    Great tip about putting the cardboard against the radiator I have done that for several years when working on any vehicle that requires removing the fan and or the water pump or whatever is on the front of the engine. 👍

    FYI I had to Google this but there are 50 teeth between the two top timing marks on the belt if you're using an after market belt.

    Hey drew I have a question about the thermostat bleeder valve I seen manuals say to put them in with the bleeder valve in the 6pm position which is better the up on down position I am about to do a water pump and timing set with the new thermostat as well

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are correct. The manual says to install it in the 6 position. This is the only vehicle I have seen that, so I installed it at the 12 position still. I have heard that either way will not cause an issue.

    so is it ok if you should turn one of the cams off mark to turn it all way around to the timing mark again? I did this and now am worried it will mess it up. Love your video sir.

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the 3.4l, you can turn the cam completely around. This engine is not an interference engine.

    The thermostat jiggle valve is supposed to by at the 6 o’clock position. Isn’t that true for all 5vz engines?

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  ปีที่แล้ว

      You want it between 11 and 1. Place it at the top so if there are any air bubbles they can get by the thermostat.

    • @UGotAPerdyMouf
      @UGotAPerdyMouf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shoptimewithdrew the factory manual for my 2001 says 6 o’clock though. These engines apparently run hotter when at the 12 o’clock position

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right. That is what it says. I have never looked it up. Everyone I have taken off was at the top, and all that I have installed have been at the top.

      Enjoyed your video, I just replaced the water pump and thermostat on my 1990, unfortunately to no avail still overheating, head gasket on the 3.0. I acquired a 1996 with a recent timing belt lots of new parts shocks brakes etc but with cracks in the frame. I will be doing the conversion to the 3.4, I love all these videos as you show tricks of the trade for installs etc, I feel confident I can get it done. Going to save my second gen is in great shape otherwise.

    • @shoptimewithdrew

    • @shoptimewithdrew

      As long as it all lines up with your timing marks, you are good. Rotate it around once and verify your timing.

  • @bunbunfun3123

    Hey drew, when the cams gears are lined up with the markings and harmonic balancer is at zero , but the crank gear dotted mark is not line up with the nipple, it’s off by a tooth, how do you get it to all lined up?

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will need to remove the belt and rotate the crank slightly. If you get a factory belt, it will have timing marks on it. If the marks line up, it will be in time even if the cam and crank are off the engine marks slightly. Hope this makes sense.

    • @bunbunfun3123

    • @shoptimewithdrew

      A good end wrench. I have had to pull the bracket off with the fan and then get the nut off. That is not fun.

    When you were reassembling and doing the 1 rotation, why did the right cam mark wind up on the left cam mark?

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are talking about the marks on the belt, they will only line up on the initial setup. You would have to rotate it several times to get those to line back up. After the initial setup, you go off the marks on the engine, not the belt.

    • @jimbeauxwalker6710
      @jimbeauxwalker6710 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shoptimewithdrew Thanks Drew. I turned everything one full rotation after initial setup and every mark was one tooth off. But to begin with, every mark was lined up.

    • @shoptimewithdrew

      I wonder if it slipped a little. Maybe your tensioner is going out.

    • @jimbeauxwalker6710

      @@shoptimewithdrew No Sir, nothing slipped. I went an entire rotation clockwise and brought all of the cam and crank marks back to TDC and it had moved one tooth for each one. It was many turns on the crank to get the marks back to the top. That is why I asked you the first question about the belt marks the other day.
