Alright I'm really sold on this. The theme isn't something I'd choose to play, but I'm going to give it a go. Even beyond the theme, there looks like a there's a lot of useful systems and ideas inside.

thanks for this presentation! I had the chance to help RP and Galen on this project and found them to be super creative and generous, great members of the indie TTRPG community

Reminds me of Deep Rock Galactic. Which is always a fun twist to generic fantasy.

Thanks for reviewing this! I am picking this up for sure. I like the mechanic of rolling a different die for the stats. That makes it so fast and easy to get started. I also really like the step down mechanic to reflect getting tired or what have you. That's so clever.
I really like these "solo friendly" games that are lighter on crunchy solo mechanics. My favorite thing to do as a solo player is to mix and match games, along with other pieces of media for inspiration. These types of games work perfectly for the way I play.

Debroah's right on the money when she first made her solo rpg video, combining multiple sources for solo play is the well, play especially if a majority of the resources uses d6s and maybe poker cards.

24xx, Charge, Pbta/Fitd... At this rate I am not surprised if someone decides to run a multi system/combined system campaigns using d6-compatible rpgs systems. Heck combine it with generative sources like Takuma Okada's Alone among the Stars, Sleepy Sasquatch Games' Glide and even wargames like grimdark future firefight and five parsecs from home and you are gonna have a heck of a time!
Sadly I find pbta/fitd games less fun since they tend to be either way too confusing or a tad too heavy on the journaling that can also be compounded by the former problem. Although it would be great to find more ttrpgs like swords and six siders but compatible design wise with systems like 5e since I admit I lean more onto the game aspects but not as keen on the lethality as swords and six siders have.
Overall wooo! Rock and Stone! And I hope we see more ttrpgs w/ genuine support in solo play and honestly more solo tools for existing systems that are more specialized to a significant extent!

In most case I expect "solo friendly" to mean a lot of tables intead a lot of lore.
I also noticed there is a trend of putting lots of random word (nouns verbs adjectives) in tables and assume that is useful to players.
I remember in one of your videos, you mentioned random tables are not random and should serve a purpose (even random word tables should have a theme etc)
That said, I hope solo RPG community doesn't get the same gate keeping culture as traditional rpg and any new attempts / innovation should be welcomed :)

I backed this on Kickstarter and played a practice campaign with a Dwarven Sinker/Engineer. Not a bad game, this is where I started really getting into the Solo/Journaling RPG thing. I like the Breathless system, I might play around with creating some of my own content (such as my own sectors/asteroids) since it's so easy to make new stuff. I'm not fully feeling the setting as written but it's still flexible enough and R.P. seems like a cool dude with his head on fairly straight. On the negative, I wish he explored the inspirations a little more and the community gives me negative flashbacks to the Paizo forums.
As for this new emphasis on Solo RPGs, I'm ultimately for it. Soloing has caused me to look at a lot of RPG books that were just collecting dust on my shelf in a whole new light and speaking as someone living in a part of the country that isn't even remotely interested in playing something that isn't D&D 5E or otherwise high fantasy, soloing is great for finally letting me play in other genres.

Thanks for your thoughts. It’s always great to hear how someone relatively new to this niche within the niche approaches things. And yes! If you have already been a player and own RPG content that suddenly you have a whole bunch of “new” books to explore!

@@GeekGamers01 Yeah, was first introduced to the concept with Starforged (haven't played a game with it yet though) and first played with Stoneburner... then I got your book and that got me looking at things in a new way. I also write science fiction so it wasn't that big of a leap to this though I tend to play faster and looser with the rules, letting "what would make the story more interesting?" guide more then a few of my decisions.

While you were flipping through it looked like it's mostly artwork. Is that the case?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I wouldn’t say it is “mostly” artwork but there is a significant amount and each of the character types has a double page spread of art that, had I been designing it, I would have condensed.
