    Thanks for the informative video. I live in Portland but grew up warm water spearfishing and am considering picking it again after seeing your videos. But I have one question--what is that yellow cylinder taped at the end of your gun?

    • @borce32
      @borce32  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dennis, thats a ballast that I use so my gun does not sink as fast when I release it. Also it points the gun upward when I drop it so when I have my gopro on the gun it records me when I drop the gun and deal with getting the fish off the hook.

    All very good things, Borce! After all, Washington ain't Kauai, and our water's just a little different, yes? I've dived and surfed all over the world, and hunting here, without tanks, is demanding. All very good points!

    • @borce32
      @borce32  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely Alex, very different and hard to fish here due to bad visibility but I guess that makes us more stealthier and we can get closer to the fish.

    Awesome vid! I'm thinking about getting into spearfishing in the summer, so this vid was very helpful! Have seals/sealions ever stolen your fishes while it was hanging on the stringer from your float?

    • @borce32
      @borce32  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, glad the video was able to help you. I have not had any issues with seals. They tend to stay away and are scared to come up too close. I know down in California thats a different story but here in Oregon I have not had any issues.

    Hi. Amazing video. Very helpful. Question ... Can I swim in off the shore and spearfish. And if the current pulls me in... Do I use my floater ?

    • @borce32
      @borce32  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Huzaifa, yes there are people that swim from shore but you have to keep an eye out for the waves. If the surf is large then it might be difficult to swim out. Also keep in mind on the incoming and outgoing tides. If there is a big tide shift you might get pulled out and it will be hard to swim back. I’d recommend using a kayak or a boat if you are going off shore. Safety first

    Hey Borce, where is this exactly? I'm in Brookings for the week and having trouble finding a good spot. The surf is not helping, but I'm also being cautious about getting into unknown water with current risks. Any advice would be great!

    Do you think a 100cm gun is to big for the oregon cost ? Thanks

    • @borce32
      @borce32  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I do, I think its overkill and you will only be able to use it in good visibility. My experience is on average visibility is around 8ft so a smaller gun is better. You could have two options tho and use whichever is needed.

    For gloves I’ve been told gardening gloves are crap but what about those cut proof gloves? I’m going to college in Hawaii next year and am trying to do this more on the budget side

    • @borce32
      @borce32  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jared I think for you it won’t matter since water in Hawaii is super warm. Get anything that feels comfortable. I’d go to Ace Hardware and try some stuff out if you dont want to spend $25 on gloves.

    • @jaredtyra6311
      @jaredtyra6311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Borce Atanasov you think that applies for diving socks and wetsuits too or are those for protection as well as warmth

    • @borce32
      @borce32  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jared If I were spearfishing in Hawaii, I wouldnt wear a wetsuit since its plenty warm but its still nice to be protected from reefs and camouflaged. I think its worth investing in good gear. It will last you for a long time.

    • @borce32
      @borce32  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mik3mill3r11 yes pretty close. I ended up getting a 43 I believe and thats my shoe size. Normally people say go larger because of the socks so it depends on the thickness of socks you are using. I wear 3mm socks and I like my fins fitting snug. What stiffness did you get?

    • @mik3mill3r11

      Borce Atanasov nice. I’m ordering the black camo full carbon with soft stiffness. I’m 5’10” and 160. My legs aren’t the strongest and I like to move slow so I think they’ll suit me well.
