I've been predicting this trend. this is just more evidence: The REPRINT ERA is behind us welcome to the POWERCREEP ERA. WOTC's new model to market the game is to go forward making functionally better versions of every desirable card one by one. That'll help them wash out their old player base and replace them with younger players, all while transferring value from the older cards to the newer ones.
cool old stuff the better era will become more affordable. The new era is just "brother ewww" i mean there is some ok sets at times but what gets me is the sets dont build off each other in terms of lore and story.
Well... One thing is for damn sure. This lotus will be in every single commander deck. WotC needs to start specifying "non token" artifacts, because anyone is able to create an insane amount of token artifacts. Of course that with a 6 casting cost it won't be a "pushed" card, but it's still very decent and since you can sacrifice any number of artifacts (trigger trigger trigger) and produce 3 mana of any chosen color for each artifact, it's a perfect fit for game ending spells in commander.
Lol, no, only in the right decks. It's 6 mana + all the artifacts you sac + the 2 cards (the lotus and the card you're casting with it.) Most decks would be better off with just a 6 mana card that wins the game.
Radiant Lotus is amazing for an OTK. Don't forget that the card itself can be sacrificed, so you only need 2 additional artifacts to gain 3 more mana than you spent casting it. In addition, the ability can be activated immediately, so your opponent cannot respond to its activation. With only 8 artifacts in play, including the Lotus, you can Fireball for 23. I see it more as a one-use Krark-Clan Ironworks and less as a piece that gives value over time.
Given how pushed artifact tokens and affinity have been, Radiant Lotus feels like it could potentially be banned in multiple formats. Radiant lotus is written like one of those test cards that for whatever reason got approved.
Turn 1: Land, Sol Ring, Mana vault Turn 2: Land, Lotus Petal, Chrome Mox Tap 1 Land, Sol Ring and Mana Vault for Radiant Lotus, Which taps for 3 of 1 color sacrificing the Mana Vault. Tap another land, Chrome Mox and sacrifice Lotus Petal and you've got Niv-Mizzet Parun back on Turn 2. So it looks like this might enable similarly hard to cast beasties even without JLo and Dockside so very nice indeed to see more hard-to-cast commanders in CEDH.
This card is going to go nuts in a ton of decks. I'm already testing it in Korvold and Yurlok as a hybrid Treasure Burn deck for Jund thay will either burn opposing players or kill them with a really large Torment of Hailfire. Deck Idea is to basically generate a fuck ton of treaures, and then search for either Hailfire or Yurlok for an instant win
I know I'm putting money aside for UB FF. I might even try to see if I can get a Collectors Box on top of the Commander Decks. We'll see how much bank I can put aside by Summer.
The amount of people that think this card isn't good are astounding! I'll take any Radiant Lotus you all don't want for $5 each 🤣 I'll caveat my statement by saying it's a commander card for sure, not standard.... Off the top of my head, 3 artifact lands, 1 sol ring, 1 signet = Turn 3 being able to produce 15-18 mana and still having 4 cards in hand.....
The way I see it is zero cast artifacts with fireball or disintegrate in legacy play and I can see modern play with and commander decks with artifact token decks with direct damage spells or mill maybe the way it looks that card can be broke very easy
What about cards like Mycrosynth Lattice :) Could always pair it with other cards like treasure nabber and stuff, Im sure it would fit nicely in a myr deck
Ygra. All you need is endless token creatures or food tokens, which her deck is already trying to make. All that mana could turn into another wincon, or just end up pumping the hell out of Ygra.
It'll be fun in hug decks. It's broken. Even at 6. Get it down and you get power if you save up Having more than one isn't important. Treasure, or clues for 3 each. Hmmm.
radiant lotus and esoteric duplicator... infinite mana turn over turn... not broken but still amazing synergy that leaves room for another card to break it!
I dunno... Krak Clan Ironworks was pretty good at 4 and 6 isn't a big leap if you have ramp going. Will definitely be popular in certain commander decks. 6 casting cost might be too much for 60 card formats though. Aetherdrift is a set I will likely skip. The flavor sucks JMO. Bring on Dragonstorm and FF!
In commander this card is going to be ridiculous. If you build around it (as you said) its basically 6 mana for billion mana. Especially if you make a ton of artifact tokens. It would be balanced if as someone suggested in the comments it was "non token" artifacts. Or if it was you get that much mana of the artifacts casting cost.
My mind went to food or clue tokens. Then there are thopters and other generators that just swarm the board with "trash" tokens. Not to mention plenty of ways to get a artifact in play from wherever, the real secret will be making it consistent and if we'll ever get our power table from them!
6 mana and does nothing on it's own in standard doesn't sound great. It will have homes in commander. In older formats it will probably be broken and get banned. This is Three Tree City again.
Academy Manufacturer could help the Radiant Lotus in Commander. Thank you for the video Mox Man. Yes, the artwork could have been better. I have seen some really lazy artwork lately. Transit Mage is a decent card but the artwork is ridiculously bad. Now there is a character that is holding an electric guitar which hits a SOUR NOTE to me. 🤣 I wonder who is in charge at Wizards of approving so much crappy art. I hate the checkered flag too. Ramble Jamble. Yes, I understand your reference to The Never Ending Story with the princess in the Ivory Tower. I took my kids to see that movie back in 1984. ....ramble jamble....
it works in a cycle with treasure generation cards, so may like smothering tithe, curse of opulence. or even with powerstones from Karn, living legacy! cheating it into play would be preferable to casting it with mana from treasure generation. magda would use this.
holy shit. i really didn't read this when it came out, i thought it was only one mana per artifact sacrificed! edit: wanted to add that you can sac your food tokens, etc.
This thing better wins you the game when activated, there are so many ways to Disenchant etc. it won't stay around for long on the 'field. Like the Immortal Sun from Ixalan, another 6 cast artifact that was usually destroyed on the spot. 😀
Hahahaha at this point just keep em coming ...only gilded has survived.. .it's like a godzilla film ..the mad scientist will always make another Frankenstein
"MOM! MOM, can we stop and get Black Lotus?!" "No dear, we have Black Lotus at home"..... "MOOOOOM! I DON'T WANT RADIANT LOTUS I WANT REAL BLACK LOTUS! IT TASTES BETTER!😭!"
Someone might be able to pull some shenanigans with it. But if you're not winning on the spot with it, it seems a bit sucker-y. As far a EDH goes, you can already make infinite mana for less than six mana and having other artifacts in play to combo with. It's a cool card, but I think it's not much more effective than a Guilded Lotus.
I share your Hate Moxman... Flag looks dumb and not Magic at all. It's also why will struggle with the UB's coming out later this year. My only hope is Dragonstorm... after that, it's going to be a dark winter on new sets and me buying anything.
If anything, this new lotus is going to require more THINKING. What color do you want multiples of, what artifacts sacrificed might have a payoff for having been sacrificed, do I have multiples of this new lotus to maybe create multiples of multiple colors... Aetherdrift is massively token-heavy and they are including some affinity for artifacts... the only thing I hate about the lotus and the set in general is the stupid checkerboard flag...
I think this card is only going to be good in decks that want to make a bunch of artifact/ artifact tokens. But even if people are looking to use it as part of combos, mosst combos can achieve what it wants without this. I speculate this card will be no more than $5-$10 at most.
"Hmm not everyone is going to want to buy our new racing set, what should we do? Do something that makes sense in the universe? Naaaaaah let's just print an incredibly busted card"
The first place border (or whate er tf they call it) is absolutely UGLY. Even the amonkhet invocation borders are so much better. Wizards seems half braindead sometimes.
Highly disagree with your ranking it higher than Nyx Lotus, I throw one in every one of my mono colored decks. As for Radiant Lotus, it will go bonkers in any deck that creates blood or clue tokens as well. Definitely a commander card for right now, but I’m guessing Bootleggers Stash will get a standard reskin in Final Fantasy or Marvel and be standard legal again.
LOOKS LIKE LOTUS IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS
GREAT LINE
Turn treasures to dark rits bb
Hurhurhurhur
Anyone else drooling over the thought of this in their decks with academy manufacturer? All those tokens sac for 3 mana? Sheeeeesh

@@MTGMOXMAN i actually bought like 6 academy manufacturers lately... for reasons.

They do specify non-token on other cards, so it not being here is entirely intentional.
@@chim007azo you do not have to sacrifice the Lotus itself to trigger the ability, it’s reusable.
Dockside Extortionist died for the terrible sins of the Radiant Lotus

Timeless lotus is awesome imo. I run 4 wubrg decks. It’s helped me many times.
Not he effect that bothers me, its the 5 mana one of each color
