They've been working with game developers Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Alan Wake, Control) for the past ~20 years, and several of their songs are written for, or parallell to, the games developed. From Late Goodbye in Max Payne 2 and this one plus several others for Alan Wake, to My Dark Disquiet and Take Control in Control. Sometimes they use the semi-fictional band name "Old Gods of Asgard" when their stuff is appearing in games. (Seen in Alan Wake and Control) :) They are amazingly talented, thank you for going through some of their stuff - they deserve the attention and love! Definitely play it again. ^^
@@GrizzlyBear6364 One of the apartment scenes has a talkshow on the TV you can watch and it has Sam Lake on it, who is prompted by the host to "do that face you do" and he makes the Max Payne face they used for the first game's skins. This was back when game design could be fun for the developers.
This is my favourite song, hands down, by anyone ever. The Poets are almost criminally underrated and unknown, so it makes me super happy to see more people reacting to them and discovering Marko's incredible voice and the beautiful arrangements of their songs. Some more Poets of the Fall song recommendations for you: "False Kings" (great Bond song vibes), "Given and Denied" (simply beautiful), and "No End, No Beginning" (an underappreciated gem). As some others have pointed out, they also make music for video games, often going by an alter ego name "Old Gods of Asgard", so you can find some slightly heavier stuff if you search for that. I particularly recommend "Balance slays the demon". They do jump between styles a lot - no album is quite like the previous one and in their most recent album I feel like they switched genres between each song. Quite honestly, I don't mind. I'd listen to anything if it's them making it. By now I've listened to rock, metal, pop, prog rock, electro pop(?), some sort of almost western style song, beautiful ballads and some songs I couldn't even put into any genre, all done by them, and they were all great.
Please continue this journey guys, they have such a wide variety of sound but their musicality is always on point and of course Marko's voice! I believe this song and the video in particular was for the Alan Wake game as they are friends with Sam Lake, the creative game developer (of Max Payne fame). Love from Montreal, keep rocking!
All this great Finnish 🇫🇮 music ! All these talents, Poets of the Fall, Insomnium, Annti Martikainen, Nightwish, Sibelius, and the other 250 vocalists, bands, unique composers ...., regretting not mentioning them all.
Another great tune from Poets, so catchy and well done. So glad that you two are enjoying the journey through their music... For your next reaction to them I would go with "Dreaming Wide Awake". They started the shows with this one on the last tour, a nice *Rocker*! You guys are awesome, keep up the good work eh!!!
Some context behind this video; Poets worked with a video game company called Remedy which made this game Alan Wake which featured this song. They have collaborated on a couple of games now (both from Finland). This video is like a music video from Alan Wake.
I see "Poets of the Fall" and I "Like" it immediately! Would have subscribed to, but already did that many many months ago! 😉 The safest bet to avoid any "clowns" is to watch any of their 12 live acoustic songs they played during COVID last year...the Alexander Theatre Sessions. These stripped down versions are still musically beautiful, but also really showcase Marko's voice! I like Jealous Gods, False Kings, Lift, etc...they were all good!!
I would like to add to the person who explained about the bands connection to certain video games. The actor in the music video is actually who Alan Wake's character was modeled after and he is acting as Alan Wake in this video. The video in itself is following the game's story a bit.
Poets Of The Fall is an amazing and underrated band. They're actually my favorite band and all their albums are excellent from beginning to end. Another great obscure rock band worth checking out is Murfy's fLaw. They're from Kenya of all countries yet have some pretty rockin' songs, especially Contagious, The Right Now and Steal A Beat.
Great reaction, Folks! I'm going to do you a solid and recommend some clownless Poets of the Fall videos: Drama For Life, False Kings, Sweet Escape, & Can Hear You Hear Me.
This video was released alongside Remedy's 'Alan Wake' video game which was a worthy successor to their Max Payne series. Alan Wake is a novelist in the vein of Stephen King, who has hit a long slump. He decides to take a trip into the Cascades with his wife to get away from everything and focus on his story. Their stay at a cabin by the lake is almost immediately disturbed by his wife's disappearance into the darkness (which she fears absolutely). You go out to look for her but things happen, and Alan finds himself living out the very story he was writing, having no memory of writing it but finding the pages to the story along the way. It had some innovated game play and the story was top notch, being inspired by Stephen King and the show 'Twin Peaks'. The main guy in this video is portraying Alan Wake and the imagery is much as it is in the game.
Ginger: Clowns Again! Alan Wake Fans: Wait til you see the Taken at 5:15 Appreciate the reaction to this great song by the Old Gods of Asgard a.k.a POTF. Song's premise based on the game Alan Wake
Fun Fact for this. This song was made for the game Alan Wake. If anyone has played the game they will understand what is going on. If not then the video is left up to interpretation. And sometimes people get confused with this song and the video.Either way I loved your reaction to this! As a gamer it made me happy to see someone reacting to a song from one of my favorite video games! As a music lover I love it even more :D
This song, from Alan Wake game. In watch Poets perform this song as themselves, Also play characters in game As an old rock group called old gods of Asgard.
The parts with the guy in the forest are heavily connected with the game Alan Wake. For example light Is the only thing to help you in the game, i had never noticed that connection in the video. Nice
Nice reaction! 😍 If you would like something more up beat and rocky sound from them, try their hit "Lift". It is soooo good! And Marcos vocals really shine there.
Their latest album, Ghostlight, (which you probably have listened to already!) has more Marko falsetto than on any of their other albums. This album, in my opinion, is their best work to date, and I like them all (well, Clearview not so much). Ghostlight and Jealous Gods are vying for the number one spot on my Poets list.
You guys should Check out a live Performance from them, They are Just as Good Live. I would suggest you to react to the Song lift from their Moscow Concert 2013.

I love how they are in Alan Wake as Old Gods of Asgard! This is how I discovered Poets!

Esa Holopainen as well
Great instrumentation meets meaningful lyrics delivered with enjoyable vocals, what could be better?

React to, "Cradled in Love", "Jealous gods", "False Kings"
Lol, didn't even remember this one had a clown scene. I don't think there's (much) clowns in their other videos so you're safe.
