      I remember running through a valley to funnel a swarm. Turn around to toss some nades, turn back.. Suddenly a large group of enemies spawn where nothing was there.
      I just quit after that.

    What I’ll remember about this game in the future: Every update made the game worse and my friends fell off one by one. So I paid for a temporarily good game.

      first month was game of the year material, the patch that killed railgun (95% was rolled back but AHdoubled-down on the reduced anti-durable) was also the patch that first notably and detrimentally changed the spawn system (spawns trippled overnight and solo was getting 4-man spawn rates, volumes and drop/breach-sizes).
      from then on the games gone decently paced from run n gun n loot to mostly-gunning, to mostly-running with looting being almost impossible in the latter 2 more recent sandbox-states due to ANY downtime basically putting you at rick of a tele-snipe ambush by enemies that instantly aggro and your first warning of their existence is a rocket/hunter/MG/walker to the back of the head. gams a total SLOG now in solo and a zero-brain face-roll in most 4-stacks.

      Article # A. The bugs that made the game good. Every bug they fix deteriorates the quality of the game. Meaning their formula wasn't what made the game good, only dumb luck.
      Guys sniffing his own farts too hard.
      They need to learn from Warframe and how "bullet jump" was adapted from a bug or velocity exploit known as "Zoren Coptering". War Thunder and Warframe are the OG kings of the live service and they survive on understanding and interpreting community direction, not sterile studio direction. That ego check is essential to not bleeding the brand. Nerfs are brand damage.

      Did you watch the video? The devs are a little off-beat, but I agree with OhDough that the fundamental philosophy is good, and the game will be in a great spot with more powerful weaponry, and that they did a disservice with nerfing the power bugs.

    This game has wound up being like a bad relationship. In the beginning everything is amazing and you look forward to the time you get to spend playing it. Then slowly patch after patch, nerf after nerf, you start to realize that is more frustrating than fun. However, you still remember how amazing it was and hold out hope that it could still be that way again. But the devs keep grinding you down, breaking what works and what still made you smile. They keep telling you that they were sorry, and it will get better, that wasn't intentional, that they want to listen to you and make changes for the better, but those changes never manifest. It's now at the point where you realize that they are never going to change, it's never going to be the way it was, and you need to get out.

      I think the only delusional ones here are you for expecting this game to be something it never was. You two should go do more research on what they wanted this game to be. Cause if you think it's just simply a horde shooter than you bought something without doing research and well that's on you for being ignorant.
      The game is strongly based on a DND type scenario and in this case it's a intergalactic war. If you have no interest or care in that. You should never have bought this game. Period.

    He views games as a social experience where you and you’re friends have a good time and bond? Then why have most of my friends stopped playing the game and the few who planned on getting it are now not wanting to get it?

      It is just a very different game, You just can't compare War Thunder with DCS, ARMR/Squad even to Tarkov. Let say a dev wanted a Dark Soul with Anime Girl, it is how it is if you got lured in by the Anime girl and expected the usual hack and slash game, which also played like one because of bug/exploit/bad balancing.
      HD2 is fairly well balance for those who wanted the trained 5 minutes newb on to the war experience, what AH need to do is to rethink their design and have something for the unexpected horde shooter customers.

      @@orangejuice9396 Nah, It depends on what fun you want. I have friends who love it and who hate it. Your group may have a particular preference that just finds the HD2 kind of game not fun, thus not dun with friends ;or Dark Soul games fun thus fun with friends.
      If it is so unfair, you won't get people find HD2 fairly easy to play. It is pretty fair, but gameplay is lame for many.

      @@mouseii88 helldivers 2 is only a fun game with friends if you do like milsim tactics and stuff, the people who enjoy helldivers 2 in groups of 4 are people who could probably enjoy anything tbh. people CAN find helldivers 2 fun, just like how people can find dark souls unfun.
      an example i kinda wanna bring up is space hulk deathwing, a 40k game where you basically need 3 other people that are good at video games and willing to learn the intricacies to actually play the game at even a basic level.

      @@orangejuice9396 well, that's one reason I generally say it is more similar to Squad/ARMA than Battlefield. It is intended for a very niche audience, thus you see complaints about constant running, which is exactly those Milsim games do, run for 5 min and die in 1 sec to Tanks 300m away. The fact that people can Rambo Helldive difficulty say a lot about the weapon is balanced against difficulty.
      Try EDF6, if that feels a lot more fun and fair than HD2, your group is a bit out of HD2 "original intention". It is not about nerf or buff, but the fundamental game design of the game, where they need the weapon to do more to be fun for the larger casual audience.
      Imo, they don't even need to make the Marksman weapon kill faster, they just need to make them take down Devastators rocket pod and mini gun in 2 shot, and the weapon is instantly 50% more fun.

    One correction. Stormtroopers are not meant to be grunts. They’re meant to be deadly, as well as accurate. What Obi-Wan tells Luke while examining the Jawa sand crawler is true. Only Stormtroopers can aim that straight. The reason they’re on screen depiction is not consistent with this is because Lucas was basing Star Wars on old serial films, and those movies had a lot of shooting that was supposed to be accurate and serious, but visually was going in all sorts of random directions.

      Actually, the Stormtroopers ARE very accurate, lol. In every on-screen battle between them and the Rebel grunts, they vastly out perform them. The only times their aim has been atrocious has been: The trap in episode 4 where they wanted them to escape, Bespin when they're running, and the Ewoks (which is pretty fair. They're small, fast, and blend into the dense foliage. Pretty hard to hit that tbh). Tantive 4 was a sweep for the stormtroopers, Hoth was a sweep for the empire aside from the ATs, before the shield was taken down and the ewoks surprise attacked it was almost another sweep for the Empire.

      I actually remember reading a few well worded fan theories about Stormtroopers being, at least in some circumstances, explicitly ordered to MISS their shot in order to allow the heroes to escape because [reasons], I'm not expert enough about SW to recontruct it completely here but I'm sure if you google around you'll find a few ppl arguing for it.

      Can also just explain away them missing against the jedi because of the force and stuff. Obi-wan was the jedi master of defensive techniques, and it's shown in various settings that jedi have ways of massively making people less accurate or dodging shots from premonition.

      @@divvu1014 Don't forget that Vader's master, Palpatine, is a master of deception and manipulation who successfully staged an entire civil war against a Republic that he was a major leader in, as part of a scheme to amass the very army he required to successfully pull off a coup.
      It's a ruse of war -- let a retreating foe escape, and then follow them to sus out the location of other enemies. Make the shots just accurate enough to convince them that they are lucky to be alive, and they'll never realize the deception. Vader could easily have had a tracking device installed on the Millennium Falcon while it was aboard the Death Star, which would be how he was able to learn that the Alliance had their headquarters on Yavin 4 -- That's where Han Solo and the others went after escaping, with the Death Star in pursuit.

      But you are making it sound like they nerfed the former to boost the latter (as many games do with their "balancing"). But the latter is also kinda shiz :D. And the former got nerfed for the same reason every weapon did. It's just too reliable (in their own words - aka. getting too many kills)

    "We want you to be a grunt" we play in teams of 4 alone against swarms. This is NOT a design that says grunt. This design says "elite squad behind enemy lines."
    I described HD2 as a game where four glass cannons drop down into the middle of a swarm of enemies and need to get out without shattering. Arrowhead apparently wanted four glass squirt guns dropping into a searm of enemies.

      If they really want us to feel like grunts armed with wet noodles drop us in whole platoons of 30-40 guys. Of couse that'd never work practically because of how small the maps are and the p2p hosting would probably shit itself, but it would be an interesting take at least.

      @@hanley9073 I think it could also work if the weapon they gave us were more powerful but also more dangerous for ourselves, like the unsafe railgun but more extreme, or the pre-nerf eruptor after the shrapnel bounced back to us. So it would make sense they would only send 4 of us (we can do a lot of damage) and also make sense why we are considered expendable (no sane, actually trained person would try to use those badly designed weapons). This would also add more varied funny deaths and a degree of skill expression to keep people playing to get to master them.

      A grunt commanding a whole star destroyer and having all its arsenal at his complete disposal. Artillery, air support, logistics, all at that grunt's command WHILE he does all the fighting too. One hell of a grunt indeed!

      Game developer, with less concurrent players than L4D2 after a few months, has a messianic complex.
      Let's hope some better Devs take inspiration from HD2 and make a better game.

    There’s very little hope left as most of the things that made the game so much fun for players turned out to be unintended bugs. Which is why the game becomes worse and worse as they fix all the “issues” from the devs point of view.

    The problem is that they’re too resistant to changing their philosophy. Sadly, we’re at the “point of no return” for many players, and if the developers don’t change their philosophical approach in the next 60 days (the timeline they set out), then this game will continue to bleed players.
    I guarantee you, if HD1 was a 3rd person shooter, the game would be miles ahead of the current game

      It's unbelievable that the SEAF has nigh unlimited funds and fuel (thanks to the bugs) to straight up just have every "grunt" able to call in cannon barrages from their fucking Destroyer.

      The fact that Helldivers are expendable but at the same time more than 5 losses per destroyer are considered unacceptable makes me feel like the Democracy Officers on our Super Destroyers are just really really lazy. Except when we are in range of enemy artillery of course.

      Exactly. If they wanted a grunt fantasy they made the exact wrong gameplay basics. If they wanted grunt fantasy we should have way more than 4 people in a game, or at least the map should be spammed with friendly units, we should have *WAY* more lives than we do, respawning should be automatic and only a few seconds, and stratagems should not be as powerful or common as they are. Maybe as kill streaks even.
      They made a game that's completely antithetical to what they wanted. Call of Duty and Battlefield are grunt fantasy, not this. This was designed to be like Warframe, Deep Rock Galactic, Space Marine.

      Honestly the safest way for AH to drown all the casual player complains right now is to implement a damage multiplyer. Lower difficulties will have roughly the same enemy types and spawns as the higher difficulties do, but the player damage and the damage they receive will be increased and decreased accordingly. This way you can have people playing a diff 4 game killing BTs and Impalers with ease and have their power fantasies, instead of sweating heavily and dying like a souls game character.

    The developers gave their creations in game( automatons/bugs ) “PLOT ARMOR”. They are the good guys in their eyes. The players are the evil bosses henchmen.     Pilestedt yapping as usual. Even back when he was still CEO, the guy was the epitome of all talk - no action. I vividly remember how he wrote half a thesis on Twitter about how weak most of the primaries are, only for his team to then release another batch of nigh-useless assault rifles that are still as useless today.
    Him taking over the dev team was also supposed to be an epiphany (or so many angry fans told me when I voiced concern). Yet all it brought us was one mid update, and an update that introduced a fire-themed warbond alongside massive nerfs for all fire-based weapons. 4d chess right here.

The crew are incompetent and, despite the passengers telling them how to weld it shut, managed to blow the boiler submerging more of the ship into the icy water. The captain then decided to put his first mate in charge, go down to the engine room and caused the engine room to explode for no reason whatsoever. The passengers are mostly abandoning ship but some are staying, telling them how to fix it, but the crew keeps blowing up everything they touch. In a final act of desperation, now they're trying to convince the passengers that they bought tickets to ride a submarine.

      If the game was realistic, Super Earth would not be sending 4 dudes with 20 backups against an enemy that has unlimited reinforcements. They'd just bombard the planet from orbit and send in a platoon to do cleanup and extract any high value assets.
      If the game was realistic, destroying a rocket tank should make it explode like a nuke as all the unused munitions go off all at once. Also, emptying a flamethrower directly into a tank's heat sink should rapidly raise the temperature of the engines until it explodes.
      They need to just can the 'realism' talk. All they're doing is repeatedly putting their foot in their mouths when they try to bring it up.

Then, as you run lower level missions and learn how the games mechanics work, you learn to slowly be a veteran in the field, mentally soldier that survived that first hundred days and now knows his way around surving and fighting in combat.
      If you can't do anything, I k kw this gets tossed around a lot, but that's a skill issue. A decent team mKes 7s and 8s feel like 3s and 4s. I frequently glance at the difficulties when it's happening just to confirm I didn't forget to tier up after helping some beginner SOS calls.

    Bro's literally making a game for NO-ONE. Im a nerd, I have 200 games in my library, 40 of them are rogue-likes and I can literally find 10 games that are just better than Helldivers 2, even Helldivers is better than Helldivers 2 now, the state of the game is hilarious and tragic.
    Helldivers 2 have no optimization, no fun mechanics, it's not "easy to learn, hard to master", it's impossible to master, one ragdoll and you're dead, the only thing you can do is cry about it. And your reinforcement or survivability skills literally don't matter, because if you have reinforcements - you're not losing, and Helldivers did it SO MUCH better. In Helldivers if everyone dies - it's joever, you skill of dodging enemies and how fast you can call reinforcement can be a difference between a lost run and a successful run. Your stratagems matter and how fast you can call them matters. Mechs may be a joke for some, but unlike in HD2 they're honestly good, you're sacrificing one stratagem slot to make a part of a run easier and they feels meaningful, they are meaningful.
    Helldivers 2 is just a disappointment for me, disappointment for a guy that likes good design in games, that values gameplay over everything else, for a neard that adores good games, games that know their community with devs that care about their game and community, with gameplay that feels good.
    See ya in Deep Rock Galactic, waiting until HD2 is fixed

    Arrowhead basically told us in the beginning "come be a superhero, kill bugs and bots, the enemies of Super Earth with overpowered weapons" which is just super earth propaganda to get people to enlist as a helldiver. In reality, what arrowhead wants is cannon fodder constantly getting swarmed, armed with peashooters and paper thin armor. Arrowhead is Super Earth, we're the unlucky sods that bought into the propaganda.

      This is unironically true. There were a fair amount of video essays going off about the satiric "under"tone of the game and the dystopia of Super Earth. I don't know what's more concerning, that people are willingly blinding ourselves to that now in order to voice protest, or that they were blind to this all along.
      That said, you can deliver that dystopia without making the game horribly frustating.

    All weapons should be able to damage any target, at different rates. He likes warhammer ; you can damage any unit by rolling a 6 to wound which makes all units feel like they can at the very least be useful

    Helldivers 2 was a success for the same reasons that Halo 2 was a success. It was a fun casual game that pretty much anyone could play, but it took a fair bit of skill (but not overwhelming) to master. Once they started trying to force certain metas, the game was done. Taking fun away in a non-pvp game makes people uninvest themselves.

    I don’t think them making weapons and stratagems stronger will take away from their original vision of players not having plot armor. Hell, if anything, the enemies have plot armor due to how much damage they take before they die (especially chargers)

      Not even like dark souls. Dark Souls isn't very difficult, and it's extremely fair. One, it doesn't take control away from the player at all, and two, YOU CAN DODGE. If you're getting spammed by insane shit in Helldivers not only can't you dodge, but if you get hit once you tend to get ragdolled for 30-40 seconds and die. Also, the power scaling for the player in Dark Souls is insane, and there are multiple ways to utterly dominate the game with giga-damage weapons and magic or just tanking everything.

      Calling whatever tf they're doing a Dark Souls like difficulty is an insult to those games (no shade at you just being dramatic).
      Dark souls is difficult like cutting a log with an Axe is difficult, it may take some time and you'll have to put effort in, but it's reasonable.
      HD2 is difficult in the way cutting a log with a butter knife is difficult. Sure, you'll cut that log eventually, it'll just take half a year, all your strength, oh and btw if we feel you're going too fast we'll replace your knife with an even duller bread knife.... for "realism".

    If Helldivers 2 was marketed as a grunt fantasy in which you die repetitively I would have never invested a cent into it.
    All the marketing for this game sold it as a power trip in which you can be an action hero. You could be Johnny Rico on the back of the bug chewing through it with your mg.
    That's not what the game is now by any means. It is utterly miserable to the point I and all my friends have stopped playing.
    If Arrowhead wants to turn this game into the CBT-simulator they seem to be balancing for, I want my money back.

      I bought my buddy a copy and i bought super citizen for myself and the game just went down a hole ever since.
      I think a week later they intentionally ruined spawning patrols for everyone and have never fixed it since. It's not a bug it's 100% intentional. They can't just keep pretending their spawning code is too difficult to understand.

      A friend of mine and I suspect they are deliberately nuking the game to save on server costs. Certainly, hosting 10k players is a lot cheaper than hosting 450k. Dunno if their math for warbond sales didn't add up, so they'll keep yeeting the player base until it's manageable.

    Support weapons such as recoilless rifle should one shot elites.
    1) its a stratagem
    2) its a weapon specifically for elite units
    3) you can’t use a backpack stratagem(primarily supply backpack).
    4) the recoilless is literally shown to one shot a bile titan in the intro.
    There are so many limitations for very little pay off if it can’t one shot them.
    There’s also human error to consider, players aren’t hitting 100% of their shots all the time.

    The problem with "Realism" in this game is that it only applies to their philosophy when it's fucking over the player. If however the subject is mile long tentacles coming out of an impaler with an effective range that you can never escape even when running from them for over 5 minutes it can be as video gamey as it wants. That's just one recent example but the entire game is built around these things that just overall feel very antagonistic, to the point that any time "realism" is used as an explanation what it really sounds like is an excuse for bullshit... and everyone knows it. Video gamey mechanics can be fine and work well but you can't only use them to arbitrarily try and punish the player, because it just starts to feel cheap and players start to feel robbed, those feelings are frustrating and frustrated players are much less likely to leave the game feeling like they had fun, and the biggest problem it seems to me is that the developers seem absolutely determined to try and force frustrating situations onto you.
    This is why most of our weapons have seemingly been nerfed, because most of the "Balance" in this game is actually about keeping you from killing chargers effectively, that's 100% the reason the Flamethrower was changed when it was and you'll never convince me otherwise. The reason no one plays the bots is because most players don't enjoy the frustration of being stun locked in a ragdoll simulator. There are higher level players who have figured out ways to midigate that but most of the player base decided to just avoid it instead. The problem is that with each subsequent patch the developers continue to strip the players of options in order to arbitrarily make the game harder, they aren't adding meaningful challenges, they're just forcing you to play the one way that they deem as "fun" which is why I find it so damn laughable when they say they're very against the idea of a "meta" because all they've ever done is force one on us.

    I can tell you why I think Helldivers 2 was such a hit… because you got to call in tremendous, huge explosions while battling Starship Troopers Bugs and Terminator Bots and it looked awesome. The price was right and at launch, we had weapons that at times, felt powerful. People would laugh at team kills because the conflict was wild and the explosions supersized, so unintended causalities had to be forgiven, and made for great content.

    I think one of the problems with the "Grunt Fantasy" is that in movies like Star wars the storm Troopers are up against the main protagonists. In Helldiver's we are fighting other grunts.
    Also we are using weapons that are, for the most part, basically weapons that were designed to eliminate other humans. They love the idea of realism yet we are fighting giants big and robots.

    Right after helldivers 2 came out, I had to leave for multiple months and had no means to play games except on the steam deck, which could barely play Helldivers 2 at all. I told myself, "its okay, itll still be here when you get back."
    LMAO, yeah right. The game I purchased and got to play a few times at launch, LITERALLY was not there when I got back. It had been replaced with one with a tiny, gutted community, and a feeling that no matter what loadout I tried, I just couldn't figure out what the game expected me to do to succeed. I feel robbed.

      I mean, did you jump straight back into helldive, instead of walking the tiers to find your feet? It's not a difficult game once you understand how things work together. And the best way to get that is either doing the hardest stuff knowing you're doing it as a crash course, or just running lower level stuff to get up to speed worth the game. There's still always active players, there's new gear, new enemies. There's stuff to learn.
      If you exist in 2024 and didn't expect a live service game to grow and change while you were out, that'd very much a you problem. Not the devs. You can say the same about basically any game out there. Meta changes in cod, big patches for no man's sky, seasonal content shakes up entire other games (fortnite and path of exile both come to mind as prime examples of this)
      If you wanted to buy a game that wasn't going to evolve, may I point you towards.... I dono... The games made before the live service concept was born.

      No one expected the game to remain stagnant. Like... at all. The game did, however, change. And it did not change for the better. There is not a single "successful" game out there that had a drop off like HD2 did. It was rushed out the door, did the bare minimum, and the devs clearly have a "dungeon master vs player" mindset rather than "Lets make a videogame" mindset. The developers are trying to "win" against their customers.

      Meanwhile, those of us that didn't come with expectations are siting back saying "ah, man, this forest could use more things to do, and there's a lot of bugs, but otherwise we appreciate the forest for being different than all the other forests we see out there"
      I don't think HD2 is ass. I don't have the problems you all seem to have playing it, because I've never relied on a community meta. I use the tactics I picked up along the way and the weapons that work ways that feel good to me. For example, I regularly run the purifier, because I love some of the things it let's me do while paired with other tools. I have run the adjudicator since it was "bad". On semi. The regular second gun you get in the game punisher was my go to before that. I use all of these on both fronts on missions anywhere from 7-10. And I do just fine and have a good time.
      I never needed something to make something in the game easy. I figured out what it takes to not have a difficult time with that content, and then as things change I see how what I'm good at applies to that content and drive on. Because it's a live service with the intent to evolve over time. Because that's what games do now adays.

    currently:
    1.)Many players don't understand how important samples are. They do not understand they should be farming samples during missions
    2.)Clearing out enemies in an area means nothing as a patrol will spawn out of thin air right next to you. And then call in a bunch of back up.
    3.)Many weapons feel mediocre and useless so i find myself relying on only a handful of the same things over and over to get the higher difficulty missions completed.
    4.) Big enemies make no noise so they just sneak up on you and 1 shot you like bile Titans
    5.) Whenever i tag a 2 person door, my character should say "hey got a 2 person door here" have it automatically type in chat "2 person door here" and give all other players an emoji of a 2 person door. That is the only thing in this game you cannot solo...

      Rocket scout striders are literally noiseless. Their cannons are bugged and do not emit sound. You only know they are there when you roll snake eyes and whoosh, their rocket comes off cooldown. Reinforcements getting low.

    I literally have been saying the old CEO is full of shit and his actions are opposite of his words.
    Instead of hiring new staff, he spent millions on hiring his friend as CEO who has done nothing but gaslight the community.
    He protects Alexus and the balance team while saying he "understands the time to kill is too high and that's taking the fun from the game"
    Then he proceeds to nerf the flamethrower and fire breaker for short term money gains through the new warbond.
    I've been warning people for months and instead of listening or looking at the facts, these "fans" attacked me, doxxed me, and have me banned on the steam forums.

    Funny thing is I agree with him, which is why he is wrong. The Mithril stopping the pointy end would do little to disperse the incredible force that would shatter ribs and crush organs of a tiny hobbit.
    On the flip side, no one would send 4 elite troops down against enemies which they had no weaponry to dispatch. If we know you are fighting multiple behemoth chargers, we will give you weapons designed to take them out.
    An enormous bomb that doesn't hurt things a few meters away? that's not super realistic.
    A giant expensive space laser with only 3 uses that does 0 damage to titans/tanks wouldn't be invented.
    An ordinance barrage designed to not hit specific targets would never exist.
    a super high cost mech that has no ammo, or armor? how is that realistic? Why would that be created?
    Mines that trigger themselves so they can't explode enemies
    Or tank mines that are designed to trigger off small target
    A primary weapon designed to not have enough ammo or DPS to deal with the enemies you are facing.
    None of these things make sense in the fantasy of a tiny group facing vastly superior numbers and size.

    As a bots-only solo player, it has reached a point where the only way to avoid the things that annoy me in this game is by not playing. Joel is still on holidays for sure because we have been getting shafted in terms of planet variety for weeks.
    The ragdolling is a deliberate 'fuck every single one you' from the developers. They added impalers, rocket scout striders, and barrager tanks all at once. This game has become RNG versus stims, run speed, and stun grenades, because the only way to survive the chaos is by pre-stimming for your eventual knockdown where active self-defense is impossible. There is no such thing as standing your ground, because it will be blown the fuck out from underneath you by a barrager, or a rocket scout strider will walk up to you nigh invincible because his three bros just sucked your autocannon dry. I liked playing bots because unlike bugs it was not running simulator, constant kiting. You got to shoot your weapon and precision was rewarded.
    I die so often from impact or getting blasted into the open because shockwaves completely ignore physics and transmit through cover. The core gameplay has become so annoying and luck-based that the fun of shooting the weapons and overcoming legitimate challenges is nearly imperceptible.
    Also there are three times as many hulks as before EoF, and factory striders are at almost every objective and heavy outpost. Before it was 50-50 whether there was a single static factory strider per map, usually at the extraction point. Just saying, because nobody else seems to be. We used to be sensitive to this kind of thing (like when the patrols changed), but this is so much more than that ever was it is like nobody has even bothered to mention it.
    I would like this last change, but the massive threat of the ragdoll enemies has overpowered the core mechanic of beating bots, which is tactical positioning (rapid targeted patrols did this too, but to a lesser extent). There is no more cover, and there is certainly no more courage, because running is the new meta.

      ​@@Mr_Bo6r A lot of players have played solo since release. There have always been ways to win in spite of the odds, and the current META (run and stim) was always one of them. That tactic is now head and shoulders above the rest, because of how often the player is put in a defenseless state while trying to fight back, and it is not fun gameplay. It is boring when it works, and an extremely tilting waste of time when it fails. AH was what went wrong.

    As a game developer and avid modder, I can understand his perspective even if I think his persistence is misplaced.
    As a dev, it can empathize with how frustrating it can be when a game you design ends up being played in a manner you did not intend: You've spent hours dedicated to a project with a clear vision in mind, but somehow, due circumstances outside of your control, the audience has completely sideline your vision.
    There comes a point in the development and release cycle where you have to either swallow your pride and cater to the audience your game attracted, or risk destroying the community you gathered on a vain attempt to force people to play "as intended."
    Arrowhead seems to be doing is retroactively changing their game to better align with what they initially envisioned the game to be. But at the cost of the community it built.
    It's like ordering a pepperoni pizza, but with each slice you eat, the cook comes out and puts a new topping on your pizza. With each slice, your pizza becomes less and less of what you desired, to the point that after the third slice, it's unrecognizable and you refuse to eat anymore.
    The audience you gathered wanted what you delivered; the pepperoni pizza. Now, you are adding a ton of new toppings that the community didn't want or ask for, and it's spoiling the experience for a majority of players.
    Sure, you're gonna have some folks who will stick around to finish the pizza, but that number is FAR smaller than the people who were willing to eat just pepperoni.

    In the movies they didn't have the budget for Power Armour 😂 and that's why the movie is basic padding and nothing else. 😂

      ​​​@@jdbb3gotskills Stealthy? Even for that you get punished by patrol spawns that act as if they have a wolf's sense of smell and they're downwind from you. If you managed to dodge one, the game just spawns another and makes the original turn around to have another go at you. The only effective playstyle is to run from every fight. Soon enough they'll implement some mechanic to stop you from disengaging. Like a gunship squad or 3 titans spawning in front of you if the game determines you are moving away from enemies trying to engage with you at a too rapid rate, already aggroed.

    Like I said, the primary reason they even put in a anti-cheat into HD2 was never to catch hackers. It was specifically to stop modders unbork what the dev team did.
    Magika 1&2 survived as long as it did even with all the borking AH laid on the game was due in part to the mod groups.

    People who argue that this is not a power fantasy and that all divers are expendable grunts don't take into account that a gun is (realistically) just as deadly in the hands of a hero as it is when wielded by the lowliest grunt.
    This made the game at launch so good, because shooting felt fair. We died fast, but we also killed fast, and that felt both fair *and* realistic.
    Now... when it feels like the enemies have machine guns and we have nerfguns, that "grunt" fantasy is gone, and the knee jerk reaction is to turn from the "grunt" fantasy to the "underdog" one.
    ...Except the ones in our sights aren't bugs or bots, but *our* perceived "oppressors", the devs.

    One thing to mention is he brings up Starship Troopers and the grunt fantasy. In the first film a man rides a giant armoured bug and kills it with a standard assault rifle, and later on fires a mini nuke out of a rocket launcher and destroys an even bigger bug that's flinging spores into space. Even in the grunt fantasy movie the characters had better weapons. Also I do feel bad bc these guys aren't bad people whatsoever and developers that are willing to do what they did with the warbonds not expiring, and having cheap armour and prioritising treating consumers right over profits is really commendable. They may be one of very few that are willing to stand up to the trend nowadays when it's much easier to give in to the greed because everyone else is doing it.
