    I just received Apocrypha (+ The Flesh) today ; I'm a solo player too, I really liked your video : it helps a lot to begin with this big board game that looks compelling, thrilling, fascinating! I took notes.
    I'm looking forward to begin to try play (and get used to it, its vocabulary, icons and mechanics before the "real thing").
    And I totally agree with you: games rulebooks in general, as all technical books, should be written by the creators of the game, of course, but checked, corrected by professionals of the edition area (and this is not only about Apocrypha but many many games!).
    And imagine when rulebooks are not translated (in BGG, for example).
    I'm French, English is not my native language. I understand it well, except when it's too colloquial (for ex/ it's only atmosphere dialogue but Ruby Doomsday Twitter conversation at the last page of the Adventure card game book is partly lost for me.)
    So thanks a lot for the video which is a very good and informative introduction to the game! Thumb up!

      I am so glad you found this video of use. The game is challenging even for a native speaker so I am so impressed at your command of English to play it. It’s been a while since I have played and I was looking to do so again but realized I would need to watch my own video to remind me. Great game in there tho if you are willing to make the effort.

      @@GeekGamers01 thank you for your answer! I'm beginning to play (the "Enter Here" Mission: the shortened version of Shirts and Skins Mission." The Mancubs" are really unforgiving !!!!) I must be doing a lot of mistakes, but I'm enjoying it and am having a lot of fun! The 1st Nexus is empty (the beginner's luck!), hence sealed (or sanctified? or both? ^^) Once the "coin has fallen", even if some points remain mysterious (I go on BGG, or play them "my way", how I understand tem), it's a great game, really! (I also bought the expansion "The Flesh", as it was second-hand! I'm glad I did it!)

    Have you seen the new rulebook "Living Breathing Rulebook" from the Loneshark website? its a re-written rulebook due to the bad reception the original one got. Also did you get the expansions? I have all three boxes from the kickstarter but cant get through the manual. You have given me more reason to persist now with this video. :) So many cards and so much potential. :)

      Mark Schipper I didn’t know about that new rulebook! Thanks for enlightening me. I will get it. Alas I have no expansions. Would definitely want them depending on their cost.

    I was just watching the section on mutations and a mutation should only happen when another player assists the skill check by allowing them to reroll a virtue that matches either the corresponding up virtue, or one of the sideways virtues. Mutations do not happen when a player plays a card, even when they are playing the card for another player. You are making this way too impossible for yourself, if you mutate whenever another player uses a card during another player's assemble phase. I know the rules might not make this super obvious, but that is what Mike Selinker describes in his play through video.

      Chits and Cats It’s got some great stuff once you get beyond the inexcusably unedited rulebook. I wonder how many people shied away from it because of that.

    What brand of card sleeves do you have on your cards?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jazz In this vid, just very cheap generic penny sleeves that come in bags of 100 and I get 1000 at a time. Lately I have switched to DeElf brand which is less satin and thus better for big stacks of cards so they don’t slip. Not sure how much I like those for shuffling, however, and I think over time they will really show scratches.

    All the terminology and the poor rule book just makes this game so confusing. I've been wanting to get this but just keep passing every time I try to watch a video on it. You do a pretty good job trying to explain it but I'm still like "meh, I don't know about this one". I'm thinking of maybe Pathfinder Mummy instead. How do you rate Mummy's Mask compared to Apocrypha?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      World of Warpaint Totally get what you are saying here: this requires a fair amount of effort because of the jargon which is often inconsistently/ confusingly explained.
      I really enjoy Mummy’s Mask and it is much easier to play/understand. The game is less rich and intricate, however, because the mechanics are simplified.
      In this game I love the idea and execution of “assembling” and “evaluating” dice to try to make a roll-along with the pain that comes from bad luck. (that was on display here in this vid). Mummy’s Mask doesn’t have that complexity. You are still choosing cards that let you gather dice but it is not as rich an experience. .
