  • A compilation of clips depicting a typical Atlantic Rail excursion to Stellenbosch. Featuring the organisations wide firebox class 16DA number 879. The footage was filmed over a long period of time dating back almost two years.
The train departs Cape Town at 9:30 and arrives in Stellenbosch at 11:30, briefly pausing at Spier for the passengers to disembark. While in Stellenbosch the locomotive is run around the train and serviced in preparation for the return trip at 15:00.
Atlantic Rail can be contacted at www.atlanticrail.co.za/
    or via their Facebook account.
The quality of the video also varies somewhat due to three different cameras being used to film it. My Panasonic V770 and external microphone were used for the pacing shots.

Excellent filming, the engine looks superb. Some nice shots of Lions Head and Table Mountain in the background, brings back happy memories of childhood days living in Belleville.

South African railways are amazing! Reminded me of Australian and New Zealand Railways because of the designs of some of these locomotives.

Excellent footage. Great sounds from a beautiful loco. Thanks for sharing ( PS. Saw JESSICA & DOMONIQUE 2 class 19Ds & RED DEVIL in Cape Town 20-11-2018- but not in steam unfortunately)

Thanks for watching Dale. Yes, I'm a member of the organisation. Turned a good few components for the Red Devil during its return to steam earlier this year. Unfortunately, you missed all the action as 3321 did two runs to Ceres that following weekend for the cherry festival.

Hi Wayne. Thats just my luck. Lol. I am an engineer and I hope to get involved with ABPF as I live in Brasil. I will be working out of Mossel Bay on a supply boat. Due back 17th this month. Maybe I might be lucky and see something. Carry on the good work.

Good video, want to do this train during my holiday in SA next year, but it should be booked quite early I heard.
Beautifull loco, its sad that the even more beautifull 16E doesn't run anymore, what became of these? (there were 2 16E preserved?)

Cape gauge, 3'6". Equipment is now downgraded to maximum speed of 60kph. Due to its age.
