True. If you're really worried about sometimes needing to go far then you can pick up a cheap used car like a Civic after getting an EV for going places your EV can't.
I have long been a fan of FIAT cars since high school, and am happy to see the FIAT brand back in America, and proud, moreover to be an Italian car enthusiast because of FIAT. I think that this is a really good take on an EV. However, my only criticism is the app; it's not available for WP8. I can't say too much about it's driving since I don't live in California.

Such is the reality of current battery tech: a massive battery can equivalent to less than a single gallon! Except for the latest EVs which have an adequate range basically through sheer brute force (i.e., sticking as many batteries in the car as they possibly can), batteries are still the primary issue holding EVs back in my view. Hopefully as they continue to pick up market share manufacturers will invest in battery advances.
this guy is very wrong you will never be worried about your range if your getting an ev you have to plan out everything before hand, and you should certainly be able to afford more than 1 car because that would be stupid if a 90 mile range ev was your only car, even going to the furthest places for me in a day that would probably be around a 50 mile trip, and thats rare, so an ev would perfect for most people
I feel like if anybody wants to make a sporty EV they should just add a tiny little engine, like sub 1ltr, just to recharge the batteries when needed, might sound like irony but in that configuration petrol can turn extremely efficient in an equivalent mpg rating

Hard to look to the future when these electrics cant compare to cars from this century. The electric motor is a great motor and has enormous promise, but in this rush to make a buck; seems like these cars are not ready for the prime time. Range should never be compared to a golf cart, even when the car is smaller than a cart like in this case.
Why don't EV's have a hood scoop with two alternators under the hood being spun by airflow and charging the batteries while you drive?.Not to mention a solar panel sunroof to keep up the charge and therefore creating a self charging Electric car.It's easy to do but there is no money in free driving I guess.

Solar panels would only generate a very small amount of electricity, better suited to powering the radio and accessories. Perpetual motion does not exist. The extra weight of the generator, and the drag of the wind resistance wood be greater than the energy captured by the generator. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. You cannot simply pull energy from the air. It's not how it works.

***** The i3 is pretty tiny. I think it would be good in the Fiat as well, but ultimately 100% electric is the way to go
+sadman hoque The i3 engine only gets 40mpg in gasoline mode. Not that efficient. (Prius and Civic Hybrids get 50 mpg.)
