    The new August Smart Lock has Home Kit integration and lets you lock or unlock with Siri voice commands. There is also a new keypad and a doorbell camera so you can securely let visitors into your home, even when you're not there.

    To all the Smug Luddites (that troll every smart lock thread) asserting, "Can't wait 'til homes get hacked ... !"
    Your home is already readily "hackable" using an easy bump-key technique, rock through the sliding glass doors or well-placed kick or shoulder against a cheap deadbolt or poorly made door-jamb.
    August lock is not a *substitute* for a good deadbolt, reinforced strike plates, strong door jambs and basic home security system; it's meant as a *supplement* to all of the above with added features of information, control and convenience:
    When I enter the elevator to my building with a handful of groceries, my door is automatically unlocked before I get to the door ... After I leave my home, the "Everlock" feature automatically locks the door behind me--whether I have my phone with me or not ... When I'm at work or running late getting home, I can open the lock for waiting friends and family (or the cable guy) simply by using my phone's August App and a WiFi connection--plus, it tells me who and when they activated the door ... and whether they closed and locked it upon leaving. Can your house key do that?
    Speaking of phones: the rhetorical question, "so if you lost your phone, then you lost your house?" is as simplistic as asking, "so, if you lost your key then you lost your house?" August doesn't replace my house key; it simply adds access functionality to a device I'm already taking with me when I leave home: my phone. (The difference being that I've lost or misplaced my keys far more times than my cell phone.)

    A doorbell camera is bound to be featured on an episode of Law and Order if something similar hasn't already been used to identify a perp..

    Cant august smart lock be install in double door?

    • @DCSVisuals
      @DCSVisuals 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you will always have anchor points on one of the double doors, usually a lock that enters the ceiling, and another that enters the floor, this squares the other door up and it acts more like a wall, so yes as long as you have a deadbolt system on the doors this will work.

      No because it will ask you for your password or fingerprint if it is accessed through Notification Center in the lock screen and if you don't have a password enable then I'm sorry for your house

      No. If you get the keypad and set your own passcode, it will work and if you don't have that, I hope you have your traditional house key hidden somewhere outside or with you.

    I have ONE very SIMPLE question: Why would anyone attach $500 worth of gear to a lock which can be picked in TWO seconds? BTW, ALL key operated locks can be picked in under 5 seconds :)... I would rather look into a key-less door lock; just my two cents...

    10 years later apple is gonna come up with ikey. Basically a metal device to lock (and unlock) - Selling points ? more secure, better than those pesky voice commands which dont work, carry around anywhere. Accessories: iKeyChain $75
