I have the Atom + pack I think it’s called, mine was an off the shelf one, living near Keswick I came to Atom packs premises where Tom took his time to help me get the right size, so far I’ve used it on the West Highland Way during the last week of April this year, camping with a pack weight of 7.5 kg, i used the Roo bum bag along with the pack too, I also camped on Pillar summit in the Lakes over the recent solstice weekend, the pack is comfortable and fuss free 👍🏻 oh meant to add, on the WHW a Dutch couple came to me asking for details about the pack and company, the guy tried it for size and liked it, I wonder if he bought one 🤔
Oh you tinker, I've been wearing a rucksack for 40 years now as military, Search & Rescue, & Disaster Response, and I don't think I ever considered the issue of using a shoulder strap to lift a sack onto my back. Every day is a schoolday, thank you!
Good review Mary, if you are stuck for a job in the future I am sure Atompacks will take you on as a salesperson, you may have tempted me to look at getting a day pack.
Just ordered the Naturehike rock 60 which has the same colour pattern and looks identical. £60 vs £265 and the Naturehike actually looks better. Both are roll tops and seem to have identical back system.
Very good review , I've had mine almost 8 months now and agree with most of the things you said. Only thing I would add from my point of view is I would like the zips to be a bit bigger they can be a bit fiddly especially with gloves on .
Great and informative review as always! Really enjoy your gear videos as well as your your hiking adventures. Thanks for giving us a closer look at Atom Packs. I’ve been following them for a while and their packs have been winking at me big time! Absolutely love my current pack and brand which has quite similar features to this one and I’m usually pretty loyal when I find a piece of gear that works but when I do eventually retire it would love to buy from a wee UK based company like them that seem to be getting it right.
Thanks for your wonderful comments - I really appreciate it! Yes I'd definitely add them to the top of your list - feel free to check in and see how I am getting on with it further down the line!
Have you stopped using your Atom Mo 50L? Why? I am very interested in the 60L. Is the bag worth the big investment? I have a Granite Gear Nimbus Trace 85L. I always looking for a new bag. I would love for it the be the Mo 60L. Thank you.
Thanks for the review! I was wondering how it felt size wise, like back length you have and size you ended up with? I am in between sizes and looking for feedback 😄
Hi Musikk , I found that how I measured it worked really well for me but I wasn't between sizes. I'd probably say if I was between sizes though I would have gone for the shorter back length option as I don't like it when packs go too low and rest on my buttocks. However with the hip belt I would choose the longer option to get more padding around my hips. I hope that helps!
These packs are so attractive to me and would love to have one but unfortunately the lead time is so extremely long. Would not be able anymore to use it this season at all.
Yes I believe they have gained in popularity very quickly! I saw they had just moved into larger premises last week so no doubt this will help. Thanks for watching.
Hi Mary, all your videos become my habit for every time I start shopping online. I really love to order this lightweight backpack. Question, about The Removable Hipbelt Pocket. When you placed this order, are they come a package of one or a package of 2 (for both side)? Also, what does the benefit of The Atom frame do? Does it necessary?
The hip belt is one whole section and comes already attached to the backpack using velcro. The frame gives it that extra bit of structure, I like it so when I have bits in the pack they don’t stick into me at all if I’ve not put them in right.
I've been looking for more female perspective reviews of this pack over the last few years as I've been in the market for a higher capacity ultralight pack for large water hauls on desert hikes in Australia. Generally, I find unisex packs still tend to be a smidgen too wide on my shoulders and uncomfortable on my boobs, so, with so few female reviews, I've been hesitant to invest in such an expensive pack. I think the first 8-9 mins of the review could have been left out as it's all just regurgitated information from Atoms website. However I did enjoy the delivery even if only the last 3 minutes was the actual review.
Whenever I do a review I always provide the full features and benefits for a product for viewers looking for details about the item and to add context to why I recommend it. This is for those who might not have heard about the company/product or who just prefer to watch a video rather than read details on a website. I am glad you found parts of it useful for your own needs.
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Thank you for such a great review! It was so awesome to get a really detailed look at this pack - it was awesome to see inside. As a short gal I'm sure I'm going to have the reach problems as well! hahaha. But this video locked in my decision to get one - I can't wait! I sleep till noon - is it really necessary to make comment about about the 9 minutes you didn't find helpful? Spread the love and focus on what was super helpful! These videos take SO MUCH time to make, not including testing time - they have to be scripted, filmed and edited. This video would have taken hours to make.. Comments like this can be hurtful to the creator that has spent so much of their time creating for the benefit of us. Just another perspective to apply next time you watch a video.
😁👍 Hi Mary. Great review and indepth covering all pros and cons ( although I can't see any cons ).As others I have been aware of AtomPacks for a while and after yours performing so well during your WHY trip I'm seriously thinking of treating myself at Xmas. Would you recommend I pop upto there lakeland shop for a true fitting ? Or is there OK off the shelf std sizes ie S to Xl a good enough fit, after adjusting the shoulder straps etc.. I'm only little myself 🤣 so find a backpack to fit snuggly and properly from my shoulders down to my hips or base of my spine difficult and uncomfortable on a very long day etc. Especially now after my spine operation.. The AtomPack is full of useful features and a brilliant weight as you said and fully guaranteed and should out last me 🤣👍
Hi Mike! So glad it was helpful. I found the sizing really simple - but I’m that short there wasn’t any smaller back lengths so it was a no brainier for me😆 If you get the chance especially after your spine operation I would suggest going to see them as I’m sure they’d be super helpful- plus get in a hike in the area too 😁
@@AtomPacks Hello, yes I think a true fitting would benefit me. A std small would proberbly fit with adjustments here and there. But after seeing the molded back section and knowing how comfortable and weight baring it would be is great. I will definatley be intouch and book an appointment to try various setups etc 😁
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures hi Mary.. The review was very helpful indeed. As I said previously, I have had my eye on AtomPacks for a couple of years now, even more so after my op and been able to get out and about again either on day hikes or wildcamping 😁 I think a trip upto the lakes is on the cards 😁👍 and through in a cheeky wildcamp whilst I'm there 😁
Mary, in particular, why did you choose the Mo 50 instead of the Atom + EP50? I'm on the fence between these two options.. Thanks for the great review!
Hi Amy, I chose it mainly because it holds over 10lb more weight and has a wider hipbelt. For the slight extra weight it means I have a pack that will serve me for both long trails as well as overnighters. Also I've had problems with other packs bruising my hips so having a comfortable hip belt was important to me. I also like having load-lifters that I can adjust so when it is full I can lean it away from my head a bit more or if it's not fully loaded I can cinch it in. Hope that helps!
How do you compare this pack and Osprey Aura? ( You have Aura, haven't you?). I need a new pack. Aura is very comfortable because of the frame.. But I need smth lighter.
They really are so different. Although the Osprey was full of features which I did like, I much prefer the weight of this pack so would most probably use this on future trips. The only reason I would probably use my Osprey again would be if I was carrying a much heavier weight - or if I found I preferred more air flow on my back during hot weather.
Is it possible that you ever do cheaper stuff ? It's so expensive for alot of people. Maybe you are rich I unfortunately am not. However you are very informative and its nice to see more women doing wild camping.
Thanks Louise, but no I am not rich 😆 far from it! I do only really spend any savings I have on hiking and outdoor gear rather than going out, buying clothes, drinking, smoking - the list goes on. I have had cheaper stuff in the past, however when I headed out to hike the PCT I wanted good quality gear that I knew would last for 6+months and therefore had saved up and invested in good gear which I hope will last me for many years and not just a season of hiking. I'm also quite into minimalism so I don't have a lot of things, choosing rather to have a few items that I love and are going to last and of the quality I need for what I enjoy doing. Thanks so much for your kind comments about my videos being informative, I do really appreciate it.
Actually I know you're a lady so this possibly doesn't apply to you, but I have a question, Sweaty Back. I borrowed one of these from a friend for a day hike, to be fair I have a longer back than him, so the bag wasn't a perfect fit. It was comfortable, enough. But the problem I had was a terribly sweaty back. There didn't seem to be any ventilation, my base layer tee was soaked. When I mentioned this to my friend he said that it affected him also. Any comments on this?
Thanks for your question - I haven't found it a problem yet, but it wasn't that warm when I have used it so far. To be honest with you, I have heard that due to the lack of ventilation it does have a tendency to cause this which is a sacrifice you need to decide if you are willing to take for the light weight and other features. I hope that helps!
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures I just knew it couldn't affect you😁. Actually you've done a couple of rucksack reviews, a comparison video may be useful. To be honest I have a pacemaker and I'm looking for the Holy grail of a rucksack that doesn't rub against it. My wife has made a shoulder pad cover sort of thing out of an old yoga mat, but it slides and also causes sweatiness. (Word of warning to your followers, if you do need a pacemaker they can and do put them in other places than the norm, I didn't know this was an option.)

Hi Mary, thank you for convert from UK pound to US current. That help lots of people in US to understand with full details and your experiences.
Glad it was helpful - I always have the same problem when I watch videos so try the best I can 😁
These packs look really good, about as light as you can get for the size. Often sold out which says it all really. Thanks for the review.
Absolutely!

No there is no frame you can adjust - it’s the payoff for a lighter pack!
A very comprehensive review of a very well-designed pack. You have me considering one and I don't even hike. 😄 Thanks, Tink!
