I used to live in the second building Janek visited (with the artisan café, Vejvodova 445/1 or Jilská) and there is another interesting fact about it. As he already mentioned, it was called a ball room (ballgasse), because of its usage. But it is also said to be the first place where the modern version of tennis had been invented. Of course the game itself was much older, but the rules of the game that were used there were very similar to the rules we have today. It's something that cannot be proven really, but I found it nice and symbolic to live in a building that could've played a key role of inventing the sport I (and many Czech people) really love.
And the last fun fact. The building was originally built in the early 13th century and it is yet another example of having a building so old, that because of all the debris that accumulated on the streets throughout the time, the original first floor is today converted into a basement as the street level have risen since then. Of course since then the building had been altered several times and the current layout had been finished at the end of 1860s.
All in all, it was an interesting place to live in and surprisingly large. It is possible to rent a couple of spacious flats there (airbnb was used quite a lot unfortunately and some of the tourists were quite loud) or even buy one. The prices aren't low, but not as high as you could expect from such an old building. Just be careful, it has its quirks and for example in the winter tends to be quite cold unless you constantly run the heating.

I’m in Prague currently. I’ve taken your recent food recommendations! Had Las Adelitas first, definitely true that it was good for locals and tourists. Service and food were incredible. Then went to Strídačka (the hockey bar), it took a couple of tries as it was so busy but we finally got in and the food was incredible also. I’m booked up for Pasta Fresca tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Also got the Větrník from Cafe Savoy (along with juice, a ham omelette and a ham & cheese croissant for breakfast). Everything you’ve recommended so far food wise has been amazing!! One thing my partner and I have struggled with is wondering what to do in the evening as we don’t drink. I feel like we will definitely return to Prague with a better list of things to do. I didn’t have a tonne of time to put together a large list of things to do this weekend on our first trip to Prague but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visit and have not been bothered by any scammers. I got my train ticket checked and the ticket checker showed me a badge which I initially thought was a scammer trying to sell me a key ring and I just put my hand up to him to him and said “no, no” without realising who he was at first so that was a bit awkward!😂 Loved it though! Been watching your videos for quite a few years and it is great to finally be in Prague after viewing it on my small screen via your videos for so long!

Also find it a shame how many public toilets you need to pay for. It seems silly to pay for that. I’d rather go to a cafe and buy a drink but if the more I keep drinking the more I need the toilet so there is no winning 😩😂

One thing you can do in the evening is visit a 'Black Light Theatre' there are different ones around the city but they all work the same way as a kind of speechless performance art event. Also look for places that have musical events on at night time...

Mala Strana, or also traditional in german: Kleinseite (klein = little, small) is not Lesser Town! What is Lesser Town? Little Quarter in my Opinion is the "honest guide" Translation for the historical Quarter: Mala Strana/Kleinseite/Civitas Minor. In former times it was an own Town linked with Charles Bridge to the old town. Jan Neruda was an important writer in the 19th Century, who was born in Mala Strana/ Kleinseite or like to say in english: Little Quarter.

Hey, I speak some Polish, it looks like I should have no problem to move around in the Czech Republic, right? For example, when you were showing the coffee shop in the house of fashion - I could read the sign. By the way, my wife and my son they went to Czech Republic couple years ago and they just loved it. They went to a restaurant and boom the waitress right away brought a couple of beers. They said that you guys drink a lot :-) but the food is phenomenal. The major issue was exchanging money in the bank - the rate horrible. But they take visa everywhere. I also recommend taking the train from Prague to Vienna. It is a great trip, great food, and of course beer too :-)

Could you actually cover one of main flaws with Prague and actually Czechs ?
    - restaurants/ bars ripping of English speakers (tourists, expats)
    - huge descrimination for non-Czech speakers overal
    1) Ripping of English speakers
There is really rude behaviour in restaurants and pubs, there is no "customer service" in mentality of Czechs.
Just to take as much as possible from foreigners.
Why you don't check your bills in restaurants in center as Czechs (regular bill) and as foreigner (included 15% tip without asking) ?
In western countries tip is deserved with nice smile, attention and service.. here in Prague, you won't get it, but they expect you will give them tip even they earn good money in restaurants.
Service not to mention, just throwing menu over the table, taking order and bringing bill.
    2) overal discrimination of non-English speakers
Czech society is very xenophobic. Rarely anyone will speak English even if they know some basics. Even foreign police as first stop in Cz, they are not speaking English.
And it is 2023, EU !!!
So many expats working in Prague, bringing that money via taxes and supporting pension funds and still, people behave as it is 1848.
Globalisation is non -existant here, biggest progress they did in Prague in last 20 years was to introduce English notification in metro.
Those are topics to look into, to change something for new generations, not only to hunt for romanian frauds on street..

We just went to L4, update… now it’s closed on Mondays 😅 but we found anice hidden gem, Míšeňská, really cute cozy place.. and quiet, even being very close to the bridge

I never understand people who visit a new country and instead of trying the local coffee and food, they visit Starbucks and McDonald’s 😒

The first cafe mentioned is my favorite in the city center and I hope you won't ruin it with this video because it doesn't need more customers. Similarly places like Kantýna are completely ruined by overcrowding. So thumbs down and hope this video gets as little views as possible.

Hahaha, sooo true! I still play confused when ordering a Espresso, and the waiter askes if I want it small or big - happens even in Vienna 😂
