Was there on the 27th June 1987. It's still the greatest gig I have ever seen, that was U2 at their peak, the unforgettable fire in 85 and the Joshua tree in 87. Was only 15 at the time, the year I did my inter. Was on pitch level for Light a big fire, the pogues and dubliners, and Lou reed. Up in the hogan when Bono came out, and will never forget the whole of croker bouncing up and down to streets have no name, hairs still stand on back of neck watching it. That pure raw energy will never be
The version from Brussels a few days after this one is even better. Take a look: th-cam.com/video/uS_ngt4d2TQ/w-d-xo.html ... I've never seen a more passionate Bono.
was there on 27th june 1987 and I was 20. I still have the original ticket. I can see myself on this video. My three daughters loved it. I guess I was the only Brazilian in the crowd.
Was at the same gig with my mates and it was totally unbelievable that day on the pitch it was fucking rockin' and what a song to start a stadium gig and like everyone else I seen the documentary (World in Action) and I remember seeing the crowd at the beginning and thinking I was in that!!! thanks for posting it brings back a load of memories (good ones!) cheers
lucky u !✌❤💜must have been some GOOSEbumps!! would have gone if were possible absolutely blow my mind every time just the first 3 notes/chords and the feeling erupts in me tinglingfrom head to toe to the heart!😍💓🍀🍀🍀Ireland I love you and U2
lucky you, LOL. I was there myself. tbh, I thought '85 was better. They were still raw and awesome and the support acts were incredible, REM, The Alarm and Squeeze. I can't remember who supported them in '87 but I have a feint recollection of The Dubliners and the Pogues? Who else?
@Barry Obama Aha, well done you, Lou Reed of course. Light a big fire rings a bell alright, I know the name, can't say I remember them play though, but I do remember In Tua Nua in '85 also. First act on around 3.30 I think on a lovely Summers day. Great times Barry.
I've seen U2 many many times and always great. RDS Jan82, SFX Dec 82, Phoenix Park 83, Croke Park 85, Self-Aid 86 and all later tours up to most recent where I couldn't get a feckin ticket but Croke Park 87 is the best concert I have ever been to. I was 21 years old, 50 yards from the stage. Following the final support act, Lou Reed, there was a gap, which if remember correctly was mostly filled with Reggae tracks. As each one ended, everyone wondered was this it? Then another would start up. Eventually, one ended followed by maybe 30 seconds of silence. This was enough to send the crowd wild. Then I heard the first note of a synth. Very deep and barely audible, but 80,000 people knew exactly what it was and that it was all about to kick off. I think Larry came on stage first. I can remember him banging the two drumsticks together, followed by Adam and The Edge, who just played a few notes for a final soundcheck perhaps. Then the magical moment as The Edge's guitar riff starts and the rest you can see in this video. This was U2 at their most powerful and magical. Unforgettable stuff.
Has hecho q se me enchine la piel tan solo imaginar el estar ahí con tus palabras me transportaste a lo innimaginablemente mágico y bello con mis poderosos U2
U2 broke park proshot 1987 OMG "where the streets have no name"I think that most of Ireland must have been at this concert!Amazing ... the vocals ...the best...that crowd-Great!The edge That vox sound and his raw awesome guitar kicks it up a notch...w/Larry!...always the perfect drumbeat and then ADAM ...DRIVING IT HOME!
Leeds was fuckin unbelievable on this tour, couldn't hear for days after or talk for two lol I've seen em all, Pistols, Clash, Metallica, Cure, ACDC and id be here forever naming others but they U2 on that night blew every band before and after( Toots and the Maytels were mind blowing however in 17) off that fuckun stage, game over and end of! You just got U2d They do it all the time, Actung Baby, Pop, shite album but fucked up live....Latest album is in my top four U2 albums and growing...has-beens, living off past glory? Fuck off envious people, thats what the once great stones do.
Look at that crowd. I’ve tried to describe to people what seeing a U2 concert was like in the 80s. War, UF, JT. I saw a lot. I always said it’s like you were flying. Like you weren’t even touching the ground. Almost like a religious experience.
I was there with 3 schoolmates. The Joshua Tree had already captured the US and this was a coming home gig. Nearly got crushed on the way into the ground, it was that packed. Six foot plus men were in tears! Great atmosphere though. There were 4 or 5 bands supporting that's why everyone in the crowd were sweating before U2 even came on. Superb cinematic set throughout, especially liked Running to Stand Still. Drove out of Dublin after and we all slept in the car in a thunderstorm!
correct my friend... my tickets for me and my mate booked pre sale on thursday..was there in 87.my parents paid for my edinburgh flight and ticket back then..i was 19..it will be awesome..if u see me from my you tube pic say hello in dublin..gonna be amazing
I was there with me aul mate Tommy.., will never ever forget that gig. Every one around us just blew up completely when they started to play. Absolutely went nuts!!!! Did you notice also, people were not standing around like gomless dummies holding their pathetic little mobile phones in the air?? Oh how things have changed....
this was my first u2 gig i went to see i was 21, i was with my pregnant girlfriend my daughters 24 now , this was a great day i was really pisses that day happy days!!!
now this is wat we dont get to c anymore. i was 17 at the time, ill never ever forget this gig, thanks for posting u2 mixer. this is the raw u2 energy that does not exist anymore, its just a hollywood stage these days.
this is magic with everyone bouncing up and down. seen them on this tour in edinburgh. still love seeing u2 but last i was up at the front and trapped behind some guy who did not join in any singing and spent the whole concert filming on his phone. dont understand why people do that at all.
Great to see this footage again. Was 18 at the time and went to both gigs with some mates. This is the first song of the Saturday gig. Can anyone remember what song they played first for the 2nd gig on the Sunday???
Caitlin Kinahan: No clue why I'm so sentimental today, but my Da took me to this concert in Dublin in his inevitably vein attempt to bribe me to go to St. Ignatius. But it was the best night of my life. And I graduated from Lab. ;-)
Ah the great memories of (probably) the best concert I was ever at! I see a posting above remarking on the big crowd surges, I was IN it and recall almost getting just feet from the front of the stage. One great day, I recall them starting off into "In Gods Country" immediately after this one.
good work hope we get more proshots turning up not including the ones we already have this show would be awesome starting to upload a few soundboard tracks from u2 today as iam bored lol
Emocionado por ir a verlos. Pero preocupado por la gente que estará en el celular todo el concierto. En estos tiempos la gente ya no disfruta de los eventos "en vivi."
Did you? Cool - and thanks you did an awesome job :-) Don't suppose you have anything you can upload? I do understand all the copyright issues you would face, though.
I was at this gig, my first one actually!!! Oh to be 17 again. I remember the centre of the joshua tree falling down! If you notice its missing behind the band.
Nice story. Hope you have a great time this time too ;) There are a lot of cool posts on here with fans remembering the gig - glad my upload had brought back good memories for you lot ;)
A great concert great support acts light a big fire, the dubliners & the pouges, lou reed flew over from glasgow saturday morning with old school m8 stayed for sunday show as well hsppy days
cant think of a better opening to a concert - saw them this tour at leeds - not the energy of their home town though - this opening still raises the hair on the back of my neck
was at this and only 18 and it still brings hairs out on back of neck , came down from belfast and they kicked ass that day never forget it ...fuckin magic gig at there best
Sometimes, I missed this time just with up-and-down, without smartphone. Nowadays, almost everybody concentrated in taking a movie clip for SNS in many live performances. I think that something's wrong, just oldman's view.
thank, you thank you very much, grazie mille for this awesome video!beautiful memories,j saw 15 u2 gigs since 1985!U2 and Simple Minds(watch this one /watch?v=f1iantgX5mY...Simple Minds live in croke park 1986..awesome!)are my fav band (with Muse and Radiohead)! cheers greetings from Italy!
Flat no no.nerves clearly got the better of the band that day.the 2nd show the following day was much better.as for cork 6 weeks later, the greatest u2 show ever.noting will ever top it.the stadium was seriously over crowded
well that's the thing. i was assuming that the pro-shot editors had full uncut footage but chose to repeat some scenes out of laziness or something... now that i know you put this together by making a full video out of only half the footage, i don't think it needs any tweaking at all!
No need to apologise. I just wanted to try and capture the atmosphere of the concert (and the song) by making a full video to go with what was available. Maybe it does need a tweak here and there ;)
dear u2mixer, i'm very sorry about my last comment. the first time i watched this i didn't read the "more info" details, and i assumed that the entire clip was one piece of pro-shot footage ripped from a bootleg DVD. i didn't realize you were stretching the raw footage to cover double the time, so once again i apologize.
Hello from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 & HNY.my 1st u2 show was 2yrs earlier THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE.it was also the first time u2 played croke park.ive being lucky to see all 10 shows in croker to date.but without putting a dampener on the post, ill never get over the disappointment of them only playing one show there in 2017.the reason, they couldn't get the screen back to Dublin in time to play on the fri 😪😪😪😪😪
now this is wat we dont get to c anymore. i was 17 at the time, ill never ever forget this gig, thanks for posting u2 mixer. this is the raw u2 energy that does not exist anymore, its just a hollywood stage these days.
Up up up up up up up boom! Just amazing.. gives me goosebumps every time!

Probably U2s best live version of this song hands down. These boys are on fire!
I agree best ever

Zoo TV is better.
Right there with Rotterdam on Popmart.

Bono's "Up Up Up....." at 1.09 - has been with me over 30 years...... thanks for bringing back the memory.
Traumatising lol
I was there. Utterly sublime.
Was at the same gig with my mates and it was totally unbelievable that day on the pitch it was fucking rockin' and what a song to start a stadium gig and like everyone else I seen the documentary (World in Action) and I remember seeing the crowd at the beginning and thinking I was in that!!!

The best gig I've ever been to - unbelievable, unforgettable, unrepeatable - and with a press pass!!!

Qué impactante tus palabras❤❤❤
Magnifique et intemporelle. Il y a U2 et les autres. Le meilleur groupe de rock de l’histoire de la musique avec les Beatles.
GREATEST. SONG. EVER. WRITTEN. period.
U KNOW YOUR STUFF
Honestly, you don’t get enough credit for this mix. This is mad good!
I was there with 3 schoolmates. The Joshua Tree had already captured the US and this was a coming home gig. Nearly got crushed on the way into the ground, it was that packed. That big crowd shove at 35 seconds. You'd never allow that now

You could have heard that crowd in Cork. 😛

No phones...looks heavenly
❤❤👏👏👏🥰😍😍😍
Trying to get 5:30 mins worth of video out of about 3 minutes of real footage was a hard job.
No need to apologise. I just wanted to try and capture the atmosphere of the concert (and the song) by making a full video to go with what was available. Maybe it does need a tweak here and there ;)
Simple the best Bonoooooooo
I was there.
