    That is such a great story at the end. I'm a huge fan of High Fidelity and hearing about how Frears got that performance out of Jack Black is cooler than any DVD extra.

    Still LOVE this part of the conversation. I feel Jack Black watching his "audience" get yelled at was all over his face TO that "audience"...that said, "...sorry i got you yelled at, i'm gonna now ROCK this friggin' place and blow my director's MIND with my ROCK." 🌱

    I've watched about 94584787 of these now (lol), and I gotta say that I super appreciate the unedited cuts so much more than the edited. If you're interviewing someone and editing what they say, it's like you're taking away a little bit of their essence. I don't want the watered down version of someone I dig, I want to see all of them. So this one made me happy.

    By Frears yelling at the crowd and not Black, he motivated the actor to really go for it in order to make it easy for the audience to react with enthusiasm. Jack felt responsible for their scolding and needed to make up for it. Genius move.

    • @thereisnospace
      @thereisnospace 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also i mean if you think about it hes not just acting hes really on stage and singing. and if the audience doesnt embrace it he will feel insecure because at that time he was not much known as a musician but an actor so he wanted the audience to make him feel like a rockstar so he could deliver.
      The motives only Frears knows but either way it worked. My eyebrows went WAY up that was the movie that made me a hard Jables fan :)

    Veja só, eu não sabia que a mudança da música para Let´s get it on, foi feita no fim do filme. Pra mim me pareceu uma escolha óbvia do roteiro, já que o personagem do Cusack diz ser uma das melhores faixas do Marvin Gaye várias as vezes, até mesmo quando conversa com a Laura já no terço final do filme e eles estão juntos. Tanto que eu sempre pensei que o Jack Black cantar a música no fim, foi algo "armado" pela Laura e pelo Barry pra homenagear o personagem do Cusack na sua festa!
    Enfim, só uma opinião!
    Gosto muito desse canal, e abraços do Brasil!

    3:20 Jack is talking about Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit "Got To Give It Up" that was the subject of a copyright infringement by Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke with their 2013 release "Blurred Lines." The court ruled in favor of Marvin Gaye's estate and future royalties from the song would have to be split 50/50. "Got To Give It Up" is the song Jack didn't want to perform as early drafts of the script indicated, so they went with "Let's Get It On" instead.

      Yeah but singing a solo is such a vulnerable thing, I can totally see him shutting down from that. Whereas if you get yelled at in a crowd you get to share that shame or embarrassment with the group. It's not great, but it's diffused a bit. Maybe that's bs but I sympathize with Jack lol.
