    “Clapping” another great Video well done. This is exactly why I purchased the C308 over other variants. The cost meant if I had issues at all I could afford to fix them turns out I never had a single problem! The gun will eat anything you put in it quite literally though you can’t reuse the brass maybe something worth mentioning. Other then that I love it.

    • @ScullCandy56
      @ScullCandy56 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bras can be reloaded if you use the rubber brass deflector and even if you don't you can just fireform the dent out of the cases and mostly all the fluting marks are nothing more than cosmetic and disappear with a decent tumble.

    I have a pre-ban HK91 and I'm glad I bought it. Amazing quality and collector value. The rear sight drum has zero play on the real HK rifles. I was thinking of buying one of these lesser quality G3 clones to practice with and save my HK from the wear. We'll see.

    Just recently got a c308. Here in California, it's kinda the only actually available option. And I paid a ptr price for it. About $1000 after fees.
    But it seems to be solid. I've only taken it out to shoot once thus far. And it holds a good zero

      Nice. A year out from the original video, I maintain my opinion that the C308 is at least the equal of the PTR. Heck of a rifle.

      @@Triangle26 I do think one disadvantage of the c308 is the non-adjustable sights. Adleast no windage adjustment. Unless they are adjustable and I just don't know how yet. But as far as I can tell, the front and backs are both welded on with no adjustment keys.
      And that wouldn't be so bad, if the iron sights didn't have me hitting right of aim. But I grabbed one of my red dots from the closet and just threw that on the rail.

      @@fairplayer916 This fooled me too. The C308 front sight *is* windage adjustable, although it’s a little bit of a pain.

    I have an older century c308 it had shot great for thousands of rounds the only issue I've ever had was I tried to upgrade the lower with one from RTG parts, supposedly improved trigger and whatnot... However the front shelf is not in the right position and it had caused a failure to eject. I did not realize the issue for a very long time as I also changed the buffer at the same time. (I'm an idiot, but in my defense I was an infantry soldier not an armor) long story short now the rifle has mostly HK components and I am back to the original lower. The rifle has seen tens of thousands of rounds and the only time it has failed to function properly has been when it had this "modified" lower on it. Now that the original lower has seen so many trigger pulls it is actually far smoother than the "modified" one I wasted $225 on. I also have the keymod rail, with my grip pod on the forend, MFI scope base with a primary arms 1 to 6 first focal plane optic, oversized rubber butt pad and clip on cheek riser for GI stock and rubber port buffer. I inherited this rifle when I was 16 years old now I'm 33 still shoots about 2MOA. Any of you want to buy a fancy "slicked up" lower "clipped and pinned" so it looks super cool 😎 I'll make ya a deal

    I have a C308 and it has a PTR barrel, and trigger group, the bolt is HK the only things on it that are CETME are the cocking tube and charging handle. The pistol grip and butt stock are Century Arms. I find it to be more than accurate, and adequate.

  • @acester86
    @acester86 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The origi2al CETME cartridge. 7.92x41mm sounds so cool, an intermediate cartridge, capable out to 1k yards. Though I think manufacture would be more complex. It was an aluminum slug, that had a copper cuff. The copper would keep the soft aluminum from contacting the barrel and would help stabilize the bullet in flight. Forgotten weapons did a video on it. Very interesting round.

    I have a older PTR 91 GI ,it has no rail mount or paddle release ,I swapped out the furniture with Hk A3 wide hand guard with a bipod the German sliding stock and added a B&T scope rail and put on a aftermarket paddle magazine release…I put a better trigger box with different springs and polished components ….after all that ….it shoots okay…I kinda wish I’d just picked up a C308 mainly because I probably would have saved more money in the long run ….

    • @Triangle26
      @Triangle26  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's pretty much my experience as well. I ended up getting rid of my C308 and turning my PTR into a rather expensive Swedish AK4D "clone". After all that work, it still shoots okay. Neither of them are perfect rifles, but the C308 was really hard to beat for the price.

    That's terrible about those sites. The 2 PTR91 rifles I owned, (I sold the first one, needed money) never had that problem. I'm just thinking that the older rifles PTR91 made used surplus sites that were better made. My trigger is rather decent, too. I wish I could get one of those c308 rifles, but Maryland has banned them from being purchased here since I bought my PTR91 GI ten years ago.

    If you're a soldier and told to march up a hillside with 200 rounds, and be prepared for a few days out...hauling that pig. would not be so good! German engineering--and how f'ing complex can you make it! But it works and its unique and I love mine. Four days of TH-cam to figure out the bolt carrier/bolt lock-up....rotate, pull/twist twist, rotate back... Maybe the heft of the bolt carrier was a survival-aid...you can always club racoons, porcupines, salmon with it :-)

      Always a wise strategy 👍
      The good news is that CETME wood furniture is cheap and easy. I got mine from Centerfire Systems. Product is “Cetme Model C 5-Piece Replacement Parts Kit with Wood Furniture”. $25, in stock now.
      The bad news is that the H&K wood furniture is expensive and a pain. I thought I was overpaying when I gave $110 for a set from Northridge International, but they are now selling those same sets for $350. If it was me - I’d scour auction sites, and maybe try to find a deal on a rough set I could fix / refinish.

    I have both rifles Century & PTR. Both of my PTRs, the 91 & 9CT are new builds (2022). My PTR is 100 times better then the C308. The older PTRs were made with used military and law enforcement parts. All the new PTRs are using new in house built parts and ship with FULL AUTO internals. I own the PTR 91 & PTR 9CT and ran both in Full Auto right out of the box with no problems. My friend had a problem with his PTR, the head spacing was off, after PTR fixed it the rifle has ran perfectly.

    @bhoward9378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very interesting video.
    I can only speak from half of your experience because I have a PTR-100GI and have never owned a C-308. I have read that the CETME was originally built around a cartridge that was weaker than the 7.62x51 NATO. If I recall correctly, the effect of firing 7.62 NATO in a C-308 built on CETME parts, over time, is that the firearm simply wears out. This is not a quality control in manufacturing issue, it's a design issue. To the extent that the C-308 is now built on newly manufactured as opposed to surplus CETME parts, I wonder if the new parts are made to HK specs as opposed to original Spanish CETME tolerances. Yes, I am that much of a gun geek to actually wonder about this.

    • @Triangle26
      @Triangle26  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So this is a great point - and I suspect you may enjoy my “Introduction the the G3 Rifle Platform” video.
      I believe you are thinking of the CETME Modelo A, which was chambered in the reduced power ‘7.62 CETME’ cartridge. In my video, I argue that that the attenuated Spanish 7.62 cartridge was fundamentally better than the 7.62 NATO chambering of the CETME Modelo B.
      In any case, the Century C308 builds are based on Modelo B parts kits, which are indeed designed to take 7.62 NATO (or 308 Winchester) pressures, and shouldn’t experience premature parts wear compared to any other G3 type rifle.
      Gun geeks for life, brother. Those are precisely the type of inquiries which hold my interest as well.

    • @Triangle26
      @Triangle26  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you like PTR, you’ve answered your own question.
      The Gen 2 C308 was *built by PTR* on contract for Century. So Century’s QC isn’t relevant. The Gen 2 C308 was a PTR built rifle which used actual military surplus parts, for less than $500. It was a great value. I ultimately kept the PTR and sold the Century because I like the “clone appeal” of the PTR, but I can honestly say the Century was a functionally superior rifle.

      People who buy G3/HK91/CETME C type rifles typically are doing so because they are mechanically and historically interesting, not because they want the slickest 7.62 NATO launching platform on the market. The "headache" is actually part of what makes these weapons appealing.
      Furthermore, the Galil ACE is by no means the best option for a "headache free" battle rifle. Don't get me wrong, I like them, and its a very respectable choice. But for 9/10 Americans, an entry level AR-10 would still be the higher performing choice.
