That is such a great story at the end. I'm a huge fan of High Fidelity and hearing about how Frears got that performance out of Jack Black is cooler than any DVD extra.
It’s so refreshing to see this real side of Jack Black with him being a big comedic star
Jack gives me chills every time i watch HF, awesome performance, awesome ending.
The Monday morning mix tape is one of my favourite movie scenes of all time.
The sign of a good director, when he knows how to get the best out of an actor, even when they doubt themselves.
"I need to fuckin' get it on..." LMAO Jack Black is the greatest.
Still LOVE this part of the conversation. I feel Jack Black watching his "audience" get yelled at was all over his face TO that "audience"...that said, "...sorry i got you yelled at, i'm gonna now ROCK this friggin' place and blow my director's MIND with my ROCK." 🌱
Kathleen Turner Overdrive.
High Fidelity was one of the few book to movie adaptations that I felt were comprabale. Great book great movie and great performance by Jack.
Thanks for telling TH-cam that you read books
@@johnkneip1932 I know right? Shampoo bottles all the way!
It’s not comparable, but I’m glad somebody thinks it is, somehow
Jack Blacks version of high fidelity deserves to be on “guardians of the galaxy 1 mix tape”.
I've watched about 94584787 of these now (lol), and I gotta say that I super appreciate the unedited cuts so much more than the edited. If you're interviewing someone and editing what they say, it's like you're taking away a little bit of their essence. I don't want the watered down version of someone I dig, I want to see all of them. So this one made me happy.
That is an awesome scene, it really puts the cap on the film. It's also when I discovered Jack could really sing, I loved it
I was waiting for that scene in the series... but I guess they had to ñeave at least ine scene from thd movie, for the second season. Which never came.
These interviews are legendary
High Fidelity is in my top five favorite flicks.
I see what you did there.
High Fidelity - one of my top 5 favorite comedy movies!
Jack's career has been well deserved...Just saw that Marvin Gaye part in another video...AMAZING! ...Thanks for this upload...This was the Realist Jack interview I've seen.
“Rob, we’re called Sonic Death Monkey. And if Laura and her bourgeois lawyer friends can’t handle it, fuck them. Let ‘em riot. We’re Sonic Fucking Death Monkey!”
One of the all time greatest lines. Words to live by.
to this day i still sometimes say "let 'em riot"
Still think Kathleen Turner Overdrive was an awesome band name.
Yeah, how did they ever come up with combining two names like that?
Yeah, how did they ever come up with combining two names like that?
Sonic Death Monkey! 🤘🤘🤘
That’s because it is an awesome band name.
Yeah i lost it on that one, prob because i grew up in Canada..
When my cat died I drove around crying and listening to Jack Black singing "Lets Get It On" over and over.
James Tisdale that’s a female you’re speaking to, loser. Fuck off
That face jack makes at 2:47
hes incredibly uncomfortable hearing praise about himself
+msfattytroll no he's not... he loves it
Looks like his normal face to me
the uwu face
JACK BLACK is fantastic!
Such a great, great series!
One of the BEST. MOVIES. EVER. 🍿
But read the book first if you get the chance.
Fantastic work sir thanks for sharing
I loved that movie. Jack did amazing in it!
Adore the movie, and am lucky enough to have a signed hard back of the novel!
Film and book are in my -respective- top tens!
I could listen to Jack Black all day (and Sam Jones is a fantastic interviewer).
I would love to see the first lukewarm rendition that everyone got yelled at for. 'Cause the one that made it into the movie is Gold!
Perfect question I always wondered about that.
What a likeable man.
By Frears yelling at the crowd and not Black, he motivated the actor to really go for it in order to make it easy for the audience to react with enthusiasm. Jack felt responsible for their scolding and needed to make up for it. Genius move.
also i mean if you think about it hes not just acting hes really on stage and singing. and if the audience doesnt embrace it he will feel insecure because at that time he was not much known as a musician but an actor so he wanted the audience to make him feel like a rockstar so he could deliver.
The motives only Frears knows but either way it worked. My eyebrows went WAY up that was the movie that made me a hard Jables fan :)
love him
Black was great in this, best parts in the movie...right up there with his role as the abandoned love interest of Cloris Leachman in The Office and singing (while wiping his tears) his dedication to Sister Encarnacion song in Nacho Libre...
Many consider this the film where Jack Black became Jack Effing Black.
Uhh, excuse me, have you seen The Jackal!? Lol, jk
@@ballisticcranberrypeat7777 I've seen Airborne, his first film. You can see the dawn of JFB in that POS
Have you seen Mr Show S1E2?
X Files anyone...? 😂
Do they? I thought it was butt baby.
These are nice. Good stuff
LMFAO I always Wondered about this scene so much. Brutal Warlock Powers
Brutal Warlock Powers, also a good band name😂
this man is amazing!
appreciate his honesty.
Amazing insight into direction
Man I love Jack Black.
Fantastic Story in the end , looking in Ireland 🇮🇪
Jack Black-what a force of nature! So talented-great voice.
Great Story
The first time I saw HF, I literally had to remember that they were all just acting, because to me it just felt like it was just a day that JB, JC, and TL just took over a record store. I was in LA last month and after touring Paramount, I was stunned to actually being able to shake Jack Black's hand as I told the writers that I supported their efforts. I was too nervous to ask for a selfie.
THE breakout performance
Cool! That movie wouldn't have made it without Jack Black in it!
Great movie.
3:46 yes. 😄
lmao 5:15 warlock powers
Nice one
That’s so funny. I do shit like that. Every time I have crazy nerves or something I start saying the weirdest shit to balance myself out
For once he’s not over the top and I kinda love it.
Same. I love Jack Black and all of his silliness, but I really enjoyed seeing him be serious as well.
thanks for the laughs
NEED TO FUCKING GET IT ON!
I love jack black 😂
Just like Ricky Nelson, holding on to our heart strings.....
2:46 when you don't pull out in time
Amazing scene - and something you can only see for the first time once.
I know. I keep wishing I could not know ahead of time just once more!
Yeah, that kind of is how it goes, Yogi Berra.
Was the vocal sung live during filming (not in a studio and then lip synched on set)?
Got To Give It Up would probably make more sense at a club, wouldn't it?
John Cusack in High Fidelity was being Ronn Benway... discuss:
All of the fucking way
High Fidelity is one of the greatest movies ever made. Not kidding.
Definitley in the top 500
lmfaooo it's such a litmus test movie -- if a guy says he loves it, you automatically know everything you need to know about him
All-time classic guy film ! ------------------------------------------WolfSky9
I thought I had read that it actually wasn’t Jack singing that song, that it had been dubbed by another singer. Anyone know?
hear him sing anything, tenacious d, those lines, he sings all the time! it's him! he may overdubbed it in studio, but it was his voice
It's 100% him, he's a great singer
3:20 Jack is talking about Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit "Got To Give It Up" that was the subject of a copyright infringement by Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke with their 2013 release "Blurred Lines." The court ruled in favor of Marvin Gaye's estate and future royalties from the song would have to be split 50/50. "Got To Give It Up" is the song Jack didn't want to perform as early drafts of the script indicated, so they went with "Let's Get It On" instead.
They definitely should not have won that court case smh terrible music copyright precedent
Yeah, this was an awesome story, but can we just watch the complete interview, please?? TH-cam has to figure out a different way to monetize so that every piece of content isn't split into 2-minute (6 in this case) videos. I don't use Auto Play, and I like to consume a full piece when I'm watching something. Am I crazy? That shit is driving me nuts.
High Fidelity's is a perfect movie perfect casting amazing script the ol saying they don't make movies like this anymore.. as I kid I liked marvel comic books now Marvel is the big enemy for all things not allowing fresh ideas anymore
He cranked it to ELEVEN. See the other guys go to 10....but he can got to ELEVEN!
(Jack Black understands this reference)
Happy 20th Anniversary of High Fidelity!

I wonder if Sam has Jack’s attention or not at 2:45...
1:18 hand on the sole of his shoes. No handshake, thank you.
3:25 JESUS CHRIST IT'S GOT TO GIVE IT UP aka THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIME
EVERYONE INVOLVED SHOULD BE FIRED
Sorry meant version of let’s get it on.
Never yell at the actors because they'll go into their shell. Instead scream at the extras to vent your anger because they are disposable and motivate the slacking actor in the process to get his shit together...sad but still true.
Yeah but singing a solo is such a vulnerable thing, I can totally see him shutting down from that. Whereas if you get yelled at in a crowd you get to share that shame or embarrassment with the group. It's not great, but it's diffused a bit. Maybe that's bs but I sympathize with Jack lol.
Yo, really? Background actors want to be respected, too.
It looks meme worthy. Lol.
That's the shit they should teach at film school.
loooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooooooooooooo
Tats not Sam jones
"Warlock powers".......excuse me, I have to go listen to some Probot real quick...
Deep cut. I love it
Roll the dice by Charles Bukowski
My respect for Jack just went up a bunch
He was miscast (or poorly directed) in King Kong and that pissed me off
He was literally yelling at the crowd. It’s a movie; they should be jazzed even if you are reading a phone book
Sam Jones goes all of the fucking way at 1:32 with a question that takes him 1 minute and 24 seconds to spit out.
Do you think Jack Black wore the same outfit at Sam Jones on purpose?😂
Like, can we like say like anymore than like these guys?
Sam Jones, what a putz. Lol
Great directors are brilliant manipulators.
He's playing the teacher of School of Rock in this interview.
Hmmm... Jack Black could play the Joker with that face.
No dude. Acting. Even if you were terrible, the ACTORS in the audience were supposed to ACT like it was the best thing they'd ever fucking seen. Self-doubt sucks but it motivates I guess.
Lol he should have been directing this because you just took a shit on Jack Blacks ending to his story lol
Helloooo White People, its " Got to Give it Up " by Marvin Gaye!!!
I get the same untalented vibe from him and Seymour Hoffman; though I admire the work of both at times
I was about to lose interest in watching this. The interviewer is talking WAY too much.
"The only way to get to know something new is to listen to others talk."
Gomer Pyle Driver.
Yo shut up man, he killed himself today
Where are the wonderful women?
isn't jack black supposed to talk more than the host?
I hate how this show focuses on the interviewer more than the one being interviewed
Hey will you take a half of a decade of my life so you can reject me formally to a strict script which denies the reality of your waste every resource you touch?
wha?
"High Fidelity" is a fantastic movie in every way except for that end scene. Over edited and every edit seemed forced and out of place. No good close-ups and "Let's get it on" has been done way better .... Now that Jack Black showed what could be done but local garage band, nowadays beats that song with a stick.
I'm sorry, but making this in Black and White is so pretentious. LOL C'mon. That doesn't elevate your material.
p.s. Jack Black was fucking genius in High Fidelity.
