Just bought a brand new in packet Mavrik 10.5 with stiff shaft from Callaway Pre-Owned (As New condition) for £195, not bad for a club that retailed for £469 two years back. Can't wait to try it Sunday for its debut round.
As a high handicapper with a right push' I'd definitely like to see Foxy hit the max, against a Rogue, but also against a 5 or 6 year old forgiving Driver. I want to see if the new tech really does make a difference and do I spend my money on a new 'bling' driver or stick with my Cobra S3 max ?
I didn't like the burnt orange originally but for some reason now its grown on me. I also have the chance to get one of these for free if I jump on it so I may be forcing myself to like it. Idk why, as modern drivers all look so tactical and techy with typical techy colors, the fatty regular mavrik in this color just sticks out as classy and ol timey looking. The club just makes me think that classic callaway vibe looking classy on the course with a cold Guinness. And I suck at golf so that vibe is the highlight for me.
Great video again James and definitely get Mark and Foxy to test them I would love to see a comparison against the rogue driver which this one has replaced
Nice comparison. I personally like the way the sub zero sits. I hit a lot of shots off of the deck. Low profile suits me. But remember, I don't put a gorilla swing on them either. Good job. Carry on James.
So far, in the reviews I've seen about this driver, the deciding factor is whether you like the color or not. I recall RS reviewing a Wilson driver a couple years ago and his knock was he didn't like the color or sound. Performance was in line with competing clubs. So, golfers, what are you actually buying? At least it's always nice to have new.

Sold my flash brand new wasn't for me and instead of buying new Mavrik with a custom color for $640 ( I cant do orange sorry) I got a brand new in plastic GBB Epic in my specs from the customs shop brand new for $265!!! Yea. Easy choice (Had the rogue hated the tapered off edge in the back) sold it ..

I do like the color which reminds me of the X2HOT (an amaxing club series) & the name indicates the club's technology is a break through that puts thid club in it's own class and has no true competitors. Isn't that what every club maker wants us to beleive. Calaway is one of the Four Horsemen of club making along with Taylormade, Ping & Titleist. Wow, that statement should start some discussion 😁
I have only been playing golf a year or 2, and I got the Mavrik. Hopefully it's forgiving enough for a golfer like me. Max for me is too much club head. Didn't hit it well at all at the demo I went to.
Colors are much classier than flash and rogue. The sound is important the first Epic sounded much better than Flash. Might take a look at standard as well as the new Cobra. Cheers from NorCal
if you have an epic and want slightly better performance. yes. if you own a flash and want it to sound and feel a bit better. yes. for $550. hmm. honestly that speaks to the quality of epic and rogue and flash. i do believe that some of the other brands have changed enough to justify a purchase if it fits your game better. SIM is different than m5 enough it could hurt or help....Speedzone is a definite improvement on the F9... OR if you like DULL ORANGE!!!!

Funny how opinions vary, I hated the Rogue colors. Looked feminine to me. I love Callaway fixed hosel fairway woods but hated the color so much I never really tried to game it. Well that and it didn’t beat my X2 Hot Pro... but the face caved on that so Im excited for this one.
James is that an orange shirt on you wearing as you are throwing dirt on the color of the driver and head cover. The shirt looks orange to me on my laptop, might very well be wrong. Good video, thanks.
Did a demo test with the Max against my Rogue, I regret to say there was absolutely no noticeable difference in length or accuracy. The Mavrik is a great club, but “for me” no better than the rogue. I also hate the colour ! I do feel that all of these driver tests should be caveated with a statement that there is no improvement over previous versions
Privately, these companies are all (very quietly) saying that you should expect to see most of the improvements this year on mishits in both distance and accuracy. No significant change on center strikes. I can buy that....but i don't get their advertising campaigns which say the exact opposite.
What I want to know is if club manufacturers get together and decide what the buzzworthy tech is going to be each year because it seems they all talk about the same things at the same time. Last year it was "we've made these faces as fast as possible", now it's all about clubhead speed. Whats the story with that?
James great reviews..do yourself a favor and check out Top Speed Golf..Clay could really help you with that little pull to the left and increase your swing speed by at least 118 -120..

It really looks like Callaway did their ENGINEERING homework with this line of drivers. The 3 models seem perfectly positioned for 3 very distinct type of players. The performance numbers look spot on. from a DESIGN/MARKETING stand point....OMG! The spelling of the name really, really bugs me! AND the color choices for both the driver head and its cover are not aimed at the mainstream at all! This was SO close to being a homerun! Why did the engineers let the marketing guys get their hands on these clubs??? I could order a custom color and feel a lot better about this driver but the name would always bug me! This is a perfect example of why I almost always go Titleist or Mizuno for most of my purchases! They are engineering and design driven companies.
Really liked the comparison of stats James and especially the inclusion of dispersion. It was very helpful for you to explain the different versions and how the Mavrik Max would suit a high handicapper like myself. Could you do a comparison of Fairway Woods sometime soon?
Black and Orange look no worse together than black & red. Color scheme will be a hit with Philly Flyers fans. I'll stick with my TS2 for now, since I'm getting 10+ fairway per round with it.

There is a review of the Callaway Edge driver which costs 1/10th that of the Mavrik, and only came up 5 yards short of the Mavrik. Yes, 1/10th, why such a cost differential ? I’m starting to sound like a troll and I don’t mean as I really like and appreciate your reviews, but us golfers and testers need to start getting real, buy the Edge and give the difference to charity

The whole driver marketing scheme is nonsense. My 3 year old Rogue is just fine. Blowing $500 to get nothing extra is absurd. The companies have all hit the wall .spend the money on lessons and practice and game the gear you have. The same goes for the new irons which are just 1/2 “ longer and four degrees stronger in loft so you think you are hitting the ball longer. Become a better ball striker....not a club buyer. We all know the game they play by now.
Another great video James but i wont be putting any new clubs in my bag this year as i cant justify the cost of golf equipment anymore slowly becoming a rich mans sport unfortunately

Generally speaking this is just wrong (but there are outliers on AoA that could see this happen). In my fitting last year I increased ball speed and dropped spin by going down to 8 degrees. You just have to make sure launch angle is still in a good window, such shouldn't be a problem with this head. Going -1 loft on the sleeve, which slightly opens the head, & weight in the heel, which moves it a bit forward, would give James dramatically better results. James is a flipper/pull hooker though so he's probably the worst fit for the Max.

Just changed to Mavrik standard from my M6, I have not regret that change, it feels much nicer, and longer as well!

Standard Mav had plenty of height to drop a degree of loft... looks promising for the bag!
