To be honest they can add Kopa into the Lion King canon no problem. They clearly don't mind retcons like the Lion Guard or the magic roar, so why not add Kopa's story as the reason Simba was over protective of Kiara. Now with Disney Plus they can go a little more in depth and mature with stories and ideas. They can make it so Zira 'killed' Kopa when in actuality he was still alive but taken downstream in a nearby river, he's healed by someone but has amnesia with the exception of his name. They could make a Lion King 3 with Kopa's return as an adult, not sure on the antagonist but they could something with it. Maybe make it so Simba sacrifices himself to save Kopa, making him a parallel to Mufasa. The difference being he got to see his children grow to be mature adults during life, something taken from Mufasa by Scar. Kopa is offered the king title but refuses since he's still kinda new to the Pridelands technically. Also Kopa and Vitani get together, the story potential is too high to pass up.

Found it! I can clearly see Kopa in that card. The card game is made by Parker Brothers and licensed by Disney but we don't know if the manufacturer got the characters from Six New Adventures or if Disney gave them the guidelines. Very interesting point btw. Very few people noticed it.
I say Zira did kill Kopa in cold blood. Cause that pretty much explains why Simba was so overprotective of Kiara and hates Zira & the Outsiders (aside from the fact that they’re Scar’s followers)

Problem is, that whole Zira killed Kopa and get banished theory were explained in the lion guard, that she was banned for attacking simba, and it is official canon. So no Kopa, only Kiara and Kion. Bad storywriting anyway that kion roars them into the termite hills, after Kovu met Kiara first time.
The scene where Zira offers Kovu to Simba DOES have a reason behind it. It’s made pretty obvious that trespassing into the Pridelands results in death, which is exactly what Zira and Kovu were doing at that time, and Zira stood up for Kovu because he didn’t know, but knowing how adamant Simba is with tradition and punishment, she offered up Kovu anyway to see if he would really do it, even though she knew he absolutely could not
4:55- We do know why Zira offered Kovu's life to Simba in TLK 2. Right before this Simba told Zira, "You know the penalty for returning to the Pride Lands!" Zira replies with, "But the _child_ does *NOT* ! However, if you need your pound of flesh, here". She pushes Kovu towards Simba to offer Kovu's life. This is the penalty, death. That's why she does that. She knew Simba wouldn't kill a young cub.
Id wish kopa was Canon because it would explain simbas protectivness over kiara also it could mean why he hated zira so much since she would killed kopa But I also wanna see kopa survive and become maybe the leader of the jungle? Or leader of a new pride called the Backlanders?
I think Kopa is canon, they just never mentioned or shown him. The cub at the end of the first movie was definitely not Kiara or Kion. My theory, is that Kopa survived Zira's attack, but lost his memory in the process, remembering only his name. Maybe he didn't recognize the mark but met kion anyway. Unless Kopa eventually did remember and no longer wanted anything to do with his past. Deciding it was better if everyone thought him dead. The pridelands wouldn't need him because of future queen Kiara, plus no longer feeling like he belonged there anymore. Who knows?

im 4 years late but man i gotta tell you there isnt gonna be another 2d LK movie like the old ones. Kids these days dont apreciate the aesthetic of the old movies and just want better graphics (example is Lion Guard or you know the 3d ones , i mean common man). This theory is probably wrong, and doesn’t fit very much with the story, but I just thought of it. Kopa was exploring one day, and he saw Vitani. He was skeptical of her at first, but she was very nice and funny, so he played with her. Nuka saw Vitani playing with Kopa, and he feared for her safety, because he knew Kopa was the son of Simba, and if Simba found out, he might kill her. (I feel like Vitani and Nuka has a very strong sibling bond.) So, he scared Kopa off by growling at him. Vitani was angry at him for a while, but soon she understood it was for her safety. One day, she saw Kopa again, and they talked. Nuka saw this, but he didn’t want to get in a fight with Vitani again, so he ran to get Zira. Kopa was telling Vitani that the outlanders were wrong, and he was trying to get her to come with him to the pridelands. Zira got angry when Vitani said she would think about it, so she intervened, roaring at Kopa. Simba heard what was going on, but when he got to where Kopa was, it was too late. Simba told Zira if she or any of her pride came back to the pridelands again, there would be trouble. Zira went back home with Vitani and Nuka. Vitani got angry at Nuka again and when Zira brought Kovu into the outlands, Vitani played with him a lot, often ignoring Nuka. But Kopa was jut in a coma, and he was still alive. He was scared, so he ran away from the pridelands. One day, he came back to the pridelands. But Nuka saw him. He was angry that Kopa was still alive, and had come back. The fought, and Nuka won, killing Kopa.
Vita your theory is almost correct but Simba never found Kopa and when Zira attacked Simba she told him she killed Kopa just to make him suffer. The last thing you got wrong is Nuka killing Kopa because Nuka was already dead when Kopa returned.
sedulous01 no theory is correct, or wrong. In my head cannon, Simba and Nala never found Kopa when he returned to the pridelands, because Nuka had already killed him. This is just my head cannon. Nothing is wrong about it, and nothing is wrong about yours.
Well that basically adds up aside from nuka... the way he is in TLK 2 is cold and dismissive to anyone but mother. He is nothing but semi obediant to vitani - or snarky and dismissive to her. so if anything she'd say DONT u DARE TELL MOTHER! grr and hed be like PSSH...oh i wont. Actually kopas death would explain a lot of things about Simba's attitude and parenting style the death of a child is extremely traumatic for a parent and will make them more protective of their living children also it would explain his hatred for the outlanders and why they were excelled to the worst part of the pride lands
The Story of Kopa is awesome and would drive me to tears if shown as it is known, but I am sure Disney will never do that. It is way too brutal and traumatizing to think Disney would release it. If they release it, they would change it so much, that it isn't the same anymore.

Its not canon unfortunately, even though Kopa was apart of the stories, the stories where not 100% disney just signed by them. As for why it was diffrent, Lion king 2 wasent even being thought about at the time. So it just simply wasent planned.
Kopa is not canon! Yes, Simba and Nala's cub at the end of the original movie is clearly male, and at the end of the novelization of the remake, it says Simba's son, but Simba's cub is female- Kiara

I have a book that tells the lion king 1 story and at the end when rafki got the cub it says “for joy as the future lion KING joined the great circle of life” but that could just say that because this movie is called the lion king and so is the second movie

The ending of Lion King and the opening of Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, The newborn cub(s) are exactly the same, there was a shadow in the first pictures Askari showed of Kiara. Now, with the Kopa theories, the only way to figure out if Kopa really existed in Lion King 2: Simba’s pride, is if you try and connect the book, Six New Adventures, with the film makers of Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride. The Lion King 2, if it wasn’t planned, we’ll never know the answer. So, to all of the Lion King fans, I would just enjoy the movie’s and Lion Guard Episodes.

I dont think there ever was a Kopa to begin with. Just because they drew the lion cub with a little hair on the head in the first movie doesnt mean that its a male. Its pretty obvious that its been Kiara from the beginning, only that they didn't decide on the gender in the first movie and when they decided it was to be a female they changed Kiaras looks without the hair on her head. There was never a Kopa it was just made up by fans. And simba is so protective of her because he knows Kiara is like him and is bound to get herself into danger like he did when he got hunted by the hyenas and when he lost his father and thought it was his fault.
fun facts: Originally the child at the end of 1st movie was a boy cub they dubbed "Fuzzy or fluffy" till they found a name for him. I'm assuming between that time the "Authorized fanfictions" (spin off stories we read)'s creator decided to name "fuzzy" kopa and make stories up about him. But disney scrapped fuzzy and made kiara. (as its originally intended to be lion KING not queen, but guess they wanted to be inclusive and focus on romeo and juliet story - very loved and popular back in the day - a bit cliche` now.) which makes perfect sense considering the first ones based off those two princes and their struggling kingdom if i recall (and i believe they had a tyranical father? one is believed to be killed but escaped down a river or something...my memories bad and i may not have heard the best/right story.) "simba, the river!" (little hints ya never thought about everywhere in these things...goes to show how much planning and smarts it really does take to create a legit loved story than just a basic script and end point.) well anyways... fans never let go of the whole kopa thing and many believe zira did something to him and thats why everyone that followed scar was banished and why simba is still hateful for long of the other lions. cuz nowhere do u really see a dispute within the lionesess atleast onscreen..and even near the end its like everyones in peace and harmony but maybe as time goes on after all that - the lioneses that followed scar become more and more unhappy howthings work, like not getting to eat /hunt as they see fit. and zira just being purely inlove and obsessed and manipulated by scar - probably raised to do so. ALSO .......how does ADULT nala know YOUNG VITANI!? it'd be one thing if they were cubs together during scars rule but vitani was maybe about a year old in TLK 2 so thats literally impossible. it would have to been zira. "where's your pretty daughter, NALAAA?"~ " VITANI!" - vitani is literally never seen or heard of by the other lions on screen previously. How would they have known what her name was let alone she exists? the lions of ziras tribe had to been exiled well within a year or two. Most likely just before vitanis birth. Nuka might have been about vitanis age at the time. as he himself is still practically a child during the whole thing. so about 1 yr old. 2 yrs when vitani and kiara are 1-1+1/2 yrs. the belief is that kopa and vitani (as cubs? 0.o) were pals and kinda ((or would have)) grown up to "have a thing" - and maybe vitani was geniune (perhaps showed it in the wrong ways, always getting kopa into trouble and such)) and zira found out and or got tired of it and ceased an end, perhaps her madness and rage grew over time,during different events...and thus..she did something about it. thats not to say kopa was nessicarily killed (maybe he was the one who bit her ear off , as it is quite small, i feel a bigger lion could have done way more damage) and took off to run and hide got lost never returned etc. but may be out there somewhere... others say he left after a certain point of age but nah. but..then again. this all now ties into the lion guard just a bit albeit not perfectly. I believe disney saw how well recieved kopa was and the desire for simbas son. so they took ideas of kopa and like guys come on its obvious even the name is similar K O P A / K I O N. They couldn't have really named Kopa kopa because they really arent the ones who made the books - they basically let some fangirl do it legally under their agreements - and marketed it. now they probably had every legal ability to do so but taking from others is frowned about and disney wants to hide they do that at all costs (fun fact: kimba came out way before simba/tlk i believe) and maybe outta respect and controversy and then some. and or maybe they just decided kion was more fitting?. who knows. but in retrospect KION IS KOPA he just has new name, and was made born AFTER kiara (i think?) rather than before. And im pretty there is still hints of friendship between him and vitani...or something? i have to rewatch to be certain.
actually wait i remembered something "Hand chosen by scar" perhaps vitani could have been recently born and zira with child of (another lions) cub - kovu. and scar says (probably near the end just before the fight breaks out - as nala has left so scratch that potential idea he wanetd) along the lines of "Zirra....>:) i believe you will birth a powerful male heir, and should he be know he is my chosen one." bla bla.. but its also more likely kovu was already in existence atleast JUST before "The end" (simbas return) for scar to have seen/found him or etc and "chose him" i kinda forgot about that for a split moment. but its still also possible what i said before hand as well, either way though this would suggest vitani WAS indeed born , atleast just before the exile....then again maybe he just said the first male child like me thats strong you have is my chosen heir. and zira just concoted cuz kovu fit that bill scar chose him. anythings possible, but what is more likely. the timelines dont really add up if they were all born during scars rule - as kovu and kiara are literally nearly the same age and shes not really born till after scars rule and that would take how ever long it takes to concieve and bear a child for lions. (possibly 9mo if they're making them "human like") so almost a year. (mating is shown/suggested in can u feel the love) but not nessicariily - and even so doesnt mean that first time will conceive a child. sometimes it takes multiple tries for various reasons. All in all disney's lion king has SO many plot holes and questions left to be desirably answered @_@' its quite bugging yet it works cuz it keeps us seeking more and more haha
I give the lion King two time lines, legends and Canon (kind of like star wars) Canon is the official timeline of the lion King films and the lion guard TV series. While legends is expanded universe content created by the fans before the lion guard show came out. So I would consider kopa to be legends but could be made Canon in the future
I think Disney someway include Kopa in its canon, because many of novelizations of the original story say that the first born is a male. In the audio description of "Lion King" in Disney Plus, the new born cub is described as a newborn prince, not a princess, so Kopa is someway included in Lion King Canon

Kopa is Semi-Canon. So, technically, that would make Kopa still part of Canon, just on one half as defined by what Semi means. If the ones who directed The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride are not going to add Kopa into Canon and Disney, then someone else will have to, so that Kopa can have the kind of place in the Canon part of The Lion King Franchise that he deserves. It can take place in the timeline between The Lion King and The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, while the second half can then take place after the events of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard.

This would be in regard to the questions that were left unanswered regarding Simba's reason for being overprotective of Kiara and why Simba banished the Outsiders from the Pride Lands before, although one was revealed during the events of The Lion Guard.
I wish Kopa was part of the continuing event as well. But so far just the final scene from the original animated film & those books. Just like Geno & Gerri, the children fawns of Bambi & Falien. But I would give a thing for that 1st born Lion Cub to make an appearance. Including the twin fawns. 5:51 Oh right, I sometimes imagine that funny part. I really think that kopa is canon because why simba would be so overprotective to Kiara for no reason? My theory is that kopa was a middle child of simba and nala. Kopa had two older siblings and two younger siblings. Older siblings are Chaka and Kila and younger siblings are Kiara and Kion.Some people think that kopa is Kiaras little brother but I really don't think because we don't see him in lion king 2. If kion was not in the movie because he was not born. He was born some time later after Kiara met Kovu because in lion guard episode when kion meets zira and the other outlanders kovu says: I could see Kiara again and kion asked: You have met her? and kovu said: yea it was along time ago. And when Kiara was adult, kion was not in the movie because he was searching for a cure. Than what would be kopas reason? I really even think that kopa was Kiaras older brother. Kiara was born and kopa met her and some weeks later kopa mysteriously disappeared and Kiara doesn't remember kopa because he was so young. And simba started being too overprotective to Kiara

Although I do believe that Kopa is cannon, Disney has even said that the books have little to no relationship with each other. However IF the books where related to the movies then this would be a perfectly logical explanation to his story.

I'd like to think that he and Kion are media counterparts, since they are both vaguely similar to Mufasa and feature a mane.

I think Kopa is canon, they just never mentioned or shown him. The cub at the end of the first movie was definitely not Kiara or Kion. My theory, is that Kopa survived Zira's attack, but lost his memory in the process, remembering only his name. Maybe he didn't recognize the mark but met kion anyway. Unless Kopa eventually did remember and no longer wanted anything to do with his past. Deciding it was better if everyone thought him dead. The pridelands wouldn't need him because of future queen Kiara, plus no longer feeling like he belonged there anymore. Who knows?

This theory is probably wrong, and doesn’t fit very much with the story, but I just thought of it.
Kopa was exploring one day, and he saw Vitani. He was skeptical of her at first, but she was very nice and funny, so he played with her. Nuka saw Vitani playing with Kopa, and he feared for her safety, because he knew Kopa was the son of Simba, and if Simba found out, he might kill her. (I feel like Vitani and Nuka has a very strong sibling bond.) So, he scared Kopa off by growling at him. Vitani was angry at him for a while, but soon she understood it was for her safety. One day, she saw Kopa again, and they talked. Nuka saw this, but he didn’t want to get in a fight with Vitani again, so he ran to get Zira. Kopa was telling Vitani that the outlanders were wrong, and he was trying to get her to come with him to the pridelands. Zira got angry when Vitani said she would think about it, so she intervened, roaring at Kopa. Simba heard what was going on, but when he got to where Kopa was, it was too late. Simba told Zira if she or any of her pride came back to the pridelands again, there would be trouble. Zira went back home with Vitani and Nuka. Vitani got angry at Nuka again and when Zira brought Kovu into the outlands, Vitani played with him a lot, often ignoring Nuka. But Kopa was jut in a coma, and he was still alive. He was scared, so he ran away from the pridelands. One day, he came back to the pridelands. But Nuka saw him. He was angry that Kopa was still alive, and had come back. The fought, and Nuka won, killing Kopa.
Vita your theory is almost correct but Simba never found Kopa and when Zira attacked Simba she told him she killed Kopa just to make him suffer. The last thing you got wrong is Nuka killing Kopa because Nuka was already dead when Kopa returned.
sedulous01 no theory is correct, or wrong. In my head cannon, Simba and Nala never found Kopa when he returned to the pridelands, because Nuka had already killed him. This is just my head cannon. Nothing is wrong about it, and nothing is wrong about yours.
Well that basically adds up aside from nuka... the way he is in TLK 2 is cold and dismissive to anyone but mother. He is nothing but semi obediant to vitani - or snarky and dismissive to her. so if anything she'd say DONT u DARE TELL MOTHER! grr and hed be like PSSH...oh i wont. (that'd ruin all the fun) nuka gets a kick out of his siblings miserys , as hes very jellous and posessive of mother. he wants to be her center of attention her only world. he was probably thinking good riddance vitani u little traitor. but then later decides it'd be more fun to stir up trouble and act like a "good boy" report/scount so he trots up to zira all like OHHHH MOOOOTHHHER~~ guess what i just caught vitttanni doing! setting zira off in a RAGE and thus everything happened - but, he still doesnt get notice nor appreciation from her - until his death "i finally got your attention..didnt i?" (this is cut out though, but i believe still canon just cut censored for protection of childs). I agree no theory is wrong or correct - except things can be "wrong" in the sense its not true to the characters - like with nuka imho, or doesn't add up/make sense (based off completely butt nothing - not that such is wrong persay, but needs to be aknowledged as pure imagination and not a ground one may try to defend/back up.) but yours , aside from nuka stuff feels pretty accurate to what many of us believe is possible. :) I am proud of you for standing up for yourself in a calm and respective manner. Actually kopas death would explain a lot of things about Simba's attitude and parenting style the death of a child is extremely traumatic for a parent and will make them more protective of their living children also it would explain his hatred for the outlanders and why they were excelled to the worst part of the pride lands
The Story of Kopa is awesome and would drive me to tears if shown as it is known, but I am sure Disney will never do that.

Its not canon unfortunately, even though Kopa was apart of the stories, the stories where not 100% disney just signed by them. As for why it was diffrent, Lion king 2 wasent even being thought about at the time. So it just simply wasent planned.

The ending of Lion King and the opening of Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, The newborn cub(s) are exactly the same, there was a shadow in the first pictures Askari showed of Kiara. Now, with the Kopa theories, the only way to figure out if Kopa really existed in Lion King 2: Simba’s pride, is if you try and connect the book, Six New Adventures, with the film makers of Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride. The Lion King 2, if it wasn’t planned, we’ll never know the answer. So, to all of the Lion King fans, I would just enjoy the movie’s and Lion Guard Episodes.

I dont think there ever was a Kopa to begin with. Just because they drew the lion cub with a little hair on the head in the first movie doesnt mean that its a male.
Its pretty obvious that its been Kiara from the beginning, only that they didn't decide on the gender in the first movie and when they decided it was to be a female they changed Kiaras looks without the hair on her head. There was never a Kopa it was just made up by fans.
And simba is so protective of her because he knows Kiara is like him and is bound to get herself into danger like he did when he got hunted by the hyenas and when he lost his father and thought it was his fault.

fun facts: Originally the child at the end of 1st movie was a boy cub they dubbed "Fuzzy or fluffy" till they found a name for him. I'm assuming between that time the "Authorized fanfictions" (spin off stories we read)'s creator decided to name "fuzzy" kopa and make stories up about him. But disney scrapped fuzzy and made kiara. (as its originally intended to be lion KING not queen, but guess they wanted to be inclusive and focus on romeo and juliet story - very loved and popular back in the day - a bit cliche` now.) which makes perfect sense considering the first ones based off those two princes and their struggling kingdom if i recall (and i believe they had a tyranical father? one is believed to be killed but escaped down a river or something...my memories bad and i may not have heard the best/right story.) "simba, the river!" (little hints ya never thought about everywhere in these things...goes to show how much planning and smarts it really does take to create a legit loved story than just a basic script and end point.) well anyways... fans never let go of the whole kopa thing and many believe zira did something to him and thats why everyone that followed scar was banished and why simba is still hateful for long of the other lions. cuz nowhere do u really see a dispute within the lionesess atleast onscreen..and even near the end its like everyones in peace and harmony but maybe as time goes on after all that - the lioneses that followed scar become more and more unhappy howthings work, like not getting to eat /hunt as they see fit. and zira just being purely inlove and obsessed and manipulated by scar - probably raised to do so. ALSO .......how does ADULT nala know YOUNG VITANI!? it'd be one thing if they were cubs together during scars rule but vitani was maybe about a year old in TLK 2 so thats literally impossible. it would have to been zira. "where's your pretty daughter, NALAAA?"~ " VITANI!" - vitani is literally never seen or heard of by the other lions on screen previously. How would they have known what her name was let alone she exists? the lions of ziras tribe had to been exiled well within a year or two. Most likely just before vitanis birth. Nuka might have been about vitanis age at the time. as he himself is still practically a child during the whole thing. so about 1 yr old. 2 yrs when vitani and kiara are 1-1+1/2 yrs. the belief is that kopa and vitani (as cubs? 0.o) were pals and kinda ((or would have)) grown up to "have a thing" - and maybe vitani was geniune (perhaps showed it in the wrong ways, always getting kopa into trouble and such)) and zira found out and or got tired of it and ceased an end, perhaps her madness and rage grew over time,during different events...and thus..she did something about it. thats not to say kopa was nessicarily killed (maybe he was the one who bit her ear off , as it is quite small, i feel a bigger lion could have done way more damage) and took off to run and hide got lost never returned etc. but may be out there somewhere... others say he left after a certain point of age but nah. but..then again. this all now ties into the lion guard just a bit albeit not perfectly. I believe disney saw how well recieved kopa was and the desire for simbas son. so they took ideas of kopa and like guys come on its obvious even the name is similar K O P A / K I O N. They couldn't have really named Kopa kopa because they really arent the ones who made the books - they basically let some fangirl do it legally under their agreements - and marketed it. now they probably had every legal ability to do so but taking from others is frowned about and disney wants to hide they do that at all costs (fun fact: kimba came out way before simba/tlk i believe) and maybe outta respect and controversy and then some. and or maybe they just decided kion was more fitting?. who knows. but in retrospect KION IS KOPA he just has new name, and was made born AFTER kiara (i think?) rather than before. And im pretty there is still hints of friendship between him and vitani...or something? i have to rewatch to be certain.
actually wait i remembered something "Hand chosen by scar" perhaps vitani could have been recently born and zira with child of (another lions) cub - kovu. and scar says (probably near the end just before the fight breaks out - as nala has left so scratch that potential idea he wanetd) along the lines of "Zirra....>:) i believe you will birth a powerful male heir, and should he be know he is my chosen one." bla bla.. but its also more likely kovu was already in existence atleast JUST before "The end" (simbas return) for scar to have seen/found him or etc and "chose him" i kinda forgot about that for a split moment. but its still also possible what i said before hand as well, either way though this would suggest vitani WAS indeed born , atleast just before the exile....then again maybe he just said the first male child like me thats strong you have is my chosen heir. and zira just concoted cuz kovu fit that bill scar chose him. anythings possible, but what is more likely. the timelines dont really add up if they were all born during scars rule - as kovu and kiara are literally nearly the same age and shes not really born till after scars rule and that would take how ever long it takes to concieve and bear a child for lions. (possibly 9mo if they're making them "human like") so almost a year. (mating is shown/suggested in can u feel the love) but not nessicariily - and even so doesnt mean that first time will conceive a child. sometimes it takes multiple tries for various reasons. All in all disney's lion king has SO many plot holes and questions left to be desirably answered @_@' its quite bugging yet it works cuz it keeps us seeking more and more haha
I give the lion King two time lines, legends and Canon (kind of like star wars) Canon is the official timeline of the lion King films and the lion guard TV series. While legends is expanded universe content created by the fans before the lion guard show came out. So I would consider kopa to be legends but could be made Canon in the future

I think Disney someway include Kopa in its canon, because many of novelizations of the original story say that the first born is a male. In the audio description of "Lion King" in Disney Plus, the new born cub is described as a newborn prince, not a princess, so Kopa is someway included in Lion King Canon

Kopa is Semi-Canon. So, technically, that would make Kopa still part of Canon, just on one half as defined by what Semi means. If the ones who directed The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride are not going to add Kopa into Canon and Disney, then someone else will have to, so that Kopa can have the kind of place in the Canon part of The Lion King Franchise that he deserves. It can take place in the timeline between The Lion King and The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, while the second half can then take place after the events of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard.

I really think that kopa is canon because why simba would be so overprotective to Kiara for no reason? My theory is that kopa was a middle child of simba and nala. Kopa had two older siblings and two younger siblings. Older siblings are Chaka and Kila and younger siblings are Kiara and Kion.Some people think that kopa is Kiaras little brother but I really don't think because we don't see him in lion king 2. If kion was not in the movie because he was not born. He was born some time later after Kiara met Kovu because in lion guard episode when kion meets zira and the other outlanders kovu says: I could see Kiara again and kion asked: You have met her? and kovu said: yea it was along time ago. I like to think of kopa as canon because that would explain why Simba is SO protective of Kiara
Although I do believe that Kopa is cannon, Disney has even said that the books have little to no relationship with each other. However IF the books where related to the movies then this would be a perfectly logical explanation to his story.
I almost forgot Simba was the first protagonist of the whole franchise
