    I thought that a gapless second ring was not a good idea, but a gapless top ring is a good idea.
    Gapless rings work so well at sealing pressure/blowby that when used as a second ring it causes the top ring to flutter and lose it's seal.

      There are lots of options for rings from Total Seal, including gapless, gas ported, total conform, and even different coatings. The application must be considered when selecting rings.

    yes but are these rings made for all makes and models; like a 2001 dodge ram with the v8 engine...Im curious as to how the rings get over the piston too but you say they come with all instructions

      As we only specifically deal with Porsche applications, you'll need to reach out to Total Seal directly for your application. Instructions should be available to download from the TS website as well.

    In today's era, 2022, do any customers use gapless rings in the 2nd groove AND the top groove, simultaneously ? What is that advantage or disadvantages ?

      You cannot use gapless rings in both positions unfortunately. You also have the option of going with gas ported top rings or even their newest Total Conform rings, all of which we are currently evaluating.

    How do they work for a turbocharged or supercharged engine?

    • @lnengineeringllc
      @lnengineeringllc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Total Seals gapless rings or even their total conform or gas ported rings can be used in turbocharged or supercharged engines. It's always a good idea to use a modern steel top piston ring rather than a cast iron one in forced induction applications and Total Seal can supply upgraded rings for most any piston and application.

    Do I need to buy new pistons if i want thinner piston rings?

    • @lnengineeringllc
      @lnengineeringllc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Piston ring spacers are made that would allow use of a thinner ring, but we have no experience with them. You'd have to call Total Seal to see what they can do for you.

      Total Seal offers some great rings. We have had great results with gapless top and 2nd rings as well as with their Total Conform and Gas Ported Top rings.

    Why gapless on the second ring and not the top? if the 2nd ring seals the oil it starves the top ring from oil cooling and lubrication

    • @lnengineeringllc
      @lnengineeringllc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Using a gapless second won't starve the top ring of lubrication assuming the cylinders have the proper surface finish. The crosshatch, valleys specifically, will hold oil. However, a gapless top ring also works very well and can be combined with Total Seal's gas porting as well for the top ring.

    Got one for Honda K series or I have to measure the ring?

      You'll want to call Total Seal. They'll be able to explain what options for rings are available for your application.

    Total seal is not the inventors of the gappless piston rings. There are OEM gappless piston rings in engines over 100 years old!!!

      That’s very true. They are certainly not the original manufacturer of gapless rings.
