Welcome back to E30 restoration! In this episode of BMW E30 project car series, we're diving deep into the nitty-gritty of rust repairs, focusing specifically on the notorious wheel well areas. Join me as I tackle the challenges of corrosion head-on and breathe new life into this classic Bimmer.
Project Overview:
I bought this E30 this autumn as a small project for me, but like many vintage cars, it's not immune to the effects of time. The wheel wells, prone to rust, have been a thorn in our side, and it's high time we address the issue with a comprehensive repair job. From surface rust to more severe corrosion, I’m leaving no stone unturned. Or in this case, metal undone.
Step-by-Step Repairs:
Follow along as I take you through each step of the wheel well rust repair process. The process is usually the same in most E30:s, but my car is a bad example as the rotting is not always as bad as this car has. In this episode you will see how I handled the rust removal to welding in new panels, and sharing my techniques and tools I use to bring this E30 back to its former glory! You'll find out that this small'ish rust hole repair expands to a lot bigger job than expected. This part of the car has rusted so much more than at first glance. I spent a long time on this part of the restoration, and it took me a very long time to edit this episode. So I do hope you enjoy this one!
I do have experience in working on cars, but as you might have noticed, I am by no means a professional. I have done rust repairs before, but I have never done rust repairs as in depth as with this car.
Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or just starting in the world of automotive restoration, there's something for everyone in this video.

I had a red s12 180zx once. Just it was almost mint for its age, so any little specks and seams looking sus I made new. A week later I crashed it.

amazing video, good techniques with available equipment. Please wear proper respiratory protection, I have a feeling when you sneeze at the end of the day or cough, whatever comes up is black. good job with the gloves, people overlook the effects of metal debris on your skin over long periods of time. keep yourself safe and protected so you can do this as long as you want

Ow man, i just sprayed a lot of rust inhibiter in those front beams. Knowing my welding, opening it up would probably maje stuff worse..

How you know what shape the new piece must be to put back and weld it?
Or lets say old part is so rusted that you even dont know exact shape.
TBH I dont know. Usually just by checking photos of the part and make a part that resembles the original shape.
