The champ is a great plane, I've upgraded mine with a p-51 motor and gear box and added a 5043 prop. it has tons of power now and can do endless loops. A GREAT plane!
Most definitely the Champ. I've been into rc cars as well, but after discovering ultra micros, I took an interest in rc planes. After playing around with the rc flight simulators that were set up at my local hobby shop, I immediately found out flying an rc plane was a lot different than driving an rc car. Plus by going to the beginners forums at various rc websites, I learned that the Champ is best for beginners, and that warbirds like the P-51 are best flown by those with more experience.
Clavern, if you want to learn how to fly rc this is a great starting point. I started with this and its very forgiving, tough and fun. If you are thinking of getting into the hobby this is a great starter and it wont break the bank if you decide its not for you. Highly recommended
I grew out of my Champ and wanted a little more power. Decided to try the upgrade I've read about. I put in a Nine Eagles Solo Pro motor (NE 4902002) and I'm very happy with it. Flies much faster and can pull a decent power loop. Used to like it, now I love it!
My first and only rc plane is a 4 channel Delta Ray from Horizon Hobby. Great, fun plane but I'm restricted to large flying fields. It would be nice to fly in smaller areas as well. So for my next plane, I was tossing up between the Champ and the Sport Cub. Though now I see that the Champ is a 3 ch plane. I would prefer 4 ch like my Delta Ray. So I think I'll go with the Sport Cub instead.
FTLOSM yes the motor does point downward, very normal. Also youll notice that most motors are of set to the right, think it h as something to do with the rotation but not sure, happy learning and dont forget, keep it high so you have plenty of room for errors.
Great video thanks but you didnt mention flight time on this plane. Im wondering what everyone else is getting out of it? Thnx again will check out website as im new to RC flying
@TheMedicRC Man I've been flying 13 years now wish I never crashed a plane. I can't believe Horizon would say that. I've been working with their customer service for 6 years now and never had an issue. Did you get it through the LHS?

After flying multiple times this is amazing but it's so sensitive to any wind I'm taking off of cardboard but you know that's fine and it can take off of dirt and short grass
I have flown this plane the flight is around 7-10 minutes depending on what you are doing with the plane this is around the time you would get out of a micro flyer
i got this plane today but it came with a mini USB charger instead of E-FLITE CHARGER 1-CELL 3.7V 0.3A DC LI-PO is this normal and how long does it take to charge it from usb
I got one of these and liked it but the rudder in the back is paper thin and easily broken it is hard to repair with normal tape as the rudder is mainly held on with tape and a few foam connections but overall good plane
I didn't even get to fly this before the elevator broke. I had it on the roof of my car while plugging in the battery, grabbed my Dx6i and the slightest breeze caused it to roll down the windsheild tail first. After I reattached the servo linkage and tried to fly it, the plane would only stall and dive repeatedly. Does anybody know what angle the elevator should be at when neutral (midstick)? Also the servo's stopped working from one landing in the snow.
I am flying this plane and I am a beginner and I am noticing that it is always pulling right I have already full adjusted the trim as much as I can and I have adjusted that plastic tab and rod as far out as I can. This not only produces an issue in flight but also while I'm taxiing and getting ready to take off it will pull right. Any suggestions to fix this?
Dear Santa, I know there is a world recession going on, but my short wishlist consists of the Traxxas Summit with extra Lipo battery, Traxxas Spartan, and an RC heli with 4 channels.
@TheMedicRC Oh come on now medic it's not that bad. Bad boards are generally from plowing it into the ground with the prop still spinning. Most of my customers have had it for almost a year now, no problems. Only had one with a bad servo out of the box. Horizon will generally warranty any non-mechanical issue as well.
Guys order online, get yourself some scotch double sided tape and ca glue. Parts are dead cheap, I've had my champ for 3 months and its still looking good
I'm 11 years old and I want a trainer for under $150 and my parents say I should get something smaller well just not a huge plane but easy to fly and this came up would you also recommend getting a new battery or no
This is good for a beginner, If i were 11 i would focus on small micros like this and the UM X T-28 after some experience with this. Dont go up after you're confident, as a good man once said. "Foam is tape able, wood is not!" - J bixler
hello i have a question i went to my local hobbytown store and asked wich plane its better to start with between this champ and the ares gamma 370 and was told that the 370 was my best option because im a beginner and i like to know if someone can agree with that please help thank u in advance
@pudge1015 On a plane like this either rudder only or ailerons both are fine. On a plane like this I mean high wing (wing on top of plane), flat bottom wing and plenty of dihedral in the wing.
i bought a champ 2nd flight hit a tree ripped the wing went to hobby shop and they didnt have any. Ordered one he said be here next week come back next week the person there said it would be 3months......... i had a fit told the guy off and im gonna seel it on ebay.
@rcflightschool Sorry to be such a stickler, but "air-lons" is not a proper pronunciation of the word. Saying "toomato" instead of "tomato" is correct, because you're not changing the spelling of the word while speaking, just the emphasis. While saying "air-lon" you have changed the spelling of the word, reversing the "l" and "r."
Please rcflightschool, for the sake of your viewers, pronounce the word, "aileron" correctly! 2:39, not "air-lons," it's pronounced "ale-er-ons." Thanks!

I have this plane also and I love it so much! I treasure it. It was the first plane I ever got and now I'm flying IMAC! This is an awesome plane.

Made my first ever rc flight with this 'plane. Rcflightschool you're on the money!
I still love to watch this video every now and then just to hear you say “AIRELONS” lol
The champ was my very first. Great plane. Liked and subscribed.
I have this plane and love it.
My first ever plane and a good one at that.
Thanks for another upload rc flight school now flight demo :)))

David, my champ will easily do 10-15mins on a battery if I'm not to throttle happy. I've learnt to fly on one and would recommend to anyone.
well take a look at your stablizer and the landing gear! see if you rudder is well aligned to the stablizer.
Hi Brandon, if you had to upgrade the battery so to receive longer flight times, what would be the best battery to go for? Thank you Mike
Great video thanks but you didnt mention flight time on this plane. Im wondering what everyone else is getting out of it? Thnx again will check out website as im new to RC flying
@electricrc68 haha that kills! Great plane as well.
I have this plane and love it :)

I bought it and it weighs a feather SOOOO lightweight and also the wheels are a little small so can you get new bigger ones?
Hey, I have seen some review saying that the radio would not bind with the airplane. Have you had any problem with that?
can you please tell me the easyiest beginner plane that i would still enjoy after i become better
So for a beginner is easier to learn rutter only flight because I've heard both ways
After flying multiple times this is amazing but it's so sensitive to any wind I'm taking off of cardboard but you know that's fine and it can take off of dirt and short grass
I have flown this plane the flight is around 7-10 minutes depending on what you are doing with the plane this is around the time you would get out of a micro flyer
cool! this plane looks like fun! i just got the micro t-28 by the way. but i cant open it until xmas. :(
I've flown a champ, and lemme tell you, it's dead easy to fly, but it's tail heavy, so nose weights or moving the battery forward is needed, I think.
Will the plane be able to fly in manchester in England because it is always windy? Or will it be really hard to fly (it will be my first rc plane)!
Is this a good beginners plane
Is this plane really durable? I thinking of buying it!!
how long does the battery last and also how long does it take to charge
i got this plane today but it came with a mini USB charger instead of E-FLITE CHARGER 1-CELL 3.7V 0.3A DC LI-PO is this normal and how long does it take to charge it from usb
Would you say that the Champ or the Ares trainer 100 is a better plane to start with?
@BarberRC8 Love this plane and I've been flying over ten years =]
Is this plane 4 or 3 channel because you said there are mock Ailerons. Nice Video Btw!
I got one of these and liked it but the rudder in the back is paper thin and easily broken it is hard to repair with normal tape as the rudder is mainly held on with tape and a few foam connections but overall good plane
Im looking for aerodynamics and all around quality. Is the champ better then the Mini super cub?
I really need your help. My champ crashed and the wing snapped extremely close to the body of the plane. should I glue it, or what. please answer
love the intro music :)
does it have the same control as suber cub
can u put a bigger battery in it?
I didn't even get to fly this before the elevator broke. I had it on the roof of my car while plugging in the battery, grabbed my Dx6i and the slightest breeze caused it to roll down the windsheild tail first.

Does anybody know what angle the elevator should be at when neutral (midstick)?
Also the servo's stopped working from one landing in the snow.
The tail is indeed very weak! Mine broke 3 times out of the first 10 times I've flown this plane, and the main wing broke during that time also.
I want to get a Champ, but I can't seem to find the flight time. How long does this fly on a single charge?
@mickvk Nice thanks for the tip!
how long does the battery last per flight?
can it bind up to a spektrum radio like a dx6i
can you buy it with a remote?
Dear Santa, I know there is a world recession going on, but my short wishlist consists of the Traxxas Summit with extra Lipo battery, Traxxas Spartan, and an RC heli with 4 channels.

To keep the questions from coming THIS IS A BEGINNER PLANE
I'm 11 years old and I want a trainer for under $150 and my parents say I should get something smaller well just not a huge plane but easy to fly and this came up would you also recommend getting a new battery or no

If you break it, a bit of hot glue will keep it going!
@rcflightschool could you fly this plane in the wintertime? Pleasy reply A.S.A.P
Thanks:)
hello i have a question i went to my local hobbytown store and asked wich plane its better to start with between this champ and the ares gamma 370 and was told that the 370 was my best option because im a beginner and i like to know if someone can agree with that please help thank u in advance
Could you or someone please tell me the flight time ??
this or mini supercub
The torque of the motor spinning to the right will cause it to drift right. Nothing you can do
TH-cam Recommendations brought me here.
@pudge1015 He said it...
@pudge1015 On a plane like this either rudder only or ailerons both are fine. On a plane like this I mean high wing (wing on top of plane), flat bottom wing and plenty of dihedral in the wing.
