    I read where the T34 crews got so frustrated with the Tiger's resistance to their shooting that they started ramming the Tiger tanks. Hitler insisted on using the Panthers before their "field test" at Kursk. A large part of that force broke down before they got into the battle. Great job putting this all together.

    the tiger that wouldn't die at 9:46 is actually realistic, it happened at the battle of Kursk where Tiger 231 commanded by Lieutenant Zabel from the 503rd heavy tank battalion took 252 hits from AT rifles, 5.6 AT guns and 7.62 AT guns. I know this isn't comparable to the tens of T-34s firing at the Tiger at point blank range like on the video, but nevertheless it still happened.

  • @gangstalker69
    @gangstalker69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    have you ever considered doing a what if video of if Eisenhower listened to Patton and remobilized the German Wermacht to help attack the Russian ? I think it would be neat to see a US/UK/German assault against a heavily Russian defended hill or even a second Kursk with experimental and late war tanks going at it

    • @fuzzydunlop7928

      Good alternate history idea. It's kinda surprising how quickly the Germans (and especially the Japanese) went from being the US' sworn enemies to being allies.

    • @ZacDynasty

      Fuzzy Dunlop fear of the Nuclear Warhammer will do that; the Japanese and German govs knew America would be a new world power and decided to look to the future rather than the past.

    It was the Su-152 that got the nickname Zveroboy (beast slayer) Unlike the ISU-152 it used a KV1s chassis.

    • @richardvangelder344
      @richardvangelder344 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it didn't! The ISU-152 got that nickname, that has been proven conclusively... The nickname was in two different versions. "Animal Killer" or more commonly referred to as "Beast Killer!" The Russian name you gave Zveroboy is correct. Like I said, it was more commonly know as the "Beast Killer."

    Also, a Tiger being hammered over and over without being knocked out was fairly common when it was first introduced. 100mm of frontal armor and 80mm of side armor was unheard of. Even by today's standards the Tiger is a big ass tank. The Tiger weighs in at around 65 tons while the M1A2 Abrams comes in at 70 tons. Tiger tanks broke down and were lost that way more often than they were destroyed by enemy fire.

    Must say like your battles & maps. Another factor that affected the Battle of Kursk was that the Russian learnt early in their battles with Germany that the Germans would control the battlefields after the battle & recover vehicles for repair but at Kursk the Russians maintained control of the battlefield not allowing the German to recover damaged & repairable tanks/vehicles. But some of the German units/divisions didn't make their battle positions.

    That Tiger that you said should have died isn't quite true. In fact a Tiger 1 had a recorded 257 tank rounds that bounced off and the Tiger survived so it is quite possible for that tiger to survive all that punishment

    • @ronipala12
      @ronipala12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevyn Barnhart its not. tigers were build out of worse steel quality then soviet tanks and theres a pic of a kv1 that was smacked 150+ times. and that tank was far from okay. so i doubt a tiger survived 257 shots

    • @commissar.yarrick

      Commissar Yarrick by the time tigers fought Shermans they had versions with guns easily capable of penetrating the frontal armor of one.

    • @Greencze
      @Greencze 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tigers fought Shermans in Africa long LONG before they even considered building the 76 mm gun variant. So no. By the time Tigers fought Shermans, the shermans were a quick snack for the tiger with almost next to no chance of the sherman killing the tiger.

    The Russian positions in the battle of Kursk were a lot more static and dug in than what you represented. I know you're not going for total accuracy, but the Russians were waiting for the Germans to come at them and most of their tanks were in entrenched shooting positions with nothing but their turret above the earth works. They spaced anti-armor guns with infantry supporting them in mutually supporting firing angles and minefields used to channel the German spear heads down corridors along their flanks so that the gunners could get side armor shots on them as they passed. Many Russian positions waited until they were almost perpendicular to their lines and also ambushed the passing armor with massed infantry swarms who were in hidden trenches and spider holes, using Molotovs and hand placed armor penetrating explosives. The trench works were so extensive that it rivalled many WWI battlefields in their depth, and they dug many antitank trenches that got many units of German armor stuck in a gun down angle, presenting their thin armored tops to gun crews and dug in tanks. Hitler screwed the pooch by not maintaining the initiative that he had won at the beginning of Operation Barbarossa and halted his entire army when the Russians were barely hanging on by a thread. The time was sufficient enough for the Russians to call up more tanks and produce many new ones that drove straight off the production lines directly into the Kursk salient. The Russian civilians were called up in the hundreds of thousands to dig earth works and trenches spanning mile after mile in the time Hitler was waiting for his new Tigers to get to the front. He weighed the benefits of having the superior Tiger on the front line too heavily and disregarded the production capabilities of the Russians, and thought they were a final push away from defeat. This made him too confident in the battles outcome, and he didn't think time would make a difference. He wanted his Tigers at the front to preserve German tank/infantry losses with their superior capabilities because he was afraid of losing too many units in this battle. He already had thoughts of swinging back around and confronting the allied Western front after finishing the Russians. That's the major reason why he saw the Tiger as being so important, even though their numbers couldn't justify that amount of faith he had in them.
    Hitler's generals were appalled at the amount of time the enemy was given to build up their defenses and get their troops and armor in order for their final stand. Up until Kursk the Germans had steam rolled the Russian defenses back hundreds of miles so Hitler's confidence is understandable but shortsighted. The Russian tank reserves were supposed to be held back for a counter attack once the lines had been stabilized, but this was not to be as they had to be thrown in early just to keep the battle line from completely dissolving into chaos and retreat.
    Many historians say that this was the closest Hitler came to victory over the Russians and that if he had just allowed his generals to continue their push without hindering them and hamstringing their advance, He might have actually forced Russia to the bargaining table to surrender unconditionally. I'm not disappointed by the outcomes of Kursk, but it does make you wonder what could have happened if Hitler had been a little more perceptive, a little less dismissive of his high commands advice, and if he had given his generals more freedom to conduct their battles as they saw fit. He was nothing more than a corporal in terms of military rank before he became Fuhrer, and his delusions of grandeur prevented him from taking sound advice and conceding the fact that he had never really been a high level military commander with any real world experience, or even gone to schooling in the arts of full scale war as his generals had all done in their time.
    In other words, Hitler defeated himself.

    idk if anyone told you this yet but you're wrong on the second type of russian td it's neither the SU-152 nor the SU-122 due to the 152 was built on the kv series hull and the 122 was smaller then the 63rd at 2:02. as you can see it's on a is series hull so it's a ISU series. also the super structures on the SU-152 and the 122 are totally different.

    The issue with the Russian army was that most of the people put into tanks had to idea how to use them. You would have a tank commander telling its crew what to do, how to do it, and where to go. They were pretty much just rolling death boxes because even if they did get a few shots off they would be decimated by the Germans because the Germans had trained crews who were mostly elite veterans at this point. It can be said 1 Tiger tank can take on 5 Russian tanks, 10 if the crews have no idea what they are doing.
    The only way Russia wins in tank battles is by throwing overwhelming numbers of forces at the Germans and even if 99% of all forces are killed they call it a victory. If they call it a stalemate they say it's a victory but in retrospect a stalemate for Russia is when they run out of tanks because they are all dead.

    Hey Diplex
    Im trying to make Battles with the gem editor
    Do you have a tipp how i can set large amounts of soldiers to a team/player.
    Because selecting them one after one is really annoying

    • @Jan-rq8mo
      @Jan-rq8mo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or how can i order troops to move on their own before they see the enemy.
      Because right now i slow the time and give the orders myself, but there has to be a automatic way, right?

      Use F3 mode to place soldiers and tanks, the environment (bushes/trees/roads) are always in F2. Then you can just select all the military assets easily and change their team.
