The highest paid receivers not being first round picks argument is dumb when the 3 best receivers in the league are 1st rounders on rookie deals (Jefferson, Chase, Lamb) gonna be 500 million between those 3 guys

They mentioned that. Their point was that you can find really good WRs in other rounds compared to other premium positions and that list still proves that even if you added a few more 1st rounders

Seems rare that we get Fishbain with both Adams but it's always great. This was a great ep. Bears have lots of good options at #9. Trading down a few picks seems to make the most sense to me.

Keenan Allen is 32 and at this point it doesn’t seem that the Bears haven’t done anything to suggest that they are extending him. He’s effectively a one-year rental. Next year we go back to the same issue we had, outside of DJ Moore who are our wide receivers?
Draft Odunze, let him learn from Allen, and when Allen leaves in free agency next year, you have a long term WR duo that is one of the best in the league with DJ and Rome.
I think you guys overstated the need at OT and Jones is better than you’re giving him credit for. He outplayed Darnell Wright last year and no one seems to think any better of him because he was only a fifth round pick.
With DE I agree but the Bears realistically aren’t competing for anything serious in 2024. We don’t have to fill all of our holes this year. I think it’s more important to set our QB and offense up well long term and build the defense up next year than address the defense now and put the future in doubt offensively.

guys this particular pod today is amazing! great work. are you listening to how much information the 3 of you are accessing on the fly. wow.. really valuable and enjoyable.. i knew Alan had been hurt before but not to this extent… one twisted ankle from not having more at WR than Fields had.. maybe less without Mooney.

We need an offensive line that can dominate the line of scrimmage. We got enough skill players, we need some serious hardnosed asskickers on our offensive line. We don't need to waste a pick on WRs, we need prime beef on our offensive line. I want us to dominant on offense

  • @skeeter1858

The guy on the bottom makes the absolute worst argument against the WR position. 1) Just because they're the top paid doesn't mean they're better than WR's still on their rookie deals i.e. Justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb. 2) Winning a super bowl as a metric to measure value of a player is ridiculous. So you're saying that anyone who hasn't won a SB isn't positively impacting their team in anyway?

Drafting Byron Murphy is maybe the worst Bear’s draft take yet. How foolish would Poles look after drafting Dexter and Pickett. They’ve both only had one season. Plus, Murphy has to be the smallest DT in the History of the League. He, over thinking this.

Fishmans argument that the top 10 paid wide receivers only had 3 superbowls between them is pretty overtly dumb follow up to his great lineman take. There is only 1 Super Bowl every year, and so its distribution across all players, at any position or pay level, is sparsely distributed - full stop. That’s just facts. The same dumb argument could be made against paying literally every position in the sport. You could also show the same effect by taking, say, the 21-30th top paid recievers. Or the 50th-60th paid linemen. So it’s a 100% useless stat.

Byron Murphy is less talented than Johnny Newton. If you watch their footage, Murphy doesn't finish plays, when Newton does, within the context of pass rushing. Pass rushing is the biggest need on the Bears DL.
The counter to arguing for Newton over Murphy is that he had surgery in January on his 5th metatarsal [Jones break]. Due to the lack of blood flow in that part of the foot, that injury can be a career hindrance. Newton did still play well while injured in 2023, but it's still a concern.

Poles record is pretty much zero on that. So the first twisted ankle makes the WR group specifically less than what Fields had. Great. Nothing like doing the same thing expecting different results. So hurry everybody go grab an edge high so next year you can ignore the huge edge class coming out while you ignore the WR’s this year like you ignored the centers last year. Only in Chicago always Defense the answer. What do you have against a 35 pt. a game offense? One WR goes down and nobody who can catch to stretch the field. Listen to yourselves!

I just feel like there are good edges in round 2/3. It's on Poles to get fucking creative and package some of the extra picks they have next year in what will me a mediocre draft compared to this year's and get into the 2nd round. From a purely sticking at 9 standpoint, there just simply isn't a single defensive player that is worth the pick over a Rome odunze if he is there. If we are to entertain a scenario where odunze is there at 9 and there are teams that are wanting to move up, there has to be a limit to how far you move back. Idgaf how many picks we get... To have a top 10 pick and then move into the late 20s for example and not get a blue chip player would be so infuriating. especially if the biggest selling point is a future pick. A team trading up simply HAS to give us a 2nd in THIS years draft. And if it's someone like the Bills, I'm gonna need their 2nd this year and their 1st next year. And if that happens, I pray Poles says fuck this extra 1st rounder and uses it to get another 2nd round pick this year. If you haven't noticed the trend.. fuck extra picks next year. You wanna do the trade back bullshit to fill more holes, we filling them NOW not next year

sure you can get quality WR's in the second round, but.... THE BEARS DON"T HAVE A SECOND ROUND PICK! You can treat the #9 pick as their second rounder as it is their second pick. Sure top WRs in the last 10 years haven't won Super Bowls because Mahomes and Brady won them all! Top WRs have made the Super Bowl: Bengals, Rams, Niners, Eagles, Buccaneers, even the Chiefs with Tyreek Hill. C'mon.

Do you think the Bears traded for Montez Sweat and signed him to a huge extension to have an average DE opposite him? I don't think so. Enough with the nonsense. The Bears are drafting Turner or Verse at #9 or trading down to draft Latu or Robinson.

    I won't be mad at Brock Bowers at 9 - Can play TE3 / WR3 / X WR / Fullback

Hoge, your assignment was DE aka Edge rusher, not DL. You flunk (as usual).

YOUR STONED i DO NOT PICK AN UNDER SIZE PROJECT AT NUMBE R 9 IN MURPHY NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY. i WOULD PICK ONE OF THE 3 BLUE CHIP WR---BUILD A DOMINANT OFFENSE THAT TAKES THE PRESSURE OF THE DEFENSE. IF ALL THREE WIDE WR GONE THEN IS IT A COIN FLIP BETWEEN ALT AND THE VARSE AND WOULD LIKELY PICK VARSE. BRAXTON IS OK

They are gonna look for a stud on the other side of Sweat and that D will dominate. Pickett is going to take a giant leap. Those guys been working with coaches on the side trying to perfect their craft. Not on vacation. They will be primed.
