The game having lore and actual story elements is really cool to me. Yes it’s a silly fun game where nothing really makes sense but there’s also some genuine thought put into it. There’s a lot of love put into it. a love of the game itself, a love of the Roblox platform, and a love of other actual video games and film. Makes me really happy.

slimyim is not actually hostile and is just very "aggresively caring" if that makes sense? folly likes to torment npcs without an actual hostile intent spar a few npcs (specifically gnarpy due to what he did to spud) slimyim is similar but instead of the idea of horrors is the idea of dying they just a lil :p
I thought slimyim's "kindness" was sarcasm. Plus, I'm pretty sure Folly torments them because she consumes the fear that the NPCs feel or something like that

Idk why it's in that floor tho, maybe it means that she's stalking PartyNoob (who lives in that floor) to torment them? Also, dont forget Happy Country. I also do take this seriously because of a lot of lesser known lore and that regretevator is known as a extraterrestrial phenomena, as a video from yeucc mentions it and as it appears in the real world. heres some important things worth knowing and some of my theories 1. melanie's head is actually refrence to an enemy type in tower heroes called "catware" the existence of such inspiration is unknown but hiioh (the devoloper of tower heroes) does seem to have quite an contribution to the game given they were the number 1 donator (idk if they still are but last time checked durning to release of stat npc they were there in the number 1 spot of all the donators) and not to mention hiioh is also seen using an emote from the regretevator discord server in one of their game announcement 2. poob might be blessed given him being in the happy home floor stops the meteor shower event and is the only one that MR speaks to aside from folly 3. unpleasant definitely do still eat cats because if you offer the a kitty they will just disappear and you chould hear a swallowing noises from unpleasant confirming that they eat cats. not to mention they are the only one that actually accept the cat exept for infected that just holds it refrence to the fact that he had a cat before and seeing another cat just makes him so happy... also unpleasant eating poptart is confirmed once more with a sticker that shows unpleasant eating from a food bowl that has "poptart" written on it 4. the earie song that plays durning the follower chase is probably inspired by the pizza tower song named "creepy apartment escape" which was the song that plays in the snick's challange where you have to beat a stage that is combination of every previous stages you had beatten but now under a time limit and when the timer runs out you will rapidly lose points untill you die

The Follower reminds me so much of The Persuer from The Beneath in Paint The Town Red, with both being incredibly large, black humanoids that slowly float through walls and floors to kill the player, they also both have unnerving ambience that slowly gets louder as they approach you. There are a few differences that I didn't mention but I still find it interesting to point out.

The final boss of that game, Giygas, is a staple when people talk about creepy things from video games due to its bizarre dialogue and background noises. When Giygas attacks, it says "[insert character name here] cannot grasp the true from of Giygas's attack!" Also Ao Oni is pronounced like "ow oni", your second guess was correct.
