      @@RhettReisman this video helped me so much thanks!
      Do you think you could do a video just showing how to do it using a ledger nano?
      It took me so long to figure out how to put it directly on my nano x because I'm a newbie lol.
      I finally figured out you have to be on ledger live, do receive, have the strike app open, have already previously deposited money on the app, then click pay and scan the QR code from ledger live. And I still wasn't sure if I did it right at first because the fee was like $8.14 and on everyone's videos they say the fee is only a few cents. But apparently that's just the onblock chain fee?
      It's been a journey man haha

    • @RhettReisman
      @RhettReisman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the whole thing can get pretty complicated haha hopefully it’s easier in the future.
      $8 is higher than I’ve seen from a Strike fee but it’s possible if you were sending during a high volume time period.
      I should have a video out in March about the best way to store crypto.
      Basic description on Ledger: make sure you get your ledger from the ledger website and that no one has used it before. Fill out the private keys and NEVER share them with anyone. Ledger live software allows you to set up wallet accounts for send / receive - sounds like you’ve gotten that set up already. I haven’t gotten the Bluetooth from my ledger X to ever work with my iPhone so I have to hook it up to my computer whenever I send.

      Could you make a video explaining ETH 2.0 and how that might affect its price, processes, and relation to BTC ?

    • @RhettReisman
      @RhettReisman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ll add that to the backlog :)
      Initial thoughts: ETH 2.0 should reduce these really high gas fees we’ve been seeing on ETH / other ETH based DeFi tokens. 2.0 (switches from proof of work to proof of stake) along with sharding will allow ETH to scale better.
      I don’t see ETH as a competitor to BTC. There is still no fixed supply in ETH, it is more centralized, and proof of stake is arguably less secure. So I don’t think ETH 2.0 will affect BTC at all.

    To create an account, Gemini is now asking for SSN, not merely a KYC doc like a driver's license. Why? Is this something to worry about? (I figure SSN is almost like a private key - you simply don't give it out unless there is a fully-justified legitimate reason for needing it.)

    • @RhettReisman
      @RhettReisman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most/all banks require an SSN to open an account. To your point, other crypto exchanges might not, but Gemini is a very compliant and regulated exchange (vs a lot of other crypto exchanges that are not necessarily as compliant). I’m definitely not a regulatory expert though and can’t make a decision for you about who you give your SSN out to.

      I've used Binance in the past for ADA and the experience (on mobile) was decent. I'm stuck on their legacy Binance and being forced to move over to Binance US right now haha so I've sort of fallen out with them. Might pick it back up if I'm looking for alts, they have a great selection.

      Swan, Strike and all the regular exchanges will show you the spot execution price. On the regular exchanges (Coinbase Pro, Gemini, Kraken) you’re getting the spot price set by the market. On Strike you’re getting 0.3% higher market spread (but no buy fees) and Swan you’re getting spot price (but you pay membership fee)

    Strike to lightning network wallet is the cheapest way.

    • @RhettReisman
      @RhettReisman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it depends what you want to use your Bitcoin for. If you keep your whole stack on a lightning wallet Strike + Lightning is definitely the cheapest way.
      But if you're holding in an on chain multisig or some other cold storage you'll have to convert to on-chain at some point. In which case Strike is only better if your on chain fee is less than the .1% maker fee over at Gemini (since Gemini pays for your first 10 on chain fees each month - effectively making all transfers to cold storage free)

    • @t.555

      What I’m using right is Strike to OKcoin via lightning network, strike actually gives you a cash back.

    • @RhettReisman
      @RhettReisman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As of now Robinhood is only good for speculating on the price of bitcoin. They don't let you actually take custody of the coins by withdrawing them to your own wallet.
      This isn't a problem if you just want exposure to bitcoin in your portfolio, but it makes it completely impossible to spend your coins, take custody of your coins, or earn interest on them on a platform like BlockFi.
