Thanks! Being a voice actor who uses LogicPro, there were lots of gems here for me even though I don't use as much as musicians in their projects. Much appreciation to you.
Great summary. I'm pretty good about archiving... now. I wasn't always. I've put out 6 albums since around 2004, and for my first two albums all I have are the final mixes... the projects are long gone. By album 3 I realized I was doing a terrible job of archiving, so for albums 3-6 I have everything. I have three external backup drives and my albums are on all three. One of the three backups is sitting on a shelf at work. Side Note - my first album has tracks done in GarageBand, Cubase, Reason, and Logic. By my second album I was 100% Logic and that was the smartest thing I've done.
In the project browser you can go even further by selecting your audio files then go to Audio File > Optimize Files. This will trim your audio files so that only the parts used in your project are kept (audio regions). Be sure to save your project with all your files included before doing this though, or it will trim your original audio files. This saved me tons of space on older projects.
Thank you for this important video. There are many ways to get into trouble with this software. Sa far I have avoided massive issues by saving project alternatives and versions to separate folders with everything contained in the folder, and simply archiving them to external drives. It takes up a lot of space but is so easy. External storage space is costly, but avoidance of surprises is worse. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video! This is a very important topic, though one of the less sexy aspects of music production. Gonna send this to some of the rappers I work with lol.
Hey Chris! Great video, thank you for all this infos. I'm used to work with multiples projects within a same folder, one for the recording, and one for the mix, for instance, so they share the same "Audio Files" and "Bounces" folders. When I clean up my projects to archive them, how can I be sure that Logic won't delete an audio file that is used by another project in my folder? I hope that makes sense...thank you and happy new year!

Very good! Well explained and organized! Wish you and your beloved ones a great 2023!
Excellent Stuff. You didn't go over the optimize files feature? It has been handy for me to reduce session bloat when I archive. Do you ever use it?

Yes. Midi>Transform>Quantize and save as a preset
