Sinéad O'Connor's haunting vocals on "She Moved Through the Fair" underscore the senseless tragedy of the climactic scene in Neil Jordan's 1996 film "Michael Collins" at Béal na mBláth in County Cork, where the title character was cruelly ambushed and killed by some of the very same IRA gunmen he once commanded in battle with the British. Went to the Canary Islands on holiday a few years back, ended up in an Irish bar, there’s a Scottish musician playing Irish rebel music. At some during the gig he takes a small break from playing, he takes a large gulp from his pint of stout and asked those in attendance, anyone here from Galway? Few people in the crowd let a roar. Anyone here from Dublin? The crowd roar. Anyone here from Cork? A couple in the corner of the bar roared yes, we are from Cork, up the rebel county. The musician laughed and shook his head. The rebel county he says? The only fucken rebel that you had in Cork you fucken shot. True story. RIP Michael

"OUR REVENGEWILL BE THE LAUGHTER OF OUR CHILDREN". Bobby Sands. Never forget!!
cara madra Yes !!
cara madra love it !
Are your children still laughing? As they see the Union Jack still flying over Northern Ireland and McGuinness finally where he belongs - in the grave?
Those children have kids of their own now and there is no laughter and
no revenge and so Mr Sands will be forgotten and his efforts were in vain
and thats the plain truth.
@1414yorks
Bobby Sands won't be forgotten if we don't let him.
I was 14 when the hunger strike was happening , and my Mam told me about him , and when I grew , and had my own children , I told them , and they will tell theirs .
He won't be forgotten . Lest we forget
My olds from county wicklow I was born in Australia my dad migrated out here when he left the army after serving in the congo and Cyprus I wish I knew more about where I come from I lost dad 11 years ago now 🇭🇲🇮🇪
im from Wicklow.. The Garden of Ireland. Come visit the place and you won't be dissapointted!
You would get a warm welcome here in Cork (South of Ireland) as well. 🍀🇮🇪
Visit Ireland you might never go back to Australia
Look at "The Siege of Jadotville" on Netflix if you have an interest in the Irish who served with the UN in the Congo. It's not for those with rose-tinted glasses about Ireland, but you cannot fail to be proud of your dad's service there.
@@fuiseog2339 I seen it the day it was released I wish my dad was still alive to see it
I’m irish and I love my country and am proud to be irish but i am from Belfast and so is all of my family but we are still republicans and we love this song but i have to say I do prefer the Belfast child version of this song by simple minds but both of them are great songs and mean a lot to me either way ❤️🇮🇪
Beautiful Irish tune I cried so hard through out this flick ❤☘️❤☘️
I absolutely love this song. And I love the film Micheal Collins.

I love this song and this version is wonderful. It does make me smile though thinking back to when my brother was maybe 8; listening to Irish songs Macushla, Danny Boy and this and he pipes up in his boys voice "Do we have any love songs about people who are alive?"

Best version of this song ever sung.
