There is a big realization here (for some time now) - I should have been working on this kind of basic training/playing a long time ago. A lot of what you pass along with your channel is immediately available to have some fun with in the process of learning. It has taken me a while but this channel is one of what I have managed to thin my lesson searches down to. Another excellent session, thanks.

I kinda knew some of this, but didn't really grasp all the pieces, but you explained everything so well, and even showed ways to practice the ideas, that this made everything sync up and really hit home. Why is it that I have watched a billion video lessons on playing scales and modes (most of them produce by very competent Players!) but this is one of the VERY few that actually gets me "up and running" in a practical manner, where I can play like I know what I am doing?!? Thanks Brian!
This is an amazing lesson. Need lots more Triad embellishment lessons. And they must contain intervals, music theory. So many are scared to use music theory in their lessons. It's like if they do, no one will watch. They just say, hammer here, or put your finger here, without the "why" to do it. (Just subscribed.)
I thought it was helpful to think of Major pentatonic as 12356. Minor pentatonic: 13457. Major scale there’s a half step between 3,4/7,1. Minor: 2,3/5,6. Mixo: 3,4/6,7. For me, I find it incredibly easier to remember scales and modes by their half steps.
Perfect timing for this lesson! Over the weekend I jammed with 3 friends. I am intermediate and they were all quite accomplished. Sometimes I played only the low E string on the correct fret in order to keep up.
Wow. This was great, Brian--and easy! I was able to play the tune right after you played it for us. Now I'll practice by making up my own tunes using the scale with other chords, using that same triad shape. The only thing is, now i have to figure out the other Mixolydian shapes that go with other chord triads. I do remember one that you taught us that goes with the E shape. I guess I'll sound it out, cuz now i know how to find mixolydian easily. Just flat the 7th. Feels good to get though a lesson and feel like it was only a review! That means I'm learning!

Super lesson to improvise with all the pieces given in a kit form. All we have to do is assemble it together with the variables. Not only a given arrangement to use but some examples within from the 6.50 mark are also handy to replicate.
Damn! A real lightbulb moment - I've always looked at the chord shapes on the front of the patterns - not at the back of them! I've got to go and think about this for a long time; it's already making me think about soloing slightly differently... and right now - I've realised I can go backwards as well - so much fun to be had out of this especially when I start playing with this idea on some simple folk songs (to start with)!
Brian, just want to say thanks for all these lessons. I have been playing for a long time and while I have been able to fake my way through things, I've always sort of felt like a fake lol. You have a way that works for me. The cost of a yearly subscription (which I have signed up for by the way), is peanuts compared to a few in person lessons!! i like this idea of the tirad as the center so to speak of the pentatonic. most lessons focus on root root root but i can 'see' the scale and the related chords better this way. thanks!

I agree…and also noting where the 1 1/2 step jumps are (related to the half step locations, of course)
That's good--to learn scales as intervals. If your can actually hear the intervals, that's even better...IMO!
