Go back and check the tapes, this was the exact discussion had during Pep's 1st year at City. These pundits said he was stubborn and that his way of play would never work in the Premier League. He scrapped 4th spot that season and has been dominating ever since.

Your right, but all the media are the same. They build the players and the managers up when they are winning and doing well.
But they can't wait to knock them down when they aren't. That's why I admire Steve Nichols comments.

14:46 I'm surprised Stevie didn't mention that Klopp went through a similar thing with Liverpool, when all their midfield became older and they lost their legs and it was really hard for Klopp to find a different way to play to suit their players. Because they only know one way and their one way works so well if they have the players to do it. But if they don't, then we are starting to find out that Pep is no different to Klopp really. But the difference with Pep is, he has always had the players or the funds to get the players he wanted, while Klopp hasn't always had money available to him to spend.

So you guys wanted them to win 5 titles in a row? C’mon man, there was definitely gonna be a time they’ll suffer. It’s an opportunity for Liverpool and Arsenal to take advantage of their downfall before they rebuild. It’s not a big deal like you guys are saying. Must City win the league this season again with the level of worn out thrashy legs they have in their squad?

    • @ComradeOgilvy1984
      @ComradeOgilvy1984 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Man City has been very very good, but they have not been imperious in the last two seasons like they were in earlier seasons. Two seasons ago, Liverpool fell into the doldrums because they were aging and in need of a rebuild, and Arsenal hit an injury crisis. Last season Liverpool and Arsenal both faded because of injury crises. This season Man City looks like they need a rebuild (KdB, Silva, Gundogan are too long in the tooth to rely on) and that has exacerbated an injury crisis.
It happens to the best teams, and often the manager can do about it. The main question is how long it takes for Guardiola to make good progress on a rebuild.
That said, the idea that Pep is stubborn and makes some problems worse for himself has more than a kernel of truth. Guardiola had a 100M fee player sitting on the bench at start against Liverpool. And in spite of the need to refresh his midfield, Kalvin Phillips went out on loan. Pep turns up his nose at players that the other 19 managers would be more than eager to play, if they were ever suffering an injury crisis. It must be nice to be backed by such a big checkbook that being so finicky is rarely a problem.

I think it's a little of all that's been mentioned. But the overarching unbrella is that Pep has controlled these players to the ninth degree, molding them to his way of playing, his tactics. It worked until it didn't, and that's what he is dealing with now. He has to adjust his tactics, and he has been slow to do so because he had been hoping this was a blip (as in previous years). It's not a blip.

City are just paying price for poor transfers over the last two years. They have let very good players leave who gave them depth and brought in much lower quality players to replace them. Now some of their stars are injured or declining they are having to rely on these bad signings and they are just not good enough. They need a more athletic midfield, that is what is causing them all their problems. If I was Man City I would get Pogba, Zumamendi and Warburton in the January transfer window to bring back athleticism to City midfield.

Every side goes through a difficult patch at some time during a season.
Often it is brought about by injuries particularly to key players.
Arsenal have had theirs (injury related) and look to be back to their best.
City are in the midst of theirs (injury related) and will come through it.
Liverpool are going strong and surprise surprise have so far managed to avoid injuries to key players.
I have no doubt Liverpool will also go through a difficult patch when injuries strike.
The problem for City is they cannot afford to let the gap to Liverpool get any wider or the deficit will be too much to overcome. It may already be too much.

In my opinion it’s all about staying humble (no pun intended) and recognising you haven’t quite got the players to play your way.
Don’t be too proud to have two banks of four, or three at the back and play counter football. Don’t be too proud to concede possession and play on the counter. They certainly have the players to hurt any team.
Do ANYTHING to get results at the moment. Get some results and get some confidence back. There’s nothing wrong with winning and not being dominant. You can still win with the quality you have whilst also being solid as a defensive unit.
It almost seems like Pep is too proud to just accept that your team can’t quite carry out what you want and you need to change.
And it’s not just Rodri - City were scraping results before he got injured. They had some close calls and lucky escapes. They could, and probably should have, dropped way more points even when Rodri was available. The squad needs a rebuild.
