I really enjoy how straight forward and even handed your reviews are. You're probably my favorite gMe reviewer because you get to the point! Thanks comrade
For real.. Game reviewing is such an oversaturated avenue on TH-cam... So I have so much respect to only a select few I can count on one hand.. And a lot of these other guys are just echo chambers, let's be real here.. 😪 it gets tiring.
Also props for Mystic Warriors, I believe that game could have been done on the SNES since Sunset Riders was able to make the transition to home. I think I may have mentioned this in the last video, but Metamorphic Force is another game that gets overlooked, it's by Konami and is a LOT like X-Men. If this is your first time hearing of it I suggest checking it out.
Dude! Just yesterday I was looking all over trying to find what was called the arcade game where a guy rides a dragon. Then you come today and boom, Dragon Breed. No wonder why this has been my favorite channel for some years now. Thnx so much.
I know this isn't on topic and the content I do is completely different from yours. But your channel is one that really made me want to create my own. I was really uncomfortable on camera and this really showed me that you can keep an audience captivated with a good script and voice over. Thanks for all the great videos and confidence boost.
Oh yes, Mystic Warriors... One of my favorite all-time 2D action games. It is just so fun to pick up and jump into the chaos. Bucky 'O Hare arcade is also pretty fantastic to play. Great stuff, man.
5:12 Holy shit...I remember playing this game alot in the arcade down the street from me when I was a kid. I couldn't ever remember the name of it, so I started to doubt whether it was a real game or not. That's so awesome that you put it on the list. Now I can go find it and relive my childhood!
Good list, I am aware of most of the games in this list. I want to add some more you probably didn't hear about, which never got a snes release: - Phozon A very unusual puzzle game never seen before. The player catches and builds up a molecule pattern, which is given in the center of the field - Rescue Reminds me Choplifter, but on see with sharks. - Capcom Sports Club 3 sport games in 1 with comical graphics and a ridiculous small field, even on the soccer game. That makes it very fast action and fun. - Puzzle & Action Ichidant-R Typical crazy Japanese mini games to solve in short time by Sega. Off course this came out to Genesis and because it is from Sega, there was no chance for a Snes version in these days. - Scud Hammer Strange Japanese game, where you just play Rock-paper-scissors with your opponent and if you win, you can knock him with amusing animations. - Avenging Spirit Side scrolling game with the twist that you can posses enemies with your soul and control them. - Risky Challenge An interesting mix of puzzle game to reach exit and Tetris. - Osman Many ex-Capcom staff including Kouichi Yotsui (credited as Isuke), worked on the original arcade version of Strider and designed Osman as an unofficial sequel to Strider. Yotsui directed both titles.
@Jester The Jynxster Oh, I think you are right. I forgot to check before send the comment. But anyway, take it as a reminder. Avenging Spirit btw was ported for the Game Boy, leaving out Snes, Genesis or even Nes. Crazy, isn't it?
The NES Bucky O'Hare was never intended as a port of the Arcade game, aside from the fact that the NES game is a Megaman type of game and the Arcade game is an isometric shoot em up type of game (not to mention both games have completely different levels and stories) the NES game came out several months before the Arcade game. (NES Bucky O'Hare was released in January of 1992, Arcade Bucky O'Hare was released in September of 1992) You need to check your information better.
The funny thing you said about Magician Lord being a "coin-muncher" is that a lot of arcade games did that; the developers made their arcade games intentionally super difficult but just difficult enough for you to continue playing so you'd spend more money. Not only that, but the arcade managers can reprogram the credits system to fix the amount of credits to play. One great example of a "coin-muncher" is GP Racer by NEOGEO. GP Racer is a motorcycle racing game that's decent, but the game centralizes on a 3-minute timer for your game. You have 3-minutes of gameplay before the game pauses to show a continue box right in the middle of the screen that tells you to put in more credits to continue playing. These kinds of arcade games were the EA of their time.
Nice work, good knowledge too. The three wonders was weird , I played it back jn the day and kind of thought I’d muddled myself up as i remember it being a shooter and platform too which then sort of blurred into a memory of wonder kid monster lair 4 ( I think ) the shoot em up one . Good times .
I remember getting a Dragon Breed arcade PCB for $35 back in 1995 from a seller in a the Rec-Games-Video-Arcade-Collecting newsgroup. In those pre-eBay days, you had to watch for new posts frequently during the day so you wouldn't miss out. Me & another seller responded within 5 minutes of the posting, and I only got it because the seller did a coin-flip to decide who got it. Sadly, with the Genesis having a maximum of only 20 sprites per vertical scanline, I don't think a Sega conversion would've worked without encountering a prohibitive amount of flickering. It really is amazing that the Sega had as many horizontally-scrolling shooters as it did considering that limitation.
Some of these should've come home in on way or another and it's so obvious, but I can't understand why. A top down Ghostbusters shooter should've been a thing and and Asterix beat em up even more. Good video. Great choices man!
There is this amazing and brutal arcade beat em up from my childhood. I can't find out what it is but I just remember it's set in a medieval setting. Your character can ride tigers/dragons. Your weapon was a whip/chain and you when you faught larger enemies, you can wrap the chain around the enemies head and spin around until they're decapitated. This is going back to the mid - late eighties.
Red Earth has a graphical style that absolutely engages me. It's clearly 2D graphics but they're done so well that it has an element of a 3D feel to it. Really cool!
I never knew there was an arcade game of Bucky O'Hare, I played the Snes game though. Such an underrated cartoon, I think I still have some of the toys somewhere. The 90's were the end of those magic days. We need that magic back smh...
Except for the number of slots and the cabinet, Neo Geo was basically the same system at home. They both used the same cartridges, which cost around $200-$300 each. I owned one for a while. It was awesome
Yeah most of these would suffer in performance if moved to SNES, but all these games would have probably survived as pretty good ports on the PSX... I know you have said you don't plan on doing many PSX reviews in the future but this foolish heart still hopes (think about it, there are a lot of games like these, Its not all just early 3D titles straining to render polygons). Also think how the intro would sound *PSSSSSSSSSX Drunk*. It's amazing. Anyway, love you work, thanks.
I bet that the same guy who did Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier music made the music in Bucky O Hare too!! They are amazing and have the the same fantastic vibe!!!
Where I live no one ever saw - neither even knew about the existence of - a Warzard/Red Earth machine, so it was only one of those games that we relied on emulation to play it. The thing is: for YEARS (back then) the CPS-3 wasn't emulated, so this game kinda felt like a myth. It felt like Christmas when I finally played it, and damn, it was great as one might imagine - as far as Arcade fighters go. Certainly could have got a PS1 or (more probably) a DC/PS2 home release. Until now I have never heard about this Metamoqester, looks crazy. Might give a try!
Great video sir. There's a SNES side scrolling game called NIGHTMARE... something, with little guys throwing playing cards. It's basically a reskinned hack of midnight wanderers. Same thing as iron commando which is a reskinned hack of the punisher. Decent games tho.
I remember playing Midnight Wanderers and Chariot of the Three Wonders arcade multigame board in my neighborhood arcade back when I was young in my old household. Also, The Red Earth (aka Warzard) characters have appeared in later Capcom games: Tessa is playable in Pocket Fighter/Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, while Kenji and some of the boss characters are playable in Capcom Fighting Evolution. I also played Mystic Warriors one time on MAME though. I hope PuLiRuLa will be in the next "Best Arcade Games" video.
I remember, when I was young, I played "Asterix and Obelix" and as far as I can remember, there were pretty much similarities to this. It's a long time ago, so I can be wrong, but as I said, that's what I remember.
scar89 i just searched for it and a&o on the snes is a jump'n'run. You'll find a playthrough on youtube. I was just so disappointed as a kid it was never released for a console and I tried out all the others (or so I thought).
0:50 Yes! I thought I was the only one who remembered Cybernator. I never see anyone talk about that game. Easily one of my favs from the SNES. 2D side scrolling action perfection.
But there is a Hook game for the SNES. You reviewed it. I just happened to watch the video today. And there is also an Asterisk game for the SNES. You reviewed that too.
"Turtles in Time" got an excellent SNES port, the Genesis got "Hyperstone Heist" and there was a bevy of decent emulations of the series on NES and Game Boy. There's no reason to think that Konami couldn't have ported their other arcade beat 'em ups to the 16-bit home consoles. In fact, considering that they were all based on the same engine anyway, I suspect that the only reason that they didn't was some sort of licensing issue.
Walt Disney World Circa Oct. 1991 Caribbean Beach Resort arcade had Three Wonders and it was accidentally set to "Free Play" needless to say I played the hell out of that every morning during breakfast.
Ahahaha~! The arcade Asterix game was a bit of a surprise, I hadn't seen that one yet. I remain hopeful that you'll try the comics for yourself one day, mind. They are a lot of fun and in fact have inspired several American comics as well. For part four though, mind taking a look at some of the 90's puzzlebobble games too? (shoot bubbles of diff colours to match 3/4/5/etc.) Or at least some other genre games? There are a lot out there that are worth a play even if they aren't Shmup/Bemup/Rungun. =D
I know you mean the "insert coin to continue", but funnily enough, double dragon 3 did have the original micro transactions as we know them today. You could insert coins to unlock extra moves, extra characters etc...
There is a game for the Gameboy with Asterix and Obelix, but I'm not sure how similar it is to the arcade version. I only played the first level or so, because then you'd have to play Rugby and I never got around this
Shame that Asterix and Obelisx never caught on in North America. As a kid I'd go the library just to look for Asterix adventures. Those books were works of art in my opinion and deserve recognition.
Man, I had no idea there even was a Real Ghostbusters arcade game like Shock Troopers or Alien Syndrome. What the heck. I gotta go check that out - to the emulators!
Red Earth was a fun one- but (The Real) Ghostbusters went thru some quarters (being one of the few video games by the maternal grandparents place, and the most fun one (with continues- Arkanoid got a few too))
Dude, I'm trying to find an arcade game back in the mid 80s early 90s. It was 3/4 overhead and your were an astronaut looking person trying to save people from aliens in a mall. The aliens had like popsicle heads, and there were lots of escalators.
MvC had a little elf archer as an assist attacker. Now I know he was from Three-Wonders. I never played or heard of Red Earth, but bought Capcom Fighting Evolution. Those Red Earth characters, like an over-sized T-Rex and Squid, were unusual to have as characters in a fighting game at the time. imo
The Messenger has a part of the game where you're riding a dragon that looks almost like what's in Dragon Breed. It's 16-bit awesomeness and that section must have been inspired by this arcade. So in a small way, you did get your wish.
Fun fact: Red Earth was 1 of only 6 games made for Capcom's CPS3 arcade board, the other 5 being the two versions of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and the three versions of Street Fighter III.
It's crazy man, it's like the arcades essentially had their own 16-bit era while the Snes/Gen/Turbo had theirs. Missed out on so many games, too many, kind of downs me. Why couldn't more of these games at least be ported to the Ps1 or Saturn.
I had Ghost busters on C64 it cost £2.99 (so about $5) that's why Ioved it, you could buy a couple of games per week, so I didn't matter if they were awful. It was a massive shock when i got my NES, then it was at the most 4-5 games per year.
I remember renting an Asterix game for the.... NES or Genesis... forgot which. It was a side platformer and pretty fun. Now The Real Ghostbusters game was Awesome!!! We used to have an arcade with the 3 person multiple stick setup! I remember 20 years ago going to an arcade auction in Atlanta (bring your own power cord) and 'testing' games and TRG was there! Gosh I hate we didn't get a home version of that on ANY system. Great game. Miss it... and Revenge of Death Adder. As many retro games Sega was chugging to the 360 was surprised they didn't add it. Shame. At least we got the 2 D & D arcade games not imported any more! (Cough) (Saturn)....
Konami in the 90 and early 2000 was pure quality. I remember it being one of my favorite company along with Capcom. What happened man? And also Frankenstein's "monster" reminds me.of silicon valley!

I remember Sunset Riders and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Never got to play them though. Serious time warp rn.

Thanks for watching

beat-em-ups need to make a comeback. What they could do now would be so freakin amazing
Good list, I am aware of most of the games in this list. I want to add some more you probably didn't hear about, which never got a snes release:
- Phozon
A very unusual puzzle game never seen before. The player catches and builds up a molecule pattern, which is given in the center of the field

- Capcom Sports Club
3 sport games in 1 with comical graphics and a ridiculous small field, even on the soccer game. That makes it very fast action and fun.
- Puzzle & Action Ichidant-R
Typical crazy Japanese mini games to solve in short time by Sega. Off course this came out to Genesis and because it is from Sega, there was no chance for a Snes version in these days.
- Scud Hammer
Strange Japanese game, where you just play Rock-paper-scissors with your opponent and if you win, you can knock him with amusing animations.
- Avenging Spirit
Side scrolling game with the twist that you can posses enemies with your soul and control them.
- Risky Challenge
An interesting mix of puzzle game to reach exit and Tetris.
- Osman

@Jester The Jynxster

Avenging Spirit btw was ported for the Game Boy, leaving out Snes, Genesis or even Nes. Crazy, isn't it?
Tuncay G Perhaps
Tuncay G
Awesome list man! I agree. You into the psp? I do custom ones I'm working on better arcade emulation ur list reminded me of a few titles.
TimothyTim PSP Nope. I use Raspberry Pi and my PC. If I get a PSP would be awesome.
I loved Asterix as a kid in the arcades during my holidays in Italy and it is still a great game today. Shame it was never released on any console.
I've played Asterix in my children Years
The game was so great.😀
Great video, I have never even heard of half these games. Thanks!
These are awesome! Adding to my retro game collection, thank you sir 😁
Hell yes
My boy is slowing gaining some subs! Right on! 100k is right around the corner.
so nice to see 3 Wonders
Ruf-iii-oooh!

Gotta throw some of these in my 4player arcade I'm almost done building. Thanks brada!
Some of these games could definitely be ported to the Snes.
Bucky O'Hare was my absolute favorite at the arcade when I was a kid. I spent all my coins usually on it.
Love you episodes man. So much nostalgia
5:11 These games are also available on the Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium compilation.
Some of these should've come home in on way or another and it's so obvious, but I can't understand why. A top down Ghostbusters shooter should've been a thing and and Asterix beat em up even more.

I agrre with you, Konami use to Kick ass during the 90's. Nowdays thier games are not as original nor fun, especially after they fired Kojima
last Sc even before Kojima departs. They killed a lot of good IPs
Not even sure they even MAKE games anymore, aside form Pachinko and FIFA.
SNES Drunk, making it worth getting up so early in the morning.
Amen, coffee just doesn't cut it.
True. You guys know if bucky o'hare had a cartoon?
How can I play hook? On a pandora?
@@fidelsolis6070 Multiple emulators will do, MAME being the more popular choice for arcade games.
I wouldnt go that far .if the only reason you get up in the morning is snesdrunk uploads get some help.
Cool video dude ! Thumbs up!
Now I have to get some of those games I didn't know existed!
Very cool collection of games. The real ghostbusters game reminds me of Alien Storm on SEGA.
Let's kick some toad! I miss Bucky O' Hare. Gaming was great back then...still good now but no real arcade beat em ups anymore.
0:30 The placement of that joystick... LMAO !
I'm glad someone brought up Hook the Arcade game. I feel like I was the only one that played/remembers it in my area.. lol
One arcade beat 'em up I really liked was Warriors of Destiny. I used to play that all that time. I never played Gaeaopolis, but it always looked fun.
I never knew there was an arcade game of Bucky O'Hare, I played the Snes game though. Such an underrated cartoon, I think I still have some of the toys somewhere. The 90's were the end of those magic days. We need that magic back smh...

Loved Bucky O'Hare. Used to play it all the time whenever we went to Chuck E Cheese.
I bet that the same guy who did Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier music made the music in Bucky O Hare too!! They are amazing and have the the same fantastic vibe!!!
Some great games there! Should make a massive collection of these and port to PS4/Xbox
Great video you just earned a suscriber 😎
Asterix got a home console release to the Master System and Genesis. Hook got a release on the SNES.
As with Squirrel King (Chip and Dale) on the Mega Drive, their was a damn good unlicenced MD port of Don’t Pull called Smart Mouse
The voice sample at 4:43, and the transformation itself, looks a lot like Mizuki and her dog-demon in Samurai Showdown 2.
great video. my 5 and 7 year old cant stop playing 3 wonders.

I remember the Willow arcade game. Never knew that there was a Hook arcade game.
willow???? i loved that movie when i was younger. i dont even remember a willow game.....was it any good?
Great video sir. There's a SNES side scrolling game called NIGHTMARE... something, with little guys throwing playing cards. It's basically a reskinned hack of midnight wanderers. Same thing as iron commando which is a reskinned hack of the punisher. Decent games tho.
I absolutely love this channel ...
I loved the inclusion of Dragon Breed, though the Irem shoot 'em up I really wanted to see on SNES was X-Multiply. :P
I might note that Magician Lord was an arcade game...on the *Neo Geo* cabinets, which is why it ended up on the Neo Geo home systems...
Also Dragon Breed is on the Retrocade, which I guess constitutes as a home console
I love these arcade vids
I've never seen any of these but they all look awesome
8rb1 how did you go back in time and make this comment?
8rb1 nevermind. Patreon
Max Jones early release vids for paying patrons

We don't speak about Capcom Fighting Evolution... Not ever.
There were at least two Asterix and Obelix games released here in the PAL-region. They are pretty similar to what you have shown in the video. :)
scar89 i haven't seen a single one like it. This is a Beat'em up, the other ones I've seen were Jump'n'Runs.
I remember, when I was young, I played "Asterix and Obelix" and as far as I can remember, there were pretty much similarities to this. It's a long time ago, so I can be wrong, but as I said, that's what I remember.

Yeah there's over twenty Asterix games released for home consoles.
+scar89 The only other beat'em up appeared on the GBA.
0:50 Yes! I thought I was the only one who remembered Cybernator. I never see anyone talk about that game. Easily one of my favs from the SNES. 2D side scrolling action perfection.
Hook got an SNES port, both arcade and SNES versions were really fun

Love your videos. They are very professional! But I was hoping you could do more genesis related ones?
Asterix had a Snes European release i think. Hook also has a version, but it may be different.
Walt Disney World Circa Oct. 1991 Caribbean Beach Resort arcade had Three Wonders and it was accidentally set to "Free Play" needless to say I played the hell out of that every morning during breakfast.
Dragon Breed looks super original, that gameplay looks fun
Played a bunch of these when I was a kid, so many great 4 player games tho on arcade.
Ahahaha~! The arcade Asterix game was a bit of a surprise, I hadn't seen that one yet. I remain hopeful that you'll try the comics for yourself one day, mind. I didn't even know some of these properties had arcade games, like Hook or Real Ghostbusters. All I knew about was the Hook game for SNES.
Arcade games had the original micro transactions....and the games didn’t even belong to you!
and now barely anyone can play them in their original form
Come to my place and bring your quarters, I own a Neo Geo MVS 2 Slot ;)
I do still LOVE an arcade. I can’t find any in the U.K.
I only played the first level or so, because then you'd have to play Rugby and I never got around this
Oh Neat.
Never knew there was a Ghostbusters arcade game.
😄👍
Shame that Asterix and Obelisx never caught on in North America. As a kid I'd go the library just to look for Asterix adventures. Those books were works of art in my opinion and deserve recognition.
midnight resistance and elevator action 2 are two of my faves arcades to never get an snes port...
I hope you have a great rest of your day, too!
That ghostbusters laser gun would drive me insane
Great list :)
5:11 oh hey, that one assist from MVC
Bucky O' Hare was barely released in arcades due to the show's cancelation. Still a great list, I'd love to play Red Earth at some point.
I hope you have a great rest of your day too!
I got Asterix on Switch, they did a nice collectors edition but dunno if its the same game
A super good beat em up, in my opinion, is Metamorphic Force.
I had Ghost busters on C64 it cost £2.99 (so about $5) that's why Ioved it, you could buy a couple of games per week, so I didn't matter if they were awful. It was a massive shock when i got my NES, then it was at the most 4-5 games per year.
Dragon breed could definitely work on the SNES as it did have an Amiga port (and a competent one at that)
I remember renting an Asterix game for the....
I still remember the theme song for the Bucky O'Hare TV show, it burned itself into my brain. I never knew what happened to the show though.
He goes where no ordinary rabbit would dare, of course you remember that,
I love these videos dude
Konami in the 90 and early 2000 was pure quality. I remember it being one of my favorite company along with Capcom. What happened man?
And also Frankenstein's "monster" reminds me.of silicon valley!
