“You need/don’t need this…”. Don’t let anybody or dealer what implements you need. Find what you think will help you get the job done and get it. I have both a grapple and offset flail (ditch bank) mower that I would never give up now even though both the dealer and more experienced tractor owners told me I didn’t need them. Also went larger with my tractor than I “need” but I am so glad I did. Great advice, Hank!
I have used my 4-wheel drive Kioti to pull my neighbors stuck 2WD Kubota out of the muddy fields twice this year so far. It really depends on what you are going to use your tractor for and the composition of your land. I would rather have 4 wheel drive and not need it then have a need for 4WD and not have it. I will never purchase a JD ever again. I had a 2020 with 120 hours and it was breaking down all the time. It finally caught on fire during a regen and it was a happy day watching it burn up. I am waiting for Summit to come out with the 36HP version in 2024 as I need a smaller unit for all around use. The 60 HP Kioti I now own is a bit too big for mowing around all the trees, and too tall for getting under tree branches in the woods. One other bad piece of advice I hear is purchasing too small or too big of a tractor for your needs. I have 28 acers in the piney woods of NE Texas.
I agree. I’d rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. I think Summit is offering some good features that are standard, so that will serve them well
Hey Hank, totally with ya on the 4 wheel drive. I come from a back round of farm/ field tractors and bought a RK 37 for property upkeep and firewooding and I can tell you I was sure glad my tractor was 4 wheel drive from the very first use. A lot of factors come into play with the compact utility tractors like tire style, size, wheel base and weight. I may start out trying to work in 2 wheel drive but it's usually not long I find myself engaging the 4 wheel especially doing loader and grapple work. But if I'm brush hogging I never have had a need for 4 wheel drive. I guess it depends a lot on your property and your use, but after owning one of these tractors for a couple of years now I wouldn't even think about a 2 wheel drive model. Not to mention if you ever plan on upgrading or just getting something different I think you'll have a harder time trading in or selling the 2 wheel drive tractor.
@@hhamilton1970 Like I always say, having one of these great tractors in 2 wheel drive would be like being a one legged man in an ass kick'in contest. Have a good day, love your channel.
😅Bought my first tractor in 2010 was told by a Christmas tree farmer buy Kubota but the costs were crazy same with Deere ended up with a used TYM 353 that was used by TYM, 110 hours saved over 10000 on a new one. Never had a problem with it traded it in 14 years later for almost 50% of what I paid needed up with a new 574 cab with backhoe and front loader 3rd function.
@@richardenlighten2906 I'm going on 3 years with mine, trouble free and I can tell you I'm still just as happy as the day I brought it home. I looked at all of the big name offering's before I made my choice and I can tell you the only thing they had on TYM at the time was dealer concentration. I at this point haven't had any need for that at this point but the stores mechanic is my neighbor and He is a legit ag mechanic and in the last year or so a somewhat local ag dealership has started handling TYM's. I have ran green and orange tractors in the past and I still wouldn't trade. I do like the kubota's but not the price and as far as Deer, your just paying for something that's just not what it used to be.
Amen on the 4WD recommendation. In addition to the added capability, try reselling a 2WD machine. As far as "color" goes, of equal or perhaps more importance is the dealer with whom you affiliate.
Good advice. I looked at Green, Orange, Orange of a different mother, blue, and red tractors. I settled on a TYM 574HC that I'll be picking up this fall. I already ordered my 1st implement that being a leveling box to help me service my 1200+ foot gravel driveway. Once we get possession of our new house (building should be done this fall), it's tractor time 🙂
@@frankmoreau8847 The TYM T574 comes with 2 rear remotes as standard equipment. Your thoughts on installing a side remote as well to tilt the box from side to side?
I agree with everything you said. I have a Massey Ferguson 1835E. I have 120 hours on it and have only had 2 regen. cycles. I use the four wheel drive all the time. It gives extra traction when the rear R4 tires would spin. Even had to use it this weekend when using my box blade. One of the things I like about mine is that the skid steer quick attachment on the loader is standard. Big green and big orange either have a proprietary quick attachment or require an accessory skid steer quick attachment. I'm happy as can be with my red tractor.
The anti pollution stuff on American tractors seems to be counter productive. Advice is to run the engines at high RPM and hot all the time would mean the engine is consuming more fuel. How is this saving the environment? These anti pollution systems need more resources to manufacture and fit. How is this saving the environment? Fortunately in Australia tractors don’t come with DPF filters and crap like that. My 52 HP Kubota tractor bought new in 2021 doesn’t have any unnecessary expensive cans under the bonnet.
I agreed mostly with what you said. However, I wish you had approached the discussion from the viewpoint of dealer competence and dealer proximity to the purchaser. The regen issue is a problem in the green and blue(LS) tractors. Others not so much if ran "hot". But there are other issues with all tractors nowadays, and that's electrical, serviceability (competence) by dealer, and poor design of certain functions on the tractors, i.e., air conditioning and the like. There are too many relays and computer issues to contend with, and dealers aren't fully trained well enough to repair.
I've got six JD and four Kubota dealers within an hour of my place. I had one Branson dealer 4 miles away back when they were a thing but that dealer didn't call me back. If they don't care about selling, what they going to do for service? Kubota couldn't bother to walk outside while I was walking on their lot. Green walked out and then called me a few times and I ended up with a green tractor.
Hello, Hank, my fellow brother-in-Christ. I agree w/all. The color doesn't matter. Know what you intend to use it for and get what you can afford from a dealer that you are comfortable having a relationship with. Mahindra has NO DPF or REGEN on its tractors. I don't know how they make 'em, but it's in a way that the CARB/EPA emission requirements are met w/o the added things that other makers have to use. Yes, newer tractors have some really nice work saving features, creature comforts, and designs that make using them easier. Just because you have a 4WD tractor doesn't mean you have to keep it in 4WD to use it. I only put mine in 4WD when I need the tractor to get a better grip, and if it didn't have 4WD, I'd either be stuck, or that would be work I simply couldn't do. You are doing a great job, Hank. : )
Mahindra uses Catalytic convertor instead of DPF. Either Green or Orange is coming out with a similar system. Some people just hate DPF, but they forget that Catalytic convertors were hated first. I would argue DPF without DEF is a simpler design. Common rail diesel engines also use less fuel, don't smoke as bad, and start easier.
Totally agree with you Hank. I don't have anything against John Deere or Kubota, but they are overpriced in comparison to other brands. I would put my Massey Ferguson 1740M up against either one of their comparable class tractors. It all boils down to the dealer service and support and the availability of parts, regardless of the brand.
I agree 100% ! You’ll never hear a guy say I wished I had got the two wheel drive model instead ! Love the 4x4 feature even on my little BX ! Get-R-Done ! Have a Blessed Day
I think the dumbest thing about telling people to only buy green or orange is both those lines compact tractors are made as second-line product by the smaller companies. Some assemblies and components on Kubotas are made in japan but the _finished_ equipment made in Japan is almost only used in Japan. They make super-compact paddy transplanters, rice harvesters, spraying equipment, tillage equipment, micro-excavators, run-abouts (side by and single dumps). TBDH I wouldn't buy anything JD below 75hp stock and smaller than 55hp Kubota. If you don't actually NEED a compact tractor and have room for a loader you can find quite a lot of older model New Holland and JD stuff thats largely repairable with off-the-shelf aftermarket and a wire brush. Now I won't say that Mahindra are bad as such but don't pressure-wash em or let it rain on them or run them through mud. The problem with using 3rd world wiring and connectors is they're 3rd world wiring and connectors.
DO NOT let your salesman talk you out of attachments, implements, or add-on kits. I let my dealer talk me out of the 3rd function kit for my tractor....when I had it added earlier this year it cost me twice what it would have when I ordered the tractor. 4WD, yep, buy it, even if you only use it a few times, it'll pay for itself, not to mention the added value in resell later or even trade-in value. With the differential lock and 4WD it helps quite a bit...not saying you won't get stuck with 4WD, but it can sure help keep you from getting stuck in many cases. Don't buy a brand name just because your buddy or your neighbor has one. Buy what fits you. If you aren't comfortable using that tractor, or even sitting in the seat, why waste money on it, you'll find excuses to not use it after you buy it just purely based on being uncomfortable. Don't buy a certain brand just because they're the closest dealer. Find a dealer and salesman you like and can work well with because you are inevitably going to need them again in the future when you want more toys...err I mean attachments/implements. I bought my tractor at a terrible time...during the height of the COVID BS. I waited a month to get my tractor, not everything came in, after a year I finally had my salesman get me a refund on the mower deck, and went down the road to the other dealer and got my mower deck. Pallet forks, he couldn't get them, still hasn't gotten them, so I ordered a set from Messick's paid dearly for the shipping though, but have them and have used them a lot...wish I would have gotten a grapple too. Be sure whatever you are going to do with your tractor that it will fit in that area and be able to be maneuvered....as cool as a 100HP tractor sounds, if ya can't fit it into your yard what good is it at that point.
100% agree I would add one. I had people tell me I didn’t need the size tractor that I was looking at buying because I didn’t have enough property. I think it depends on what you’re doing with the tractor.
Thanks for another great video Hank. Enjoyable content. You are right Hank about the pros and cons of tractors. Determine what you need your tractor to do and then go from there. Agree with going with four wheel drive. Two wheel drive presents too many issues so to speak. Suggest going four wheel drive. Determine what you need for accessories also. Lots to study before you buy. Shop around also. Go where you have good customer service also. Important item. Thanks Hank for doing this video and pointing people in the direction. You take care and be safe. Thanks for everything Hank. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.
I agree. I was planning on buying a new tractor. However I came across a great deal on a Kioti CK25 with 430 hours that I was told it only was used to move trailers around. I've put 20 hours on it and still loving it.
I agree with you, I own a Kubota but I would never tell somebody to only chose between orange or green. They're great tractors but I believe it's preference and each tractor is different so you have to find what works for you. I don't have a problem with newer tractors either, to me it's just not to big of a deal but others may disagree. Great video Hank, should be very helpful for potential buyers!
Totally agree. Just bought a new Branson/TYM 5835r. The comfort of the seat, operator station, power shuttle, quieter engine, 4wd, 3 point controls all made the tractor experience so much better after mowing about 10 acres with it. I really noticed the difference when I got off of the new one and got right onto my Dad’s older Deere 5410. It was like I was saddling up a dinosaur.
Agree on all 3 points, green and orange consistently cost a third to half more for the equivalent machine, and yes, if you run your engine in torque rise and not lug it it will last longer and run cleaner, and finally I have myself had traction "oopsies" where i just reached down and engaged 4wd to the count of 10 that otherwise would have required calling in another piece of equipment to get unstuck. I've only used 4wd perhaps a total of 2 hours of the tractor's life so far, but those 2 hours prevented how many days of equipment recovery? And as I said, all at the pull of a lever.
The dpf system came into the trucking industry ahead of farming and I think the bugs were worked out pretty much by the time it reached the farming world, and yes, they were quite problematic in the beginning. The next step was the def fluid which everyone has lost their mind over isn't that big a deal other the added expense of the fluid by the way I find of stinks during regens. But for the most part regens generally happen while the vehicle is being run, it occasionally happens when stopped but you can keep using it just don't shut the engine off just let it do it's thing it usually doesn't take that long. I like to keep running the equipment during regens to get the most out of the fuel it's using during the cycle. Good advice on tractor brands and 4-wheel drive, buy what you think will work best for you. Although having a good reputable local dealer that stands behind what they sell can be something to consider when it comes to parts availability and repairs if needed.
I drove a dump truck with a DPF and wasn't afraid of them. It seems as though there were some problems when they were first applied to tractors. Personally, I think they had them all figured out by about 2017, but the horror stories from the first years linger. I keep mine working during a regen except during fire season, then I take it out of the tall grass and park it on a gravel road while it does its thing.
I agree with you for the most part. I bought a John Deere as my first tractor mainly because of the dealer proximity to me. I now own 2 of them as well as a 1979 Ford 3600 that I use all the time on my property here in Florida. My only regrets... while I like my Deere tractors, the only thing that I don't like is that the loader is proprietary unlike most every other tractor make out there. I also run a skid steer and it would be nice to be able to share implements between it and my tractors. My other regret is not getting a cabbed tractor. As you know, it gets hot and humid here in Florida and having A/C would sure be nice.
I have a New Holland Boomer 50 that is 16 months old and I am approaching my 300 hour service before the end of the summer (275 hrs. now). Zero problems, but I do run mine at 2200 rpm or more. With an HST, you treat it like you would a skid steer or a mini excavator. Run it fast enough for the hydraulic pump to efficiently move oil. I get a regen about every 25 to 40 hours, but I think the near zero temps when moving snow adds frequency. I would have a hard time finding a CUT that is 2 wheel drive. I usually use mine in two wheel, but 4 is nice when you need it. I heard about the how Kubota treated the owners of the B3350 a few years ago and crossed Orange off my list, and I thought $4000 for green paint was a bit much.
We have 6 L3301 kubotas at my work place ...the L3301 is a good tractor but the fwd -rev switches go bad .....the regen system works on commercial trucks but on farm tractors its a nuisance
I had a tractor picked out but the dealer tried to talk me into a small one for what I wanted to do with it. I believe in getting a size bigger than what you think you need. A friend told me to buy a cab tractor but I only plan to use it every once in awhile so I don't feel the need to spend the extra thousands of dollars for it.
I lived in Florida for 11 years and it is where I bought my LS tractor. I lived between fort Myers and lake okeechobee in a dink of a city called Alva. So at that time my LS tractor was about 5 miles away. Oh there were John Deere dealer not too far away and Kubota dealer close by but they treated me like crap, so I made my decision on that. It's a 2014 no emissions and now they don't make that model, no big deal can still buy parts. Now I live in Missouri and the dealer isn't too far away. And they sell LS and TYM very nice looking tractor. I've been retired since the end of 2010 and at the first of the year my wife will retire. So my tractor has to be the only one I will have. People say to me oh you have a blue tractor it should be an orange Kubota, what ever. And as far as I do things is to buy new, not someone else's problem.
Great points Hank. I would add one thing to the new vs old. If you are going to be using the tractor several hours every day, new maybe a better option. But if the tractor is going to have limited use, than used maybe a better option.
My 1st tractor was a new holland and around here was perfectly acceptable as well as Massey, case and zetor. Now, all there is left here is green or orange, that's all the choice there is. Lots of good tractors out there but as some others have said that a dependable dealer can make a difference. I do like the tym but I have no dealers close to me.
I've ran and owned green my whole life. Recently, I had a chance to use an orange tractor and hated it My T474 will be delivered at the end of the week. Tym offers everything you have to pay extra for with a green tractor. I was really impressed and truly hope the future proves I made the right choice
I agree with the advice you gave. I purchased a new 4 WD John Deere. For me I looked at the local dealers, it is green and orange only. I would say how you and the dealer get along. I had one dealer that acted like I was a problem being there and asking questions. I went to another dealer and we interacted great and there was no pressure. I choose green due to that is what is local for me.
All solid points in your video. As for the regen, yours probably did it while you were working and you never knew because of how you use yours. I knew when my RK55 needed it cause I got the dash light. I was also running the engine as low a RPM as possible cause no one told me to keep the revs above 1800RPMs. Did 2 stationary Regens and all great now.
One example. I had a John Deere garden tractor that had a Kawasaki engine. The ignitor chip went bad. It's about the size of a postage stamp and costs close to a hundred dollars. Will NOT start or run without it. My Ford 2000, I can rob a condenser off of something else and be back and running in a few minutes.
Tractors have come a long ways over the years, Clutch free operation, 4 wheel drive more standardized, along with loaders plumbed in and not using the rear ports to run them.
About 6 years ago, I went to Lowe’s and bought a John Deere riding mowwr, at the time we had 1 fenced acre, it’s main job was mowing the lawn, but there other occasional chores, spraying weeds, moving mulch in a trailer, a bag of concrete here and there, basically a all around multi-use garden tractor. 100 hundred hours on it the rear end went out !! 100 hours, yes it has a hour meter, I took it to my local John Deere dealer, he charged me $600 to service it and said it had a bad bushing, got it home still didn’t have enough power to mow the lawn, this is a $3500 riding lawnmower with 100 hours on it, so we tore into it, discovered the rear end was gone !!!! To buy a rear end from John Deere was $1500 !!! Are you kidding me !! The neighbor man went to looking online and found one in Illinois for $600 we bought it put it in, mower is as good as new !!! But it will be the last green tractor on my property!!! The John Deere dealer customer service sucked, he raped me before he robbed me, then he Lied to me, then he blamed me for abusing the mower !! His explanation was I put the wrong fuel in it which tore the rear end out, what the HELL is he talking about ? Today have 3 acres and a badboy zero turn, that is a monster of a mower !! Mows 3 acres in about an hour, I Use a utility vehicle moving brush and spraying, setting up for party and such, when the UTV is paid for I plan to buy a TYM 2540 to use around the property.
I agree with you 💯% you should pick on your needs and what you can afford, the color doesn't make the tractor , they all have their perks and down falls, enjoy your channel keep them coming 👍😁
Like the old saying goes."Nobody ever wishes they got a smaller tractor instead of bigger". I believe the same thing goes when it comes to tractor color. I have never heard anyone that has a Geen or Orange tractor say they regret it and wish they would have purchased an LS or Rural King or other cheaper tractor instead.
Resale value is higher on green or orange tractors. I started with a green 755, then a 955, and now a cabbed 4720. It's nice mowing in ac, also no dust and less noise.
Summit doesn't make tractors. They are importing tractors built by ITL. The Solis tractors also made by ITL. The problem with them is lack of a dealer network.
So I guess a couple things. The first just buy green or orange. The fact is Kubota and JD have some of the best dealer support in the country but with that said my concern with products like tym kiote, mahindara is they haven’t had much in the way of stable dealers over the years. They are all new to US markets with an uncertainty of how stable they are in US markets. But if you have a dealer that has those brands and has been selling them for years you are probably ok. But where I am we have a case dealer ship about 45 min away 4 jd dealers with in a 1/2 hr and a bobcat dealer about 20 min away which just switched from being a kubota dealer a year or two ago. Everything else is a hour min from my location. The dpf is definitely a weak point on newer tractors but it has gotten better. And 2wheel dive tractors do have some befits over 4 wheel drive like less maintenance
For small tractors, yes you need 4x4. By small I mean 100hp and under. When you start getting into larger farm tractors that your going to use for tillage and planting field work, a good 2wd, with duels is sometimes better.
I bought 2 used Kubota tractors because the price was right and I knew both the owners and I knew how they treated their equipment and I have been happy with both tractors but if I had bought new I would have had them set up a little different from the dealer like 3rd function and a second set of remotes on the back. I know this is off the topic of what you mentioned but I hate the exaggerations of the loader lift capacities of some tractor manufacturers if someone new to the tractor game is looking they might not understand the lift capacity at the pins verse out on the forks or the bucket or any attachments for the loader and if they are banking on that tractor doing a job they might be misled which I guess they need to do a lot of research themselves for such an expensive investment "Toy" because tractors can be fun but I knew what I was looking for because I've been working with tractors since I was 9 years old and I'm 37 this year
As an Ag mechanic for 35+ years. If you get a loader on your new/used tractor get the rear tires loaded with liquid ( ballast) it is a safety thing trust me !we use & recommend (Rim Guard) brand .4x4 is also important on a compact tractor ,it just makes the tractor preform better and resale is far greater . The last thing, the name brand tractors hold there value better & re/sell faster John Deere, ,Kubota ,NewHolland ,Massey Ferguson !
Years ago the dealer i worked for decided to try and sell tym and had to start out with 5 tractors. Then the importer, distributot or whatever you want to call them decided to get out of the business. Well then tym set up a new distributor for usa. The new one would not support the old inventory with financing or rebates and would not take them back or transfer them to another dealer. My boss got stuck with them and finally sold, give them away, way below cost just to get rid of them. Product support can stop at a moments notice on your off brand imports. By the way, driving your tym 250 hours , doesnt make youn an expert on compact tractors. Take on a dealership an run it 10 years or so then you might be qualified to be giving advice.
The difference in 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive is this: With 2 wheel drive, you can drive out into a field and get stuck. With a 4 wheel drive you drive WAYYY out in a field and get stuck.
TYM bought Branson. The factor peeps should keep in mind is the availability of service and parts. TYM is a good machine but their dealer network is really weak
@@hhamilton1970 Stronger than ever does not necessarily mean strong. You may have a strong dealer network in your area but there are several states without a single dealer. Colorado only has one for instance. Thats my point. Dont go too far from home when shopping for a tractor. Check your local area for dealers especially when shopping used.
Agree 💯 Hank. 2WD or other that didnt make your list is buying a tractor without a front end loader. I think is a mistake as well. Thinking you wont need it, or you think you got a good deal and you can add an FEL later . Well thats never a good idea in my opinion. Why? Cause I've done it. 😂
Hey you need to go around and look at all the tractors see if you can find the best deal in town don't stop at the first one you look at shop around and see what kind of trusses that got you might do a better price with other dealers
I wish I watched your video before I bought my tractor. I love my Massey Ferguson 1825e and although I love my machine I wish that I wasn’t scared by EPA hardware on the machines with higher HP. If I had to do it over I think I would go with the same size tractor just with 35-40hp.
When we were looking for a sub compact tractor we looked at more then orange and green. After looking the green was physically to big for what we needed. The 3 reds and 2 blues we looked at didn't seam to have the quality or as heavily built as the kubota bx23s. Yes, we were looking for a tlb and not wanting a lawnmower with a frontend loader. So on the sub compacts kubota had what fit our needs the best. Looking at compacts 35hp up to about 48hp we haven't really looked that closely. We do have a l3830 that was bought used because I personally don't like the new emissions crap. The little bit older kubota grand L's have a heavier frame a frontend loader. I personally don't like the kubota plan L tractors they are lighter built the the grand l tractors. So yes we saved some money and got a tractor that is able to handle our needs. Would I tell someone that they need to buy Orange or green over other brands, no. I think everyone needs to fond the tractor that they a comfortable with regardless of brand. Implements on the other hand I do recommend both used and new. If its something you're not going to use much or are very unsure of but want to tryout buy used if you can find good used Implements at a good price buy them over new. Things I do recommend is on frontend loader. Figure what you think you'll need then find one that will lift more. So if you think you need it to only lift a 1000lbs try and find one that will lift 1300lbs at least. Most new tractor owners forget about the attachments weight needing to be subtracted or how for out the weight will be. PTO hp most new tractor owners don't really understand. I always recommend checking the pto hp and what they are wanting ( tiller, brush cutter and etc hp ratings). I always recommend not being on the bottom end of the rating for Implements needed or wanted. Just because it said pto hp 25 to 40 hp don't mean a 25 hp pto will run it really well. In this case I recommend at least a 30 to 35hp pto so it will work better. Just because kubota is works for me don't mean it's the best for you. I would definitely look at tym is I was looking at a new compact tractor. I would probably skip over john deere. There are a few other brands I would look at also. Where I live orange and green are the top sellers, but other colors are definitely sold and used. Dealer support is definitely a big buying point. Some dealers just want to sell it to you and then drop you on your head once they have there money. Sorry for such a long comment.
They don’t make em like they used too…. To correct you the modern tractors weigh LESS than the older tractors on a hp to weight ratio test. My issue with new tractors is all the computer control. I constantly have sensor trouble on newer tractors. In my opinion tractors made in 2003 or earlier are the best value out there. After 2003 everyone went crazy with emissions and CPU control. It’s just wrong for a tractor to de-rate power because an exhaust sensor is giving a false reading and force you to stop and take it to a dealer to have it worked on because if you touch it it voids your warranty. Complete bullshit! I just bought a 140hp Massey Ferguson tractor at plus $100,000 dollar price tag and it’s already been back to the dealer twice with emission sensor issues. Simply put the more systems you put in place you are just asking for trouble. I agree that 4WD is a must have item. As far as brands preferred for me it’s case, new Holland or anything AGCO makes like Massey or Fendt.
With regen/DPF and DEF it is not the issue of if the thing will fail but when the thing will fail. ALL tractor / truck manufactures have issues with these new emissions The regen and DEF systems have pushed the tractor prices up a bunch and you pay up front for this " government mandated EPA down your throat " but when it does fail, and it will you pay again. So the only way to halfway avoid the double cost per your advice is to trade often and always have warranty to bail you out. Yes I am 68 years old but if you shop enough you can find these older pre-emission tractors with low hours and yes you will pay a premium but it won't be sitting in the shop waiting for a $3000+ DPF filter or worse. Your tractor is very unique that it has been 250 hrs without a regen. May your luck continue.
I prefer an older, non computerized, mechanical tractor that parts are still obtainable for. I despise being broke down because I need a simple sensor has gone bad.
The older tractors would stick on the hills better then these new tractor. I have older and new tractor. 4000 , 7710, 8000 Ford, older 165 massey and new 2607h massey Ferguson, 2018 john deere. So I've had several different types of tractors. Yes there are things I like about the newer tractors.
I like Kubota. Its made by them. If Kubota is in business you will have support. Some outsourced tractors may be hard to fix if the relationship between manufacturer and brand dissolve. I hate dpf systems, nothing but a hassle. My M7060 Kubota regens all the time. When I use it for loader work you can NOT rev the piss out of it,,,,,, its a manual tranny,,, no hydro in big tractors.
I myself I like them all 😊 and I own a JD but I tell my friends who are interested in buying a tractor, I tell them go out to the dealers and look and get which one you like and fits your needs, and a good dealer makes the difference and iam 2 miles from my JD dealer and awesome dealership, I absolutely love TYM and Love to have one with a Cab 😍 and Iam subscribed to youtube channels has JD and Kubota and TYM and LS and Mahindra and others, I myself just love tractors and wish I had one of every brand lol 😝 love your channel hank invite me down and put me to work in your TYM 😊
First time viewer awesome video I am a first time tractor owner I bought a badboy 1025h because it just fits my needs don’t have a ton of land your feelings on my purchase
My 40 gross hp Kioti needs 4x drive to dig more easily in my dirt piles. YMMV. Regen most likely keeps the price of newer compact tractors more affordable. My tractor has gone to regen 3 times in 2.years of ownership. I wasn't running.hot enough while grappling trees. Buy a tractor from a dealer that you can establish a.good working relationship with cuz tractors just like parts-thats the way it is. Don't buy any tractor if you don't like to use basic mechanic skills to at least the tractor correctly lubed and oiled. I can give you advice today but I very likely could have.dofferent advice 2.months from now especially if I'm frustrated with my tractor at the time. Using tractors is a learned skill depending on things on your land that I cannot see or understand.
I live in hill county, not flat land, did you ever see a two wheel drive going down a steep hill with one wheel turning backwards and landing on a stone fence? Four wheel drive dig in and hold, I believe that the first part of this story ended with a change of underwear,
That the worst thing government could have done to us tractor owners. I did buy one had that regin on it that was the worst tractor ever and it was a Deere. I sold that tractor with in the year.
4 wheel drive on a compact tractor would be a good thing but I have run mid size tractors for years that are two wheel drive, never had issues getting stuck but I also have differential lock on all of them. If your buying new yeah I would probably get 4 wheel drive, but I just don't buy new I also don't buy very old, late 60's is the the oldest I own all the way to the late 80's, reason? I can still do all the work myself , I don't have to take it to a dealer, most of your older tractors from that era are much heavier, and seem to be more stable on hilly ground as well, just a personnel preference with my experience in farming. I am not particular on brands but I do prefer Deere Ford or newer internationals (mid 80's) I have only one tractor with a loader my reasoning is a front end loader hangs out their almost 70% of the time so to say in the way, and only use 30% so the ability to have only one tractor use for loader work is awesome. I am not against the new small compact tractor, they just don't fit my needs on the farm.
Color or emblems don't mean anything if your dealer sucks. It isn't just the purchase, you'll be back for implements, attachments, parts, add-ons, lubricants, etc. If your treated poorly initially you won't find that it gets any better with time....find a dealer you like first, who cares about brand at that point.
For compact tractors you dont really pay for the tractor but more for the service you get with it and atleast in my experience rn john deere is the best with Massey and kubota right after i dont have experience with other compact tractor brand to say much about them but those 3 if you have a dealership near you there the best for service rn Secondly regens and dps is fine and on my tractor if its working in the high rpms or even just cruising around my property it tells me its doing a regen but i dont notice it it performs the same so its not the end of the world if you have a tractor with dps or a regen system Thirdly the only reason you want a 2 wheel drive tractor is if you have a really big and heavy tractor but for compact tractors never ever get a 2x4 always get a 4x4
worst advice is "buy more tractor than you need." Then you have no money left for implements/attachments. That's like going tool shopping with a $500 budget and buying a $400 hammer. I'd rather have less tractor and more attachments all day every day
Dpf and regen is GARBAGE! it doesn’t really do much. Of course I’ve been around older tractors that don’t have it and yes, I do taste diesel every so often because of it. I do cough a lot but it’s less hassle! My IH bus has dpf and regen and it’s annoying!
Nothing under 50 hp is U.S. made at least tym and kioti and ls are at least put together in the USA. South Korea is great place stuff is made well and will run long.
Good dealer close is very important A lot of tractors are world tractors with universal motors and transmissions and hydraulic systems Just pick and choose. Like MF
▶️ THe BEST advice here: th-cam.com/video/5D6qROa2lSU/w-d-xo.html
“You need/don’t need this…”. Don’t let anybody or dealer what implements you need. Find what you think will help you get the job done and get it. I have both a grapple and offset flail (ditch bank) mower that I would never give up now even though both the dealer and more experienced tractor owners told me I didn’t need them. Also went larger with my tractor than I “need” but I am so glad I did. Great advice, Hank!
Right on. Thanks for the comment 👍
Good points👍👍
As far as "color" goes, of equal or perhaps more importance is the dealer with whom you affiliate.
this is true!
Good advice. I looked at Green, Orange, Orange of a different mother, blue, and red tractors. I settled on a TYM 574HC that I'll be picking up this fall. I already ordered my 1st implement that being a leveling box to help me service my 1200+ foot gravel driveway. Once we get possession of our new house (building should be done this fall), it's tractor time 🙂
You’re gonna love it! Nice choice. Thanks for the comment
I hope it comes with rear remotes. A hydraulic top-link comes in very handy especially with a box blade or a land plane
They are nice tractors
The anti pollution stuff on American tractors seems to be counter productive. Advice is to run the engines at high RPM and hot all the time would mean the engine is consuming more fuel. How is this saving the environment? These anti pollution systems need more resources to manufacture and fit. How is this saving the environment?
Fortunately in Australia tractors don’t come with DPF filters and crap like that. My 52 HP Kubota tractor bought new in 2021 doesn’t have any unnecessary expensive cans under the bonnet.
Yeah, the extra stuff seems to be a lot of “hot air” as we say
Dealer interaction is definitely a factor👍
Thank you sir
Mahindra uses Catalytic convertor instead of DPF. Either Green or Orange is coming out with a similar system. Some people just hate DPF, but they forget that Catalytic convertors were hated first. I would argue DPF without DEF is a simpler design. Common rail diesel engines also use less fuel, don't smoke as bad, and start easier.
For extra advice, I was told if you think you need a rear remotes, get 2. That worked fine, but now I need a front one..😁
Good point
Totally agree with you Hank. I don't have anything against John Deere or Kubota, but they are overpriced in comparison to other brands. I would put my Massey Ferguson 1740M up against either one of their comparable class tractors. It all boils down to the dealer service and support and the availability of parts, regardless of the brand.
Right on
I agree 100% ! You’ll never hear a guy say I wished I had got the two wheel drive model instead ! Love the 4x4 feature even on my little BX ! Get-R-Done ! Have a Blessed Day
Thank you!
HAHA, the BX wouldn't be very useful without the 4WD when it comes to loader work and for ground engaging attachments.
Good points👍
100% agree I would add one. I had people tell me I didn’t need the size tractor that I was looking at buying because I didn’t have enough property. I think it depends on what you’re doing with the tractor.
For sure!
I too live in Florida. 4 wheel drive is a must. I wish I had a 6 wheel drive!
Lol. I hear ya
Steve.
Thank you Mr Steve. I always enjoy reading your comments
Good advice I look at green orange and Branson . I went with the one that had what I was looking for and 12,000.00 plus cheaper 2515R Branson.
Right on
I agree. I was planning on buying a new tractor. However I came across a great deal on a Kioti CK25 with 430 hours that I was told it only was used to move trailers around. I've put 20 hours on it and still loving it.
Cool!
Thank you!
TIL that tractors come in more colors than green and orange. This TH-cam thing is amazing! Tractor Hard! 🚜💪!
👍😁
Totally agree. Just bought a new Branson/TYM 5835r. The comfort of the seat, operator station, power shuttle, quieter engine, 4wd, 3 point controls all made the tractor experience so much better after mowing about 10 acres with it. I really noticed the difference when I got off of the new one and got right onto my Dad’s older Deere 5410. It was like I was saddling up a dinosaur.
Right on
Agree on all 3 points, green and orange consistently cost a third to half more for the equivalent machine, and yes, if you run your engine in torque rise and not lug it it will last longer and run cleaner, and finally I have myself had traction "oopsies" where i just reached down and engaged 4wd to the count of 10 that otherwise would have required calling in another piece of equipment to get unstuck.
👍
👍
I run mine in 2WD most of the time as well. Thanks for the comment
We have 6 L3301 kubotas at my work place ...the L3301 is a good tractor but the fwd -rev switches go bad .....the regen system works on commercial trucks but on farm tractors its a nuisance
Right on
I had a tractor picked out but the dealer tried to talk me into a small one for what I wanted to do with it. I believe in getting a size bigger than what you think you need. A friend told me to buy a cab tractor but I only plan to use it every once in awhile so I don't feel the need to spend the extra thousands of dollars for it.
Right on. A cab sure is nice here in the Florida heat😊👍
Good point👍
My 1st tractor was a new holland and around here was perfectly acceptable as well as Massey, case and zetor. Now, all there is left here is green or orange, that's all the choice there is. Lots of good tractors out there but as some others have said that a dependable dealer can make a difference. I do like the tym but I have no dealers close to me.
Yeah it really does make all the difference 👍
I've ran and owned green my whole life.
Recently, I had a chance to use an orange tractor and hated it
My T474 will be delivered at the end of the week.
Tym offers everything you have to pay extra for with a green tractor. I was really impressed and truly hope the future proves I made the right choice
Mine has been awesome 👍 good luck. I'm sure you'll love it
I agree with the advice you gave.
👍👍
All solid points in your video. As for the regen, yours probably did it while you were working and you never knew because of how you use yours.
I knew when my RK55 needed it cause I got the dash light. I was also running the engine as low a RPM as possible cause no one told me to keep the revs above 1800RPMs.
Did 2 stationary Regens and all great now.
thanks for the comment!
Right on
Tractors have come a long ways over the years, Clutch free operation, 4 wheel drive more standardized, along with loaders plumbed in and not using the rear ports to run them.
For sure
Local dealer is the key no matter what color it is. That green paint is mighty expensive but also well made. Sometimes ya get what ya pay for.
that's true
I bought green. Deutz Fahr 5080D. No DPF or DEF. Nice tractor but not many dealers but I was lucky to have one close by.
They are nice!
Mows 3 acres in about an hour, I
Use a utility vehicle moving brush and spraying, setting up for party and such, when the UTV is paid for I plan to buy a TYM 2540 to use around the property.
I agree with you 💯% you should pick on your needs and what you can afford, the color doesn't make the tractor , they all have their perks and down falls, enjoy your channel keep them coming 👍😁
Thank you
Like the old saying goes."Nobody ever wishes they got a smaller tractor instead of bigger". I believe the same thing goes when it comes to tractor color. I have never heard anyone that has a Geen or Orange tractor say they regret it and wish they would have purchased an LS or Rural King or other cheaper tractor instead.
👍
Resale value is higher on green or orange tractors. I started with a green 755, then a 955, and now a cabbed 4720. It's nice mowing in ac, also no dust and less noise.
Summit doesn't make tractors. They are importing tractors built by ITL. The Solis tractors also made by ITL. The problem with them is lack of a dealer network.
You’re right
I have an RK (made by TYM) and Love it it has a lot of power for a 37 hp tractor!! No issues so far 2 years in.
I service it myself.
Nice 👍
For ground-engaging work, 4WD gets more power to the ground than 2WD.
Indeed
For small tractors, yes you need 4x4. By small I mean 100hp and under. When you start getting into larger farm tractors that your going to use for tillage and planting field work, a good 2wd, with duels is sometimes better.
Yeah good point. I’m not familiar with the big ag stuff
good luck finding a tractor above 100 hp that's not 4wd...
I bought 2 used Kubota tractors because the price was right and I knew both the owners and I knew how they treated their equipment and I have been happy with both tractors but if I had bought new I would have had them set up a little different from the dealer like 3rd function and a second set of remotes on the back. I know this is off the topic of what you mentioned but I hate the exaggerations of the loader lift capacities of some tractor manufacturers if someone new to the tractor game is looking they might not understand the lift capacity at the pins verse out on the forks or the bucket or any attachments for the loader and if they are banking on that tractor doing a job they might be misled which I guess they need to do a lot of research themselves for such an expensive investment "Toy" because tractors can be fun but I knew what I was looking for because I've been working with tractors since I was 9 years old and I'm 37 this year
right on
As an Ag mechanic for 35+ years. If you get a loader on your new/used tractor get the rear tires loaded with liquid ( ballast) it is a safety thing trust me !we use & recommend (Rim Guard) brand .4x4 is also important on a compact tractor ,it just makes the tractor preform better and resale is far greater . The last thing, the name brand tractors hold there value better & re/sell faster John Deere, ,Kubota ,NewHolland ,Massey Ferguson !
loaded tires are a must for sure!
Lol. People like you crack me up
go two sizes bigger than you think you need
I hear ya
Ask the wife!!!
i feel you're absolutely right, I own a massey and feel it's as good as anything out there. I've owned older fords and a few other tractors.
Right on!
The difference in 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive is this: With 2 wheel drive, you can drive out into a field and get stuck. With a 4 wheel drive you drive WAYYY out in a field and get stuck.
😂
Great points Hank. Totally agree on all.
Thank you
TYM bought Branson. The factor peeps should keep in mind is the availability of service and parts. TYM is a good machine but their dealer network is really weak
Not really …their dealer network is actually stronger than ever
Ultimately. You do what you can afford..🇺🇲
that's right
Just an after thought, if you want to sell your tractor, color does seem to make a difference.
Hey you need to go around and look at all the tractors see if you can find the best deal in town don't stop at the first one you look at shop around and see what kind of trusses that got you might do a better price with other dealers
👍👍
I wish I watched your video before I bought my tractor. I love my Massey Ferguson 1825e and although I love my machine I wish that I wasn’t scared by EPA hardware on the machines with higher HP. If I had to do it over I think I would go with the same size tractor just with 35-40hp.
👍
It’s all good. Good stuff. I appreciate the comment👍
I hear ya. But yet they call it progress, right?
I prefer an older, non computerized, mechanical tractor that parts are still obtainable for. I despise being broke down because I need a simple sensor has gone bad.
Yeah that is true.
Right on. 👍
👍
Yes a 4 wheel drive is a plus you got to have 4 wheels drive. My first tractor was not . Sold it just to have that 4 wheel.
👍
Great advice!! I love my Mahindra 4x4
I hear ya!
First time viewer awesome video I am a first time tractor owner I bought a badboy 1025h because it just fits my needs don’t have a ton of land your feelings on my purchase
That's a good tractor
Buy the color tractor that is closest to you so you can get easy service.
Using tractors is a learned skill depending on things on your land that I cannot see or understand.
thanks for the comment
I live in hill county, not flat land, did you ever see a two wheel drive going down a steep hill with one wheel turning backwards and landing on a stone fence? Four wheel drive dig in and hold, I believe that the first part of this story ended with a change of underwear,
That’s right
That the worst thing government could have done to us tractor owners. I did buy one had that regin on it that was the worst tractor ever and it was a Deere. I sold that tractor with in the year.
I hear ya
If you're buying new buy what you want. If used go with John Deere if for nothing else parts support.
Our fleet of 15 newer trucks constantly breakdown, all because of the def/emmissions garbage
i go with what easyer to get parts for , i think all tractors are great it just how long does it take me to get a part to fix my tractor.
That’s right!
Right on
that there T574 sure is one fine tractor, id take that over a KU-BOATER that is half the size for the same money. if fact i did i have a T494 2022
Right on
Nothing dies like a deere.
Lol
Color or emblems don't mean anything if your dealer sucks. It isn't just the purchase, you'll be back for implements, attachments, parts, add-ons, lubricants, etc. If your treated poorly initially you won't find that it gets any better with time....find a dealer you like first, who cares about brand at that point.
That’s right!
For compact tractors you dont really pay for the tractor but more for the service you get with it and atleast in my experience rn john deere is the best with Massey and kubota right after i dont have experience with other compact tractor brand to say much about them but those 3 if you have a dealership near you there the best for service rn
Secondly regens and dps is fine and on my tractor if its working in the high rpms or even just cruising around my property it tells me its doing a regen but i dont notice it it performs the same so its not the end of the world if you have a tractor with dps or a regen system
Thirdly the only reason you want a 2 wheel drive tractor is if you have a really big and heavy tractor but for compact tractors never ever get a 2x4 always get a 4x4
Good stuff
I am sure some of the viewers have said this already but
4WD if for nothing but for resale value
😁👍🔧
worst advice is "buy more tractor than you need." Then you have no money left for implements/attachments. That's like going tool shopping with a $500 budget and buying a $400 hammer. I'd rather have less tractor and more attachments all day every day
Good point
I like kioti, and the the TYM you get more for your buck.
What is DPF and Reach In?
Diesel particulate filter .... and I assume you mean "regen". Which means the machines burns out the soot in the DPF.
No idle no emissions equipment issues. Run them hard!
👍
Dpf and regen is GARBAGE! it doesn’t really do much. Of course I’ve been around older tractors that don’t have it and yes, I do taste diesel every so often because of it. I do cough a lot but it’s less hassle! My IH bus has dpf and regen and it’s annoying!
Can buy new without DEF IT HP SIZE where it kicks in on newer tractors
True
I think if you do get a two-wheel drive he sure it has a differential differential lock.
that's right
I will never buy a orange tractor ever again and I am not the only person to say this.. They do not last like the green r the blue or red tractors
What ever unit u have used and are happy with it then stick to it
👍
I have a fifty two twenty branson tractor I took that cadillac murder off just ran it straight pipe
Nothing under 50 hp is U.S. made at least tym and kioti and ls are at least put together in the USA. South Korea is great place stuff is made well and will run long.
👍👍
The best piece of advice is: buy what you want! Thanks for the video from a Kubota owner……
Indeed
Good dealer close is very important
A lot of tractors are world tractors with universal motors and transmissions and hydraulic systems
Just pick and choose. Like MF
I dont agree with your 4x4 advise 2 wheel is just as good i have a loader i can get out of any thing you can with 4x4 drive
Again tire are not all that depends where you going use tractor 98% of the time
Love my New Holland!
Nice tractors for sure
