    I did the conversion on my E39 530i. I love how it drives now. Respect for doing this on jack stands. I did the job on my 2-post lift and can't imagine doing it on jack stands.

    I love your DIY videos, especially since you show that all this work can be done with jack stands and common hand tools. Also including the mistakes that you make shows that nothing goes perfectly, but you always find a work around to make it work.

    i made the same swap 2 years ago with the help of write ups from BMW E90post forum (DIY AUTOMATIC TO MANUAL SWAP)....its quite detailed there aswell. your video will make it much easier especially when it comes to the wiring. i cant help but notice how similar the 335i manual gearbox, flywheel clutch and pressure plate is to the 330d e90...EXCELLENT WORK!!!

    Thank you for your great work. I just replaced old manual 300000 miles tranny to fresh one on my 1997 BMW Z3 2.8 I did not disconnect the exhaust and I did not disconnect the frame under the oil pan. On jack stands I spend 7 hours. But please always use rtv grey when you replace the output and input shaft seals on your tranny.

    I cut the line all the way at the trans cooler when I did mine, not that it really changes anything, love how much easier it is for the shifter without a transfer-case in the way, also the throw on that stock shifter is long 😳

      Yeah a short throw will be coming down the line.

    • @maxcliff91
      @maxcliff91 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see a potential issue here. The self adjusting pressure plate usually comes with a locking mechanism with a hole in the center that still allows the alignment tool to go through it. That locking mechanism CANNOT be removed before installing and torquing of the P/P. Ask me how I know, I had to completely disassemble and redo my clutch job because of this mistake. The car would not go in gear.

    What keeps bringing me back to watch more and more is that you screw up, as we all do, but you don't make a big deal out of it, you simply work through the problem, get it done and move on.

    I saw the error right away when the pressure plate came to view, thats s self adjusting pressure plate and has a locking plate on the fingers to keep them in place. Installed wrong it’ll wear out your clutch or worse not allow the transmission to engage any gear

    • @VehicularDIY
      @VehicularDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I bet I wouldn't have been able to engage any gears given how much the pressure plate compressed.

    Impressive job, well-done! I have watched a Wheeler Dealers episode where Ant Anstead converted an E46 M3's DSG to a manual gearbox. Here is my question: I have an e93 M3 with DCT and would like to convert it to a 6-speed manual. I wonder if there are professional shops that can do this job for me?

    Great job and video! Stupid question: Do you just knock out part of the pedal cluster trim panel to make room for the clutch pedal? From what I can see it's the same part for auto and manual. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow but thought I'd ask. TIA

  • @peepeeskillz

    How did you get the transmission on? I took mine off for a clutch job and can’t get it back on 😭. We got the input shaft into the splines, but we though we needed the transmission flush onto both dowels before tightening the bolts down but can’t get it flush. Do you just use the bolts to pull it into place? The bottom dowel we can get but the top one still has a 1/4 inch gap

    Question - do you need to install a pilot bearing into the rear of the motor (before flywheel)? I also watched the video where donut media did the swap on the e36 and that’s what it seems like, but I don’t see that in this series ? Just want to make sure I do this correctly !
