Thank you for this video. Bought a EGR Delete kit a few weeks ago when a friend whos a BM Tech said "get that out the f**k", was supposed to be going to him next week but then the EGR completely failed last night, valve is stuck open and coolant is leaking down into the exhaust when the car is off. This video made it super easy to delete.
Shell V Power & BP Ultimate Diesel plus regular motorway driving has kept my F10 B47 in tip top condition: 108000 Miles, no major issues. Original timing chain/Turbo. New EGR Cooler/Valve and intake Manifold changed recently under the recall
Don't want to pick a point, but timing chains need to be changed at the service intervals. If they fail, it can cause severe engine damage, diesel or petrol. Turbos on diesels are very reliable. A diesel engine regularly serviced should easily last 200,000 miles without any major issue. I knew a goy who used to drive a minibus (Mercedes) as a business taking passengers to airports. Lot of motorway driving. His engine had done over 750,000 miles.
EGR valves and DPFs kill diesel vehicles. I removed my EGRs on both my vehicles. Didn't have Dpf's. MPG about 25% better. Emissions had a big drop at MOT time. Sharper engine, pulls like a train now. I would recommend it to everyone. Whoever thought all these emissions crap was a good idea wants their head read.
I just blanked mine off when I had my 520d remapped. The guy who did mine said leave the egr system in place they look to see if it's been tampered with or removed now on the MOT. Like you said it is illegal on UK roads to remove any emissions system.
Whole load of nonsense over the internet about EGR on diesels. If the EGR valve is kept clean it has zero effect on performance, EGR only operates under a very limited set of conditions at cruise press the accelerator and EGR shuts off.
All well & good blanking off ports & waterways but when the ECU gets upset because it knows someones been messing with the system A ECU remap is requierd' the Ford T1GA enging does not like to be messed with for instance even with a remap ...........
Whilst unlikely to be spotted during an MOT, we are obliged to report all modifications to our insurers. Having a serious accident with undeclared modifications would likely lead to a string of serious consequences, starting with null and void insurance.

I cleared the path to turbo as much as possible, will swap old panel filter with updated/ k&… panel filter, it seems to suck air like crazy now with the tub and box trimmed and polished. A mate is a diesel mech and told me for more power I need more air and flow with less effort from engine.. this made a difference after a few miles it seems to appreciate the extra oxygen. 😅excellent content mate.. rate you since day!
uh as much as I hate egr and dpf and all that emissions crap to 'save the planet' I have to rise one question: what will happen with the temperature into cylinder heads? will significantly increase, why? because clean air instead of dirty inert gas so more oxigen better burn cleaner engine but much higher temperature so if the engine is designed to function with egr and dpf is it safe on the long run to mod its parameters?
Hi George, I’ve tuned mine out a while ago. I needed a new one but I also wanted the software update so it’s only working when regenerating DPF. It’s still throwing codes though. Useless.

I am thinking of something else, regarding the cancellation of the ERG. Actually, I don't want to cancel anything physically on the car, just to block the entry of gases into the egr. I mean, I put a "blid" there... and that way you won't have to rewrite the car's software and you won't even notice the EGR + that cooler are eliminated.
I agree, although EGR reduces combustion temps and therefore reduces harmful oxides of nitrogen so it is more eco friendly etc etc. That said I would rip off that crap If I had a diesel. Nice video George! George how many years have you been on YT? I have been following you a bit and trying to learn from your content which people obviously like very much. Awesome content mate!
@allmech EGR's do NOT reduce combustion temps ! Quite the opposite in fact . Engines with EGR always run hotter....why do you think that is ? ....... * When EGR's were introduced due to political interference , MAN trucks issued a challenge that they could produce a cleaner engine , that was NOT fitted with emissions crap.....and they DID !! Yet the 'authorities' insisted on all the emissions crap , which resulted in far more engine trouble ( and in some cases , failures ) . ANY diesel engine will run far better and be more reliable , if it can breathe properly .... fact !
@@crabcakerecords696 it’s illegal to remove any anti emissions equipment from a vehicle. At some point it will become part of the MOT to test these things
EU Directives gave us this Bull$hit .... then EU Manufacturers broke their own Emission rules/designs! They feed the exhaust gases back into the intake to DE-TUNE the power. Madness.
The title is misleading. The EGR system is not actually evil and all vehicles over the last quarter century have some form of it, either through an external system or implemented through the valvetrain so an external valve and pipework is not needed. At first, I was going to give this video a downvote. I actually gave it an upvote, because one of the reasons for removal is the possibility of failure leaking coolant into the engine. My own vehicle had a faulty EGR system. I fitted a restrictor plate as the simplest and cheapest solution, as well as being relatively invisible, doesn't put the MIL on and still allows some of the benefits of EGR.
Nice job, just clean the EGR and keep in box. Just in case it gets noticed on test, then can reinstall. Should of blanked number plate aswell. I took the valve out and checked it to see if it was closed(wasn't working anyway. Have a new one in box. Plugged in new one just to check wiring). It was closed so removed all pins and bypassed the water pipe on the EGR. Get 3 fault codes in ISTA but no warning light on dash. Driven about 300miles seems fine.
If you have a mazda 6 2013 and newer and your dash looks like a christmas tree- scbs light, under boost codes, dpf inspec required and the whole limp mode lot, delete the dpf, egr, stage 2 remap then get 300k out of your car and thank me later. Cars are designed to fail because that fits the government narrative for EV and emissions while these parts actually cause more waste and worse emissions as you double the amount of repairs and buying of new cars when your engine tanks. In all fairness skip over a diesel altogether, they are awful but if like us you have one just delete and remap and have a good car life with some super power.

@@simonh870you donot have to remove the Dpf but it will clog up faster, if you do remove it have it done proper DONOT just put a pipe in its place as this will cause high pressure in the head/s (on the exhaust manifold side)and can (and will) lead to head gasket/turbo issues, same if you do a de-cat, as a rough bodge guide your replacement box should equal your cc 😉
@@stigmarto I found no difference on my BMW's with the EGR blanked as to how the DPF performed. Some say that blanking the EGR actually reduces soot production, as the fuel burns hotter and cleaner...
@@simonh870Yes and no, by blocking off the egr you are forcing the engine to use a clean air/fuel charge all the of time which is good (less soot inlet side) and because it is a almost always colder and therefore more dense inlet charge it has less volume, so to fill the cylinder to volume the engine needs more charge to fill the cylinder up during the "suck" cycle more charge= more bang + soot but more powah!= more heat , and will be cleaner both engine and in exhaust fume (in most cases), however some of the soot left is being deposited in the dpf now insted of re-burnt or collecting up in the egr and breather pipes hence the dpf will clog up faster than normal, particularly in vehicles that do a lot of slow town use, vehicles that get a good regular run/service/decent fuel then probably no issue(I should have said earlier), if you find no difference it is probably because your driving habits suit the engine or you have not owned the vehicle long enough to notice 😉🤣
Is what you recommend "every diesel car owner to do" legal in the UK???? In my country, Switzerland, it would be clearly illegal, exposing you to a stiff fine the first time you get caught, to a possible prison sentence the second! Police cars are equipped with exhaust gas sensors, so the risk of getting caught is anything but trivial. So, is it responsible to advise doing such things? May I suggest, if you have a problem with diesel EGRs to try an electric vehicle! They are so much better, and overall cheaper!
I hope you would have a glass breaker if you ever get in a wreck in 1 of those things. If you get a Tesla and something happens to your 12 volt battery up front the doors won't open. If you run over something and damage the battery pack under it you get bar-b-qued! Maybe.
@@ln5747 Never heard that one! You made it up? It is largely (but not totally) wrong. Switzerland has pretty light governments, compared to our neighbors'... and a lot of pragmatism in the application of laws and regulations. I put a plural at government, because, as in the US of A onto which Constitution ours was modeled back in 1847, the states (cantons) have their own sets of laws, and their own government. If we don't like a law, ANY citizen can launch either a referendum (against a freshly voted law), or an "initiative" against a long-existing one... or propose a new one. We vote on a good dozen of such topics every year. To my knowledge, that degree of power to the People exists nowhere else! What we often lightly say in Switzerland is: "everything that is not forbidden is obligatory!" Also, the anthem of my native canton is praising "the love of laws..."! True enough! BUT, in the same verse "...freedom and peace". And that is true, too!
@@st-ex8506 ultimate power to the people lies with trial by jury, which does not exist in Switzerland as far as I know. one question, can you just 2 blinded metal gaskets and keep the cooler? i think you would get the same effect, would you? Even make gaskets with a 50% smaller hole and maybe you wouldnt even have to recode the car
That’s the more “legal” way of doing it, no visible modification. You’d absolutely have to map it out still as there will be no flow across the EGR which is recorded.
Why does the EGR fail..?? Why does the DPF fail..?? Because; poor oil/fuel, irregular oil changes and not specific oils used, generally poor maintenance, low temp/distance driving thus the DPF cannot burn off collected grams of soot regularly and change your PCV every couple years..!!! The arrogance from this guy is ridiculous, as with anyone else repeating the same procedure to their vehicles…! I have an friend who’s a MOT vehicle examiner in the SW (Somerset) of England, we’ve spoken many occasions on these emissions control systems and he says he’s failed many vehicles because of people removing those items, he also stated the British government are implementing the latest DPF smoke measuring detector like they’ve had in Holland, Germany and Switzerland already use that measures the exhausted particles…. Then see how wise this removal was to do.!!!
@GeorgeAusters I would keep going to that garage then 😁 if you went to the garage I work at we would defo notice. Mot testers are trained technicians so they know what an egr looks like. So they are obviously a bit lazy or don't want to do a retest or can't be bothered.

My daughter works for an insurance company and they will do anything to avoid paying out and this gives them an excuse.
Glad it helped

EGR valves and DPFs kill diesel vehicles. I removed my EGRs on both my vehicles. Didn't have Dpf's.

Whoever thought all these emissions crap was a good idea wants their head read.
I agree
I just blanked mine off when I had my 520d remapped. The guy who did mine said leave the egr system in place they look to see if it's been tampered with or removed now on the MOT. Like you said it is illegal on UK roads to remove any emissions system.

Whole load of nonsense over the internet about EGR on diesels. If the EGR valve is kept clean it has zero effect on performance, EGR only operates under a very limited set of conditions at cruise press the accelerator and EGR shuts off.
a lot of cars will need fuelling adjustments after removing your Egr or you may get a flat spot if it cannot self adjust to cope
The thing is, a lot of the time you don't actually know which modifications have been done to the car especially if you are the 10th owner
@@GeorgeAusters You think insurance companies bear that in mind, when deciding whether or not to pay out?
You've actually done yours on video, with your registration exposed, leaving no room for doubt in such an event.
I'd be surprised if a time and date wasn't set in the ECU during remapping too.
If you'd just blocked it, would likely never be discovered.

Hello there porridge. My N47 just went bang. Was all gunged up with dpf crap from previous owner. Had it about 10 days. Was about to strip and clean when something happened. Knocking and smoke from pcv. It still runs but there is a loud banging sound from top of engine. Sounds like a dropped valve to me. Engine oil light was flickering before it went but I was in gridlocked traffic on a motorway so unable to eject. 😂 will shoot some video getting in there to have a look. Could just be a loose injector or glow but man it does not sound good at all.
Just get it mapped out so the valve never opens just nice clean air going through 😊

If you look at the initial air intake above the nostrils you will find only one side is open… dremel it open and you will see increase in air intake. And I smoothed my intake box while trimming the internal intake snorkel (resonator thingy)

uh as much as I hate egr and dpf and all that emissions crap to 'save the planet' I have to rise one question: what will happen with the temperature into cylinder heads? will significantly increase, why? because clean air instead of dirty inert gas so more oxigen better burn cleaner engine but much higher temperature so if the engine is designed to function with egr and dpf is it safe on the long run to mod its parameters?
It's the PCV oil separator that is the real problem. Install an oil catch can and leave the EGR in place.
The engines "designed to function with egr and dpf" are in ,most cases the same as the engines to work without. All this crap are afterthoughts.

I am thinking of something else, regarding the cancellation of the ERG. Actually, I don't want to cancel anything physically on the car, just to block the entry of gases into the egr. @allmech EGR's do NOT reduce combustion temps ! Quite the opposite in fact . George what do you think about removing swirl flaps from bmw n57 3 diesel. Is it worth to do it?.
You can just replace them on that engine
Legend 😂
Future Vids Remove Your Number Plate Lad Lol.

You shouldn't need to. I had N47 and N57 with EGR turned off in map and no issues with DPF.

Statement of the decade “mot testers don’t know what an egr valve/cooler looks like”
Is what you recommend "every diesel car owner to do" legal in the UK????
Maybe.

What we often lightly say in Switzerland is: "everything that is not forbidden is obligatory!"
Also, the anthem of my native canton is praising "the love of laws..."! True enough! BUT, in the same verse "...freedom and peace". And that is true, too!
