I have the same one, but I did a bunch of mods. Shimmed the neck to pitch it back slightly to make it easier to intonate. Shielded the pickup cavity with copper tape. Installed locking tuners, roller trees, red metal control knobs and a white pearl pickguard. Just FYI, it has the hardtail bridge because it's designed to be a cheap version of the Fender Player Mustang, which also has a hardtail bridge. I also have a Bullet Mustang that I modded into a Bullet Mustang-90, obviously with P90s and all the same mods as the Sonic. One major difference between the old Bullet and the new Sonic is that the Bullet has contour body cutouts, the Sonic does not. It's a flat slab on both sides.
Great review .I would just add that if you're a new player don't rush to change to heavier strings.Stick with 9s and toughen up your fingers on those before trying 11s
Hey bro! Ur vids are dope. I got a mustang recently and fell in love with it. I wished u did lessons & tutorials on ur specific technique. U come across as a true guitarist. Rock on! 🤘😎
I already have time with my eyes on this guitar, and the more I hear about it, the more I love it, it seems that it has everything I'm looking for and I love it, now I just need to try it to know if it's what I really want, by the way, good video, and I'm sorry if something was not understood, I'm not an native English speaker
This is one of the best guitar demos I've seen on TH-cam. That intro music sounds awesome; I subscribed. I've had my eye on this model and the Squier Sonic Telecaster ever since they came out. Does anyone have experience with both guitars? Which would you recommend? I'm leaning toward this one because of the shorter scale length. I'm a tall guy with long hands, but why work harder if I don't have to? I also think the red paint job looks killer.
Thank you!! I'm actually going to record a comparison of Sonic Tele and this red Sonic Mustang, so hold on for a few days if you can and you'll see that on my channel :) but if you have large hands then Telecasters will probably be better for you
@@popkorn256 it’s torture! It’s sat in the box in our bedroom away from the kids and I keep saying ‘we have to check it for damage just be sure!’ But she’s having none of it
My wife let me go to gc and pick mine up today. One happy guy here actually. I got the yellow one. The pickups are trash, but that a easy fix. I love it.
Mine just arrived and it sounds totally out of tune, even if I retune it 10 times. It is tuned standard When I put my finger on the low E in 3rd fret, its not a G its close to an G#. Same with some other strings. Anyone has experience with it? I usually only play acoustic, is it fixable?
IMO you can either try to return it/exchange it for a new one at the same shop or find a local luthier who will fix it. Sometimes setups of new guitars just suck and if you're unlucky you will experience these kind of issues
Hey there. Nice video. I wanted to ask you if you checked the California blue version? And what made you choose the red one instead? I’m in a dilemma…don’t know which one to buy. I want to look closest to what Kurt Cobain looked.
Hey, thanks! California Blue version has humbuckers so it sounds a bit different than this red one with single-coils. I never had it but it would be cool to directly compare both of these models
@@jaybee7291 The models are different. SS vs HH as well as Maple vs Indian Laurel. If being modified to match Kurt, I don't think it really matters. Out of the box, though, comparing them isn't too crazy. I'd have worded it as comparing the SS to the HH, though. Asking to compare the colors without pointing out that difference is a bit weird. Assuming there isn't a language barrier, of course.
@@bestguitarsnow thats dope! bet it had their own sound with different amps, btw, you should review the sterling cutlass ct30hss or sss! or their sterling stingray sr50! those are killers!
always like guitars under 500 why its perfect for modding i mean im not gonna mod a 1200 dollar guitar but a guitar under 500 opens things up as far as pick ups pots etc etc
Coupled with a Danelectro pedal, something crunchy and woozy, this is THE BEST setup for a late 1960's inspired garage band. Think The Stooges. All you need to do is lose a lot of weight, pretend your still eighteen, and get some ripped jeans!
@@alpinion323 It does not have the belly contour. The slab is just more traditional than the bullet was. The Sonic does have a better feeling neck, but I wouldn't be able to say that if I didn't have two of each to compare. They're both great. The primary thing I like more about the sonic is the single coils over the super hot humbuckers of the Bullet, but that's easily changed with a soldering iron and a few free minutes of time.
The contours aren't always better. Two of my early builds after I got out of luthiery school were telecaster copies. Contoured one to match my most comfortable strat, and left the other a slab that I eventually added binding too. The contoured model was so comfortable. The kid I gave it to loved it. The slab, though, just felt right. It was much harder to let that one go, and it wasn't even as pretty as the contoured model. It was a much more subjective experience with them than I expected.
I have both the Sonic, with single coil pickups and the Bullet Mustang with humbuckers. And I love them!!! I've owned several vintage Martin acoustic guitars and I've got to say that I never pick them up any more. Did I say I love these Squire Mustangs?
@@goog646 I like the humbucker version just 'casue I like the round sound of humbuckers. I play a lot of rhythm and single coils seem kinda sharp to my ear. But if you're a single string dude, single coils might be yer thang? They're cheap. Get em both! 😀

Great video super informative and helpful! I was thinking about buying this guitar and this was great insight
The Sonic Mustang HHs in Guitar Center and on Amazon now have very sharp fret ends
Good review. Thank you so much. Nice playing as well.
This sounds like heaven
Man...what is that song at the start? It sounds GORGEOUS
Thanks :)! It's not an actual song, it was just a jam that I came up with on that day
''I don't think MTV would let us play that.''

Great songs choices
Awesome review!!! Can you tell me where is the riff at 5:50 from?
Thank you! Nothing specific to be honest, just a few chords. But Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins uses the same chords in one part

Radiohead - Creep
