- I returned to The Orange Box to finish its achievements after first playing it in 2008 and constantly finding reasons to put it off.
A very fun collection of games that still hold up well to this day so if you haven't given it a go, I highly recommend.

I remember asking my mom for Portal 1 as a kid after beating the sequel and getting this on my birthday… I don’t think there’s ever gonna be a whole collection of games this great for a while.

I had portal 1, but when I asked my mom for the orange box she said "Don't you already have that?" cause of portal on it and she never got it for me ;w;
The one bullet challenge in episode 1 actually made the episode insanely fun. The way it makes you use Alex to attack for you, makes you use physics props to kill enemies, and otherwise has you utilise environmental hazards makes me appreciate the level design. I swear most of the game could be played like this after getting the gravity launcher, HL has to be my favourite series from Valve.
Launched grenades and energy balls were still allowed for that achievement.
You truly feel the demolition blood flowing at that playthrough, and I fucking love that the one bullet is used for a fucking lock
I still remeber going for one free bullet on like, my third Ep 1 playthrough. I somehow also managed to get the achievement where you escort all citizens safely on that same run.

I found the hardest HLE1 Achievement was "the One Bullet" where you are only allowed to shoot your gun once in order to open a gate and after that just grenades and stuff. It's not THAT hard but i remember how i got frustrated at one level. Nice video!

Me too. The Antlion Queen was really hard without using weapons in that small area.
the worst part for that for me was a savescum moment when i was at like 3 health and trying to get in the hospital. i had to go through this hallway with a gunship staring daggers through the windows and combine and zombies at the other end fighting over who can make me the most miserable
A friend told me about the achievement before I played the game, I somehow beat the game for the first time getting that achievement
Yeah it wasn’t that hard, u can use ur Crowbar, Grenades, RPG and Gravity Gun
I felt that when you said that you lost your save. I understand the pain. It is a shock, everything goes silent as you begin to realize what has happened.
That was such a good watch, I've got lots of nostalgia for playing The Orange Box (even though I did all my tf2 in 2010-2013 on Steam)

Brother it's super easy to get your saves from the 360 to the newer Xboxes. Just upload them to cloud storage from your 360's hard drive settings on the dashboard, and they'll automatically be downloaded when you boot the game on X1/SX. Orange box is enhanced on new gen too, runs at 4K.
This is actually pretty impressive.
I played through HL2 EP2 for the first time while also doing the Little Rocket Man achievement.
It probably ruined my enjoyment of the playthrough when I look back at it.
I think i did exactly the same thing and i'd probably agree.
Although I do love achievements I try to just do my first playthrough without looking anything up these days (guides/missable achievements etc) and then go back to mop up the gamerscore.

The Orange Box and subsequently the Valve Complete Pack (during Steam sales) are the greatest deals in gaming history, especially the Valve Complete Pack. It used to be an amazing deal at 20$ back in the day and now its costs something like 5$ during sales which is an absolute steal (but it also lost CSGO in the meantime so I guess it kinda still costs the same if you want csgo too, but its still such a steal)
CS:GO has actually been free for years, unless you want Prime

Also, I have to take a second to appreciate the fact that Jack took the time to play out Half-life just to show the entirety of a piece of gaming history. It really shows your passion for gaming as a whole, not just focused on pumping out content. Mad respect man 😎👍🏻👌🏼

I think one of the hardest achievements I ever did was Portal 2 Multiplayer. Had two controllers and did the whole thing with one hand on each. I must have looked like spiderman.

i remember struggling SO much with this achievement! the only ones i'm missing from this game is the grub achievement from ep2, which i've failed at getting several times; and the "play with 7 people from your friends list" achievement from TF2, which i don't even know if it's still possible to achieve
I believe it is you'll just need to coordinate! Someone in the comments said there's a discord going for Xbox tf2 these days so I'm sure you could get it with help from that!
@@JForJackPlays that sounds like an idea, my attempts at getting this achievement as a kid just amounted to joining games and spam adding everyone to my friends list, hoping enough people would accept my request to get the achievement. but then with the people that actually accepted it, i was too shy and awkward to actually try to like, talk to or try to coordinate to get into a team together lol... so it eez what it eez.

The term for it is called accelerated back hopping or ABH for short, it's a form of bunny hopping. You can do it on console because it's an updated version of the game which doesn't allow people to do it and that version doesn't exist on the Xbox and PS3 versions however in my experience performing an ABH on controller is incredibly difficult.

@@JForJackPlays The reason for that is the nature of ABH. It's because you need to jump tons in a single second. Pressing a button on a controller can be done about 8 times per second if you use your index finger, but, you can can use a mouse wheel, which would yield 50+ jumps per second. To enable it on a PC, enable the dev console, press ~ (the dev console key) then type "bind mwheelup +jump", then "bind mwheeldown +jump". After that ABH is enabled. I can barely do it, even on mouse/keyboard.
To do ABH, jump, turn around in mid-air, then start scrolling the scroll wheel fast. If done correctly, you move at lightning speed backwards.
Other glitches that should be mentioned if not already:
Prop climbing/item glitch (HL2 + Portal): Go up against a wall with an item. Put an item below you, and start spamming the A and X buttons intermittently. This allows you to climb walls.
Edge glitch/save glitch (Portal only): I have never been able to do this. Shoot a portal directly under you, along with another portal in any other spot. If this is done correctly, you'll get stuck. Then once you're stuck, save and load. Suddenly, you'll be able to go out of bounds.

For the broken bridge in half life 2 there is a way on controller to cross it which also uses ABH. It's harder to pull off but still very possible just takes some practice
he could've just used the gravity gun to blast the car out of the water, it's how you get it unstuck any time you can't move it by driving

Hello the same guy who posted that it's possible to skip Highway 17 all the way to the light house on Sand traps.
And after 6 days, I can confirm that it's possible.
Idk how, but towards the light house the game checks for the car, and some dialogue is skipped if you left the car behind before you hit the first loading zone during Highway 17. Idk if it's possible to leave the car afterwards. I do know that the train part where you have to outrun an oncoming train apparently counts as destroying the car even if you left it nearby. But it is possible with some grenade jumping and either 75% or full health and suit.
After the initial dialogue skip with the lighthouse the game proceeds as usual.
Notable things that can happen that many people may know
The gunship where you find the first salvage of cars doesn't appear.
As stated above, the oncoming train section will count the car being destroyed if it's left behind that specific section.and the player decided to walk/run the tracks on foot.
If the car is left behind in highway 17, ( maybe a bit later) you can just walk along the guard rail thing to avoid the train and proceed as normal.
I've only had this happen to me twice, but in that same train section where you need to lower the shielding barrier thing, sometimes a gunship doesn't spawn, however the usual things still happen.
That's all I can gather from my testing.
It's possible to go through Highway 17 and Sand traps on foot.
Watch for antlions and roller mines, lol

I did this one one a back in 2022. Aperture science is a pain but you can lower the difficulty of the challenges by exploiting the shoot portals anywhere cheat and then saving before the end of the level going to dash and going back in to finish the challenge with sv_Cheats disabled and it will give you the completion.
The challenges were designed around the kb/m in mind with a controller it's brutal.
You can go to 360 Settings and upload the save to the cloud so when you move to One/Series the data is there
Nah man, Aperture Science achievement was pure pain. I did it in the OG portal and then did it again recently in RTX portal. Fuck that lmao.
Aperture Science is BRUTAL. The only way I managed to pull it off was through using out of bounds exploits in several challenges.

@@SuperTerminator123 Not with sv_cheats or cheat tools, more just the typical out of bounds portalling glitches so commonly used by speedrunners.

there's actually out-of-bounds tricks for 15, 16, 17, and 18 to save lots of steps and time.

8:42 one of my mates actually learned how to ABH (accelerated back hop) using a controller. It is pretty hard to do and is a lot easier using a controller with paddles like a Scuf or Xbox Elite Controller, but it is definitely possible lol
The Orange Box was such a no-brainer I bought the game(s) before I even got my 360.

That “crossing the beach without touching the sand” achievement for Half-Life 2 is one I went for 20 times…but never got. I’m not sure if it’s because you have to do it in one go without saving between planks, but I know I’ve done it before at least 6 times/ 20!

When this first came out I didn’t have WiFi or anything so I could never play the tf2 game
I got all gold medals for portal 1 but didn't get all the achievements because the achievements were completly broken on steam for me so there is still 2 achievements remaining but I would like to think that I DID get all of them...but for portal 2 I got about if I can remember 51/57 achievements for portal 2...it is extremely hard because of co-op :(

the xbox 360 intro gave me goosebumbs
At that broken bridge, you can grab a box and item hop on the cliff over to the left, just change your jump to bumper and mash that jump and item grab against, I've cleared half life 2 console without the car and item hopping over most of scripts. I was poor and raised on orange box, and the amount of glitches you can learn to do on controller is uh actually rather limited but hey you can clear half the game by hoping over walls with a box or barrel

I remember the gnome achievement, it was a fun challenge, so was the one for only using 1 bullet in HL2:E1.
For some reason I could never find all the grubs, or save all the building from destruction outside the missile silo.

The Tf2 xbox community is bustling, I should know this because im apart of the discord, sometimes you just gotta get lucky and hope servers are available
Here are my only 3 HARDEST Achievements in The Orange Box for me:
1. Keep Off The Sand! Cross the antlion beach in Chapter 8: Sandtraps without touching the sand. (Half Life 2)
2. The One Free Bullet Complete all of the game firing only one shot. Grenades, SMG Grenades are allowed, Gun Turrets are allowed, Rockets, Crowbar, or the Gravity Gun and NOTHING ELSE. Those ONLY 6 are okay! (Half Life 2: Episode One)
3. Little Rocket Man Send the garden gnome into space. Keep the gnome under the shelf throughout the whole game from Chapter 1: To The White Forest all the way up to Chapter 6: Our Mutual Fiend and then put the gnome into the rocket to shoot him off into space and close the hatch and then the achievement will unlock. (Half Life 2: Episode Two)

I’m all for playing on original hardware, but if you wanted to play on modern day Xbox just put the 360 save into the cloud on the 360. Then when you play on newer Xbox it’ll automatically pull this save

I know that it is possible to go with out the car in the very start of that chapter and not have the game soft lock.
I think it's because you need to either trigger the lighthouse or something. But I know it's possible. I've done it multiple times after grenade/SMG grenade jumping over the gap.
I may need to to experiment again, I still use my Xbox 360 even though I have a PS4.
Still, nice job on the achievements. Shame that the file was gone but using a guide for the achievement was the best bet since you already had most of them anyway.

One time, I joined a modded tf2 match on the Orange Box. One of the things that match did was unlock every single achievement for the orange box. I definitely worked hard for that lmao

i know i am really late for this, but if you download of 360 profile on usb chip, you transfer it to your xbox one.
The PC version does have the Aperture Science AP.
Funny seeing the Orange Box on release on console had 99 achievements when modern day TF2 alone has over 500

I honestly had the most fun with portal challenges, I rarely do any challenges in games, but portal was my jam. Getting a score that was above the gold medal was delicious. Except for the time challenges. Those weren't interesting to me.
That's to say "difficult" can be very subjective.
Accelerated backhopping etc is possible on a controller it's just more funky and sometimes you can do it and sometimes not because it's a bit tricky.

i have a PS3 and xbox 360, both are my mother's and i found the orange box from this box of PS3 and xbox 360 games, and it was amazing when i first played it
naturally the first game i played was HL2
