I’ve watched a lot of lessons on CAGED, and Brian, I can tell you in all honesty this lesson, this approach, is exactly what I need. It’s the best, most understandable, and most easily applied CAGED lesson I’ve ever seen. So a resounding “Yes!” from me in answer to your question whether you should turn this into a serious on the remaining CAGED shapes. Fantastic!
Hey Brian. Amazing lesson. Ties together so many elements that we struggle to integrate in our solos. 23:04 Thank you. And yes pls do a few lessons on the other shapes!! 23:04
Brian, this is another one of your great lessons. I just never put all the concepts into a box using chord from CAGE. Please think about a series using the other chord shapes. Thank you so much for your time and energy putting these lessons together for us.
Great 'Swiss Army Knife' analogy/package!! Doing the same thing with the other shapes is a fabulous idea. By doing that, the lights will come on that - the 5th string root note of the C shape is also The 5th string root of the A shape... Think of A as 'going north' and C is 'going south' off that 5th string root... (And the D shape is the 'southern' neighbor of the C shape) Again, great work!! I'm off to the printer cuz I love those PDFs!!
Definitely do all the CAGED shapes. Your approach is very useful to this player going on 60 years with the guitar. Keep it up- please and “thank you so very much.”
Hey there! Yes, please do all five positions! I’m a new student of yours. I love how you explain topics so thoroughly. I have had many light bulb moments in the short time I’ve been an active melody member! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!
That's what the chapters are good for, watch as much as you can absorb, practice it, then come back to finish the lesson once you're comfortable with what you've learned
Yes, all the theory can be overwhelming if you try to bite off more than you can chew. Believe me, if you can just stay with what he is doing in that four fret space (that is the E chord in a "C shape") and accept that you are doing nothing more than cowboy chords up the neck you can get a lot out of this. Let all the talk about scales, Mixolydian, Major/minor, the other CAGED shapes etc... go by, that stuff can be absorbed and will make more sense later. In the meantime you will have gotten a lot further ahead because of this lesson. Learn it. I wasted a lot time and opportunity to be a better player trying to "know" everything instead of putting more energy into just playing. You can do that with this lesson. The first goal of learning to play guitar is to enjoy playing. Sorry, I got a little carries away with this comment but I can tell from yours that you appreciate how good these lessons are. :)
Very good lesson which brings together many chunks of information from 500+ lessons. Please do a lesson on all 5 CAGED chords. ALSO - would you add a PDF of the scale patterns which appeared in passing on this video.
This was super helpful. Would be glad to see the other positions too. To be fair, there are some quality CAGED videos by Stich method and Bobby Harrison also has a super helpful CAGED video. The biggest problem for me though is always how to practice this effectively and turn it into real music.
Brilliant presentation Brian. I am NEVER BORED, rest assured, whenever I click on to your videos. Still recall your analogy of drawers regarding the Caged system. Excellent stuff. You exude such passion. It's palpable. You never leave the learner 'hanging at the edge of a cliff' Profoundly grateful and also guilty of not making a most deserved donation. Donation imminent. Warm regards from Sunny South Africa
Guthrie Trapp has a video on the the C shape. Brian, you outdid yourself again. I'm a premium and have been and I can't thank you enough for how you've helped me develop into the player I am today. Thank you us not enough
This is a terrific approach. I am late to the party, just starting at 78 and looking to go beyond the monkey see monkey do stage. You are clear and comprehensive about how the fretboard is organized musically.
Hi Brian, I would love to see the other shapes in a mini series. I have seen many videos about the CAGED system; and although I understand it, this video really shows the flexibility of the system. Keep posting excellent videos.
Great lesson as always. I love those eye opening- break through- ah ha moment lessons of yours. This lesson was one of them for me in a few areas. I had to stop the tape several times to ponder those moments and put it in perspective (for me) so that I got a grasp on those enlightenments. The best for me was near the end of the video where you went from C shape E chord to E shape A chord at the 18:00 minute mark of the video. This could be used for a one- four- five blues progression (when soloing). I can now easily move/transition from the one chord to the four chord in my blues solos....I only need to learn the E shapes of the cage system.....Then I believe I will be able to better visualize what's happening and where to go within that small area of the neck (when going from the one chord to the four chord in a blues solo) :) Very helpful in tying together what I already know without having to relearn it from scratch! I would love to see more of the same.
Nice lesson. I really like this information. I’m the guy you have to explain everything to. Even the things that should be obvious. For instance I’m an intermediate level of understanding the basics of the CAGED system. And it’s fun playing cord progressions higher up the neck, but I know there is more that can be done using the CAGED system that I can’t see. The problem for me is I don’t know, what I don’t know. So I can’t ask question that would help me grow and understand. So it takes someone like you to bring up lessons like this lesson that opens my eyes and I can learn and grow.
Really it’s essential that we know all 5 so please do. We also are going to need the navigation between the shapes. I very much hope you will follow up with that too. I am so grateful to have discovered your channel. I am a premium member and wish I could have known about you from the beginning of your channel some 10 years ago. You are the best. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Dude! I love it! Just found you yesterday and you are changing the way I play my friend! Would love a similar deep-dive/hack session on modes and scales in other shapes. Been playing beach guitar for my wife and kids the last 20 years but never took the time to “learn” outside of what feels and sounds good. CAGED and Circle of 5ths totally makes sense and my daily practice is now focused on scales and learning the fretboard. If you have any thoughts on the other patterns with similar tricks and tips my man… I am all ears! Thank you for taking me back to school! ❤ much love.
Excellent lesson Brian (as usual) would love to see the other shapes so you could show us how you relate them to the 1-4-5 example earlier in this video!! Really great stuff and helps a bunch! Thanks!!
Enjoyed this lesson very much for the amount of information and clarity of the approach. A mini series using this method would certainly work for me. The brief composition at the end pulls it together. I'll be spending some time there.
Thank you so much , This is really a complete break through for me , it is the best I have ever come across thank you so much. Please if you can, make the complete CAGE for us all we will appreciate. Thank so, so, so much.
This is THE best lesson I’ve watched in a long time to help me on my journey towards music fluency on guitar. Thank you, I would definitely study these same concepts in the other caged shapes if you’re still looking for feedback on that question. You’re a fantastic teacher Brian.
Great lesson, thanks a lot. I like this list with the umbrella format. Very easy to follow along and can always pause or rewind if needed. These lessons are really helpful and valuable if you put in the time. Thanks again.
This is so helpful!! I am the perfect audience for this as I'm moving from just reading chords to trying to understand the theory and do it on a guitar. Wonderful. I would love to see the A,G,E, and D as well!
Awesome lesson, Brian. I'm a believer in less is best approach. One shape concentrated between three frets predominantly while connecting to other shapes is the beauty of it all. Thanks again for your ability to do all that.
Thank you Brian. I've known about the CAGED system for many years, but have to say, you break it down is such an easily digestible way that I'd love to see more of the same with the other shapes
Well done Sir. I vote for more on this. The E shape, and the G shape. , The A shape seems interesting. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you very many times! Your lessons are really my favorite.
This was very helpful Brian it explained a lot to me. This will definitely help me with my understanding and playing. Would like to see you do more like this.
Brian, You did a marvelous job! The best part of it is: “Commenting about the precise definition of your playing while jamming with the backing track”. That connects all your Major, Dominant and Minor sections. Most importantly “It really guides the student and assures him to play within the synchronicity of chords, scales, modes, arpeggios and triads along with the recordin”. Please do more of that: “Record your playing and then show yourself in the corner explaining what’s happening in your recorded video”. Then you’ll have the best teaching tool for all of us. Thanks, Ronaldo
Yes!!! Please add the other shapes! "C" has been a mystery to me, Great Video! "G" is also somewhat mysterious. E,A,&D, are easier, but it would be great to reinforce and complete the package with your style and clarity of presentation.
THIS is a VERY useful tool. PLEASE DO THE SERIES!! You might include it in your "Beginner needs to know" stuff. BTW if you include the ARPEGGIO, you have yet anther good tool in the box ... and you could call this "C Shape - TEN essential tools that live within the C Shape".
Excellent lesson. Guthrie Govan went over the importance of the CAGED system like 15ish years ago, but it never really clicked with me until your videos. This is just an even more useful "unpacking" of the power of CAGED and how it really opens everything up.

Echo the other comments on a mini series for all 5. Always nice to remember that certain shapes match with the Pentatonic Shapes. This type of lesson is great for me to identify what I truly remember from past workshop lessons. I learned a fretable major 7th chord position, and put together that the natural minor scale matched the G major notes @13:35
@@activemelody It was a good test of my knowledge. You might consider a couple of short form videos where you quiz the subscribers to see if they can place the notes/chords/etc. I've gone through the Essentials Course on your website, which boosted my skills and knowledge considerably but I'd love to have a test every now and then! Thanks Brian!
For all the countless hours of video time other people have spent on attempting to describe CAGED, it usually boils down to little more than "they all connect". But this one video alone contains days of functional knowledge and tools to practice and chew on. Fantastic job on this, and thanks so much!
Brian, this was a very helpful video! I have been using the CAGED system for years, and today you opened my mind to some things I had not considered regarding the CAGED system. Even though I can figure it out myself, I would very much like it if you create videos covering the same info using the other four CAGED shapes. I also have to tell you that when I first discovered your TH-cam channel, I was not very impressed with your playing, I thought your lessons were very basic. After watching a number of your videos, I realize that I was wrong. You play guitar really well and you know a whole lot more about different music genres than I thought you did! Great job playing and organizing information about guitar playing!
I agree that his lessons are among the best but sometimes it's good to get another perspective from others and there are a few really good ones out there. Nothing wrong with a second "good" opinion. I got an awakening from this episode because of some excellent ideas I have learned elsewhere. He has a way of putting things in simple terms. Use every resource that helps. It only makes the lessons here make more sense.
Brian, glad you started with the C shape. What's interesting about the "Cowboy C chord" shape we all learn is it comprises part of a Cowboy D chord shape (on the G, B and E strings) welded to a Cowboy E chord shape (on the E, A and D strings). I guess I've said this correctly that its Cowboy form "straddles" two chord shapes. It seems this sharing of the two chord shapes really expands the number of scales one has access to. Looking forward to hearing/seeing more.
Would love to see all five shapes. Would be cool to see a follow up of these implementing what we’ve learned in practical application to various chord progressions, in various styles. Might be fun.
Keep going. Even though I could likely figure the other four shapes out myself you do such a great job of it I'm happy to leave it up to you . Thanks, great lesson as always.
Nice lesson Brian. I for one would like very much to see a mini series showing the same thing in the other chord shapes.
Me too!!!
3rd-ed!
agreed. it opens up the value of caged
No doubt. I was hoping for the deep dive series as soon as I saw the title.
What he said
YES,YES,YES, PLEASE DO A MINI SERIES .THIS IS THE BEST LESSON I'VE SEEN ON CAGED BREAKDOWN BRILLANT . THANKS

"I can do anything anywhere!" This is going to be awesome... Thank you.
I'm definitely someone who would enjoy a breakdown of all the caged shapes with a mini series type thing. Great lesson.
Brian, this is another one of your great lessons. I just never put all the concepts into a box using chord from CAGE. Please think about a series using the other chord shapes. Thank you so much for your time and energy putting these lessons together for us.

It's great to understand it in one shape. Would like to see more for other shapes and how you follow chord progressions with it while soloing.
Beautiful lesson.
I hope you do the same for all other forms of CAGED

Hi Brian, Yes please, a CAGED mini series like this one would be really helpful, I'm sure, to a lot of people. So much helpful information, thank you.
Hi Brian, one of the most usefull lessons! Yes, pls. keep on going with the other 4 shapes!!!

Super awesome insights into the C shape cage. I would love to 'deep dive" in all 5 cage shapes. I like to keep my solos interesting and informed.
This is so helpful!! I am the perfect audience for this as I'm moving from just reading chords to trying to understand the theory and do it on a guitar. Wonderful. I would love to see the A,G,E, and D as well!

Very helpful, and I agree with @guitarman12325. A mini series covering the other four shapes would be of great value. Thx!
Simply the best Brian....love your enthusiasm towards your audience....makes a person confident they can possibly achieve...😊
Yes please. I’ll sign up straight away. This is the best caged based lesson and so informative. Thankyou.
Would definitely LOVE to see the other shapes!!!!
Well done Sir. I vote for more on this. The E shape, and the G shape. , The A shape seems interesting. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you very many times! Your lessons are really my favorite.
YES...please duplicate for the other 4 shapes.
Very helpful. You are a very good "explainer".✌️
This was very helpful Brian it explained a lot to me. This will definitely help me with my understanding and playing. Would like to see you do more like this.
Thanks, Brian. Illuminating. Yes, a mini series would be great (or I could just sit down and work it out myself).
Thanks for this. Very good breakdown. Please repeat for A-G-E-D.
Ha, ha, this stuff never ages.😁
Yes, please cover all the other shapes!
Brian! That was great- PLEEEASE do the other shapes!
Great lesson Brian. You always seem to explain things really well. It would be great to see a mini series on all the shapes. Keep up the good work
Great lesson, Brian! Several light bulbs came on. I also would like to see companion lessons for the other four shapes.
Thanks for sharing Caged movable chord system in C shape explained in 9 guitar playing modes - all in one fretboard position.
Brian,
You did a marvelous job!
Thanks,
Ronaldo
Yes!!! Please add the other shapes! "C" has been a mystery to me, Great Video! "G" is also somewhat mysterious. E,A,&D, are easier, but it would be great to reinforce and complete the package with your style and clarity of presentation.
Thanks for the lesson.. Super helpful! Covering the other shapes in a series would be awesome 👍
Great lesson! Lets make it a series. This is so helpful. You're clarity and skillful articulation is the best!

+1 on definitely wanting to see the other shapes broken down the same please… Absolute gold that I’ve been wishing someone would do! Thanks
Thank you, Brian, for a great lesson! Yes, I look forward to seeing the other shapes!
This is so so so good! I know the other shapes decently well, but think these are some of the most valuable lessons out there. No harm revising, but would definitely show these to new players.
I like your simplicity. You are good teacher and player.

Thank you.

I knew a few of those, a few I didn’t, so THANK YOU Brian. Your lessons are always well thought out and presented.

Brian, glad you started with the C shape. Awesome, going to have to sit down with the guitar and cement this into place. Thankyou.
Please complete the series of all 5 chords! This is great
That was an insightful lesson. I kinda knew everything you were talking about but had not connected it together - thanks
Brian, this lesson was the most incredible lesson in all TH-cam!!!!!
Thank You, Mind blown!!!! Please consider doing the other shapes, I really got a lot from this approach!!!

For the other shapes Brian..
I think you really hit on something here with the idea of a mini-series on shapes inside of boxes.
Thank you so much for this lesson. This has to be the lesson that helped put everything together for me. Thanks again!
