in the future (as well as being "close" to some yellow pegasus), hence when she eventually "connected the dots", it was Celestia the one giving the specific sugestion of Fluttershy trying to redeem Discord .
There is also timetravel.
It would make much more sense for somepony to go back in time AFTER watching Sunny & her friends bring back magic, making the "blanket" as a way to preserve knowledge [since aparently all memories and WRITTEN texts about the past of Equestria seem to be erased/altered].

It's kind of unusual on how that tapestry predicted that the Mane 5 becomes well, Mane 5. As the whole fabric is magical, it can predict anything. Now I want to see a fanart of the G4 version
Yeah, I agree. Maybe it magically shows a part of the owner's life, but they don't get to choose. It may also be possible that other ponies see different things on it. That would explain why Argyle stored it away rather than make sure Sunny always had it. If he saw what she saw, we probably would've seen him doing something with it in the first movie.

Like with most things in this latest iteration of the franchise, my thoughts are "what the actually HECK are they smoking over there??" That storyline could have been a 4-episode arc, OR MORE. We could have explored some of Sunny's childhood, seen more memories of Argyle, heck, ANYTHING. And NOBODY realizes the blanket is the mane 5 until it's sewed together? And they're just like "lol it's us" and then they move on??? What garbage writing.
It certainly made an interesting story, except that I feel like there are some holes here. Firstly how did someone forsee these events to predict the mane 5? Unless there is some pesky time travel from their future to the past. The queen said the throne room had not looked that way in a very long time, but maybe it's a preview of what the throne room will return to when Zipp and/or pipp takes over the throne.
There is certainly no hinted presence of a 6th Pony, but that could be due to a number of reasons, maybe it's from their legacy, or maybe this belonged to the 6th member who took it with them in to the past to remind them of their friends in the future.
As for how Argyle knew. Well the corner of his piece he probably saw the bottom left of Sunny. her skin tone and the color of mane. It would also not be hard to work out that she is in the centre of the picture. So he sees part of someone that resembles his Daughter. Then, in that piece he also sees a grown up version of his daughter's best friend Hitch resembling an aspect of being with animals, which he recognised from stories of fluttershy. It would not be too much of a leap to put 2 and 2 together and realise she was destined to bring back magic.
Obviously he had no way of knowing about his own passing. But in knowing his daughter was fated to be the centre of new magic, along with Hitch, would explain why he did what he did and why he rebuffed Phyllis's comment so easily when he knew the future.
If you ask me, this episode confirms your theory that Argyle knew/predicted Sunny making friends, becoming an alicorn, and bringing back magic
One issue I had with Argyle is that he likely knew Sunny's destiny, but he didn't bother to tell her or at least leave some kind of message. Turns out he did, but he expected Sunny to see the message before the events of the movie, which is why Sunny said "I already did, dad"
Although I do have some questions like:
-Why did it take years for Sunny to finally find the projector and blanket piece? (She almost broke it) Did Argyle intentionally hide it? Why couldn't Argyle be like "I have this gift for you, Sunny. Don't open it until your 18th birthday" or something?
-How does Argyle know about the future? Did he have some kind of vision? Did he see the blanket before it was taken apart? Did Twilight herself tell him?
-Why are we learning about this now? It would've made more sense if we learned about the prophecy in the movie
I'm also confused that there's nothing magical about the blanket other than it glows. I was expecting it to have some kind of power or tie-in to Sunny's alicorn magic

Remember he only had one third of the blanket, which only showed Hitch and part of a winged pony. Argyle would have no reason to think that the winged pony was an alicorn, or Sunny. He would've thought it was a pegasus. For all he knew it could have shown a scene from the past with historical figure Scootaloo.

The "lost of magic" is not something that happened "generations ago", but likely just a few decades before "A New Generation" [Queen Haven orchestrated the setup to "fake" her ability to fly], specially since she was teaching filly!Zipp how to perform acrobatics (something that would be unnecesary if she could actually fly & "uncout" for a princess otherwise).
[My Theory]:
. Sunny is the descendent of an "alicorn princess" [ Opaline may be her half-sister or cousin_x_times_removed ]. She was born just like she looks today (earth pony with a rainbow streak, ocasional "pony up" to etheral_alicorn).
. The 3 crystals were the powersource for the light of the lighthouse [all 3 fit in the "machine" under the spherical crystal].
. When magic was sealed, Sunny lost her "rainbow streak" on her mane & alicorn powers (the crystals never "gave" her something new, only reawakened what was "already there").
I feel like it's not the destiny for the mane 5 to meet each others, they were already chosen to meet each others but who brought them together? Twilight? Luster Dawn?
I did the research about technologies that appear in the MLP G4 and G5, I guess the G4 timeline can be around end of 1800s or early 1900s to end of 1900s or early 2000s. This period of time can be long enough for 10 generations, it took about 200-300 years.

This episode instantly became one of my new favorites by far, and i can't wait to see the mystery of this prophecy be explored more in future episodes of Tell Your Tale. or who knows maybe it'll be touched more upon in Make Your Mark we'll just have to wait and see, but i'll be looking forward to it either way.
And i agree Doc Argyle mentioning 10 generations might finally be a clue to exactly how much time has passed since G4, and i also agree that this story should've been used in a longer episode or special because it left more questions than answers, i'm curious to know who made the blanket and predicted the prophecy and who know's they might even still be out there or at least left clues as to who they were.
But anyway whatever the mystery brings us in future episodes i'm gonna be waiting.
If I had to make a guess it might be star swirl or the pillers could of made the blanket but who knows. It's like they were the choosen one to be the next ponies to continue to spread the magic of friendship. Twilight did say her work wasn't over even when she is gone.

10 Generations may not be that long, at least not long enough for everypony to forget everything, and let alone other races like dragons and such to just 'vanish' it seems. It could be the prophecy started then, but still long after Twilight. I mean in the start we had the Stained Glass window that showed three crystals. Though even with little Sparky, they said a Dragon hadn't been seen in 'Generations' as well.
I enjoyed watching them put an actual story together with a bit of a mystery/ fetch quest to revealing a prophecy via a blanket with Sunny and her Friends featured prominently on it. Nice to See Argyle again and have more screen time than in the Movie. Hopefully this can be carried over to the G5 series when it comes out. If not it would be a missed opportunity if they don’t touch on it at some point. Keep up the good work Doc.
The last time a bunch of this pre-destined stuff was mentioned it ended with more then a thousand years of planing and preparation, Harmony's and the magic of friend greatest triumphs somehow falling to the way side largely forgotten by nearly everyone and magic being lost to the world for generations. I just hope that Sunny and the others make their own choices rather then just "playing their parts".

-> This "seer" completed their masterpiece and decided that "it is a future that must be preserved" (to not be known by those who may desire to change it); spliting it in 3 pieces and hiding each of them in a different object (set on the backgrounds that are shown in the others pieces).
. (only THEN): "10 generations" passed.
-> There are clues that "Equestria" passed through both an ICE AGE & a "magnetic pole reversal" [completely natural events], setting the G5 era about 10000+ years after the end of FiM (or ~8000, or ~13000).
I don't really have a problem with there being a prophecy, but I do wish that this was integrated into the Make Your Mark series. Heck, it could have even been the plot of the 2nd movie/ 1st special/ Chapter 1(?)

G4 never said how long a pony normally lives. They did hint that ponies may live for a long time, possibly centuries as Granny Smith was a young mare when her family founded the farm that would become Sweet Apple Acres, the discovery of zap apples and zap apple jam. I would say it's safe to assume that at the beginning of season 1 of Friendship is Magic Granny Smith is over 200 years old. I would say that the average pony can live into the low-100s, so 10 generations could 1000 years or more.
The theory is good, but you don't take into account the comic telling about the fall of Equestria, and they give a hint how many years have passed, but definitely not 1000 years. In addition, you have never heard of centenarians, they can live up to 100 years or even more. I think that 300 years have passed after all, long enough, but not enough to forget about mane 6 at all.

@@oldeskul And you believe that ponies can live for 100 years, which is unlikely. Rather, the one you gave as an example, are just isolated cases of life like ours, their level is the same as ours, because there was no widely known phenomenon as a long life of ponies, except for alicorns.
And with famous personalities, a separate problem, because some will want to forget after 100 years, and others will be remembered even after 1,000,000 years.
I feel like the mane 6 created this prophecy knowing that Sunny, Izzy, Hitch, Zipp and Pipp would be the ones to bring the magic back to equestria and that Sunny would be the one to become the next alicorn
I would have loved a longer version of this story too.
My headcanon on baby Sunny’s multicolored mane is Argyle used temporary dye or something similar to make absolutely sure the pony on the blanket was a future Sunny.
But the multicoloured hair wasn’t visible on the piece Argyle had, so that would mean he went into Zephyr Heights AND Bridal Woods, somehow not get noticed and found all pieces, then put them together to see it, then go back and HIDE the pieces again
And while I supposed it’s possible if we assume it took him multiple years the one in Zephyr Heights was in the throne room and they needed magic from all 3 species to get it, I’m not even gonna think about him getting the Bridal Woods one
@@iambadatnamingthings3547 very good point, however even though we don’t see one he probably could’ve had a picture of the whole blanket. The piece had only had one pony, future hitch, on it and he clearly was talking about a group of ponies.
One thing I noticed at the end was Pipp took a picture of the blanket. It makes me wonder how the other ponies in Equestria will react if/when she posts it.

No telling what other possible new villians are lurking about. Opaline is one of the new villians of this new Equestria. Be up to Sunny and her friends to stop her. With new era of Unity, comes new viians. Old ones should return to as well. Test the Mane 5 and help them grow more. All I got to say.
I just found this to be very surprising. I don't really know what to make of this. Maybe the upcoming series will explain it. We will have to wait and see.
I was at work when I watched that last episode, and I was an absolute shock. It got me kind of emotional. what is even crazier about the direction they’re taking with their storyline is that I was going to write a fanfic, and I still have some of it written out, where discord was the one who took the three amulets apart and hit them among the three tribes. This was long before it was discovered that Twilight actually made the amulets, or the Discord comic.
I’m not sure if I should finish that fanfic now, but it centered around discord in the final days of the pony tribes being together and that he solemnly wrote a note to princess twilight, who was no longer there, and that he followed all her instructions on what to do. Except he was the one who was supposed to take all the magic out of Equestria and put it in those crystals. It was also due to the magic disappearing from Equestria into the human world which was causing humans to live a lot longer, as well as sunset shimmer and the gang being semi immortal due to their own elements. I’m not saying I predicted these events, but it was one of the first options I thought of on how they would take the story. For me to actually be on the nose with it nearly 90%, shocks me a lot. Especially since that is not the direction I would have liked MLP to go with the loss of magic.
I loved the newest episode and seeing her dad again was beautiful they really pulled off that episode and it was a pleasant to watch I love it ❤

Random idea that flashed through my mind: Opaline had captured Argyle a few years ago and has held him captive since in order to get some information out of him
Given that both Argyle´s glasses and his "talisman" [made of wood] were present at the lighthouse, she would had needed to setup an "accident" leaving an identical dead body in his place (something difficult to do without magic).
-> He is dead. He died suddendly (likely not from an "accident" that could destroy his glasses, but rather an aneurism or heart attack); otherwise he would had "guided" Sunny on her quest [mentioning the blanket or the Earth Pony Crystal].
There should also be a blanket prophecizing alicorn Sunny being defeated by a group of villains (some of them are actually Opaline, Sombra & G4's Mean 3). It would've give Sunny the motivation be stronger as Twilight.
This episode was actually why I started a tiktok to talk about lore! (yes, ik tiktok is "cringe" but I don't have time to edit a quality youtube video and i prefer the relatively short formats a lot more anyways)
i had the same idea on the blanket being a prophecy too, and I really do hope that's the case! I can't figure out why the blanket glows, though. I came up with an alternate theory that the blanket was enchanted to change according to its wielders as a counter-theory to the prophecy, but there seems to be enough evidence to sway me from that idea
as for sunny's rainbow streak, I'm really hoping this isn't just a continuity error! When I watched it, I thought that it could mean that Sunny was born with her alicorn powers which brings into question if one of her ancestors is an alicorn too!
I'm also interested in another theory I heard through my tiktok's comment section that Sunny's mother was a unicorn and when she had died, the alicorn unity (earth pony, unicorn, and pegasus combined) was broken in her lineage. It's a little muddled up, but it's an interesting to idea to entertain. It'd also help explain how each piece of the blanket ended up in totally different places, one for each tribe!
I ended the tiktok by saying there's not enough information to explain what's going on with sunny's rainbow streak and lineage (and I still stand by that). Hopefully we'll get more information about it in the netflix show so we can form a much more solid theory ^^

Ten generations, that means at least 200 years. Far longer has time past then I would have guessed but does bring credence to how things have fallen so far with that much of a time gap. Much appreciated that we are getting more lore but really hoping the Make Your Mark portion expands on this more. More than ready to have them go on a big epic adventure now.

This is the reason why I love Tell Your Tale. It expanded the characters and now it tries to expand the lore. Despite the art style, it's a decent show.
The art style was really off putting for me, idk why they're putting so much lore stuff in TH-cam EPs. I thought it was gonna be like basic slice of life fun stuff like pony life thing (I watched like half of that and then got bored)

In terms of your theory, one possible fact is that Argyle's disappearance was related to the Dark Alicorn who once showed up in MYM. She eliminated him after learning Argyle was guided by the prophecy and accidentally revealed her secret that was forbidden

At least according to Google, 30 years in a generation - which, IF CORRECT would mean that it has been passed down for at least 300 years - no idea if it is 300 years post FiM, or 300 years, or if between FiM and the 300 years there is some additional time where events occurred that aren't being accounted for (and whose length we don't know).
Seems, IMO at least, like we can't use that specific timeframe **ALONE** (of how long it was passed down) to say how much time has passed for sure between FiM and the events that mark G5's beginning, but we can say that we have at least SOME of the distance for sure.
Interesting to know that there have been possibly 10 generations between the generations

It all depends on how much time past between generations for this to work.
Again, there's too much stuff still physically intact from Equestria’s past for it to have been too long, but Argyle specifically said "ancient" Equestria in the movie and ancient implies WAY longer than just 10 generations normally would be.
G5's lore is honestly just too confusing for me and they really need to clarify what is and isn't really going on.
Canterlot cannot be in the condition Mt. Airus was in the G4 movie if is now part of ancient history, nor should the train station Zipp showed Sunny and Izzy be in such pristine condition if it also is part of ancient Equestria

A generation is usually between 20 to 30 years. So if the math works out, the timeskip between G4 and G5 is somewhere around 200 to 300 years. I could be wrong though

In an interview, the writers of the movie and special have stated outright that they were making things up as they went along. There was no story bible as a backbone. Hasbro's board rejected the various proposals because they did not fit their 'Brand Blueprint'. The new 5 were creations of the board and told the writers they could do whatever they wanted as long as it fits within the Brand Blueprint. The new show's writers are the ones who will deal with the continuity fallout. Or not.

Given that both Twilight & Flurry Heart are alicorns (sterile unless drained of magic, like how it happened to Cadance in the Season 4 finale); unless Shining Armor had a secret lover [who run away with his foal without ever telling him]; it is probably more likely for Argyle & Sunny to be related to Starswirl The Bearded [there was a painting of him in the old lighthouse].

I haven’t seen the episode but I think I just realize something. What if Opaline was actually the former queen/princess of a Questria before all magic got lost and when she went off to try and fix it with her assistant Misty, she got corrupted
