The people calling this abuse are the same ones that drive lifted trucks but never take them off-road. As much as I would love to keep my tractor looking new and scratch free, it's a tractor and I bought it to work.

Good timing since April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Not taking away the real awareness, but these tractors are like children to some.

Morning Courtney. Really helpful episode for us - especially newer owners. I agree. Tractors USED TO BE designed only for pulling. That is not the case anymore. They are DESIGNED and ENGINEERED to pull, push, lift and dig now. LOL - I will never forget the first time I tried to use and learn how to use a stump bucket. Yup, it was enough to make you wince. But hey, I figured it out like any other new attachment - the more you use it, the more you understand how to use it correctly. But for sure, I work mine hard too - I don't abuse it - cost me way too much money to abuse. But I make it work hard - everyday. That's why I bought it. I don't own a tractor, but my philosophy on equipment/tool use is: Quality machinery should stand up to hard use. If it doesn't then it's not a quality piece of machinery. If you pay budget prices then you get budget results. If you maintain the item properly then you're in the right.
Oh yeah.... that guy with the shiny tractor and clean garage floor treating his tractor like that old vintage car that's parked eleven months out of the year. Your right Courtney, there is a huge difference between abuse and getting the job done with common sense. Keep up the great videos... your using green and orange, not red and blue lol. My 2018 2025R has 808.6 hours on it as of yesterday, pride and maintenance tops soap n wax...

You may want to consider that most people watching don't even own a tractor or any other machine.
My lil Jonny gets the best of care. All fluids changed on time, greasing, filters, washed, waxed, etc. Even sleeps in a heated space...That said, when lil Jonny and I are out in the yard, it's time to work. It gets used for everything it was made to do. Digging, pulling, lifting, mowing, blowing, pushing on whatever terrain I need to put it in. It isn't a commercial tractor, but in my residential world it works like one. Call that abuse if you want, I call it putting a great tool to good use. Lil Jonny works and plays hard, but is well taken care of at the end of the day. If you do, that it will take great care of you. Thanks for doing what you do sir.
The loader and tractor are designed by engineers and years of experience. It will not let you lift anything that the tractor and axle is not rated for. It's not abuse. It's normal use. Keep up the good work and videos.

I have a Yanmar SA424 and it has "popped" 30+ stumps, of varying sizes and difficulty, out of the ground along with everything else I use it for. Should I use it for that? Not necessarily. Does it work wonders and save me tons of time and money when I use patience and some common sense? Absolutely. Thanks for the level-headed response and good tips to the more 'novice' users.
Ignore the haters. I have a 70 hp skid steer and stump bucket. Your use and technique and bucket was appropriate for your size of equipment. Digging stumps is a difficult task for any machine ….. you just need to work within the capabilities of the machine.
I’d never seen someone harder on tools and equipment than my father, and he had a philosophy that went something like, “They’re all tools and I ain’t in love with none of em!” Use your stuff.
Courtney they would not want to see me using the GWT stump bucket digging out limestone boulders! It handles with the ease. Still using the original cutting edge even after who knows how many boulders, lost count long ago. Have not damaged anything and I do it just like you were with the roots in your video.
Excellent point about backing up with the tractor, even pushing to much with the 3PH can cause damage. Some tractor models handle pushing with the 3PH better than others. Just be careful like you said.

Maybe you should put a new "intro" to each new video like Hollywood does, "no harm was done to these machines". I value and trust your decisions on tractors Courtney. I'm 60 years old, I hope to never get too old to learn something new. I always appreciate your videos.
After hearing all the crying about your "abuse" I'm sure glad there's no video of me working my B2601 with the backhoe to dig out 40 plus inch tree stumps. My dealer rep just shakes his head and laughed, 4 years and nothing has broken or shows excessive wear. Good operators use equipment, newbies abuse it.
The problem is people know so many things that just aren't so. Stump buckets are tougher on a loader than moving mulch but not abusive. Most tractor owners will never wear out their machine in their lifetime unless they use them commercially, so some hard use becomes less of an issue. Keep up the good work Courtney.
So, I realize that the last couple of years have been quite the challenge for some of us, and absolutely horrible for many who have had to deal with loss of family and property. I’m stunned, however, at the amount of general rudeness, hate, and complete lack of kindness that seems to be one of the worst underlying consequences of living through this whole mess. And I mean it’s EVERYWHERE!!! Unfortunately, it’s become the norm, for me anyway, to just expect to be treated poorly, and receive shitty service or product by damn near everyone I encounter these days. Folks have flat out forgotten how to be kind and pleasant while conducting their everyday routine’s. 😢 This is just a prime example of how “ready” people are to jump down someone’s throat and vent the built up frustration we are ALL experiencing. Stress is quite damaging to one’s health.
I am a heavy equipment operator. That is what I do for a living really the only abuse I see here is on the operator. Is the tractor kind of small dig some of those stumps out? Maybe, the only thing that’s really going on here is it just takes longer to do the job and has already was said when the implements are long and you’re pulling in yanking on some thing that’s when you have to worry about damaging the tractor. Like you said it is very short and stubby which helps with the leverage. Other than that nothing really wrong with what he’s doing everybody just thinks it’s abuse because of its size it really takes some work to get those stumps out of the ground.

Nice video, and I totally agree with you on what concernes the stump bucket use and other R&D built in safety features.
But I would never mount the widest wheel spacers. They are very efficient for stability but they will reduce rear axle life time by half and they do come in to our J.D. repair shop here in Belgium with leaks and premature damage.
They are comparable to what you mentioned in this video having a too long stump bucket and not having enough rod length in te cilinder. I'm not allowed to go into detail, but the axles just aren't made for this use.
We refuse warranty when we see them mounted.

I didn't read the comments from the last video but based on what you read, what do you do with a tractor? Park it in a garage or shed, polish the paint once a week and gee it sure is pretty! Don't ever use it but it looks good. Now who am I going to pay to dig out those stumps? I used to be able to do it myself but injuries and age keep me from doing this sort of labor. Oh yeah, I really would like to get the stump out before my grandkids grow up.

I agree with you 100%. These machines are just another tool we have at our disposal to perform tasks around the property. Your take on abuse verus use is spot on with how I use mine.
The largest form of abuse can be letting someone borrow it! It's a lot less nerve racking just go give them a hand and operate it yourself. I have one friend that I will allow to use my tractor, but he owns the same model as I do, he just doesn't have a backhoe. He also has operated tractors a lot longer than me. Other than that, no one is using my machine unless I am present.
AMEN! A tractor is supposed to be USED. I just dug a giant stump out of a friend's yard today with my 1025r w/front end loader and backhoe. If I could post a pic here I would. Took a little longer than a giant excavator or full sized backhoe. But it got the job done WAY faster than a shovel, spade, pickaxe, chainsaw, and an aging back. Job done!
I have a bx23s and I use my little tractor I don't spend my day waxing it. Keep up the great videos and producing new attachments.

I as a retired farmer would not say you were abusing your little lawn tractor. But definitely you are shorting its life span. I have read about those little tractors breaking in half!?!?!?
When I was farming I had a D6 CAT for the abusive work. Thats where CAT made its name.
I have a case 1494(David brown tractor with case on it) some older lady came up to the house to buy eggs from my wife and she’s talk about how abused the tractor looks because it is not kept in a garage after awhile of this I got fed up told her “if she doesn’t like it then I will gladly take all donations you have to create a place for it and fix it, until then it will continue working”
So that hd stump bucket... Getting antsy to abuse my 4 series 😉 and wondering if we'll see it in time for the dry season here in the PNW

We bought this little Stump "Wrecker" for our Kubota 2380 a year ago. In short, money well spent! It has paid for itself in work/man hours saved. (And yes, probably for Physical Therapy / Rehabilitation for pulled muscle / tissue.) And would recommend this attachment 24/7... 365! David & Jen P.S. Suggest you buy an additional sacrificial blade. For the work we have done with our mini.... I should have thought 5 years ahead and bought an extra blade (because I know / I feel it will need replacing about that time).

Good afternoon. You explained the forks scenario perfectly.
I tweaked my right side loader arm. Just forward of lift cylinder pin.
Where the plate steel is welded to the 2 square tubes hence forward of lift cylinder.
Its a Mahindra. It was my fault, not the machine, not the steel. Me the human.
So my machine is at the dealer during Spring tillage and planting. So it's going to be fill in work.
Yay me for being a bonehead.

The tractor aspca were in full force....lol. It is hard to break a tractor. But there is a right and wrong way.
As to your remark on using four wheel drive all the time I agree. Along with the wear and tear. And the front wheels being hard on the turf while mowing. I have noticed a big difference in fuel economy. Especially while mowing or running at high RPMs. At $5.50 a gallon for diesel it makes a difference. And no I wouldn't call that abuse.

I have a old tractor that was ran constantly in 4wd while not need and the 4wd will no longer work
Well after 4 years of owning a compact Kubota and being a first time owner and user, I still consider myself a novice and a learner; definitely not an expert in any way. Further my setup is a lot of money for and to me. I want this to be a lifetime investment for my family and I to make our lives easier. I am very, very respectful to my tractor. I am careful and cautious and gingerly explore its capabilities and limits to optimize the balance between conserving its capabilities and longevity against maximizing its use m efficiency, and capabilities. So, I am vigorous when I need to be but I am probably more cautious than I need to be. I do not want to have to pay for costly repairs when I do not need to. I mean I wash and wax my tractor a couple of times over the summer. Mine is almost exclusively for personal snow clearing. I can assure you that I would not have sunk in excess of $70k on my setup if I had to keep it in bubblewrap. Perhaps my perspective is invalid which I will leave for others to judge. But I agree with you. Use, but do not be cavalier about making good use of your significant investment. Excellent work and perspectives, as always, sir.

I don’t know if I’d call it abusive, but on the farm I would never use what amounts to a big garden tractor like that… especially with that small front end and axle. IIMHO, those residential compact utilities are definitely NOT built heavy…. That kind of work will eventually break it.
If you had to chop down a big tree for firewood to stay warm but you only had a hatchet, would you stay cold? No. You would use what you had, even though it would take longer. Not everyone has access to "bigger tools"

I have a twenty plus year old B7500 that, according to some people, I guess I have abused an awful lot! Funny thing is the only work on it I have ever had to do is regular maintenance…that’s it and it’s still going strong. Keep the great videos rolling!
In my opinion you were getting close to the line with that stump bucket video. I bought a JD 4310 (30-hp pto) about 15 years ago, and my abuse involved moving large stones and tree trunks. The weak link is where the quick-release loader frame meets the tractor frame. "Abuse" has spread the mount so far a couple of years ago I installed 3/16" steel plates to fill the gap that formed. In fact, JD sells a kit to do the same thing. Now, years later it is sloppy again and I'm considering going up to 1/4" plates. Poor design or abuse?
A huge abuse is having an unbalanced load in the bucket, forcing the loader frame to twist. If you can hear the loader frame moaning or popping when you lift you're doing something wrong!
I would rather see you show how to use it or what not to do and your right, they are not made to be a fancy suburban mower working 1 hour per week.
I never thought of the way you use your tractors as abuse Mr. Courtney, never. I’m rarely in 2 wheel drive because of our property. So I will need to watch out for that, thanks!
My dealer had me send many videos to him when I was first using the grapple moving logs so he could show customers various sizes of logs. One learns quickly to have enough counter weight on the little guys and not to lift excessively high for the weight. One thing to note, I had to get a new differential. It wasn’t anything I did as I’m old and low and slow is my motto nowadays. It used to click all the time and then it started clicking and jumping a wee bit. One day it felt like I was on a horse that kicked out with both hind legs to the side, not fun. Though I’d been taking it back several times, they couldn’t replicate it. This last time they called me down and in less than a minute and five feet it finally did it in front of the mechanics. Fortunately they didn’t discount where I thought the issue was just because I’m a female. There was a lot of discussion on what they thought it might be but went ahead and looked at the differential and the gears were shot! The only thing they could come up with was inaccurate installment. They’d never seen a differential on a newer tractor in the shape it was in. But It doesn’t click and buck anymore and I’m having to get used to the new sound it makes.
Great follow up video. It all comes to personal choice. Just like if you chose to wear PPE or not. We’re all grown ups and can use our equipment the way we feel needed. Keep up the good work.
Tractors are only for pulling equipment. The PTO is just for looks. Loader is just a hood ornament. Why else would they put it on it. Certainly not for lifting items or using a tiller. I pride myself on as a TH-cam critic.

I can attest to the issues that may arise with backing an implement on the three-point hitch. Using my box blade in reverse, moving a full volume of dirt, I bent the turnbuckle style stabilizer arms, not once, but twice. The first time I noticed the damage, though minor, it was a mystery as to what caused it. Live and learn. After experiencing the problem a second time, rather than repairing the turnbuckle, I opted for retrofitting the three-point hitch with the telescopic style arms, which are much more robust. The hitch, though somewhat capable in reverse use, is designed for pulling, not so much pushing.

I just bought one of your stump buckets for our school, and boy, that thing is a beast! I removed a 20-inch oak stump in about 30 minutes. Thanks for the safety tips. The only complaint I have is that there is a bit of a learning curve, but once you understand its use, it does a great job!
You kind of like a tractor Karen magnet! All you have to have is common sense when using these tractors, Its not designed for commercial use, just residential use.
Because of your videos, I got BORA wheel spacers for my VERY tippy RK21 that I lifted a wheel off the ground more than once. When I lifted BOTH left tires off the ground just hitting a small dip on sloped gound, and ALMOST went over, I got 2" spacers. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I also filled my rear tires with -20 degree winshield washer fluid beforehand that helped with the FEL, but not the tip-over danger. I also learned from another video (yours I think) to put some weight material in the FEL when using my boxblade. THANKS!!
All the videos I've watched on TH-cam I have NEVER seen one video on changing the battery in a John Deere 1025R. You have a shop, have you ever changed the battery on a 2016 1025R?

Great video Court. I’d like to ask about the GWT stump bucket. Is it possible to use that to dig out stones? Maybe up to 2-300lbs? I’m looking to level some land at my cabin. Tractor is a CK3510. I know In a perfect world an excavator would be the way to go, however I can’t justify the cost for just a few small jobs. Therefore I’m wondering what you’d recommend. I was also thinking just a set of short pallet forks. I’m sure glad I watched this video. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I have a 1994 Bobcat 453 Skid-steer that has a tool plate with side pins rather than the bottom pins of the modern tool plates. Do you make a stump bucket that will fit my 36” wide tractor?
Definitely NOT tractor abuse. I could dig some of those stumps out by hand. But that would have taken much longer than what a 1025r could do it in. Thats why I have one. An all in one “ Time Saver” on a budget. Mows lawns, moves snow, digs out a stump or 2. Possibilities are endless for the busy dudes trying to get the jobs done themselves.
Courtney, only one thing I'd change in this video. At the end, you use the much overused "Stay Safe." Try this one next time: "Be bold! Be adventurous!" LOL

I just built my own stump bucket for my 3032E and I have already used it to dig up a couple shrubs and some small tree roots that would have taken me days to do by hand !! This ain't no garage queen she's here to work !!! Love my stump bucket and it coast me $14 dollars for bolts and mounts right to my pallet fork frame !!! Thanks for the awesome videos and all the unbias reviews !!!

where you hit the front frame of the tractor on the stump. could that move the quick connect mower deck hooks on the front back to contacting the tie rod steering bar? not much clearance there to begin with? asking because I just bought a 2014 john deere 1026 and the back of those front hooks rub on the tie rod bar. how do you fix this issue? have learned so much from your vids keep up the great work
Lol. 2025r and 7 years later of abuse it runs and works hard. It's a damn tractor! Nearly 7 acres of clearing and upkeep. No bent parts, no broken b.h. all works great. What people don't know is that the machine has hydrolic designs that limit the power so not to bust stuff!
You are spot on! Every tool has a use and you are using your tools to the best of their ability! I personally appreciate your videos so I know the capabilities of my 1025r! If I see you do it I know my tractor is meant to accomplish the task! Again Brother keep doing what you do!
The front axle was getting a workout while it was lifted off the ground??? LOL There are a lot of people with a collector's mindset. I see it all over the place (equipment, guitars, knives, whiskey, etc.), where people freak out over other people who actually use what they purchase.
I hope that wasn't abuse bc I was doing that in the first few hours I had it but with my loader bucket to dig out a playground for mulch for my kids. I took out 3 foot rocks... So far so good. I was under the impression I was buying a piece of heavy equipment. A small sized piece but still heavy equipment. It hasn't disappointed me so far.

Hey Skip steer does a job of a skid steer.
A 1025R does a job of that size tracker. You know your job you know your tractor if you have a bigger job than the tractor is rated for go rent something bigger if you’re afraid of tearing something up. Sounds a lot like a lot of those people do have cars that will go real fast but they don’t know how to drive them and they crash them and tear them up. I’ve got a John Deere 1025R love it it’s a great tracker it does the job I bought it for Moe with it I have a front loader I have rear box please I have a cab on it I have a snow plow for it. I did not buy a John Deere 3350 or whatever I don’t need it. It really discussed me how some of the snowflakes will criticize people and the type of work they’re doing. Hey yes if you use beer equipment at your job good for you. But the criticize somebody that is showing you the different types of equipment the different types of application to me sounds like a snowflake. I think you would do a great job I have learned a lot from your videos and information you sure I think you very much everything you do have a great week.
Hi Courtney. Do those mirrors work really well??? Are there any type of vibration at idle, at mid range running, or even at high range running??? Im looking to put a set on my 1025R. . . . but i do not want any type of vibration at all when trying to use the mirrors, at any running/operating range!
Using a hammer pounding on a screw driver using it like a punch is abuse. These little compact tractors (mine is a JD 3320) have pleasantly surprised me as to their capabilities. Just like anything else if no common sence is used breakage will occur. I truly believe a good operator understands the limitations of all things mechanical.
Abuse I think not, Hard use maybe, A tractor is not like a Harley Davidson that is pushed out of the garage on a sunny Sunday afternoon and admired over a few cold adult beverages and never properly used. It is a tool to be used to accomplish tasks MUCH easer than by hand. Thank you for your insight and hard work.
I don’t know about beating or abusing but I work the devil out of my 1023. I bought it to work! If it breaks I fix it. I maintain the heck out of it. I do pressure wash it and wax it though. After the work is done I give it a tap and say thank you. Lol
There was one post on Facebook that a new tractor/cab owner waxed everything to perfection like a show car and actually dark, dark tinted all the windows! ??? Heck he can't see what he's doing plus it's outright dangerous!
I have a Mid-Sized truck that I bought new a few years ago that is just rolling over 80k miles (still darn new by truck standards).
She has tow maxed out trailers from the Gulf Up to the Middle East coast… an RV up and down the East Coast repeatedly… and that Same RV from the East Coast up to the Pacific NW over multiple mtn chains… down hwy 101 to The Cali Redwoods… then out to Moab, UT for some serious off-roading trails… then over all of them mtn chains and many national parks back to the East coast. I am now sitting in the mountains in Virginia in the RV actually.
I just take care of it… go slow… and keep it well within its limits.

I learned on my 4600. I did abuse it, broke things and fixed them. Glad I learned how to operate, thank you john deere, a lesser machine would have broken easier. Still have it and a new machine
I’ve said this more times than I can recall… my father-in-law has a scut with 14k hours on it, and those have been very, very hard hours. He grew up around farm equipment, and knows what is abusive and what is just hard work. Some people are just victims of analysis paralysis.
Have you ever critiqued the new Bobcat compact tractors? I'm thinking of buying one from a good friend and wonder how they stack up next to all of the tractors you talk about on your channel. I watch a lot of what you do and have learned a lot. Thanks for all of sharing your expertise.
JMO, adding that much rear ballast and carrying the weight that high is indeed abusing that tractor. Honestly that tractor has no place on developing your property when you have so many options that are commercial rated to handle the work you need accomplished to develop your property. IMO you are doing a disservice to your viewers by building up false hope that there smaller machines will hold up to service levels that require a larger machine or a commercial rated machine. I agree that turbo charging a small machine is not wise but, what you are doing with a 1025r is no different.
