Beautiful personality,plenty of charm , lovely.
What an amazing family. It was a different world 30 years ago and the stuff the mom is saying is revolutionary for the times. She understood it was a life or death matter for her child to be able to live in a body that aligned with her mind and spirit.
I love the way she answers back to this guy who is not the best host to deal with and with a fake smile.
Love her... always disliked him. He was not sensitive.. those are inappropriate questions... asking about a person's genital or joking about "circumcision".
I thought it was a good joke she turned Jewish and she had the snip 😆, she was laughing throughout the whole show at his jokes, it makes the show fun and everyone seemed to relax with the fun, I thought he was very accepting for the time.

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how amazing David is? When he says, "when I'm with her, sexuality is just not important" - I think he means that on some conscious level he knows she made a change, was, once, biologically male, but he accepts her and sees her as nothing less than a woman, and that being with her and feeling her trumps everything else. This is true love.
The thing her chromosomes are xxy and some are xxxy so she was never a man .
@@anniejennings4560 yes I agree but many people will still be bigoted and view her as such. So he is still remarkable in the way he comes forward and celebrates her as woman, with no shame. Especially for the time being.

Geraldo's remark asking her if she considered herself a freak was totally uncalled for. He's never been with a woman as beautiful as Tula as well as wonderful personality. Her laugh is contagious and full. Love her❤

Caroline, so fabulous that you made these old videos available. It's an amazing historical treasure and will help a lot of trans people even today. Your courage back then helped pave the way for many in the years that followed. It would be spectacular if we could see you again today . I'm sure that your beautiful smile is as brilliant now so many years later as as it was back then.
I see her as always being a femail. I love how she described how she felt when she was younger and that she had to change when she was very young.
I never felt that way about Bruce Jenner, I feel as though he lived his life as a lie the whole entire time. And it's just completely different. I will never see him as a female, Never, ever, ever, but this woman Tula is absolutely beautiful.

As much as I hate how rude an invasive the interviewers questions are. I must say that Caroline and her family and her husband were all so graceful. And I’m happy they stayed on the shoe for the entire time. It really showcased how a family with a trans family member can be. It can be normal, accepting and loving. And it’s so impressive to see a relationship like this especially for it being the 90s.
Thank you Caroline for sharing these amazing interviews, your strength and persistence is truly inspirational. To speak so intelligently about these issues, without defence and with class and beauty on your side; I can't imagine the positive impact and understanding you perpetuated at a time when little was known about the trans community outside the sensationalist tabloid articles you fell victim to. Wishing all the happiness and health in the world to you an amazing lady!

My god! “Whoda thunk” Geraldo would be surprisingly gracious and affirming? ;) Caroline is a “dream miracle” who, by her own sacrifice, allowed families like mine to accept and embrace us. The staggering courage in the face of abject adversity is truly beyond comprehension. It’s incomprehensible the media ignorance and mistreatment, yet transcending with aplomb. Truly my superheroine, without whom I literally might not exist! :) ✨💕🌷

I saw you years ago at the Roof Gardens Club in Kensington. I wanted to go up and tell you how your book helped me in my teens with my journey toward coming out as gay. But, I was too shy back then LOL. Funny enough my best mate from school turned out to be transsexual and next month we will celebrate our 50th birthdays together in the US. All my love to you Caroline and thank you for all you have done for transsexual people. You are inspirational woman xxx

Geraldo is an idiot. Look at his stereotypical questions. He is the worst, however she handled him with so much respect, he did not deserve.

Lovely Caroline, I am educating myself about your story after seeing a brief clip of you on "Disclosure". Firstly, I admire you so much. Your story and the way you open up about your experiences is so honest, pure and courageous all at the same time. You are just a lovely woman inside out, head to toe. Secondly, I just love the way you speak to people and are so personable - it's such a salt-of-the-earth quality to have, and such a damn good sense of humour to go with it. I wish you were my friend.

Female in every way , body language , movements ,gestures , and so many subtle nuances of expression , She is totally a gal man . and a gorgeous one at that . She was born with a condition that gave her XXXY chromosomes, so she was already very feminine despite having male parts. She was one of those few people who were really in that gray sexual limbo. And also kudos to her husband. He probably got a lot of flak for marrying a “man”.

Something about her reminds me of princess Diana just how she responds to questions and her grace.
I would not consider Tula to be a "Transsexual" because of her chromosomal makeup. She literally has more X chromosomes than most women, she just happened to have a Y in there as well. I would consider her case to be a true developmental genetic disorder. She was born intersexed and had both characteristics of male and female. She chose to express what she felt was her dominant gender. This is much different in my opinion than XX or XY persons which may be caused from psychological disturbances.

Geraldo is such a fool, his twitching and constant giggling said so much about him. The line of questioning says so much about the time. I'd like to think she would have been offered more respect had this been now. I have seen a number of interviews and she certainly has more patience with people than I would. I think people had more of a problem with her because she is so beautiful. You can tell by what they say, its quite the opposite of how they actually feel. But they are embarrassed to admit it.
This made me smile til my cheeks hurt! Caroline, you're truly an incredible person to have faced all that scrutiny with so much courage and courtesy. I cringed at some of those questions and comments, which is a nice reminder that we've made some progress in the way we talk about trans issues, well, at least in some circles. I sometimes feel depressed that we're coming up on 2017 and the LGBTQ community is still fighting many of the same battles you addressed in this video-- seeing your beaming face under what must've been enormous and terrible pressure is profoundly inspiring. The support of your wonderful family is so touching -- and seeing the teary eyed reactions of audience members too, I shed a few myself :) It's hard to have faith in humanity in these uncertain times, and this video was a real comfort, thank you so much for sharing

Truly, she is every bit the definition of a woman!
She has more chromosomes than an average man or woman. I cannot remember if she said it was XXY. But she does not have the correct chromosomal make up for a normal male . That being said that makes me empathetic to her situation. She said it was not kleinfelter's syndrome where you are inter sexed, but used another term, recently on her podcast. She was born with male genitalia but the chromosomes were not right. So I support her because that proves she had something wrong with the chromosomal make up making her not truly male. I remember beautiful ads before she was found out to have been born with male genitalia. Major ad campaigns where she worked for Smirnoff Vodka. She worked on the set of a Bond movie as one of the beautiful girls, & was probably one of the prettiest girls. It was wrong for journalists not to point out the chromosomal make up which was not your typical male chromosomal make up. Obviously that proves something is wrong. She still looks great in her 60's. I hope she is happy. Her family was very supportive which was great. She has a special case unlike other people where she has more chromosomes which probably make her more female. I remember a case of a young female ice skater that was competitive that found at age 16 she had testes, & a penis, & later let those drop & was able to have children as a male. But he later married & had children successfully, so I am thinking the penis & testes were inside him.

In the three years from her interview with the eloquent and understanding Phil Donahue, it becomes apparent the direction the talk show hosts were heading when it comes to Geraldo. Just three years on and he shows a more obvious childish approach to the subject of transsexuality, often lowering the seriousness of the guest in favour of gutter humour, or the need to feed the audiences curiosity with inane and often childish comments regarding her gender and how the masses have taken to it. A few years later on from this interview and the likes of Jerry Springer had fully turned the subject in to a circus curiosity, or a freak show. Disgraceful.
Despite all the dumb and inane questions and comments posed by the host, Caroline and her lovely husband remained graceful and professional.
I feel that Geraldo did a better job than most. I think what I feel from him is that he genuinely admires her and he felt a warm rapport with Caroline and David. However, he did ask a few typical "curious, horney, flabbergasted typical hetero male" questions, yet he did so with much more respect and gentle humor than Arsenio Hall, who was crass, crude, and cringeworthy.
@@SmoothCinnamonXI don't buy that for a second. He might have liked her, but he could've handled the interview in a less of a piss taking manner. He may have been better than Arsenio, but that isn't saying anything because he was still an ignorant ass looking for a cheap laugh at Caroline's expense. She just happened to be adept at handling his childishness in a graceful manner which diffused it from becoming a chaotic mess.
I know this is a very dated video but I hope this lovely couple are doing fine and I'd love to know what they're doing and is there a baby ?
From what I can dig up, she's still in the US and she's happily married to David but has turned her back on the limelight in favour of living a happy, private life.

"Caroline had been desperate for a family with David and two surrogate mums - her sister and a close friend - agreed to help. But their circumstances changed and Caroline’s chance of motherhood slipped by.
She says: “It was incredibly painful but just wasn’t meant to be. We made our peace with it.”"
Why haven't you tried other surrogates? Some women treat it as a job and can be surrogates for a fee. It is still not too late to try that.
What did happen that your sister and your friend couldn't help in the end?
It's really shocking to hear some of the questions this interviewer asks. What on earth possessed him to say "and you don't consider yourself a freak?" Thank God it's 2016. Still so far to go but wow, this is really appalling.

I agree w/your perspective on not telling Elias right away. I dated guys for years w/o telling them, I didn't lie or create a fraud, I just didn't feel it was necessary.That said, you and David are a far, far more attractive couple than you w/Elias. As a Bostonian I am not usually so generous in complementing Habs fans (that's an ice hockey joke to a Canadian), but u and David really look stunning together!!
