Good question! We started out in regular trainers, but have both switched to Teva sandals, which is something I never thought I'd do. We wanted to have shoes that can be worn anywhere, and found normal shoes get wet and muddy and gross very quickly. The sandals don't matter if they get wet, dry quick, and are super comfortable to ride in surprisingly. When it's been real cold, we pair them up with some waterproof socks!

It was a lot of fun, try learn some of the food names first because we ended up with some pretty interesting dishes 😂

I loved this video, thanks for making it! I'm going to Vietnam in May to do some cycle touring as well. Question: did you ever bring your bicycles on a train? I have done this successfully in Thailand. I've heard conflicting things: some people say you can't bring a bike on your passenger train, you have to send it on a another train a couple days in advance. Others say it depends on the train. Any experience with that? Thank you!
Hi! Thanks for watching! We didn't take our bikes on trains in Vietnam, but have also heard the same conflicting things. Some trains you have to send seperate, and some you can take.. it's always a bit confusing to try get info ahead of time for stuff like this in south east Asia, as it often depends on the person on the spot your dealing with.. we did take a bus though, that was super high class and comfortable, and allowed us to put our bikes underneath no worries.
@@weridebikesplaces Thanks for the reply and info! How does putting your bike under the bus work? Do you have to take the pedals or wheels off, etc.? Does it have to be protected with packaging materials?
@@mjd9999 its different for each bus. Most are big enough to put them under without taking anything apart, some will need you take the front wheel off. Haven't had to take the peddles off for the bus, or use packing boxes

Hi, thanks for watching! No I don't think we had any head winds that were too bad. We rode in May, and it was really hot, even for Vietnam.. if possible I'd recommend earlier or later in the year. We rode north to south because we'd just been riding through northern Thailand and Laos, so it's just where we were, I'm sure going the other way would be good.

I wouldn't recommend Vietnam as a place to ride with small kids, or a trailer. The traffic is ok when you're on your bike and are aware, but it comes from all directions, especially in the cities
Hey, thanks! We did have a tent, which we've been using all around the world, and had the intention of camping. But when we were there it was just too hot, with humid nights around 30degrees. There's plenty of accommodation everywhere, with air con rooms for around $10-$15. Cheap simple accommodation is called nga nghi, so just keep an eye out for signs with that on it

@NomadLifeKiwi we started our trip in Europe and loved it, didn't make any videos while there though. Asia is a lot of fun to tour in, once you get used to the heat.. Thailand especially, good food and smiling faces everywhere

It took us about 6 weeks, and we rode around 60-70 km per day. And obviously took some time off along the way 🙂

How dangerous is the traffic? Would it possible with a small kids with a trailer. Avoing big streets of course
I wouldn't recommend Vietnam as a place to ride with small kids, or a trailer. The traffic is ok when you're on your bike and are aware, but it comes from all directions, especially in the cities
