Hej Jonas. This is my recipe for these engines: B234 Turbo block with the pistons and rods. I don't machine the pistons, but use a T5 cylinder head gasket. I use Goetze rings, the best for these pistons. T7 cyl head with both T5 camshafts. It works great. For the balance shaft delete, I machined all the plugs myself. Unfortunately don't remember dimensions. Don't forget the plug for the inner bushing. I press the end plug, press the bushing out and press the plug in with a pressure tolerance of around .25 mm. The T5 block is identical for the 9000 and NG 900, and you can use any 9-5 accessories on it. In the cylinder head, you might take a plug out for a temperature sensor. I like red. I paint the block after honing and let it sit down about a month for the paint to cure. Any leak is detected easily. One of these engine I built this way is my daily NG900. 300 hp, 500 nm, 6 years, almost 160,000 km, middle eastern heat (sometimes 47 Celsius) and never loses a pulse. Keep up with your great videos, they are super.
You made that look easy, I had to remove the sprockets then punch them rearwards through the core plugs, Then back through the front to remove the caps. (they had already been turned twice with grips and heated. I used SAS for my kit. When you put this back together, chop the bottom off the left guide you removed, round it off and refit it, it's a spacer to stop the timing chain guide moving. you can also use the shafts to push the inner blanks in before driving them home with a socket and extension, (they will push the shells out the back too so you need new core plugs )
Hello Jonas ! When i did my B204 rebuild, I bought balance shaft delete kit from Trust performance. Good quality, comes with delete plate for tensioner.
Love your videos! You are the guy that makes me want to buy a 9-5 and build it to make some power instead of my rusty old 9-3 aero coupe, keep up the good work!
Great work, I worked on my own Saab there over the weekend small job but saved a trip to the mechanic, 7 days wait time and few hundred euros. Thanks for the great vids Jonas 🤘💯
Just looked it up because thought hang on the Vauxhall calibra was 4x4 and turns out it used the the gm2900 with a revised epsilon platform 👍 did think the solstice/sky was the parts used but I’d be thinking the calibra would be the euro parts Saab prototype will have tested with 👌
I just purchased a 900 se from a buddy for 2 grand. 60 thousand miles. Rust free, a little oil leak from valve cover. Im glad i found your video. Im more used to working on toyotas and hondas. Ive read a bot of history on saa b but still with to learn more. So answer this if you can. Although the 1998 900 se was built on a gm chassis is yhe engine still a "real" saab engine?
Balance shaft delete kit, I got mine from Patrik Lantz, great kit and works awesome! Here's on every Saab forum there is and everywhere on Facebook that's Saab related 🤣
Hi Jonas, painting the engine silver can look a bit cheap in my opinion, have you thought of painting it white? Any oil or coolant leaks will show up really well and the contrast between the white engine block, the polished aluminium rocker cover and the black hoses will make it look fantastic (but you might want to check with the missus first!)😁
Hi. In the 90ties, I bought my first Saab in Tokyo. A 9000cs Talladega red , turbocharger , probably the same you ll try to fit in . Amazing power and huge luggage trunk. Fun to drive. When I saw your engine, it brought back fond memories !!!! By the way, I wonder why Scandinavian Rally drivers are one of the best. Any reason? I m very fond of rallies. Look forward to more videos!
Cool story 👌 i bet a 9000cs talladega is very very rare in Tokyo nowadays 😉 I think nordic rally drivers are more born into it then other, often grown up on The country side and many of them has been driving cars before you are aloud to. But Its ok as long as you stay on private property 😉
Saab extremely rare. My friend in Tokyo has a 96 v4 with Ford engine. I envy him. Now a drive a Suzuki Swift RS with has AUT & Manual transmission. I always choose M/T when driving alone , my Geisha uses the Automatic. By the way, most new cars in Scandinavia are with A/T or still manual. In Japan, 99 per cent of cars are sold with A/T. What makes it more fun to drive , in your opinion ?
Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry to bother you with my stupid question questions. One more : how about air conditioner in the car ? Rather rare? In Japan, impossible to survive without A/C on due to the muggy summer. I ve had 2 Saabs in my life, some issues with the electric devices. Is that common for Saab?
Hi from Australia! Literally rebuilding 9-5 aero at the momentt also...keeping b235 but still trying to decide on wossner pistons...$$$. Lots of degreasing. Might fabricate header. We'll see. Great vids thanks!
Hi Jonas congratulations for your most big project. I have a question for you, why eliminate the balance shafts on a longitudinally mounted engine? After you don't risk having too many vibrations?
Hey Jonas what are you going to do with the sump to prevent oil surge? ( Also building a RWD Saab engine car) What machining has to be done to the pistons to fit the T7 head?
1,1mm machining on The top of the piston in order to be running the t7 head gasket. Im not so far in to the build yet, depends on what i decide to do with The steeringrack
@@JonasKakarikas ill send some photos of my build on Facebook later. Haven't got near it in a while but come endo of the racing season ill get it moving and finished before Christmas.
Why not to use whole b234 block? B234 block have thicker side walls, and overall is much stronger than B235. After all you can mount T7 head on T5 block. I don't see reason why not to do it.
@@JonasKakarikas From first minutes of your video I've concluded that you will use T7 block and T7 head and machine T5 pistons. At the end of video I've realised what you are about to do with that block ;) .
Tjena Jonas. Om det inte är jäkligt bråttom fixar jag balansaxel delet kitt. Jag har semester denna och två veckor till sedan kan jag fixa det du behöver. Skickar pm på messenger.

Awesome 👌 if you have access to T5 engine its a Great budget alternative 😎
Wonderful video. 🙏🙏❤️
I always wondered if one could cut the balance shaft housings off the engine block as long as one leaves all the threaded mounting connections?
If you are going to keep The balanceshafts you could just remove the chain, remove the tensioner and plug the oilfeed for the tensioner 👍
T5 blocks are much stiffer then T7 blocks, especially MY 98 and 99. They weigh 7 kg more.
Hi Jonas congratulations for your most big project. I have a question for you, why eliminate the balance shafts on a longitudinally mounted engine? After you don't risk having too many vibrations?
Not too necessary anyway, and the reduction in rotating mass will be similar to lightening a flywheel.

I make it a bit different. No machining, and using a T5 cylinder head gasket. Several engines, one with almost 160,000 km w/o any problem.
