I start a bartending job in 2 days. Going from selling cell phones. Super nervous. This video is teaching me more than anything I've seen yet. This is how my brain learns! Seriously learning a lot. I see how a simpler drink ges more flair to the mix and the way the bartenders move around each other is nearly ballet! I'm having trouble timing the pour count though. I have heard a 1 oz. pour is quick 4-count but I have no clue, that's why I'm here. Thank you!

I just got hired as a bartender at a high volume place in a major city straight out of serving at another restaurant, went to bar school, I start in two weeks. I'm also part of the initial opening staff of the place altogether. Hopefully my newness gets lost in the shuffle of opening a new operation. I'm grateful I was given a chance. I was a barista for 4 years prior so I'm used to the pace but anxious about memorization of cocktails. I have a few basics down memorized like martinis and simple one liquor drinks but working on the more complicated ones. Our menu has complicated cocktails with like 7-10 ingredients each. I'm afraid to mess up especially since I'm so new to the trade. Thank you for these videos

Cash register is to the left of the screen, aecollector. That's where you see us standing there for bits at a time as we ring in drinks on the POS system. Many of them pay with a credit card though, so you'll see us either start a tab or check them out with a receipt. At our bar only about 20% actually pay with cash.

Am I the only one thinking a proper bar-pour is a four-count, which should equate to 2oz? Maybe things have changed over the decades I guess.
Also, the Manhattan is made with 2oz rye (or bourbon, but rye is more appropriate), 1oz (not 0.5oz) sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes bitter. That's "2-1-2" as a recipe, and "2-1-2" is the area code of Manhattan, NY.

I was i an school of bartendering where i received a basic course , i know how to free pour ,use the jigger, and the techniches of pouring, but seeing this speed in your bar just scares me ...
If i´m a completely begginner ¿ where is the best kind of place where i can start my practice like a bartender?

Usually you will start as a bareback where you kinda learn the pace just from being back there. You will pour a few drinks here and there. You will be eased into it buddy

I had the same fear, I started a few months ago, but you learn as you go and you get confident/gain speed, your co workers are their to help you as well.

Hey Charles, the great news is that there are so many different styles of bars out there that you can definitely find one that has a slower pace at first (plus those will be easier to get hired at) and after you gain some experience and confidence, you can move on to a busier place. It just takes a few shifts and you'll be good to go. I promise.

Are you having to keep track of what each person gets in this video so you know what to bill them? It seems like it would be hard to keep straight without mixing people up.

behind the bar there is a computer with a software that keeps track for them. Just inpu the data into it generally with table or customer number and done.

I get it, but I'm not seeing Dave input the data in the computer for all those drinks he served during the video. You're saying he knows who got all the drinks in the video and which tab to put them on? That'd a lot of drinks in 10 min.

Ok, let's clear this up: our bar does about 80% credit cards and 20% cash, so many of these people have tabs going which is what we're doing when we go to the POS...adding drinks to their tabs. In addition, I am making drinks for 4 - 5 servers and cocktail servers and all of their guests at the tables in the bar/restaurant. I am not ringing in any of those because they've already been rung in by the servers. And yes, after doing this for years, I can hold 10 - 12 drink orders in my head at once and remember to ring them in at a certain point once I finally get to the POS. I can assure you, as someone who owns an inventory management company where we track bartender pours, that everything is being rung in. Hope that makes sense.

I was wondering this as well and as soon as you mentioned servers I'm thinking duh why didn't I think of the fact he might be making drinks for some one else

@@DaveAllredTheRealBarman I'm up to about six I can remember. I'm impressed by your ability. I've been part time for a few years and went full time 3 months ago. My goal of bar manager is right around the corner :) Thanks for everything you share. Stay awesome ;)

Damn to be honest I thought I was a big shot because I knew how to make a few drinks with my friends back in school but now it’s like there’s certain amounts of alcohol you have to feed in. And juice. Sure I know a couple tricks but still I feel like a baby now😂😂 and I’m 21.
