    You can still buy that old type of can opener in the UK. The other side is used to open bottles with a crown cap. I have both in my kitchen drawer and I think the old type works better on large cans than the more modern rotary type. I have a friend who is a refugee from Ukraine and she said she would show me how to make holubtsi.

    The kind of pizza you made is called “Lazy Pizza”, at least where I live. I have seen that style of can opener in Canada and the USA , it’s considered old fashioned but very reliable. There are many different devices available to open jars. Take care and hope you will be safe.

    We used to have an opener like that. It could be used like you did to open a lid. We used to use the sharp pointed end to open tin cans a couple of ways. Either to puncture it to make a triangular opening at the edge of canned milk to pour it. Or, to run it around the edge of the can to make a complete opening to get vegetables out if you didn't have a hand operated opener or electric. I haven't seen one in use in a very long time.

    • @TaniaKovba
      @TaniaKovba  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes yes, we also run it around the edge to open canned fish or beans for example)

    You were spot on with that garlic bread. I'll layer my bread with butter and chopped garlic and drizzle a little olive oil, then top with parmesan cheese (415f for 10 minutes) Btw I'm having that potato dish in a pot that you previously filmed about 2 times a week. Great cold weather food. Also, I have seen can openers that looked like what you had.

    I have always known that as French bread pizza in the US. You can make it yourself of course or buy premade frozen versions. I’ve seen that style of can opener before but it’s pretty rare. I would say most Americans have an electric can opener or a manual version that looks similar to a pair of pliers with a crank or twist knob on the side. Seems like a can opener is required less and less as more cans have pull tops. Regarding winter we have snow in north east Ohio and a few days ago temps were 2F (-16C).

    • @TaniaKovba
      @TaniaKovba  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      so you also have a real winter😀
      now I understand why many people abroad don't need that kind of opener because they have other lids on the jars (easier to open). most Ukrainians preserve food with such lids as tomato juice in my video. anyway, I have to look for an electric can opener

    Hi Tania, in the UK you may be able to find one of those openers in an antique shop? I only ever use screw down lids for preserving. Does your mother have a special machine to put the lids on? Unfortunately it’ll never happen. If you only knew just how terrible things truly are and how evil ruZZia really is…
      Just earlier today I watched a video that had a clip of a young ruZZian lad who couldn’t have been more than 19 or 20 years old (the clip was recorded by rt news for the ruZZian network and audience), and what was coming out of his mouth was some of the most appalling and disturbing verbal diarrhea one could ever possibly produce. He started out by saying that he wants to join the ruZZian army as a contract soldier for the sole purpose to make money and “not get in trouble” for “the enjoyment of killing and torturing people for fun”… I kid you not! And it only got a lot worse from there when referring to the Ukrainian people, all while the kid was talking in a completely neutral and non offensive manner or tone… 🤦‍♂️ 🤮 😡
      I urge you to find that clip (it shouldn’t be hard to search for), as well as educate yourself about what “they” truly are. I can say for certain that they aren’t like the rest of humanity. Not in any way, shape, or form - period.

    • @TaniaKovba
      @TaniaKovba  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is the worst position - neutrality and "Let them be friends". russians are aggressors, they invaded Ukraine barbarically, they want to destroy everything ukrainian and have no plans to stop on Ukraine. regular russians celebrate on social media (we see it) when missiles hit residential buildings killing Ukrainian children and civilians. there are black and white, no grey in this war.
      and by the way, russians live in peace and harmony. horrible war is happening in the Ukrainian land
