    Steve, I bought a pair at Axpona and received a significant discount for doing so from the dealer downstairs. I agree they are terrific. They throw a huge, deep, and high stage. There is also great instrument separation. I actually was a vintage ADS speaker enthusiast but these were compelling to me.

      The one crux of Steve's reviews appears to be just what sounded best with his stuff. Now ... that ... is telling. The Source Point 8 sounded bigger with my stuff. But if you change and input source you know, everything changes. But what we needs is the best possible electrical match for each speaker and then comparing them side by side with not the same source, but the same CD or record played on ideal source equipment and then ... say well, that system was not as good as this system.

    The real determining factor for all of these is the size of room you will be using them in. Interesting that Steve never really touches on this - for e.g., the Metas in a small room would be the better choice over either of the Point Source speakers. The Point Source 10 would be the better choice over the Source Point 8 in a large room. Also, the KEF R3 Meta would be the logical competitor to the Source Point 8, so why no comparison? The question would be whether the 10 is capable of sounding as good as the 8? That' questionable, it has 40 watts more handling than the 8 and despite higher sensitivity its inertia point is higher. Given these are made in China of not terribly exotic materials, I think there is an “Andrew Jones tax” of about $1k on each pair, a point you bring out in your compare to the lintons. I’m personally suspicious of Mofi who made its rep in another area, proceeded to squander that rep, and then moved into outsourced manufacturing with hired gun “name” designers. The whole idea seems like more a of a business proposition than a passion for audio.

When I assess a speaker, I want its bass response to be sufficient and deeply pleasing. It's doable! Currently I love the full-bodied sound from my Tannoy Revolution XT-8F towers. Hi, Steve.
    A question. What is the difference between Tannoy, Kef Uni Q and MoFi?
    All have a treble in the middle of the bass/mid register. There are probably a few more that have the same construction. Shouldn't they all sound about the same?

    • @HAL9007
      @HAL9007 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I will pose one answer on behalf of a small percentage of the population. I have KEF LS50 and Tannoy Cheviots. I never liked the sound of any 3-way tower speaker I ever heard (except my old Allison Three's) -- I owned 4 and listened to dozens. They sound disjointed, abrasive. My ear doc said I am probably one of the few people who are ultra-sensitive to timing and phase errors inherent in 3-way towers. As soon as I listened to point source (or dual concentric), my problem was immediately solved. It made a HUGE difference to my ears. Point source speakers eliminate certain frequency interference problems near the crossover point, because regular speakers have different drivers playing the same frequencies but are different distances from your ears.. There are more and more concentric speakers being developed. Zu in Utah. Spatial Audio. Cabasse, etc, etc. For floor standers, Tannoy are the best followed by Zu. KEF is good for stand speakers.

    • @SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac
      @SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Differences in crossover and cabinet design will produce different sound. And the drivers may be similar in type doesn't mean they sound the same. After all, not all 6 inch cone woofers sound alike!

I have really good sources and electronics for it -- Sonore and PS Audio.This setup sounds as good as any TT system I've heard.
