- This lawn was very rutted and bumpy. The homeowner wanted that fixed! The best way to do this was as mentioned in the video. I lost some footage of me using the leveling rake on this job, so I used some footage from when I leveled my lawn a year ago. Using screened topsoil is key!
After you level, you can add seed, fertilizer and water! See some of my other videos to help you with those next steps to be successful!

I can see where that top soil adds minerals which are the basis for future growth and a well established lawn.

great video, just what i was looking for. how heavy should my lawn roller be without squashing/suffocating the seeds?
A bit of advice... When using your electric corded detacher/scarifier, zigzag you power cord near the power source/outlet, and work your way out away from the power cord. This way you're not haven't move it out of the way.

@@RootedLawnCo TTTF, I renovated the back yard this past fall and it has come in well, I just need to handle some weeds. I still need to do some leveling back there over time. I have learned a lot from the lawn community since then, so I’m going to try to do it a little better this time!!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I just did this with topsoil and I still see bumps but I went in with the expectation that I won’t get it all on the first try. The next time I do it will be in the fall with a compost sand mixture. I rented the roller but it’s better to buy your own so you will have plenty of time.
Yeah, the topsoil will get ya filled in better, and I think you have the right idea with doing sand/compost in the Fall. Compost will wash away though from what I read. Could do just sand if it’s not too bad. 1yard/1ksqft
Exactly what I plan to do and from watching countless other videos, is a small journey that will take a few efforts to accomplish. Going to get native topsoil delivered, fill in ruts and regrade a few spots this summer then in fall use compost-sand mix.

Great Video man! Quick Question ... you say at the end "it's ready for seed"? So do you not recommend seeding before rolling?
I’ll roll after seeding only to gain seed to soil contact. So the roller would almost be empty, then I go over the seeded areas. Does that make sense?

Are you not burying your existing grass? I really want to raise some low spots, and of course will re seed, but I don’t want to kill all the existing grass. Will it die or grow through?

Amazing how people are learning these things now I lived in united emirates so that’s all they had was sand to grow grow grass seeds and works beautifully
Does topsoil help my grass to green up or I should use fertilizer? Any recommendations would be appreciated
Fertilizer would be your main source for greening up your lawn.
