  • This will be the third and final video in my manual transmission conversion series.
I have a 2008 BMW 335i E90 that was an automatic and I swapped it to a manual at home.
In this video I show you how to wire the car and how to code the car to make this all work.
Here is a link to the series in case you missed part 1 and part 2:
    • Manual Transmission Co...
We use INPA, NCS Expert and NCS dummy to accomplish this.
I am working on my 2008 BMW 335i in this video. The procedure will be similar for most models.
If you need a K+D Can cable you can purchase it here (affiliate):

Here is the link to setup INPA:

I want to give a special shout out to the seller who put together this manual conversion kit for me. He actually has a TH-cam channel, give him a follow if you can:
    / @eurogarbagegarage396
I'd like to thank ECS Tuning for helping with with the flywheel and clutch combo, you can purchase that hardware at this link (affiliate):

I have a 2011 335D, but tuned to 660 ft-lbs of torque. Wonder if any manual trans can handle it. Stock alone @ 436 ft-lbs is almost supercar territory so which trans setup will you use?

@@FjordTrotter I've done the 335d manual conversion, use all stock 330d parts, mine is 380 bhp 740nm,use a stage 2 sachs clutch. there is a E-type drift car with a 700bhp 2jz in it uses the 330d e90 6 speed box, its well strong enough.

I did this swap on my channel too! Except not as instructive haha. You really are diy! The auto brake pedal may be turned into a manual but you’d need a mount pressed into the auto one and i couldn’t find it, it’s not just plug and play and for anyone without MHD you can also clear all the automatic trans faults but using NCSExpert and resetting the vehicle features. When you power the car back on it communicates with all the modules and since it won’t see an automatic trans module it’ll think it’s a manual and no faults. This swap is actually the easiest thing in the world, all plug and play! Like you said. It’s a whole new car

You don't need to reflash the dme, you have to go into inpa and clear variant adaptations.
    Engine Module -> F5 - Status -> F1 - Digital Values -> F5 - Vehicle Options or Equipment
In this menu you will see a bunch of dots. Look for Automatic Gearbox. It may also be in German, Automatik Getriebe. If it's filled in, go to F8 - Clear -> F1 - Transmission. This will make the dme forget about the auto trans module as well as it's adaptation values and it will default to manual on the next key on event when it doesn't detect the tcm. You may have to let the car "sleep" first after clearing.

Just wanted to know if you have it enabled, and if so what settings? There are so many mixed feelings about it, one being how obnoxious it can be, two being 'bad for the engine/turbos etc' ... just wondered what your thoughts/opinions were about the burble setting? FYI, I have had it switched off for quite some time now.

I spun the CANBUS wrong and had chased it around for two months, so I didn’t drive it for two months, probably use the info you provided to finally wire my reverse lights, I actually put in the manual harness....also clutch chatter is really only an issue with twin disk, single disk isn’t an issue you should bring the idle back down, mine made a bad pose for the trans because the actuator brushes the clutch at full bottom out and it self adjusts after driving it, probably go away

Thanks! No I just work on cars as a hobby on the side. I did work part time in high school at a shop for a year and got comfortable around cars.

Well done. I believe the grind noise is your starter, manual is usually less teeth.

Just watched all 3 parts before embarking on my manual swap this weekend and I think you just saved me a lot of headaches and answer-finding! Holy!! You're goated! Couple questions that came to mind when you did this. What nuts/ bolts would you recommend are 100% mandatory to get that won't transfer from the auto? I bought mine from some guy and have no spare car to scrape the bolts from. And when you flashed MHD at the end, was that just your regular ST tune that you ran before or it was a new "special" tune?

Now as I know everything I need to do to do manual swap, I'm really considering doing it in near future. As soon as I have access to the lift, I'm doing it! I would get too angry while doing it on jack stands lol

I'm just finishing this job up my n54 e82. It's pretty much identical, even the coding and wiring. Drive shaft - I was not able to reuse my automatic transmission driveshaft. I thought I would have to buy a n54 driveshaft (cannot be found used) but an n55 manual driveshaft actually fits - slightly longer than spec I suspect, but still fits.

@Vehicular DIY Sorry for being late to the party.. Did you ever solve the grinding noise on start up? If so did it end up being a problem with the clutch / pressure plate? When I first listened it almost sounded like the starter was staying engaged for a second too long. I am curious if the starter is different for the manual versus the automatic starter that you left in. Was wondering if this might have caused the issue?
