      The Fresh Tsar not the entire planet, our technology is no where near advanced to do that. Google eden project. I imagine it would be similar to that. Giant eco bubbles to get us started. Producing a viable atmosphere is the main issues. Good thing about fungus etc is they deal with radiation very well. Planet earth use to have mushrooms 2 meters tall, hundreds of thousands of years ago. This is what aided in breaking down rock into complex soil for things to grow. (This is a much simplified version of events)

    This is a great experiment. It tests out a huge part of the Arean biosphere issue.
    But as I note Little Cripple below, we have to deal with more than the plants and the macro life (earthworms), and that bacteria, proctista and fungi are all essential co-inhabitants that we need to have in the new biosphere.

    • @mtgradwell
      @mtgradwell 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seekingtruth "How does a rocket propel in space, [if] space is a vacuum?" Ooh, that's one I know! The answer is "better than it does in a non-vacuum". I mean: a rocket will work in lots of places, even underwater. But it will work much better in space because there's no drag to slow it down there like there would be in air or water.
      It's planes that don't work in a vacuum, because their wings wouldn't generate any lift. Also for a jet there'd be no air complete with oxygen to be sucked into the front of the engines and mixed with the fuel to create combustion. Propellers wouldn't work for pretty much the same reason that wings don't - there's nothing for them to gain traction against. Balloons would burst unless they were made of super-strong material, and in any case they wouldn't have any buoyancy in a vacuum. So, not only do rockets work, they're pretty much the only thing that does.

      Gee there only 7 billion us. Can Mars even hold all of us, including all our dogs, cats, fowls, cows, pigs, horses, sea creatures, and who is going to be left behind. Some of us might be afraid to go or stay. Sounds like another great movie or novel to me. It's cold and snowing in Wisconsin, (and we've had easy so far this year. Lets see if we can expand on this. Lets see...the background could be The is speeding up in warming,or the next Ice Age strikes quickily, or a comet hits or Panet Nine or Oumuamua or a Black Hole is going eat us. That could be Part or chapter One. Then just as we got all those problems solved an ancient super intelleigent undersea beings fleeing the increasingly poisonous oceans attack followed vocanic eruption like the permian extinction, the Earth stops asthe crust slips over the mantle and all human history is all but erased from the planet and eons later some evolved orange oranatangs from New York marvel at a tilted over Statue Of Liberty pondering history Meanwhile on Mars.....It could be a great Winter Project, Who Knows could be a Classic. Whatya think?

    Keep in mind, going to Mars is a one way trip.
    I refer to people who actually land on the planet.
    First, initially there would be no way to "lift off" once you got there.
    Secondly, if you were able to successfully survive on Mars for an extended period of time, your bones and muscles would weaken in the lighter gravity.
    Therefore, if you did return to earth, earth's gravity would be so strong on your body you would barely be able to stand up.
    This is actually the premise for the movie; The Space Between Us.
    So once you became a "Martian" there's no returning to earth.

    • @dango6266
      @dango6266 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      KreativeCanada sadly, I've never seen that movie and I've wanted to.

    • @kuriousitykat
      @kuriousitykat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Future tech development with exo-skeleton/exo-suits could negate that problem enabling Martians to have Earth-norm strength. Also future tech development of genetic engineering & nanotech could be useful too.

    • @KreativeCanada
      @KreativeCanada 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      While that may be accurate, it is very unlikely that someone born on Mars would want to wear an exo-suit all their life on the odd chance they may visit earth someday.
      Keep in mind, these are little kids we're referring to.
      So when these Martian kids grown up to be adults, their bodies will have adapted to a planet with 62% less gravity than on earth.
      Life on Mars would feel "normal" to them.
      A normal adult on Mars could weigh 200 lbs, but on earth they would feel like they weighed 600 lbs. That is just the effect on their muscles, the effects on their internal organs would be massive too.
      Just like in the movie, The Space Between Us, people born on Mars would not be able to survive on earth for an extended period of time.
      Therefore, going to Mars, and living there, is a one way trip.

    • @GaminGilmore
      @GaminGilmore 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What makes you so sure that a mars trip would be a one way journey? SpaceX has plans of being able to mine methane gas and refuel for a trip home. It is likely that the first people on mars will stay for 2 years at a time before returning. But yes you are right that a person born on mars would have significant difficulty living on earth after living on mars. But I suspect that the first martian colonies would have rules against reproduction, because of the increased chance of birth deformities from the low gravity.

    • @thursoberwick1948
      @thursoberwick1948 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue you refer to is technical. It is easier to launch a rocket off Mars due to lower escape velocity. Easier than off the Earth. However you have to have all the fuel etc there and that's the problem you refer to.

  • @ethana2

    I'm reading the white coloration of the Hellas Basin as absolutely optimal, since that's what the surrounding topology of color alludes to. Which is great-- lowest elevation, highest atmospheric pressure. I mainly came here to make sure my ideas about humanity settling in the north-west edge of Hellas Planitia weren't torpedoed by the factors this team was looking at.

    One thing wasn't mentioned. I don't consider it as a good idea to live anywhere north. If Mars is terraformed and the ice melts there'll be an ocean in the North (apart from one large landmass within the ocean) there'll of course be rivers and lakes in the south (some are huge, essentially sea's). Its easy to figure it out based on NASA's current data in relation to elevation and ice deposits. Of course terraforming is a very ambitious idea, it may never be possible. But if it does happen it would be sad to see mars's first colony under the ocean (or sea/lake)

    I did my own research as a architect who has a strong interest in the mars colony settlement location. i loved this video very much and its very correct about the impacts that have affected the other side of the planet. Please correct me if i am wrong, but i think the strong wind factor hasn't been considered that important, or maybe it has.
    But if i was to settle on mars (Note: elon musk) it would be in 1. Amazonis Planitia - Emenides Dorsum. or 2. Orcus Patera or 3. Hyblaeus Dorsa 4. Totting (away from the wind, close enough to a shielding crater and a flat plain to access water.
    I've seen the current wind forces video (2022) flow (used to be water) straight down from the north to Acidalia Planitia (hence the flat plains) into the channels of Valles maineris, and flow back out again.
    The wind would then idle around arabia terra, and continue to head north to join the powerful wind currents of the north. staying clear of these winds, would be like living off the fault lines here on earth.

    • @GaminGilmore
      @GaminGilmore 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah technically you could "arrive" at mars in 39 days if you accelerated enough. But you have to remember that space is essentially friction-less, which means that if you don't slow down before you arrive, you will either fly right past mars into empty space, or crash into mars at 36,000mph. But even if you did burn your engines backwards to bleed off all that horizontal velocity, you wouldn't have enough fuel to land on mars, or even return to earth. That is why most trips to mars take ~10 months, because they want to make the trip as efficient as possible.

    The first stage of Martian colonization would probably include efforts to seed plants and bacteria on the areas that are most habitable. I would start by selectively breeding/genetically modifying plants that would be able to make the most of the Martian conditions. That way the later stages would have richer soil cultivated by years of plant growth and decay. Not to mention it would be a small step forward in possibly terraforming the planet. Mostly simple hardy plants. Mosses, grasses, lichens, fungi, shrubs, small trees would have to wait a while.

Along with the windblown sand deposits that now cover the entire planet and murderous low PH? Found all over and murderous to bacteria giving the entire planet its rusted metal color. Also how do you remove the irradiated H3 that permiates almost the entire surface exept under the CO2 poles and lava tube caves? Would washing the soil work? What chemicals would be used? While I can potentially see small colony's on Mars the biggest obstacle is radiation and atmosphere, especially long term to even potentially make anything other than a very advanced expensive small science "colony" possible. And even then it might meet complete failure or very minor success. Gravity can be an issue as well though I think finding a long term solution to it will be considerably easier though it would certainly cause problems early on. In short we can maybe establish small science colony (probably never more than 10-25 people) in the next 30 years but making long term civilian or commercial colony's wont come for much longer or potentially never.
