what i’d like to understand is how the shapes within a design are chosen. meaning, how do you decide which bits will have a light outline around them with a different tone or shade? are you just choosing the shapes based on light? is there some formula? like divide the image into three color ranges and block them in? i’m not sure if i’m describing it right, but there’s a look in NeoTrad where it’s realistically shaped (the outline and feature placement) but the fill is blocked out and simplified. are there rules or guidelines used to take something from a reference photo to a neotrad design? thanks for all you’re doing to help us learn the craft.

I notice in neo traditional things are layred a lot more. For exmapt a skull wont just he eye holes and a nose hole but like 3-4 layers of shapes just for the nose, then almost helmet like eye framing with internal layers. The specific parts of the subject seem to be outlined and almost put together like Legos. On animal i noticed the nose is always bold and likes rather than shaded to show depth.

I am a Barber by trade and I’ve been burned out cutting hair my passion is to be a professional tattoo artist I’ve been doing art since I can remember. Pretty much taught myself to tattoo in prison not knowing shit from shit😂 some years back but this past 18 months I’ve been taking it more serious and I tried an apprenticeship at my boys shop and I just sat around it doing shit I got kids and they eat so I had to bounce and do me… And your story and videos has helped me out immensely I’ve pretty much been learning how to draw and all that all over again but your techniques have made it easier for me just want to say much love and respect my dude! Keep doing what you’re doing! 💯✍️🩸
Nice video!! Thanks for helping us that are in need.. I had the Packer then i sold it bcuz i was scared of tearing up the skin.. So i bought the Shader.. A video tutorial using the Shader with maybe light tones and or dark tone Roses would be helpful. Thanks Dude👍✌️

I'm almost 50 and have wanted to start tattooing for decades. Can finally afford it and am now trying to catch up as fast as possible.
Really struggling to draw hair with a neo traditional/ traditional style feel like I can do the face and I’m just not getting how the whole hair shading sorta thing works my brain isn’t braining with it does anyone have any tips
using refernces from real life will help. Years ago when I was an apprentice all my neotad stuff looked new school, when I used references from real life, it flattened everything out and looked way better
