    Awesome video. I used Mr. Clean and a rounded sponge mop. Did it twice because of the streaks. I smoked for the first 8 years I lived in my current apartment. But then I quit. Soon after that I noticed the walls when I took a couple picture. The flash photography shows EVERYTHING.

    Very good to know! I'm currently in the process of cleaning my walls. I am a smoker and not supposed to smoke indoors, but.....I do sneak a few - or more inside - especially when it's -20 below or colder. 🚬🚬🤫🤭
    I don't expect anyone to clean my walls, windows, appliances or carpeting. I own my own carpet cleaner. I am creating the mess and odor and usually I clean it everything from top to bottom once a year, but I have been having some serious medical issues and haven't cleaned my apartment in over a year. It's now smelling and looking so much better! The only thing I'm having a problem with is the popcorn ceiling. Not sure how to approach that....unless I should just paint it myself. I've never cleaned it. But TBH, it's not that bad. My windows are always open and I have 6 fans that constantly running at all times, summer and winter.
    What I also find works very well is oxygen...like OxyClean with a household cleaner. Personally, I find Pine-Sol and Oxygen has worked the best so far. BUT I am going to pretreat the walls with Scrubbing Bubbles before the wipe down with the Pine-Sol and oxygen. For really tough stains, I highly recommend Greased Lightning. It's a must try.
    I appreciate the tip!

    There are lots of things that work. TSP tri sodium phosphate, Vinegar, Baking soda, Ozone Machine, painting. Generally in the renovation business, one wants to hit a difficult problem multiple ways. I look forward to seeing how scrubbing bubbles work, I have used Vinegar and and TSP. TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) is a very popular cleaner, and cheaper. One has to be careful, if you paint over too much, the smoke can come through the wall paint. Both immediately and over time. In some cases in may be ok, if it comes through a little (is it even, consistent, or splotchy?) and (How long do you want it to look good and what color are you painting?) Ozone Machines are great for removing the smell, but use properly and be patient and take time. To tackle tough problems like this generally one needs to hit it multiple times. Clean everything quickly, the clean the walls good, then paint, then clean completely, ozone multiple times, drop a bunch (20) of boxes of baking soda one in every room and cabinet (baking soda can absorb some of the remaining odors) and add some air fresheners to cover some of the remaining smell. One needs to be rational are realistic in the approach. TSP and Ozone machine are the two biggest tools. Other things like placing baking soda and air fresheners are measured in their effectiveness. Baking soda is cheap, has absorbing abilities, and can probably only remove 10% of the smell, but for the $20 it costs, it well worth it. No matter what, you can never totally remove 100%, but getting a pleasant covering smell over that last 1% is totally worth it. Don't over due it on air fresheners. Kilz2 primers are also good. Hope these tips help someone.

    TSP works. Cheap. Buy it at Home Depot. Windex works good. Scrubbing Bubbles-works good but I can't breath it. Maybe the unscented is better. Or a mask. I'm doing a condo. Learning all kiinds of new stuff.

  • @tomslick2058
    @tomslick2058 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Side note . Theoreticaly you could just paint the walls with two coats of a good oder eating primer. That's what a couple of so called expert painters on TH-cam suggest. They said they don't bother cleaning anymore. Because you never get it all off. But cleaning is fine. But you would still have to paint with good paint. That's what I did. No painter wanted to primer with that toxic smell. But everything else has to be cleaned or changed to. Rugs are not salvageable. I changed all doors and trim to. They were ugly anyway. We wanted to go all white. Tore out rugs and put vinyl flooring in. Tile in the bathroom were not bad. So cleanable. Just painted windows white to. Thing is everyplace we looked at we probably would have remodeld everything anyway. Floor tiles are pretty resistant. They just need a good cleaning. Scrubing bubbles gets alot off. Bur you will never get it out completely. So if you can stand it primer is a must. If it's not real bad sometimes a good paint is good enough.

    I’m not judging anybody. Nothing should go into your lungs other than oxygen. But if you want to use nicotine just vape. It’s still bad, but it’s way less bad than cigs. People make their stupid ass comments but I don’t care. It doesn’t stink up my clothes and it doesn’t leave this nasty residue on the walls which will cause an odor.

One room I will have to clean first. The others are not so bad. Not much comes off even with scrubbing . So damage is minimal. Does not mean Primer oder block is a sure thing .
    Would hate to invest all that money and still have that stale smell. I'd have to sell. You cant live with that shit. Should have done my homework. Lot of funky orders out there. Thought you could just air out cig smoke.

      @@christiantakeyourdadfishin1655 pretty good and I just used Sherwin Williams top paint. All the painters told
      Me that was good enough. Nobody wanted to primer. Probably because of the oder and needing a respirator. Notice once in a while I will smell cigarettes. But just found out the people below gets a visitor who smokes .I can see a cup of cigarette butts there so hopefully it's that. I always worry it will come back
      Then I would have to primer. But not any wood. Doors,trim ,baseboard are all new. I did paint the windows though to white. So will see. Side note the smoker who visits stays a few days at a time and smokes on the outdoor balcony. My theory is it gets through my windows . Smoke and heat rises. I don't know if the smell would travel through cement floors. My mother use to smoke in the garage below my bedroom and I never smelled it. And that was just plywood and plaster board.
