- Installing the ducting to our ERV system seemed like it would be a simple project, but simple does not always mean easy.
Because we’re doing ALL of this house build on our own, it means we have to learn a lot of different trades. We felt pretty secure in our knowledge of installing an ERV system, but when you’re new to a trade there will always be rookie mistakes.

And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on TH-cam. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 9 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the summer of 2022. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.

Yes, spend time with family! I almost died when I was 4 months pregnant. My life passed before me as I was swimming in the ocean and suddenly pulled under by a rip tide(current). It is true you don’t see pictures of things in your life only memories & pictures of people. This happened about 30 yrs ago. My daughter now lives in Fl. & I reside in Northern NJ. I go down to visit her as much as possible but it never seems enough. Enjoy your beautiful twins! The house will be waiting. HVAC is such a balancing act & probably less straight forward then even plumbing. I have two units and a huge home. To get my upper two floors duct work working in unison took time although I have ducts that open & close when called for. The air conditioning was much easier but I had to get a specialist in after we lived here a year. Best of Luck you are both very courageous! I have flies ducting and learned it is more about room for air flow in the ducking size. 🙏🙏🙏Blessings

Flexrören skall inte användas så som ni gjort utan på ställen som kattvindar , Dra vanliga 10 rör isolera dessa rör med rör isolering . Tycker ni att er ERV väsnas för mycket så montera in en eller flera ljuddämpare det finns i flera olika alternativ . Montera stela rör med monterings plåt eller håljärn .

We read that is best practice to have the vents up higher for the returns rather than in the floor. Good question.
On the generator how close must you be for the remote to funcion? I would place the generator at or near the house and run the power to the pump house.
The pump house is 300 ft from the main house. In my mind it is easier to have the generator at the main device panel then it will feed all of our other sub panels.
If I have to walk down to start the generator it won’t kill me.
Why did you use insulated pipe in conditioned space?
The thought was that it may help with any sound transfer in the ducting. Maybe it shouldn’t have been a concern.
If duct tape is not for ducting,then what is duct tape made for? I have used it for everything from body work to plumbing.
In my house, we call duct tape "turkey tape" 😂 cos the original name sounds like duck tape 😂🤣😂
How come you're not going solar?
isn't there some complicated math about how long lines can be as well to balance airflow?

In order to have your generator in your pump house and feed your main house during a power outage, even with a generator interlock, is to have a SECOND set of wires form the pump house to the main house.
Our pump house is right near our service panel. So the generator interlock would go on the main panel and the Herre stir would be stored in the pump house and moved out when needed. Sorry I wasn’t more clear.
