Sticky Eddy on the Hood River - Tucker to Marina - 6.3ft ( 2400cfs)

  • I hadn't kayaked the Hood between Dee and the Marina before, it was somewhat high water after a heavy rainfall and I was a bit nervous to be on unfamiliar whitewater. Toward the end I had relaxed a bit and started padding into features to get a little more action and found a pretty sticky eddy that was easy to get into and not so easy to get out of. It's a great "class fun" section at that level.

    As someone who LOVES to catch difficult eddies, key factor to exit those types of eddies (and any eddy actually) is to have forward momentum as you cross the eddy line. Otherwise, you'll just get spun around as you did.

    I've heard that rapid referred to as Helicopter, I think you discovered why.
